Chapter 20
Mr George, Don't Be So Arrogant
Neon lights flashed within the Royal Club, adding layers of color to the night sky.
With the wound on her leg, Riley chose to wear a pair of silver studded and golden-tipped sneakers, with a black skirt to cover the heel of her leg.
Riley was tall and stood out amongst girls even if she didnât wear high heels. Normally, she didnât apply makeup, but tonight, she applied a light makeup and put down her long hair, instantly turning her into an elegant beauty.
The main lobby of the Royal Entertainment Center was filled with attractive women. Before she stepped foot into the lobby, Riley caught sight of Sarah in her bright red dress.
Sarah had a petite figure and wore a gown as red as fire. With her thin arms and legs, she tried to make her breast appear more ample and full. Her short hair was down by her ears, and donned on heavy makeup. Even though itâs been a year since Riley last saw her, Sarahâs every action, posture, and seductive eyes oozed a sense of flirtation.
Sarahâs father owned a listed company in Kyoto. She herself was a fashion designer with a bit of reputation in the industry. She won various recognitions from her recent Milan fashion week competition that just ended, and to celebrate, invited various friends to a party.
Her family wasnât rich, but her social circle had quite a lot of rich folks, making her celebration party quite lively and high-end.
Looking at how sexy her friend was on the dance floor, Riley thought to herself, is this gal try to reel in a boyfriend? Probably was, since she was at a proper age already, wasnât trying to get married her top priority?
To avoid cutting in to Sarahâs conversation with some handsome men, Riley found a place to sit and sip red wine. She suddenly felt bored and that she didnât enjoy this kind of party at all.
She wanted to wait for a time to slip away, but then her cell rang.
The caller ID said âEuanâ, and Riley felt her heart wrench together so hard that she almost stopped breathing!
She bit her lip, balled her hand into a fist, and took a deep breath, then answered the call.
"Where are you?"
Without even awaiting Riley to calm her breathing, Euan already threw a simple question at her on the other end of the phone, which caused her to panic.
Hearing the noisy background from her end, Euan tightened his eyebrows; just where was this woman?
âI...â
âDonât try to lie, speak the truth. If you lie, you wouldnât be able to afford the consequences.â
Before Riley could even think of an excuse, Euan was already attacking her.
His approach made her unable to come up with anything under pressure.
Riley bit her lip and told him the truth.
She thought Euan would have followed up with something, but all he did was hung up the call.
Staring at her blank cellphone screen, Riley felt a pang in her chest, was that it? This wasnât Euanâs typical style. Well, he had Lydia to worry about now, so why would he bother with her?
As she mulled over these thoughts, Riley emptied the wine in her glass and rubbed her aching knees. A huge crowd gathered on the dance floor, dancing and waving their arms wildly.
...
When he arrived at the YJ Villa, Euan found the place empty; Riley was nowhere to be found.
As he stood in the main hall, Euan could still smell a trace of Rileyâs fragrance. But the second he tried to pinpoint it, it vanished.
Just as he was about to leave, he caught sight of the remote control on the glass table. She had turned on the TV, so she must have seen the news about him and Lydia.
He thought that he would be able to see her at home tonight, but he didnât expect that she still had the mood to would run off and attend a friendâs party.
As he was thinking of this, his cell rang.
His eyes narrowed, it was Lydia calling.
âEuan, did you see the news?â
Lydia thought that Euan would call her as soon as he saw the news, but after waiting for a while, he never did. She couldnât wait any longer, and, against her managerâs wishes, called Euan.
Could it be that he wasnât fazed by the news at all? She could not believe that was the case!
Euan picked up the call with a frown, âSo?â
Lydia sounded as if she was on the brink of tears, âEuan, I didnât think that the paparazzi would be this keen on my pregnancy; I didnât even have the time to tell you yet. Itâs true, Euan, Iâm pregnant with your baby, four weeks now. Are you happy? â
Oh?
"Are you certain?"
Euan threw a rhetorical question as a reply.
Even if Lydia said sheâs pregnant, but as far as Euan recalled, he wasnât involved. Did he forget? Or was someone pulling strings?
Hmph! Pregnant? If someone was trying to play him for a fool, then they are surely playing with fire. Wasnât that person afraid of getting burnt?
Lydia smiled, afraid that he would sense something amiss from her tone, âOf course Iâm sure, the hospital even has the records, Iâm pregnant. Youâre the only man Iâm with; you wouldnât have doubts about me fooling around, would you?â
Lydia was afraid that he would discover the truth, but at this point, she could only go down this path!
Euan crooked his lips and said, âGot it.â
Lydia opened her mouth to say, âEuan, when are you free to come visit me and the baby?â
âIâm busy, call you later.â
Holding the phone, Lydia was filled with hopes, âEuan, I miss you...â
âGot it.â
...
The balcony was filled with various sweets and drinks, but there wasnât many people. The cool breeze in the night blew by, as if to sweep away any thoughts and worries.
Riley inattentively ate a serving of dessert. She couldnât even tell whether it was sweet or bitter in her mouth.
She was a lonely individual feeling alone; inside was a bunch of lonely people gathered to party. So this was it.
She thought that by attending this party full of life, she could hide her loneliness and uneasiness. But the party, even with its grand dance floor, music on full blast, and tons of swaying men and women, was unable to suppress the turmoil inside her.
She missed Euan a lot. Whenever she was by herself, thoughts of him would stifle the air around her, until they took over every part of her body.
But where was he? Home with some woman? Maybe in Lydiaâs arms?
Bzzz bzzz bzzz.
As she was lost in thought, her cell rang again. Riley looked at the caller and frowned. Why was Lydia calling her?
âWhat do you want?â Riley said in a stern tone, without a hint of emotion.
Lydia sat on a luxurious sofa, feeling high and mighty like a winner. She heard the background music from Rileyâs end and sneered, âRiley, all alone, off at some club? If youâre really feeling lonely, there are plenty of young men, you can easily hook up with one to help warm your bed. Besides, your engagement with Euan is off. It must have been tough to always be waiting on your husbandâs return. I can really sympathize with you.â
Her taunts cut through the night and felt as if they pierced directly into Rileyâs heart and skin. She wasnât strong enough to be unfazed by these words. Tears began to swell in her eyes, and a fire seemed to rage within her heart. Riley could no longer tell whether she felt wronged or angry.
âCompared to you, someone whoâs pregnant and isnât even married yet, who can only look at another womanâs name on the marriage certificate.
Hah! You sold your body just to try and keep a man. Now, he barely bothers to care about you. It must feel awful to be a single mother?â
Riley stared at her wine glass, whose reflection seemed to show a glimmer in her eyes. It must be the bright lights, or she might have thought she was crying.
Crying? Was there even anyone worth her crying over?
âOh Riley, donât try and anger me! Hehe, letâs wait and see. Euan will be coming to my place tonight, and every night after that. As for you, just cry by your lonesome self in your home! Oh, just to remind you, hurry up and divorce and get out the George Family. Youâre still young, maybe youâll find another man. In another year or two, when youâre old, it wonât be so easy...â
Beep!
Refusing to continue listening to Lydia speak rubbish, Riley hung up the phone.

The wine was taking effect inside her; Rileyâs sight began to get blurry. Tonight... Every night after...
Damn, it was just one glass of wine; was she getting drunk?
As she rubbed her pulsating temples, Riley grabbed a glass of water and took a huge gulp-
âPfft!â
It wasnât water, but hard liquor!
Riley started to feel the tip of her tongue numbed by the liquor. The liquor which she just drank down then all came back up again, as she spewed it out-
Every drop seemed to hit the man sitting across from her.
