ANATOLY POV   -IN NEW YORK-

I made it.

Finally.

I had been able to avoid and foul that creepy bastard and now I was deciding whether to use my car or my bike.

The boss of our gang was going to be mad if I’d not show up also tonight. I sighed. What a mess. First I started off with few punks, which still followed me and messed around at my whims; right, some weaklings that got beaten more than once from the mighty Sasha and my brother’s friends. Whatever. The gang…I joined it two years ago and there was no turning back and the tattoo on my neck said so. It was with a couple of them that we beat the crap out of that kid and his pathetic friends; right, when I saw him skateboarding all smiling and happy and all looking that disgustingly cute, the impulse to hit him and the buried anger and self loathing emerged and we did what we did.

What a hilarious situation. My brother last year snapped so badly one morning and almost sent me to the hospital and didn’t explain me the reason. Well, guess I realized the reason few weeks ago, when that yummy kid showed his scared eyes in our kitchen. Jasper was his name, right? He had grown up, but still looked the same and his eyes when they saw me. I shook my head…it was just as that bastard of Sasha said: I had sunk to my lowest and dirtiest level; the only thing to do now was to get my diploma and disappear from my family. They didn’t care anyway for me and didn’t matter what Oleg said, I knew he wouldn’t take a bullet for me.

Why am I getting this emotional tonight? This is just plain disgusting.

I did what I did because I wanted to do it, nobody forced me. It was my intentional choice and it helped somehow to ease away the disgust I had for myself; at least now this was a new and different one and it was easier to live with.

Let’s first open the door of the garage and then I’ll just run away with my bike, it’s faster and I’ll so very much enjoy seeing his face once back, discovering I was gone. The door silently went up and I pushed outside the bike, my black Kawasaki Ninja 650R, the helmet hooked at my arm; my leg swung on the other side and I was straddling the bike, about to turn on the engine. My finger flicked the starter and so did my foot, but my black Ninja kept silent.

Damn it. What the hell was wrong now?

I tried again and again and by now I was a stream of swearing and cursing.

Then I felt it and gulped down and fell silent.

“Did you really think you could escape that effortlessly?” It was Oleg’s voice and it came from beside me and his hand was painfully planted on my shoulder.

The creepy shadow here had detached the battery of my bike and without doubt also of my car and every car in there, expect for his, which was hidden the hell knows where.

“Let me go, bastard. I need to see people tonight or thing won’t be that rosy. Got it?” I snarled, trying to shove away his grip. He didn’t say anything, just kept staring down at me as if looking at a rock. His passivity pissed me off every single time.

“Get back inside and do stop this ridiculous game of gangs. I will not repeat it a second time, Anatoly.” Here we go again.

“Why the hell do you care about that? It’s none of your business.” I was getting irritated by every second that ticked away.

“This is a mistake. It was your father’s order, therefore it is my business. Now, get inside.” He ordered and that made it.

No one can just order me around and for sure not this asshole here. I slipped the helmet in my hand and slammed it in his face, just laughing at the idea of breaking his nose; my arm swung and hit with angry force and I viciously laughed. And then…shut up and gulped.

He had stopped the helmet with barely one hand and looked me now tired and his expression kept that granitic and empty mood. His hand grabbed my wrist so fast that didn’t give the time to realize his other hand had seized my jeans’ belt; I found my body flying in the air above him and when it painfully collided with the concrete my mouth gasped for air and freaking pain irradiated in my body.

“You play the criminal game and do not even know how to properly attack someone.” Oleg said pressing me down with one forearm. I coughed and gasped for air; this bastard almost killed me.

“You…cough..cough.. you almost aha..aha..killed me..and you should look after me?” He scoffed mocking me.

“You are pathetic Anatoly and in this I agree with you. You are only good at hitting people smaller than you, but not able to defend yourself from someone bigger, like your former friend Aleksandr Lebedev, is that correct?” That hit an aching nerve in my head.

“What do you know about me, let me go. It hurts, you’re harming me.” He laughed again that humorless and cold laugh and as pathetic as it sounded, it froze the blood in my veins.

“You consider this harming? You know no pain, believe me.” The way his eyes flashed for a moment had me gulp in damn fear. Who the hell was this bastard here?

