C H A P T E R 3

Lily's POV

After I had been with my mum, I had finished off and gone home. I had spent almost two hours reading my new book and I decided I should probably start getting ready for the Ball.

I went and took a shower and even washed my hair. My hair was by my waist when let down and I loved my hair at it's length I don't know why. I dried and oiled my hair and brushed it put and then put on a gown so I could do my hair and makeup. I had natural looking makeup on with a bold red lip, and I had my hair split in the middle and slicked bad into a low ponytail.

I put on my dress and took a few mirror pictures. I put my lipstick, a pack of tissues and my phone in my clutch and walked into my walk in closet to pick necklace. I decided on my simple diamond necklace and put it around my neck. As I was trying to put my necklace on the house phone started riniging. I picked up the phone and and they said Adonis was downstairs and I said to let him up.

My nerves spiked now that he was here and the necklace wasn't clipping. I groaned and walked to the living room with the necklace in my hand and looked in the mirror I had there and made sure I looked presentable. The doorbell rung and I put my clutch on the couch and went to open it. There Adonis stood looking hot as fuck in his tux that accentuated his broad shoulders and his worked out chest. I realised I looked really bad just staring at him as he stood there so I quickly moved out the way for him to come in. I went to the couch and picked up my clutch and realised I still had my necklace in my hand. I tried to put the necklace on again but with Adonis in the room staring at me it was worse.

I turned to look at him and said ,'Hey, do you mind helping me put on this necklace.'

He nodded and came towards me and I was mesmerised and I was looking into his dark blue eyes. He came to a stop in front of and we kept looking into each others eyss and I gave him the necklace then turned around. He put the necklace on me and then he leaned down to my ear and whispered ,'You look absolutely stunning.'

He moved away and I felr my cheeks heat up considereably. His voice was so husky and it always sends chills down my spine. I whispered a thank you but I doubt he heard me.

He looked at me and said ,'You ready to go?'

I nodded and he put his hand on my back and led me out of the door. I turned to lock my door and he put his hand back on my waist and we walked to the elevator. We got to the lobby and I waved at Kevin the concierge and thanked the doorman as he opened the door for us. We walked out of the building and there was a driver with the door open of a Rolls Royce. I looked at the car in awe it was probably my favorite Rolls Royce of the one's I have seen.

I thanked the chauffeur and got in and I saw Adonis walking around to the other side and got in. We were driving towards the Ball amd I was getting even more nervous the closer we got. I started playing with my chain and then Adonis spoke. I wasn't completely sure if I was imagining things so I turned to look at him. Adonis was looking at me like he was waiting for an answer so that means he spoke.

He spoke again and said ,'You're nervous.'

I nodded and said ,'Is it that obvious?'

He nodded with a chuckle and I liked the sound of his chuckle just like I liked the sound of his voice. He then took my hand in his and said ,'It's going to be great , don't worry.'

I now felt a bit more calm and took a deep breath. I thought he was going to let go but he didn't instead he started rubbing circles on my hand with his thumb. We sat in comfortable silence till we got there.

Adonis got out of the car and as I was about to open the door it opened and Adonis stood there with his hand outstretched for me to take. I took it and I felt like everything was in slow motion, he helped me out of the car and put his hand behind my car and led me past the papparazzi who were there. I could hear all the questions directed towards Adonis and I but he led me onto the carpet. We stopped and took a few pictures and then walked away without saying a word in response to all the questions being asked.

We got to the staircase and gave our names and the announcer said ,'Mr Hamilton and Miss Hart.'

I took a deep breathe and walked down the stairs without making eye contact with anyone and with Adonis hand on my waist. I turned to look at him and he gave me a wink and I kept walking but I was smiling at the floor. We got to the bottom and the rounds started, we had people asking about us and somehow we both came up with ways to answer without denying or accepting that we were dating. I have to say I think we looked and sounded damn good together, I mean Adonis is an absolute charmer but he does it without really smiling which is weird.

I saw Adonis's parents and took his hand and led him to them and I hugged both of them saying hello. As soon as the greeting were done Mrs Hamilton started and said ,'Look at you two, you look absolutely gorgeous together. Oh my God ,Lily your dress is just wow.'

Adonis and I chuckled and I said ,'Thank you Mrs Hamilton, and your dress is that from the Versace Fall Collection?'

