Chapter 80
Mr George, Don't Be So Arrogant
Sarahâs eyes looked in the direction of Rileyâs gaze. Kaysorn was already not in sight, âWhat are you looking at? Are there cute boys around here?
Your eyeballs were about to fly out of its sockets.â
Riley poked her forehead, âOther than cute boys, what else do you have here? Stop thinking about men.â
âI think about money too! I need it to flirt with the hotshots, donât I? Hehe.â Sarah continued to scan the vicinity but spotted no cute or handsome men.
âYour life goal is pretty simple. You only need a man and money.â
âNooo, I need you too! Hahaha!â
Whenever the two best friends were together, they were able to be themselves. Riley leaned on the sofa, her emotions and body were totally relaxed.
âHave you done anything useful after returning to the country for so long? You graduated already. When are you planning to work?â
A handsome guy squeezed in between the two, and in his hands were wine glasses, âDonât just keep chatting. What about if we play Ring Of Fire?
Letâs get the night started!â
The crowd cheered upon hearing his suggestion. Riley wanted to reject them, but she couldnât withstand the many people who came to persuade her.
In the end, she agreed to join the game for a short while.
As a newbie, she completely lost the first round.
âOne shot! Pretty doctor, that was a good one! Come on, letâs continue!â
Once Sarah started drinking, she was unstoppable. The more she drank, the more excited and sober she became. She could never get drunk, and that was a fact.
During the game, Riley lost a few more rounds. Sarah gulped down the alcohol she was supposed to drink at twice the volume.
Even so, she drank two glasses of beer and half a shot of whiskey.
âIâm going to the restroom for a bit.â
âOkay okay...you guys, donât stop the game. Fuck you, Mr. Parry. How dare you pull a trick in front of me! Youâre courting for death! Quickly, gulp it down!â
Riley stood before the bathroom counter and washed the back of her hand and her arm with the tap water. The alcohol in her stomach was burning again. Her low tolerance of alcohol would definitely kill her one day.
At the other corner of the bar.
Kaysorn smirked and waved for his subordinate to come over. He lowered his voice and whispered his orders in his ears.
âYes, boss.â
âAfter itâs done, youâll be rewarded. But if you mess it up...â
âDonât worry, boss. I will succeed!â
After Riley washed her face, her mind finally cleared up a little, but her face was still flushing with redness. Blurrily, she seemed to have seen Euanâs face in the mirror. This time, she knew it was just an illusion.
A waiter happened to pass by with a tray of glasses filled with drinking water when Riley came out from the restroom.
âIâd like a glass of water, please.â
âSure, Miss.â
Riley picked up a glass and gulped it down. Once she was in a better state, only then did she go back to Sarah.
âItâs getting late. Sarah, Iâm going home first. You guys continue.â
Euan and Lydia should be asleep by now. It was good news for her as long as she didnât have to bump into them.
âYouâre leaving earlier again...Hey, whatâs wrong? Your face is so red. Ugh, itâs all my fault for not protecting you well enough just now. Let me send you home as redemption for my sins.â
âYou want to send me home? Forget it. You canât drive when youâre drunk. Iâll just hail a cab.â
âNo! What kind of best friend would I be if I let you do that? Hey guys, Iâll be leaving with this beauty now. You guys have fun!â
The two ladies exited the bar. The night wind which blew on their skin was refreshing. Sarah released a hiccup, stretched her arms up, and tried to put it around Rileyâs shoulder, âIs that bitch still staying in the villa?â
âYeah, sheâs playing the role as the master of the house pretty well. Ordering the people here and there and whatnot.â
It was freaking annoying!
They chatted while walking and were already a distance away from the bar unknowingly.
âWhat the fuck? What is Euan even thinking? He wouldnât divorce with you, but he wouldnât let go of Lydia Saunders either. Fuck him! Hey...Riley, whatâs wrong?â
As Sarah was happily cursing her heart out, Riley suddenly slumped and squatted on the ground with her arms around her stomach.
âSarah, my...stomach...hurts...â
Once she finished her words, her face turned pale from the redness there a little while ago. She was now as pale as a ghost, and there were barely any colours on her face.
âWh-what? Even period pain isnât this extreme. Donât scare me! How painful is it?â
Sarah tried to pull her to stand, but Rileyâs stomach was clenching in pain, and she didnât have any strength at all. The beads of sweat on her forehead were increasing, and her back was wet from her sweat in less than a minute.
This pain didnât feel like period pain, nor was it like the burn from alcohol...
But...
Riley was startled, âSarah, send me...to the hospital!â
She was probably poisoned.
âOkay, okay. Donât be afraid, Iâll get us a cab now!â
However, ever since they came out of the bar, no cab was in sight on the roads. Although Sarah was a person who was never afraid of anything, Rileyâs painful, trembling look frightened her to bits.
âRiley, hold on. Weâll reach the hospital in a short while...â
Finally, they got into a cab, but they were still quite a distance away from the hospital. Riley felt that she might not be able to wait anymore.
In less than twenty minutes, Riley had already lost all her strength because of the piercing pain from her stomach, which then traveled to her whole body. Her clothes were now all wet from her sweat. Her hands were pressed tightly against her stomach, strands of hair stuck to her face, and her lips had turned purple from the pain.