“And what do you know about that?” He never broke that impassive and intimidating stare of his while speaking.

“I know enough.” He stood up and without compliments he jerked me standing and ordered me to take back the bike. Every part of my body was aching and he just stood there looking while I pushed inside my black Ninja.

I couldn’t stand this one here. I hated him.

“Inside. Now.” I stared madly enraged at his face, but I knew I had nowhere to escape, so I followed him inside and then we stopped at a room in the basement. “Go there and if you try to escape again, you won’t get away with a mere headache.” Was he kidding? Was he about to jail me? To do what?

“What the fu..” His glare froze me on the spot and when he opened the door, I stepped into the room. He flicked on the light and realized it was a bedroom. “Is this your room?”

“Sit there and wait a moment.” Oleg disappeared and I dropped on a chair, cursing when I felt my back hurting like a b!tch. That bastard. I never saw his room and it was just a simple and boring bedroom with the minimum essential; then I saw the weights set, the bench, the barbell, a punching sack and other stuff and saw a metallic cabinet closed with a solid chain and huge safety lock. What was inside there? A set of guns? The idea didn’t surprise me very much. I automatically pulled it and tried to open it, but didn’t work obviously.

“I would advise you not to open it.” His voice stopped me and when I turned he was caring a bottle of water and something else. “Take this.”

He handed me the water and a couple of pills and I studied them suspiciously.

“I said, take this. It is not drug, but you would know that, right?” My eyes snapped at him. How did he know? He kept looking void of any emotion. “Of course I know about that and it is good you decided to stop, because I had no the heart to tell your father and mother about that.”

“What’s this?”

“Painkiller.” He tossed me something else, probably a cream or balm. “And that is for your bruises, given how weak you are.”

“Are you making fun of me, bastard?”

“I am stating the obvious.” Oleg removed his jacket and his shirt and I wondered why the hell he had to always be that dressed up when he would just stay in our house. I cursed myself when I realized my eyes shot at his tattoos and muscles; my head snapped away forcefully and I just chucked the damn pills and water down. “My tattoos have different meanings from yours and that is why your father does not approve of yours.”

Damn it; he had caught me staring. I snorted and tossed the bottle away, then walked to the door, but Oleg stopped me.

“You are staying here, tonight. Half measures do not work with you, as it was the third time I caught you today.”

I widened my eyes in shock and began to curse at this pain in the ass.

“What? Are you insane? No way I am staying here with a bastard like you.”

“You have no saying in the matter.”

I glared at him with all of my rage and threatened him, but Oleg just laughed humorlessly and when I tried something, he pinned me down on the floor again, this time sinking a knee in my back and purposely pressing my forming bruises. I wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction this time of complaining, no way in hell. Oleg let go and commanded me to get up and I painfully got on my feet, cursing from my heart.

“You are enjoying beating the crap out of me, ha?” I spat out, massaging my back.

He sent me such a cold and hard stare that my feet automatically took a couple of step back. Why I had to feel so intimidated in front of him? He wasn’t going to kill me, at least I hoped so.

“You are the only one here taking joy in beating defenseless people and that is vile and dishonorable. As I said, you need to grow up, Anatoly. You will not always have your family looking out for you.”  I snorted at his words. My family looking out for me. Give me a break.

“They don’t give a damn about me, wake up idiot.” Oleg’s eyes twitched like yesterday and I knew I overstepped the limit.

“Keep silent and let me have a break from this ridiculous babysitting.”

And again the conversation was over, no matter what I said, asked and how much I cursed; he shut me up with a stern glare and I dropped on the bed cursing every-damn-one.

JASPER POV   -BACK TO ASPEN-

“Yeah, this way is perfect Jas.” Dima beamed and patted my shoulder and I tried the balance on the board. It was actually easy and in few hours I had become uhm, quite good at snowboarding. “Man, you’re awesome. You really never did it before?”

I nodded and smiled and he poked my dimple, which made me smile wider and then laugh, making me lose my balance and fall on the snow; Dima went to stop me in the falling, but he got caught in the action and we both landed down, laughing and giggling, him completely crushing me flat. Oh boy, he was quite heavy and even with the snow and the freezing air I felt my body going about to evaporate.

