C H A P T E R 8

Lily's POV

We spent time in his office until we had to go for Ben's football game. We had left in our separate cars and he said he would come pick me up. I had gone and freshened up and I was waiting for him to come. I was excited to watch Ben it was always exciting.

She had decided on a pretty casual outfit for the game.

Adonis came and picked me up and we went to the game. We got to the box and Jane was already there but so were Damien's parents. Adonis was carrying popcorn that we had decided we were going to share and I was carrying our drinks. Damien's mother saw and waved very enthusiastically with a chin splitting grin on her face, Damien's mother had always been slightly hostile towards me but after a while I hadn't really cared anymore. I gave her a slight smile because she has to feel slightly odd about me but she doesn't seem like that.

Adonis led us to our seats and I placed our drinks in the cup holders. Jane came to us and said ,'Hey Adonis.'

Adonis smiled and said ,'Hi Jane, I heard something interesting.'

Jane narrowed her eyes at me and I raised my hands in defense. Adonis chuckled and said ,'A certain birdie told me that things are finally moving.'

She groaned and said,'Who told you?'

Adonis shrugged and she rolled her eyes at him. Mr and Mrs Howard came to us with smiles on their faces. When they reached us Mrs Howard said ,'Hello everyone.'

We sounded like little kids the way we collectively said hello in reply. She shook hands with everyone and when she got to Adonis she said ,'You're a new face.'

Adonis nodded and said ,'Adonis Hamilton.'

She nodded and proudly said ,'I'm Nina and this is my husband Jack, we're Damien's parents.'

Adonis nodded and said ,'It's nice to meet you.'

Mrs Howard then turned to me with a look of mocking sympathy and said ,'How've you been?'

Mrs Howard didn't think I was good enough for her son obviously and now that we had broken up I had no doubt she was here to rub it in my face. I smiled at her and said ,'I've been good how have you been?'

Mrs Howard blinked and said ,'I'm great I have a new daughter in law, did you hear about that? '

I gave her a tight smile and said ,'Yeah I saw at the Charity Ball, they suit each other.'

She gave me another tight lipped smile and said ,'Yeah they are both very good looking people.'

I gave her a bitchy smile and said ,'I was thinking of them suiting because of something else but if thats what you think then why not.'

She narrowed her eyes and said ,'I'm sorry my son cheated but what can you do when you aren't happy in your relationship.'

She really took a low blow right there. She obviously knew that naturally my self esteem was bruised. I was not going to let a woman like her have the last word, not today. I was raised in a family enough to to handle entitled bitchy women.

I smiled at her and said ,'Well maybe he wasn't happy I wouldn't know, but cheating Mrs Howard shows a very glaring weakness in the way a mother raised her son. No real man should disrespect a woman that way.'

Her mouth was agape and I smiled sweetly at her and said ,'Now if you'll move out of my way I came to watch a football game.'

She didn't move and I said ,'Is that a problem?'

She moved away and with a wave and a sugar coated voice I said ,'It's always nice to see you Mrs Howard.'

I plopped onto my seat with a groan and Adonis took a seat next to me. He held my hand and said ,'You good?'

I nodded with a sigh and he said ,'You're hot when you do that.'

I laughed and turned to look at him and said ,'When I do what?'

He smiled at me and said ,'You know, handle people.'

I laughed and his face turned serious and he said ,'You know what she said isn't true right?'

I put my head on Adonis's shoulder because I could not lie to him and say that I knew because right now, I didn't know.

The football game was going great for Ben he had been dominating all the plays they were using. Jane was really giddy for him and it was amazing to watch. Adonis was watching but he was getting a lot of business calls and he'd get up and attend to them and come back. I felt guilty because he was a football game instead of at work because I didn't want to come alone afraid of what I might bump into here.

Adonis came back and sat down with a grunt and I said ,'You can go to work.'

He turned to me and said ,'No everything's okay.'

I didn't really believe him and I said ,'Seriously I'll handle it, I don't know why I didn't want to before but you're obviously needed.'

He said ,'I said yes because I wanted to so I'm staying.'

I leaned back into my seat and we continued watching. It was half time and Adonis got up and whispered ,'I'll be right back, I'm going to the bathroom.'

I nodded at him and he gave a kiss on the cheek. I pulled out my phone and started scrolling through the comments on the post of Adonis and I's hands, some of them were funny but most of them people were asking who it was and guessing.

