Chapter 922
Arielle Moore and Vinson Nightshire
Arielle had barely taken a few steps out of the operating room when she collapsed in a heap.
Thankfully, Jordan and Carter, who had been waiting outside, promptly rushed to her aid.
Jordan took the lead and held Arielleâs waist, pulling her into his embrace as he did.
The next second, however, he screamed and pushed her toward Carter.
âWhatâs wrong with you, Jordan?â Carter scolded while holding onto Arielle.
Alas, Jordan didnât seem to hear anything as he stared at his hands in wideâeyed shock.
âWhat are you doing?â Carter once again asked. âCome help me!â
Jordan mumbled, his face drained of color. âSh*t, Iâm done for⦠I touched her inappropriately, and Vin will kill me if he finds out about it. I have to wash my hands! I have to get rid of all traces.â
Carter bristled with anger as he bellowed, âJordan Baker! Come back here!â
âLet me wash my hands first!â
With that, Jordan sped off.
âArgh, what an imbecile,â Carter grumbled, knowing he had no other choice but to help Arielle back to the ward by himself.
If it had been any other woman, heâd have carried them in his arms. Arielle, however, was an exception.
Carter wasnât about to do anything that might incur Vinsonâs jealousy, so he could only place Arielleâs hand on his shoulder as he dragged her away from the emergency room.
Fortunately, a few nurses soon spotted them and helped lead Arielle into a VIP ward.
Upon getting wind of what had happened, the lead surgeon hurried over to personally check on Arielle before putting her on an IV drip.
âWhatâs wrong with Arielle?â Carter asked worriedly.
The lead surgeon sighed and replied, âAs you know, traditional Chanaean medicine is wondrous and profound. Ms. Moore had blown us all away with her medical expertise and skills, but she also warned us that her treatment method, though effective, would also drain a lot of energy. Her condition may be stable for now, but sheâs going to need a lot of rest. With this IV drip and proper nutrition, she should be back to her old self in no time at all. That said, Ms. Moore has anemia, so thatâs even more reason for her to take better care of herself. If she continues to work herself to the bone, who knows how it might affect her health in the future?â
âI understand. Thank you for your help,â Carter answered with a grateful nod.
âDonât mention it. Well then, Mr. Morgan, I shall take my leave now. The patient in the emergency room has gotten transferred to the ICU, and I have to check on him.â
âOf course, go ahead.â
After watching the surgeon leave, Carter turned to look at Arielle.
Just as he was about to reach for his phone to contact Vinson, Arielle suddenly shot a hand out to grab his wrist.
Carterâs initial shock was quickly replaced with relief when he saw that Arielle had opened her eyes.
âYouâre awake?â
âYes,â Arielle replied with a slight nod. âAre you about to call Vinson?â
âThatâs right. Given your current state, if I donât inform him â
Before Carter could finish his sentence, Arielle interrupted, âNo, keep it from him for the time being.
Before he left for Horington, he had reiterated how important the trip was to him. Besides, he should be coming back soon. Letâs not distract or worry him.â
Carter remained silent for a moment before letting out a chuckle. âYou and Vinson are truly made for each other.â
âWhy do you suddenly say that?â
âDo you still remember that cruise incident?â
âYes.â
âThe truth was, Vinson didnât want to put you in any more danger, so he used himself as bait. He succeeded in luring those guys out, but unfortunately, the mastermind didnât fall for the trap.â
Arielle listened in stunned silence, her heart hammering away in her chest.
âI canât believe Vinson did that. He thinks far too highly of himself, doesnât he?â