She nodded and said ,'I wasn't sure if I should go with the light pink or the white.'

I shook my head and said ,'I think you made the right decision you look amazing.'

Adonis and his father were now chatting away and I was talking to Mrs Hamilton. I saw Jane waving at me and said ,'It was good talking to you guys, I'll see you later. Please enjoy the event.'

They nodded and Adonis put his hand back on my waist and I walked towards Jane and Ben who I think had come together. Jane was grinning and practically bouncing when I got to her. I hugged them both and said ,'Adonis this Jane and Ben my best friends and guys this is my boyfriend Adonis.'

They greeted each other and I said,'Guys I'll see you later, we have to finish the whole host thing.'

We walked away and I saw Damien and Emily coming in our direction and I turned and faced Adonis with wide eyes. He furrowed his eyebrows at me and said ,'You good?'

He looked behind me and I said ,'My ex boyfriend and my ex best friend are coming towards us.'

He looked down at me and nodded with a look that said I got it. I pretended as if I was fixing his bow tie and then turned back around and Damien and Emily stood in front of us. I smiled and said ,'Good Evening Emily and Damien, I really hope you are enjoying the event.'

Emily nodded and said ,'We are, who planned it?'

I smiled fakely because she knew I had been planning this but she wanted to act this way she can go the fuck on and so I said ,'That would be me.'

I saw them eyeing Adonis and I put my hand on his chest and said ,'Oh yeah, this is Adonis Hamilton, my boyfriend.'

I looked at Adonis's face with a smile and looked at Damien and Emily's faces. Damien looked as if he had been slapped in the face and Emily was giving Adonis a look I knew all too well, she gave that look to men when she wanted them. I narrowed my eyes at her and put my hand on Adonis's chest and she looked at me and I challenged her. Adonis put out his arm towards Damien to shake and they shook hands. Emily pushed her chest out and had her flirty face on and put her hand out for Adonis to shake but Adonis ignored her hand and acted like he didn't see it.

Adonis put his arm around my shoulder and then said to Damien ,'What do you do for a living?' Damien looked shocked that Adonis didn't know him, he was used to everyone knowing him, when we dated people used to fawn over Damien when we went out. There would be girls and guys but I would also have people coming up to me so it was equal really.

I looked up at Adonis to see if he really didn't know who he was or if he was taunting Damien and he looked dead serious. Damien then cleared his throat and said ,'I'm the quarterback for the Los Angeles Chargers.'

Adonis looked at Damien with a look that was just unimpressed and said ,'Well that's something.' Adonis's tone was mocking and at that moment I wanted to laugh.

Adonis is being a prick and a dick but right now I was enjoying it and I didn't mind at all. Damien looked like his ego had been deflated majorly and Damien needed it and Adonis was the perfect guy to do that, Adonis did it with class that you'd think did he just do that . I thought Adonis was done but then he continued on his ego bruising mission for Damien and said ,'I'm looking to buy a team, what do you think?'

I looked up at him in disbelief and said ,'Really?'

He nodded and looked down into my eyes and said ,'The owner of the 49ers came and asked if I was interested in buying the team.'

We probably looked weird, me looking up at him and him looking down at me with his arm around me. All I could respond was ,'Wow.'

The next thing he said however was even more shocking ,'Do you want a football team?'

I started laughing but when I looked up at him again I saw he was serious. I looked at him incredulously and said ,'You're serious, aren't you?'

He nodded and I said ,'I don't want a football team what do you even do with it?'

He shrugged and said ,'I don't know but if you want a football team I'll get you one, your wish is my command.'

I smiled shyly and looked down and he lifted my chin to look into his eyes. He winked at me and his eyes were glinting in amusement at how shy I was being. I leaned even closer to him and looked at Damien and Emily who had been watching us. I cleared my throat and said ,'Well I really do hope you guys enjoy the event.'

I pulled Adonis and started walking away and I saw Jenny calling me from the side of the stage. I turned to Adonis and said ,'I have to go on stage, I assume you'll be okay?'

He nodded and I kissed him on the cheek and walked towards Jenny. When I got to Jenny I started gushing and said ,'Jenny you look fucking fantastic. John fainted didn't he.'

John and Jenny got married last year and they were so cute. Jenny chuckled and said ,'Always the drama queen Lily and you look fucking fantastic too. With that very hot man you brought with.'