Jane came to me and said ,'Guess who's here?'

I raised my eyebrows questionably because I had no idea. She rolled her eyes and said ,'Emily.'

I smiled and said ,'Oh really.'

Jane looked at me and said ,'Yes really, are you going to confront her?'

I thought carefully because if I went to her it would seem like I care way too much. I looked over Jane's shoulder where Emily was standing with a group of girls and said ,'Only if she decides to start with me.'

Jane frowned and said ,'I really wanted you to take on two bitches today.'

I laughed and Jane said ,'Can you believe that girl was one of our best friends for years.'

I nodded and said ,'Yeah that's the worst part about the whole thing. It like she flipped a switch and just changed.'

Jane hummed then said ,'Okay but like how great is Ben playing today.'

I laughed and said ,'Jane if you smile any wider you might just break your face.'

She flipped me off and said ,'Gosh, and he looks absolutely fuckable in his uniform.'

I made a face at her words and she said ,'It's the way you feel about Adonis when he is in his suit and at work.'

I had texted on the girls group chat when I was in Adonis's office that he looked completely fuckable in his element. I couldn't disagree because Adonis was completely fuckable in his office today.

She knew I had agreed and said ,'See , completely fuckable.'

Adonis came and sat back down and said ,'Who is completely fuckable?'

My eyes widened and Jane said ,'I was just telling Lily that Ben looks completely fuckable in his uniform.'

I sighed in relief because I thought Jane had covered tor me but she obviously had other ideas. She continued and said ,'She didn't agree about Ben so I told her I felt the way she said she felt when you were at work earlier today.'

My eyes got even wider and Adonis looked at me smugly and said ,'Is that so? '

I angrily narrowed my eyes at Jane and her eyes widened in realization. I swear sometimes that girl doesn't think. She gave me a smug look and I knew she did it on purpose and it wasn't a slip.

She said ,'Oops my bad.'

She started walking away from us and when she looked at me I raised my pinky finger at her. The pinky finger was something we had all picked and was just how we said fuck you or I'll get you back and in this moment I meant both.

I started looking everywhere except for him. I could see his smile from my peripheral view and I tried to ignore it because I could feel my lips twitching. I was embarrassed that Jane had exposed me but his smile was so contagious right now. I was looking around and I made eye contact with Emily and my face remained stoic and I looked at Adonis.

Adonis smiled and said ,'So you finally looked me.'

I just looked at him whilst I was drinking out of my straw and I shrugged. He continued and said ,'How did Jane describe it again, oh yeah, she said fuckable.'

I was blushing major but I didn't look away from him. He came closer to my face and whispered ,'So tell me Rose, at what point did you see me as completely fuckable.'

I put my drink down and raised my eyebrows at him. He laughed and said ,'Fine I guess, I'll just assume what I want.'

I knew he wanted me to speak but I didn't even want to have to explain to him that he always looked fuckable but when he was bossing people around he looked even more fuckable. Not to mention I wanted him to have his way with me right there on his office desk but he didn't need to know that.

I turned to him and said ,'We should have bought liquorice.'

He looked at me and said ,'You want some?'

I nodded with a frown and he said, 'Let's go get some.'

My frown deepened and I said ,'We don't have to I'll have some later at my house, I have a stash.'

He raised his eyebrows and said ,'You have a stash of liquorice?'

I shrugged and said ,'Not just of liquorice , I have a stash of candy.'

He scrunched his face and said ,'I hate sweet things.'

I laughed and said ,'Yeah I noticed, today you had black coffee like a mad man.'

He rolled his eyes at me and I smiled sweetly at him.

I leaned back into my seat and Adonis turned to me and said ,'Do you think I would be a good roommate?'

I shrugged and said ,'Yeah, I think so.'

He then asked again ,'So you think it would be okay living with me?'

I raised my eyebrows at him because these are some very odd questions to be asking. I looked into his eyes and he looked a bit nervous.

I nodded and said ,'Yeah, I mean I like being with you so I guess it would be okay. Why do you ask?'

He shook his head as a reply and I just looked at him oddly. I wonder why he would ask me that. My phone pinged and I switch it on and I saw a text from Jenny my assistant and she was asking me about going for interviews and stuff. I replied saying yeah I could but she had to fit it into my schedule and also she knew the ones I didn't like.

I looked up and Adonis was already looking at me and he still looked nervous. I scrunched my eyebrows and said ,'You sure, you're okay?'

