Chapter 50

Millionaire's Hot Secretary

"What? Who the hell is this?" I exhaled in fear, trying to call the person again but it wasn't possible.

My head started throbbing, my hands began to quiver, my heart left my body completely due to its excessive palpitation.

"H—Hames? Dead? Widow?" I huffed, shaking my head. "No way!" I bounced to my feet and ran out of the room while calling Hames' phone again, but it was still switched off.

The thought that Hames was dead struck me so bad and tears immediately started rolling down my face really fast. I was going breathless and feeling like I was about to faint.

I ran to Faith's room, banging my fists on the door really hard.

In a jiffy, the door flung open and Faith stood there looking annoyed.

"Why—" she stopped, her expression transformed to worry. "What's wrong? Why are you crying?"

"Hames. Someone just called to let me know Hames is dead."

"What?!" They all exclaimed.

"Someone, please call his phone. He might… I don't know..." I cried.

"How on Earth did it happen?" Lila asked and they both rushed to us.

"Someone threatened me previously that he's on a mission to kill Hames, then now this call to let me know…" I trailed off, sobbing.

"You shouldn't cry. How can you be certain?" Nikita said.

"It's past midnight but he isn't back yet." I screamed. "I have no idea where he could be." I rumpled my shirt in my hands really tight and started running from the room.

"Where are you going?" Faith yelled behind me and I heard footsteps behind me as I ran down the stairs and out of the house.

"Imogen!" Lila shouted.

I ran to the Drivers' house and started hitting the door.

Soon enough, a tired-looking man that was clearly a driver opened the door and came out.

"What brings you here, Mrs. Hendrix? Do you have to go somewhere?" He yawned.

"Which driver drove Hames out? Can I have his phone number?" I asked while breathing heavily.

"Actually, the boss drove himself. Is anything wrong?"

"Drove himself?!"

"Yes."

"Oh God,"

"Imogen, please calm down." Lila attempted to hold me but I started running again with three of them running behind me, and into the house, then to my bedroom.

I picked my phone and called Kade's phone number but it was also switched off, increasing my fear.

I could no longer breathe properly. How could my Hames be dead?

I spent the next hour crying, using up tissues and doing everything I possibly could to get in touch with Hames but to no avail.

I dropped to the floor and started wailing. Three of them crouched beside me, uttering consoling words to me.

"It's okay. I'm sure something's wrong somewhere. He's fine by God's grace." Lila hugged my head to her chest, caressing my back.

"I'll get more tissues and water for you." Faith rose to her feet while Nikita knelt beside me.

"How can Hames die? This isn't possible. After finally having feelings for him and can't do anything then he thinks he can leave me?" My voice broke at every word. "He desperately wanted to be a father but I didn't give him the chance." My eyes had leaked a sea of tears by now.

"It'll definitely be fine." Lila sounded really sad too.

"Is it because I didn't love him?" I raised my head to lock my eyes with hers. "I promise to love him if he returns to him. It's true that you never realize the worth of someone till you lose them. I need Hames to not be dead; I need him. I promise to give him children and grant him everything he wants but he has to return." I sniffled, sounding like a rat and feeling the need to faint.

"It'll be fine, I'm sure. At least you'll have enough from his money to make you happy and find someone new. Maybe that Tyler guy." Nikita shrugged.

I glared at her with every form of rage burning in my eyes. "Nikita, just shut the hell up!" I hollered. "This has nothing to do with money, okay? I just got married, he's my husband, and now I received a stupid call that he's dead. What do I do now? Celebrate that I still have billions of dollars and forget that someone who clearly loves me with his whole heart just died?"

"No, I didn't…" she trailed off.

"Okay, we can't—"

"Imogen!" Faith exclaimed, cutting Lila off.

I lazily rolled my eyes to her, awaiting what she had to say next but didn't pay attention to her anymore after Hames strolled in behind her with his suit coat hanging over his shoulder.

I jumped to my feet and ran to him. I was more than shocked to see him. Was this a dream or something?

"What's wrong?" He asked, handing his suit coat over to Faith.

I hugged him really tight, still unable to believe that he was really here.

"What's happening?"

I tried to reply to him but couldn't due to my endless sobbing.

He finger-combed my hair, rubbing my back soothingly.

"Will anyone tell me what's happening? Firstly, Faith saw me and started running away. Imogen is crying and you all look so shocked to see me like I'm a ghost or something."

I pulled away from him, holding his face while stroking his cheeks with my thumb. "How— I'm so confused."

"Why?"

"I received a call from someone who said— they said returning from Paris was a good thing for him or her and you've been killed." I touched his shoulders and arms, confirming that he was indeed Hames and not a ghost.

"I told you you didn't have to be worried." Lila said.