“I feel like an idiot; I wanted to help you and here I am, squashing you down.” He pushed himself up and stared at me from his mask-glasses, balancing his weight on his arms at each side of my face. Boy, was I glad these glasses were big.

“You ok, Jas?”

“Uhm, sure, completely ok.”

He kept staring at me without moving and I began to sweat bullets when I heard my heart thundering in my head and throat. Last night kept re-playing on my mind and no matter how hard I tried to push it away or tell myself to stop deluding myself, his words were there with the way his eyes looked at me. People around us didn’t pay attention to what we were doing, because we probably just looked like two friends having fun and what am I saying? We were just two friends having fun. I sighed too loud and his eyes and brows made a comical questioning expression through his thick glasses and it made me smile again.

“Am I too heavy?” He asked.

“Uhm, no...not exactly.” The problem here wasn’t the fact he was heavy, which anyway he was, but uhm well, our bodies were still touching as our legs and my lower self was now having funny thoughts and my guts clenched and I hoped he would soon move from me, because I was deadly afraid of him feeling something.

But he just kept there and actually lowered himself on his elbows and now our glasses and helmets were almost touching. My eyes widened automatically and it took all of my effort to keep my mouth shut and boy, what was he doing? I snap at his mouth and my heart accelerated at the sight of his full and now probably cold lips and everything in my body and mind went erratic and reached thermonuclear temperature. Oh boy…his lips…so close, oh boy…so plump and uhm well…oh boy…I so wanted to touch them. How would they feel? My past kisses weren’t anything special, but how would it feel with Dima? And touching him? How would that feel? His body was just…oh boy…to be touched and enjoyed and … what was I thinking now?

And what am I doing???

No…stop!!

My hand had a mind of its own and went on his neck. We couldn’t feel anything, given how we were dressed up, with winter jackets, gloves and more, but I still shivered and Dima’s mouth this time had a different kind of smile…it wasn’t the usual funny and warm grin, but an amused and oh boy so tempting smirk. I never saw Dima smirking in that way and when he lowered himself of another inch our breaths mingled and he whispered something I couldn’t hear. My heart and blood went insane and all I could think about were his lips. Our helmets touched and we kept staring at each other and then it hit me.

This time I had no doubts.

Uhm, Travis was right…but uhm, oh boy, what to do now?

He tilted his head slightly and I tightened the grip on his neck and …

“Are you guys all right? Is one of you hurt?” Someone stopped beside us and bent down to see if we were ok.

And then I realized what I was about to do and dropped my hand and gasping and stuttering words incoherent. Oh boy, I-I…I was about to kiss him. Was I out of my mind?

Dima shook his head and said we were all right and just said we fell like two idiots. The man then left and Dima pulled himself up on his palms and then again went down, completely laying on me. He groaned and said something in Russian with his mouth on the snow, his head beside me.

“Sorry Jas…I don’t what’s up with me lately…I..” He pushed himself up and sat in front of me.

He removed his boots from the board, stood up and stretched out a hand to help me. He pulled me up without effort. I detached my boots from the snowboard, too, because I needed a moment to regain some control over my overly blushing face and standing strapped on a board didn’t help. He shook again his head and went to scratch his hair, but instead he found his helmet. That made me giggle and he shot me a curios look.

“What’s so funny?”

“Your face now.” I confessed. He thought about that and then grinned in his usual way.

“Your face is pretty fun, too, know that man?” His finger poked my dimples and I began to giggle and laugh, forgetting the past embarrassment for what I was about to do.

I felt his hands on my sides and they started to tickle me and my laughing went more hysterical and his went loud and roaring like a bear and so I went to tickle him as well, but it wasn’t easy and we fell down another time. We rolled a bit in the snow, going on with the tickle battle, chuckling like two silly lunatics and probably having people looking at us. At the moment I didn’t care about it. We stopped when we felt our throats burning from the cold air and too much laughing.

“Man, we are a couple of idiots.” He beamed and poked again my side.

“Stop it…” I giggled and poked his side back, seeing that now it was me being on top of him. What happened before rushed back in my mind and I stammered a couple of words. “Uhm..so-sorry Dima, I-I am..probably h-heav-vy, so-sorry.” I went to stand up, but he grabbed my arm and stopped me.

“You’re not heavy Jas and as weird as it might sound, I enjoy being this close to you.” Oh boy, I think my heart and breathing stopped at once and my eyes popped out.