We both started laughing and then she said ,'You got to go on stage Lily.'

I nodded and walked onto the stage and the orchestra stopped the music and a lot of people turned towards. I put on a smile and said ,'Good Evening Ladies and Gentleman, I hope you're having a great time.'

There was applause and I waited till they were done and I said ,'Please take a seat. Welcome to the Annual Unicef and Hart Foundation Ball. Thank you all so much for coming.'

'Every year since 1982 we have hosted this Ball with Unicef for proceeds for Unicef and it's for a great reason as well. I won't bore you with details so without further ado I present the head of the Unicef team that we worked with Mrs Jones.'

I clapped as Mrs Jones made her way onto the stage and I gave her a hug and walked off the stage. Mrs Jones gave a short and sweet speech and presented the main course meal.

I waited for Mrs Jones and as she got down we hugged and I said ,'It was so good working with you for this event hopefully we'll meet again.'

She nodded and said ,'You did an amazing job and if it's up to me we will dedinitely be working together again. '

I walked to my table and I saw Damien staring at me and I knew that look. He always made that look when he wanted to do stuff. I rolled my eyes and saw Adonis looking at me too and I smiled and I saw a slight smile on his lip. I got to the table and sat and Jane said ,'If only they knew the type of person you really knew.'

This comment got Ben laughing and I said ,'Haha very funny Jane.'

Ben then turned serious and said ,'So I have a football game next week against the Chargers and I trust I'll see my two best friends there.'

I narrowed my eyes at him and said ,'You want me to go to a Chargers game and be attacked by those players.'

He shrugged and said ,'Maybe Adonis will come with you.'

We all turned to look at Adonis who had been talking to a guy I hadn't noticed before on his other side. He noticed us all looking at him, Ben and Jane with pleading looks on their faces and me with a look that said he better say no.

He looked at us with a plain face and said ,'What's up?'

Ben spoke and said ,'I have a football game next week and it's against the Chargers but Lily doesn't want to go alone so.'

He looked at me and said ,'Yeah sure that's fine.'

I slapped my forehead and he looked completely unbothered and continued talking to the guy he was talking to be before. I pouted and leaned back into my seat.

The ball was practically over and we were just waiting for the last people to leave so I could leave too. There were already cleaners cleaning up but there was a couple at the bar. I had told Adonis he could leave but he insisted he stay and said what type of boyfriend would he be if he left me. We were sitting on the chairs and just watching everyone do what they were doing and I groaned and said ,'Can these people leave. I'm tired and my feet are sore and I want to get home take a bath and sleep.'

I turned to Adonis and he was looking at me already. He then said ,'So your ex is the football player?'

I nodded and then he mumbled ,'Your taste is so bad now.'

I narrowed my eyes at him and said,'Excuse me, my taste isn't bad.'

He scoffed and said ,'The guy tried to be arrogant to a man who can buy him multiple times and can own a football team.'

I rolled my eyes and said ,'You were a prick to him, you know.'

He monotonously said ,'That was the goal. I mean the man was staring at you like you are his and you had just introduced me as your boyfriend. He needed to be put in his place.'

I laughed and said ,' You realise he cheated on me right ?'

He replied and said ,'Yeah and so.'

I groaned because he practically wanted me to say it out loud. 'It means he didn't find me exciting or attractive anymore if he ever did.'

Adonis's voice had softened when he said ,'Is that what you think?'

I looked him in the eye and said ,'Well yeah he cheated on me with my best friend and as much as I want to blame it on something else what else could have been the reason.'

He turned away and said ,'For someone who models you have really low self esteem.'

I shrugged and looked at the bar and saw that the men that were there were gone. I turned to him and said ,'They are gone we can go.' I grabbed his hand and practically dragged him out of the building. The Rolls was waiting for us and I jumped in and leaned backwards into seat and felt myself relax. I took my heels off and stretched out my toes.

When we got to my building I turned to say thank you to Adonis but I noticed he was already outside the car, I guess I'll talk to him outside then. I got out the car and he took my clutch and my shoes from me and then he motioned for me to get on his back and I did. Since he offered and I was tired I thought why not. We got to my apartment and he put me down then said ,'Fuck Damien he's a dumbass, you're gorgeous,' and walked away before I could reply.
