Chapter 1426
Arielle Moore and Vinson Nightshire
Chapter 1426 He Has Guts Vinsonâs gaze darkened. It looks like heâs really not my father-in-law. I need to switch up my strategy to locate him.
As the thought crossed Vinsonâs mind, he saw Dylan was about to speak when Arielleâs voice rang out.
âYour Majesty, heâs quite skilled in combat. Do you think he could stay to protect me?â
Dylan had not expected to hear that suggestion from her. But it does make sense. After all, her life is under threat. Now that she has met someone who can protect her in critical situations, itâs understandable that sheâd want to hire him as a bodyguard.
Moreover, he had already heard of what happened to the bodyguards, and he was alarmed to hear how badly injured they were. I probably wouldnât have had the chance to see my precious daughter again if it werenât for this young manâs help. Iâm worried for her safety. We havenât caught the culprits yet, and they failed in their mission. Hence, itâs likely that thereâll be another attempt on her life. I wonât let anyone harm her again, not even a single hair on her head. It seems that itâs indeed time to get her a better bodyguard.
Dylanâs gaze shifted to Vinson subconsciously, and he asked, âWhatâs your name?â
âMy surname is Knightley,â Vinson replied, changing it from âNightshireâ to âKnightley.â
âWhat do you work as? How did you become so skilled?â
Arielle furrowed her brows as she glanced toward Vinson. She had come up with the plan of letting Vinson become her bodyguard at the last minute. Hence, they had not discussed anything beforehand, and she did not know how Vinson would handle Dylanâs questions.
Vinson looked at Dylan and replied in an apologetic tone, âMy apologies, but Iâm afraid I canât answer that.â
I havenât gotten everything in order yet. If I make up an answer recklessly, whatâll happen if the king sends someone to look into it? The best solution is to reveal nothing. That way, he wonât have any clues to help him dig up any information about me.
Dylan was stunned. Iâm the king, yet he dares to talk to me in that manner.
Pretending to be enraged, he fixed Vinson with a stern glare and said, âYou know who I am, but you still dare to talk to me like that?â
Vinson raised his eyebrows. âEveryone has their secrets. Moreover, youâre not a tyrant. Why wouldnât I dare to talk to you like that?â
Dylan was secretly a little pleased when he heard that. Not bad. He has guts!
Gazing at Vinson, he said in a sincere tone, âIâm truly grateful to you for saving Ms. Moore from such a dangerous situation. Unfortunately, the danger hasnât passed. Since youâre a skilled fighter, I wonder if I could hire you as Ms. Mooreâs bodyguard for the time being.â
âThatâsâ¦â Vinson turned to glance at Arielle, a torn look on his face. âI still have some business to attend to, so Iâm temporarily ââ
Without waiting for Vinson to finish his sentence, Dylan cut in and said, âIâm willing to hire you at three times your current salary.â
Arielle also looked up at Vinson. Well, well⦠He puts on quite a convincing act. Even though he desperately wants to be my bodyguard, heâs acting as if itâs an imposition.
âMr. Knightley, Iâm sure you know Iâm a doctor and that your king specially invited me here. Turlen lacks medical practitioners, so Iâm here to impart my knowledge. But you can see for yourself the predicament Iâm in. Iâd feel much more at ease with you by my side to protect me,â said Arielle while looking at Vinson with an earnest expression.
Vinsonâs eyes flitted to Arielle imperceptibly. I wouldnât have expected anything less from my wife.
Sheâs on the same page as me and has a tacit understanding of my actions. If I agree too quickly, I might arouse the kingâs suspicions. After all, Iâm only a stranger in his eyes. But if I pretend to hesitate and the king is serious about hiring me, itâd work more to my advantage.