“Wh-what do you mean?” Jasper, what are you asking??

“Well, I like when we are like this or when you stroke my hair or when we touch and we are close and I feel you..Sorry Jasper, I think I sound creepy right now.”

“You don’t!” I almost shouted and then I shut my mouth. He first just looked at me and then smiled.

“I don’t?”

I sighed and shook my head. I couldn’t resist him and his grin. Oh boy, I was so gone for Dima, but even if he might feel that, I was afraid it was just a phase, maybe his mistaking our friendship and being close for something else and I was deadly afraid of doing something that would make us feel awkward and not anymore so uhm well, so good and relaxed together. What if I kissed him and he would find it strange or even gross? What if I was going to tell him how much I liked him and he didn’t? What would be of our bond and friendship?

Nic said that sometimes we should take a risk and jump, but I wasn’t that kind of person and I wasn’t yet ready to jump…I had no experience or anything and I was afraid of too many things, not even considering my embarrassing shyness.

But maybe…just a little skip would do, right? It didn’t have to be a tumbling run, right? Just skip was fine for now.

“No and uhm…I like this, too, uhm…being close to you is not weird, it’s nice, very nice.” I think my face went probably purple, but the huge sunglasses hid it somehow. Dima grinned so widely that the corners of his mouth reached his ears.

“Really? Man, that’s awesome. So I’m not the only one here feeling strange, right?” Uhm, he felt strange? In what way?

“Strange? How?” I clasped my mouth with my gloved hand and bit my tongue. What was wrong with me? Why when I was with him I couldn’t seem to control myself?

“Oh well…that’s a bit, I mean, quite the thing to explain.” He turned his head on the side and cleared his throat. What was this? Uhm, Dima was embarrassed. That was new, because Dima embarrassed equaled to call Travis shy and naive. I smiled softly and found it extremely cute and realized it was the first time I found him cute.

“Uhm, you wanted to show me some tricks at the pipe, right?” He looked back at me and chuckled, probably happy I didn’t press for more. I was curious to know what he meant, but I knew how it was when feeling uncomfortable and thought it was best to let it go.

I think for today, we had jumped quite a lot.

“Man, that’s right. Let’s go, still have to show my true Jedi skills.”

Boy, he wasn’t kidding when he talked about Jedi skills. I couldn’t join him on the halfpipe, because I still didn’t feel very confident, even if it reminded me very much of skateboarding. The moves and rotations were still slightly different and had to get completely used to the fact the board was attached to my feet.

Dima was absolutely amazing; I stood at the side of the arrival point since it was almost empty and watched him with wide eyes and my mouth catching flies in a complete awe and daze. Why I didn’t bring a camera with me right now? I was going to bring my phone tomorrow, because I had to take picture and make a video of him. He stood at the edge of the entry ramp, shot me probably a wide grin and waved, then slid down the slope with his board, bending on his knees and slightly forward to catch more speed and my mouth shut when he ran up the first part of the ramp, jumping the platform and landing down to catch more speed. His board slithered faster and reached the opposite deck of the ramp and Dima flew high in the bright and sunny sky landing powerfully on the snow, reaching the other side and … rotating in the air one time upside-down.

Everything in me tightened and I gulped down, feeling the same pull and adrenaline I felt when I saw him playing hockey. I was breathing harder and faster, not able to tear my eyes from him, itchy to touch him. Boy, he was beyond words and the confidence and coolness he emanated from that and the easiness in performing such tricks had me struck completely. I..uhm, well…Dima had me a second time, making me like him more and more, making me discover a new side of him. Boy, I was really falling for Dima; it wasn’t anymore a simple crush.

He sped up, slid up the ramp and took a leap in the air, grabbing the snowboard and turning around of 360° vertically and then down bending on his knees, up again flying in the sky from the deck and I gasped when he made the same complete rotation of before, but this time he did it twice and landed after twisting of 180° with power and force, lifting snow from his board. Dima pulled up his mask and I literally jumped on him.

Oh boy..I couldn’t control my reactions when I was with him and this could be a problem.