He nodded but I wasn't convinced, he looked stressed about something. I was about to speak but he started speaking and said, 'I uhm wanted to ask you something. '

I nodded and he looked like he was getting more and more nervous . I put the back of my hand against his forehead but his temperature was normal, so he isn't sick so what's going on.

I furrowed my brows and said ,'Adonis you're scaring me, what's going on?'

He sighed then said ,'I was wondering you know, if maybe you wanted to move in with me, you can look at my house right now and see if you like it and if you don't we can buy and choose one together. I know you said you don't like the city anymore and I live not in the city so I was thinking maybe you'd like it better at my place and you don't seem to think I would make a bad roommate.'

I let him ramble on and on because he was nervous and it was so cute. When he stopped he looked at me nervously and all I said was ,'Okay.'

I turned away from him with a straight face because the game was starting again. From my peripheral view I had seen him visibly relax and lean back into his seat.

The second half was nerve wracking, the Los Angeles Chargers had come out on fire. Ben's team however still had their fire from the first half and just played a good game altogether. During the second half Jane and I had been very energetic and I think we were annoying people but Ben was playing so I personally couldn't care less and I'm sure Jane felt the same way.

The game was over and we were outside the locker rooms waiting for Ben when Damien walked out of his team's locker room and our eyes locked. He started walking towards where I was standing and said ,'Hey, you came to watch the game.'

I turned my head at an angle slightly and he said ,'Can I talk to you there for a second?'

I furrowed my eyebrows and ,'Uhm okay.'

We stood where he had motioned to for almost a minute and he was silent. I was on my phone replying to messages and stuff waiting for him to speak. He didn't speak for another minute so I looked at him and said ,'You wanted to talk to me.'

He scratched the back of his neck and said ,'Oh yeah sorry.' I gave him a are you serious look.

He started and said ,'I really just wanted to apologise about the whole cheating thing.'

I gave him a blank look and said ,'Okay.'

I was about to walk away and he said ,'Wait.'

I internally groaned and stopped and as he was about to speak Emily came. She looked me up and down and said ,'Lily, you're here.'

I gave her a fake smile and said ,'Yeah I am.'

I was at a point where I couldn't care less about Damien but with Emily, it was personal. She backstabbed and now she wants to be talking shit to the media and that didn't sit right with me because now she was just trying to bully me and I wasn't for it.

She said ,'How've you been?'

I tried to keep calm and said ,'I've been good. I know you really want to know since you're just sooooo obsessed with me.'

She narrowed her eyes at me and said ,'What the fuck gave you the idea I'm obsessed with you.'

I smiled sweetly at her and said ,'I mean with the way you talk about me in the media .'

She gave me what was supposed to be a threatening look and said ,'I'm not obsessed with you.'

I rolled my eyes and said ,'To be honest with you two, I couldn't care less about the two of you so I advice you do the same and not care about me.'

She smiled and said ,' Oh really.'

I looked at her and said ,'Yes really. We may have been friends before but now that we are not I suggest you remember your place and since you are doing that remember where my place is compared to yours. '

Fear flickered in her eyes because she knew I was right. My parents were sixty percent of the investment in her family's company and if they pulled out it wouldn't be too good. I met Emily when my parents had invested in Emily's parents company because it had been on the downfall.

I stepped closer to her and whilst I was looking at my nails said ,'Don't forget I can be a spoiled entitled ruthless heiress and a bitch.'

I looked at them with a fake smile and said ,'I hope we are clear.'

She gave me a stiff nod and I smiled and said ,'Okay bye,' whilst walking away from them back towards Adonis.

Adonis was standing by himself on his phone in the hallway. I got to him and held his arm and he looked at me and said ,'Handled?'

I nodded with a smile and we walked where Ben and Jane were standing. I looked at Damien and Emily and they looked like they were having a heated conversation where I had left them.

I smiled at Ben and said ,'Mister Quarterback, what happened to you last night that today you were just on fire.'

Jane narrowed her eyes at me because she knew I wanted to get payback for what she told Adonis.

Ben grinned and said ,'I don't know but I better keep it around.'

When Ben said this the tips of Jane's ears turned pink. I internally groaned Ben wasn't going to let me embarass her so I gave up for today.

We all left going our separate ways and Adonis dropped me off after he decided that tomorrow I could go see his house and decide if I liked it or not.