âSa...rah...If I die, you...â
âHey! Stop that nonsense! Give me your phone! Isnât that assistant head of the hospital of yours an expert? He must have a way to save you! Riley, just rest and donât speak!â
Sarah reached her hand out to look for Rileyâs phone in her handbag. With her shaking hands, she finally managed to get a hold of it after quite some time. Then, she swiped a few times on the screen before dialing out a number...
âWilliam Hardesty! Something happened to Riley! Please save her...boohoo!â
William was already in his pajamas, about to sleep in a moment. After he picked up the call, he was obviously stunned for a second, âRiley Watson?â
It was her phone number. That was right.
âboohoo, yes, Riley Watson! Weâre on our way to JD Central Hospital now. Come quick...she...she looks like she is going to die.â
âIâll be right there!â
William couldnât even care to change. While still dressed in his pajamas and house slippers, he grabbed his car keys and dashed downstairs like a mad man.
Upon getting into the car, he started the engine and stepped on the accelerator to its maximum. He sped into the distance with his Mercedes Benz S600 like how one would drive their sports car. The shadows of trees on both sides of the roads overlapped and were indistinguishable at this point.
William even ignored the traffic lights. Right now, he only had Riley in his mind as he kept thinking to himself, âRiley, wait for me! Iâll save you!â
When the doctors in JD Central Hospital saw William who came in his pajamas, a great wave of shock washed over them.
It was unbelievable for them to see Mr. Hardesty, who always had a cut-out suit and a well-ironed white coat on him, appeared in this state and was circling the emergency lobby like a mad man in the middle of the night.
When William arrived at the lobby, Riley and Sarah were still on their way. Despite the greetings and surprised looks from the other staff, William dashed out once again and dialed Rileyâs phone number.
âWhere are you guys?â
âWeâll be there soon...â
âTell me the car plate number!â
Sarah stuttered the string of numbers out with difficulty. Two minutes later, they finally arrived at the hospital. Once the cab stopped, a tall figure ran to the car door at the speed of light.
âRiley! Riley, wake up! Mr. Hardesty, she fainted!â
âOpen the door!â
William carried Riley in his arms, then dashed to the operating room. One of his slippers even slipped off from his feet on the way.
Initially, Sarah was shocked because of Riley, but now she was utterly stunned by how fast William ran with Riley in his arms...
Damn it, was he a superhero? How could he look so attractive even from behind?
Sarah was a girl who couldnât resist handsome men. Even right now, she didnât forget to praise William for how good-looking he was!
Although she didnât see his face clearly, his back view was already enough to win over the other 99% of the men she knew.
As for that 1%...
âRiley!â
Sarah suddenly came back to her senses. Damn it, where was Riley!
While William was carrying Sarah to the operating room, he was very anxious, âGet the stretcher! And set up the operating room!â
âDr. Watson, wake up!â
He hit her face with some force, but there was no reaction from her at all.
Judging from her complexion and the colour of her lips, she was severely poisoned.
When Sarah reached the operating room, the door closed right in front of her.
In a daze, she stared at the closed door and slumped to the ground. Her makeup had already smeared from her tears, and her face was coloured with the mix of eyeliner and eyeshadow. Her face looked like a colour palette.
âRiley...please be safe...boohoo...Iâm sorry...Iâll never ask you out to drink anymore...Iâm sorry...â
Sarah leaned on the wall and just stared at the door without even blinking. If anything were to happen to Riley, she wouldnât want to live anymore.
In the operating room.
âMr. Hardesty, it seems like Dr. Watson...â
âShut up! Gastric suction!â
âYes...â
Rileyâs breathing was faint, and her heartbeat was getting weaker by the minute. William pressed onto her heart firmly, âDr. Watson, wake up! You cannot sleep!â
âBluek!!â
The filth came out of Rileyâs mouth. The contents in her stomach were all mixed around, but she didnât know that. And, of course, she wouldnât be able to see William who was on the verge of getting mad as his eyes filled up with warm liquid.
âInject! Detox!â
âMr. Hardesty, this kind of poison is very harmful. You should put on the gloves...â
âInject!â
âYes, yes!â
William held Rileyâs face, which was now as pale as snow with his two hands, âWake up! Youâve always been a strong woman. You are a woman who can fight death. You cannot die, do you hear me? Wake the hell up!â
The doctors at the side did not dare to say anything upon seeing Williamâs current state.
It was rumoured that something was going on between Mr. Hardesty and Dr. Watson, and that Dr. Watson seduced Mr. Hardesty...but what they saw today was completely different.
Mr. Hardestyâs feelings for Dr. Watson were real! It didnât look like Dr. Watson seduced him at all...
Moreover, it looked like Mr. Hardesty would die if anything were to happen to Dr. Watson judging from how anxious he was earlier.
âMr. Hardesty, the poison in Dr. Watsonâs body had mixed up with her blood. The antidote needs a few hours to detoxify her blood. Now, she wonât be waking up yet.â

He couldnât remember how he survived the past three hours. Every time Riley vomited or her heart rate dropped, he felt that she was falling off the cliff, and he so desperately wanted to pull her back up!
âFortunately, the rescue was in time. Otherwise, we wonât be able to imagine the consequences. How did Dr. Watson get poisoned like this?â
The two doctors pushed open the door to the operating room, and instantly, Sarah ran over to them, looking like a female ghost. She grabbed onto their white coats tightly, âWhereâs my Riri?! Where is she?!â