“Boy Dima, that was incredible, it was amazing…oh boy, I don’t know how to describe it, you’re awesome!!” Good thing he had detached the board, because he didn’t expect my sudden attack and we fell down on the snow. He laughed in that usual full and funny way and sprawled his arms and legs wide apart.

“Thanks man, happy you enjoyed it.” His eyes were so bright and shining at the light of the sun reflecting on the white snow. They looked like aquamarines, but they had a warm light-blue and not icy blue. Everything of Dima was warm.

“Boy, can you do it again tomorrow? I want to make a video.” I grinned at him and poked his side, since I was basically sitting on his laps. Oh boy…I was straddling Dima. I blushed at the thought and looked away. If I was going to move he’d understand my embarrassment.

“Sure Jas and why don’t you join me tomorrow?” I widened my eyes at his question and shook my head.

“Uhm no, I am not that good..that’s still too much for me.”

“Well, maybe the halfpipe is a bit too much right now, but let’s try some freestyle tomorrow, ok? It’s going to be so funny and you’ll like it. We can actually slide on bars just like with the skateboard and in that you’ll be awesome man.”

We moved away from the slope because we couldn’t stand right there in the way and Dima declared he was starving. He went on talking no-stop about tricks and techniques, but I didn’t register everything of it, it was just too much; however I let him explain, just staring at his excited face, grinning and making comical expressions when mimicking some jumps. I liked to listen to him and he never bored me or annoyed me or anything; I just liked it and I would listen to him for hours…for days without interruption.

His parents were sitting outside a café, enjoying the sun and a mug of steaming chocolate and a gigantic slice of cake. We sat with them and the waiter came to take our orders. Dima was indeed famished, given how much he ordered, making his mother giggle and shook her head affectionately.

“Did you have fun, Jasper? Did my son give you good and useful lessons?” Mr. Denisov asked me, placing an arm around his wife’s shoulders.

“Yes, I’m having actually great fun and Dima explained a lot of things and now I can decently move with the board.” Dima snorted and punched my arm playfully.

“Decently, Jas? You’re awesome, just a little more practice and we will be able to do the halfpipe together.”

“Uhm..well, maybe slightly more than a little..”

“Nah, man, trust me.” His arm went around my shoulders and drew me against him, ruffling my hair with the other hand. I didn’t miss Mr. Denisov’ quite surprised expression and the way he looked at us, making me blush tremendously and trying to pull away.

“Hey lazy butt, how was snowboarding?” I thanked God Irina made him turn around and let go of my shoulders, but I chocked for air when she suddenly hugged me strongly. “Jasper, hi. So, did you have fun today? Let’s do something together tonight.”

“Ira, leave him alone. What do you mean doing something together?” Dima eyed her strangely.

“Guys, I’m officially beat.” His other cousin, Francisco, slumped on the other chair beside me and offered a friendly smile. Also his parents joined us.

“We could go out and do something, that’s what I meant. What’s this Dima, you jealous of Jasper? Because you know, he is far too cute and adorable for someone so dense and lazy like you.”

Oh boy, can someone save me, please? Please!!! Someone just save me and hide me on a dark corner or let the snow swallow me.

“Hey, I’m not that lazy and dense, know that?” Dima grunted and rolled his eyes.

“Yo sis, let go of Jasper, you’re chocking him, look at his face.” When she let go of my neck, I exhaled long in relief.

We all had something to eat and then went back home and Mrs. Denisov and her sister cooked an amazing dinner. I offered my help, but they wouldn’t even let me set foot in the kitchen, so I went back to the living room and we watched a movie. After dinner we all went out and must say Aspen was a lovely city; Dima and I took some pictures together, some as well with his cousins, because Irina was another hyper type. I bet she immediately got along with Travis, while probably her blunt comments, especially if directed to my best friend, irritated Alex. Irina actually wanted to go dancing, but we all looked at her as if looking at an alien; all of us were tired and beat from the long day and my legs were quite sore.

“Ira, you are crazy. Fran, are you up for this?” Dima asked his cousin.

“You insane, man? I’m about to fall asleep and tomorrow I want to wake up early and ski all day.”

“Yes darling, we can do it another time, I am sure Jasper will join us again, right?” Uhm, I had no idea what to say to Mrs. Torres.

“You bet auntie; we have to make a halfpipe together.” Dima slipped an arm down to my chest from my shoulder and I madly blushed when his cheek rested right beside mine. I wondered for a moment if he could feel my face burning.

