Chapter 7
Mr George, Don't Be So Arrogant
In a split second, the hall fell silent in the Georgeâs Family. With Euanâs words just now, each of the three individuals had a different reaction.
Riley felt as if she was slapped in the face; it was a slap enough to wake her up.
She already knew three years ago that she didnât belong in the George Family, but she always told herself that everything would be over.
Now, it appeared that both wishful thinking and expectations were unnecessary.
Divorce.
This terrible thought flashed across her mind. Riley had made up her mind in one second â She wanted a divorce!
âIâm going to the bathroom.â
Riley got up from her chair and disappeared around the corner into the bathroom. Then she exhaled the distasteful news she held out with a breath.
She felt as if her heart was congested.
Riley turned on the faucet and stared at her face with light makeup. As she let water run through her hands, she looked at the beautiful young face in the mirror, which now had hints of aging; even the blood strains were visible in her eyes. Just as her tears were about to fall, she tilted her head back to hold it in.
Was she crying over Euan? How foolish was that?
She didnât know that Hendrix already saw through all her pretense of tenacity and stubbornness.
âMy dear sister-in-law, donât you know to conserve water?â
Riley was startled and looked at the mirror, where another face appeared and their eyes met. She then realized that she took too long in the restroom.
She turned off the faucet and wiped her hands on a paper towel, âIs the George Family, with all your big businesses, concerned over a little running water?â
Hendrix bent a leg and leaned against the wall. He held his arms, and looked at Riley, âSister-in-law, donât you know that the richer someone is, the stingier they are?â
Riley was not in a joking mood with this rich spoilt brat. She wanted to pass by Hendrix, but his bent knee blocked the narrow passage. She wore a dress, so it wasnât appropriate for her to bypass over his leg. She glanced at him, âSo not only are rich folks stingy, they enjoy getting in the way?â
Hendrix let out a sly smile at her annoyed face, and kept up his smug attitude, âSister-in-law, youâre quite funny; youâre so beautiful and a renown doctor from a good background. So why doesnât brother want you?â
It was better if he said nothing. After his talk, Rileyâs surging anger burst out, âHendrix, whatâs between your brother and me is none of your business, now move.â
Hendrix deliberately stood his ground, âSister-in-law, if youâre unhappy with brother, you can consider divorce. You wonât inherit half his wealth, but Iâm sure youâll still get quite an alimony.â
Riley narrowed her eyes against Hendrixâs provocation. She gritted her teeth, âI said, move!â
Her anger aroused Hendrixâs desire to provoke her even more. His smile widened on his handsome face, his slender arm blocked the passage, his white hand rested on a tile across from him. He had trapped the tiny Riley completely!
âSister-in-law, if brother saw us like this, do you think heâd file for divorce right away?â
Rileyâs eyes widened and she clenched her fists. Then, the anger in her eyes suddenly turned into a cold laugh. âUncle, if brother saw you flirting with his wife, do you think heâd shoot you on the spot?â
Hendrix snarled and let down his arm, âTsk, I was just starting to think you were entertaining, and now youâre all serious again; no fun at all.â
âIf youâre looking for someone fun, youâre looking at the wrong person.â
Hendrix let out a smile, âSister-in-law, youâre not still angry at me, are you? I really didnât know it was you earlier in the day.â
Riley didnât want to play along with him, âHmm, what happened in the day? I forgot.â
âGood, ignorance is bliss, not bad, not bad.â
With his hand gone, Riley held her dress and walked out.
After watching Riley leave, Hendrix turned to look at himself in the mirror. His lips let out a slight smile. Interesting, very interesting!
It looked like his return wasnât in vain.
At last, the awkward family dinner came to an end.
Riley and Euan no longer showed the level of affection they had before. They left the George Family mansion separately. Outside, it was freezing cold, and Riley rub her arms several times to keep warm.
As the chauffeur opened the car door, Riley looked at Euan, who didnât show any response. Riley let out a cold smile, âWeâre not heading the same direction, you go ahead.â
Euan's voice was even deeper and sexier with the bristling cold wind, "Get in the car."
The corner of Rileyâs mouth arched upward, âThe dinnerâs over, thereâs no need to keep up the act, Mr. George.â
Whenever she addressed him like that, he has the urge to rip her apart. This ungrateful woman!
He stared at her sharply, his dark eyes were filled with impatience.
âDonât make me say it a third time, get in the car.â
A car door stood between the two of them. Euanâs tall figure was imposing in the night. Riley felt that, if she continued to resist, he would definitely take extreme measures to make her obey. She wasnât stubborn to that point yet.