"That's crazy. Who the hell could it be?" He frowned.

"I don't know. The voice sounded like a man's voice as well as a woman's and a child's voice. I couldn't pick who it was." Tears were still rolling down my face and my head was pounding badly from the terrible headache I was having.

"Please let's take a seat." He led me to sit on the bed, sitting beside me.

"Where were you? I called you a million times but you weren't answering, then it said it was switched off." I sniffled while Nikita, Lila and Faith stood in front of us.

"I lost my phone, I'm sorry."

"Where the hell were you and why are you just returning home after midnight? What if something terrible actually happened to you?" Where were these tears coming from?

"No terrible thing can happen to me as long as you are mine. I had to work with Kade then we decided to hang out in a club." He wiped my tears with fingers. "Stop crying."

"A club?" I scoffed, frowning. "You were at a club while I almost died from worrying about you? Why? Checking hot women out?" I clenched my fists.

He chuckled, fueling my frustration.

"Is this a joke to you? I thought I was going to die and now I have a terrible headache but you were enjoying your life at a club. Wow, what a waste of time."

"We only wanted to get rid of the day's stress. I'm sorry, don't be mad at me." He held my hands.

"Who the heck could've broken such news to you?" Lila asked.

"Yeah, what's the person's aim? It's similar to the message you received back in Paris." Faith said worriedly.

"I'm certain it's just a joke or something. Some people tend to prank celebrities or anyone else just to have more followers or subscribers. I'm very certain it's nothing important." He wasn't helping my anger at all with his nonsense.

"This isn't funny at all. It's not a joke, I'm certain it means you're in danger but you're being nonchalant. I think it's because you don't want to trust me. You think I'm crazy, right?" I rose to my feet.

"No. Of course I trust you."

"Please let's leave."

"Where are you going?" He drew his eyes in askance.

"My best friends are here and have gone through so much stress because of me so I think I'd prefer to stay in a room with them tonight. Let's go." I furiously held Nikita's arm to lead her out with me.

"Imogen," he held me back.

"Let me go." I ordered frigidly.

"You're only doing this because you're mad at me. Please give us some privacy. I really appreciate all of your concern and care. Goodnight." He smiled at them.

They nodded in understanding then left the room.

After they slammed the door, I yanked my hand from his grip and climbed on the bed, covering myself with a duvet.

This stupid husband of mine was pissing me off so bad with the way he was ignoring this terrifying person.

He sighed then left for the bathroom after grabbing some clothes.

After a few minutes, he came out from the bathroom in his shorts and singlet, laid beside me and covered himself with the duvet.

I turned my face away from him so much back faced him.

I almost flinched when I felt his hand over my body.

"Let me be. I guess I was simply crying for no good reason."

I could feel his body against my back which proved that he shifted closer to me.

"My sweetheart, I definitely believe you."

"You think this is a prank. Do you know how terribly this has caused emotional stress to me? I feel crazy and you're worsening things."

"I'm sorry about that, I didn't mean it that way. After seeing this much concern from you, it bothers me and I promise I'll make sure this is investigated. Seeing you crying breaks me so bad. Whether or not I didn't take the text message seriously, I'd make sure to deal with this seriously. I can't let you cry anymore." He made me turn to face him.

He looked genuinely worried and wiped my tears I didn't realize were still falling from my eyes. "Is there anyone you suspect?" I asked and he shook his head. "I hope this isn't a trick to make me fall in love with you. If it is then I won't ever forgive you for almost bringing insanity upon me."

He frowned. "I promise it's not. Why would I want you to cry? I don't know and it's pissing me off so bad that it's affecting you so much." He brushed my hair.

The fact that he wasn't dead settled into my brain to clear up every form of worry and I hugged him really tight.

He chuckled. "I'm shocked to know you care about me this much. How can I ever love you any less?"

"Please don't think I'm crazy." I mumbled in his chest.

"Never."

I gave him a kiss, pouring out my worry, aggression, frustration and everything else into the kiss, ignoring the annoying taste of alcohol.

Kissing him calmed me down completely and was building up a different feeling. I had to stop the kiss before it advanced to something else, and returned to hugging him.

"Please don't ever scare me like that. I don't think I'd be able to live without you."

"I can't believe you just said that." He said amusedly.

My phone started ringing.

As much as I didn't want to, I had to stop hugging Hames to reach for my phone.

"That should be Amanda. I asked her to call you or leave a text if I haven't returned home by this time."

It was a text from an unknown ID again. "Hey, wifey. I hope you enjoyed my little joke. I was just messing with your head and it was fun to watch you cry your eyes out." I read the message out loud.

"The crazy person again?" His face went stern.

A name was ringing in my head but I was unable to place my finger on it. "Who could… wait— Amanda?" My eyes widened. "Amanda!"