His father and this time also his mother shot a curios look and I shifted my eyes on the ground, finding the snow very interesting.

“Yes, let’s all go home, so we can all sleep well and we won’t wake up at eleven tomorrow morning.” Mr. Denisov slightly smirked at his son and Dima chuckled.

Irina wasn’t tired and we decided to stay up to watch another movie, just keeping the volume down, because their parents went to bed. The four of us just relaxed in the living room, but I felt my eyelids getting heavy and I repressed a yawn. I eyed Dima’ laps and thought about what he said this afternoon and yesterday and about my brother’s words…should I take another small hop? Would he mind that? Oh boy, seriously, why Dima had such an effect on me?

I took a breath, stretched longer on the couch and let my head rest on his legs. I turned and peeked at him and timidly asked if this was ok.

“Uhm…do you mind it? I’m quite sleepy…” I hoped he didn’t hear the shaking of my voice. He shook his head and his lips reached again his ear in a beaming grin.

“Nah, Jas. You know I don’t mind it.” He winked and I smiled back and when I felt his fingers in my hair, I froze, uhm well, most likely melted on the spot and my heart almost jumped out of my mouth. I counted till hundred trying to calm myself, but didn’t work much. Only when my body realized how relaxing and soothing his touch was I finally calmed down.

DMITRI POV

Man, this was exactly like my first dream and I damn knew tonight I was going to have some problems. I had no idea what possessed me in that moment, but my fingers went to his soft and messy hair and enjoyed stroking them. My head leaned back on the couch and for a moment I closed my eyes, trying to regain some control. It was all so incredibly overwhelming that my all body was literally on fire.

Then I had to be a masochist idiot and think about what happened this afternoon. We almost kissed, man. We were so damn close and the more my eyes stared at his soft and pink lips, the more I craved to have them. I almost kissed Jasper today. I swallowed down hard and told myself what a gigantic dofus I had been; I didn’t know how I felt for him yet and why I behaved like that? But, man. He was simply irresistible and the way he touched my neck and pulled me down…err, wait a moment.

Right.

Jas had actually pulled my face closer while I was at that, he didn’t freak out.

I shot my eyes open and shoot, that was right. He hadn’t freaked out or anything and actually told me he felt like me, even though I avoided explaining how my buddy down there is enjoying his touch and … man, he was enjoying it right now. Or when he was straddling me after jumping and making us fall down a second time; that had been hot and I had quite a hard time in every meaning in pretending to act normal. When it was just the two of us Jasper was different, he was more daring and open I’d damned if I didn’t find that sexy and hot.

Oh Lord, I needed to talk to Sasha again and this time he was probably going to murder me, granted his well known patience; but hey, he told me that if I needed him, he’d be there and that’s true. My best buddy would understand my mess and he was going to help me to clear it out, I knew it. As I said, here it was Jasper and not someone else random; I knew I could be a tactless and dense moron and if I were to do something wrong, Travis would slay me without second thoughts. But hey man, I wasn’t going to do anything wrong, ‘cause let’s face it, I liked Jasper very much and deeply cared for him.

But how do you go with another dude? Ok, not just a dude, I knew it, I knew it, so cut me some slack, but the problem still persisted. How should I behave with him? I mean, what should I do after I figure out the mess in my head? Simply ask him out or kiss him out of the blue or tell him I liked him and … man, what?? I groaned silently in my head.

Why they never thought of writing manuals about these matters? Why? Now it would be really useful. I shook my head and chuckled silently at my idiocy; I indeed was a moron. A manual; who needs a manual with Jasper. I should just follow my instinct. My fingers kept running softly on his hair and all of my senses forgot the movie and concentrated on him.

Right, tonight I was going to have some damn problem.

Author's chit-chat:

Ok, I'd like to ask to all of you to go through my "Dedicated to me" list and if you can, check out and read the stories there, thanks!! I received sometimes messages about reading stories, but I don't have much time at the moment, so I'll try my best and maybe give some shouts out about them :-)

Then... what do you think will happen back in New York? How will things go between Jas and Dima? You think Jasper should take more hops? Or Dima decide asap?

Let's see what will happen...hehehehe))) Till next time!