âFine.â
She lowered her head and got into the backseat; warmth gradually returned to her body inside the heated car.
Euan walked to the opposite side and also sat in the backseat.
Now, the distance between them was suddenly closed in, much closer than they were at the dinner table. Even in the dark, Riley could hear her heartbeat pounding uncontrollably. The slight scent of tequila Euan had begun to entice Riley, and within a few seconds, she realized she was about to go insane, as her bodyâs hormone levels were going off the charts.
Damn it! Why was she unable to resist Euan at all!
"To YJ Villa."
What?
YJ Villa? Why were they headed there?
The YJ Villa was a wedding dowry at the time of their marriage, but they rarely stayed there.
The villa had been idle for nearly three years; surely dust must have taken over.
Riley bitterly said, âThe YJ Villa must be molding by now; what are you thinking?â
Euan crossed his long legs and shut his eyes to rest against the backseat. The sleepy Euan replied in a low voice, âGo home.â
The words struck Riley like thunder. Did he just say they were going home? Did Euan always regard that place as home?
Suddenly a slight hint of joy surfaced from the abyss to break past all the humiliation at the dinner table. Riley was immediately moved.
Did Euan really care about her that much?
Riley rubbed her hands and stole glances at the man besides her. His eyes and lips were shut, and his strong hands rested on his chest in a dignified manner.
The car parked before an independent villa; the area was extremely quiet late in the night. The moonlight and solar-powered streetlights illuminated the villa. The wind gently blew across the flowers and greenery in the yard; the entire villa did not appear deserted at all.
They got out the car and stood side by side at the entrance. Euan let out a sneer, âYou can stop pretending.â
Riley frowned and asked, âWhat am I pretending?â
Utterly unbelievable.
Euan entered the passcode, and the iron doors began to slowly open. He didnât look back as he said, âBack then, you did everything you could to get in the George Family; now youâre pretending to be all high and noble.â
Riley was wearing high heels, so her movement was a bit inconvenient. Also, they havenât been here for too long. The road was paved with pebbles, and as much as she tried to keep up, she was still behind Euan by quite a ways. âEuan, donât slander people! I want to get in the George Family?
Hah! All I wanted was...â
âAll I wanted was to marry you! That has nothing to do with the George Family!â
It was on the tip of her tongue, but she refrained from saying it.
Euan snickered, âWant what? You just wanted to get in the George Family to raise your social status, and get a cut of the family inheritance, no?â
Riley almost choked; he must be out of his mind!
âRight, youâre absolutely right! Thatâs exactly what I wanted!â Riley had her mind made up on the divorce, anyway, so it didnât matter what Euan thought of her now.
Euanâs cold stare scanned across her, then his uttered harsh, bitter words, âSo, you finally admit it.â
Mr George, Don't Be So Arrogant Riley bit her lips until it turned white. She tilted her head back and stared at Euan head on without any trace of fear, âNow that you know, then letâs be open and frank.â
Euan let out a slight snort, the right corner of his lip slightly raised, âReady to talk terms and conditions?â
Riley took strides forward, her high heels let out crisp sounds as they clicked against the pebbles, âSince Mr. George is so hasty, Iâll be straight forward. I donât want what happened today to occur again. Your parents donât like me, and berate me for not giving birth to a child for the Family. Well, itâs true, I canât have a child by myself.â
The two of them barely spent time together, how could she possibly get pregnant and have a child?
Halfway into her speech, Riley raised her skirt and climbed the staircase, âYou like Lydia, right? Fine, Iâll let you two be together. Youâve spent quite a lot of time together, right? But sheâs not pregnant, so looks like you two have taken a lot of precaution with contraceptives. But donât worry, you donât need to use those anymore; in the future, you can do whatever you want. Isnât it better if she got pregnant? Then she can marry into the George Family.â
Suddenly, Euan grabbed Rileyâs chin; if he used any more force, he would probably crush her bone. His deathly cold stare looked straight into her eyes, âWhat are you saying!â
Was this woman hinting a divorce? She would dare?!
Rileyâs chin began to hurt, but she still managed to utter, âEuan, what do you take me for? A slave you can command as you please?â
Euan had a murderous intent, âAre you even worthy to be my slave?â
Riley held in the pain in her heart and forced a smile, then continued to provoke him, âAre you even worthy to be my master?â
Euan pressed his face close to hers, until they could feel each otherâs breath, âHavenât you already witnessed firsthand?â
Euan, he was really bastard!
"Let go!"
"From the day you married me, you should already know you are my stuff; whatever is mine will stay mine forever!"
