Chapter 867
When His Eyes Opened
Avery could not slip away and had no choice but to let Mike return to Aryadelle with the twins first.
Adrianâs family was not happy with his post-surgery condition, but at least they did not give Avery a
hard time about it.
Both parties signed an agreement before the surgery. Avery would treat Adrianâs illness, but she could
not guarantee that the surgery would be a complete success.
Three days after the surgery, Averyâs phone rang at noon. Once she heard the phone ringing, she
quickly wrapped up changing Robertâs diaper, then picked up her phone and answered the call.
âAdrianâs awake, Doctor Tate. He can hear us this time and heâs responding.â Adrianâs father, Nathan,
was the one on the other line. Avery suddenly felt relieved, âIâll head over to the hospital right away.â
She hung up the phone, then handed the baby to Mrs. Cooper. Once she arrived at the hospital, she
hurried over to the patientâs room. âHe went back to sleep again, Doctor Tate,â Nathan said in confusion
with furrowed brows.
â Is he still weak from the surgery? He isnât just going to be unconscious this whole time, is he? If thatâs
the case, then he was better off before the surgery!â
âYouâve never had major surgery before, have you? The week after a major surgery is when the patient
is at their weakest,â Avery said sternly.
âI see. Donât get mad, Doctor Tate. Iâm not doubting you. I just feel like heâs still kind of an idiot.â Nathan
rubs his hands together. He was clearly unhappy with the post-op results.
Averyâs heart tightened in her chest.
âPlease step outside for a moment. Letâs have a private chat.â
Once the two of them stepped out of the room, Avery said, âMy last patient had the same illness as
Adrian. She was only able to recover to the point of being able to care for herself again until after the
second surgery. It also did not happen right away. She slowly recovered with the patience, love and
care from her family members. I know youâre worried about Adrian, but can you not treat him like an
idiot? I can tell you for certain that itâs practically impossible that he will turn back into an ordinary
person.
A wave of misery flashed across Nathanâs eyes.
âI thought you really were a miracle worker! Didnât your last patient pretty much turn into an ordinary
person after surgery?â
âIâm not a miracle worker. Whoever told you that my last patient was pretty much normal after surgery,
you can take that up with them.â
When Avery thought of Shea, she could not help from being emotional.
âWhy are you being so emotional? Itâs not like Iâm asking you for compensation.â Nathan gazed at
Avery with a confused expression on his face.
âWhy do you look like youâre about to cry? Iâm not shouting at you or hitting you. How can you be a
doctor with this level of mental capacity?â When a nurse walked by and overheard their conversation,
she immediately walked over and said, âHow could you speak to Doctor Tate that way, Sir? Do you
know how difficult the surgery that she did was? Besides, your sonâs surgery was rather successful. He
just woke up, a surgery is considered a success when a patient wakes up and their life is not in
danger.â Avery took a deep breath, quickly composed herself, then headed back into the patientâs
room.
She had yet to see what Adrian looked like when he was conscious, so whatever Nathan said should
not affect her mood. When she walked into the room and saw Adrianâs pale complexion, her emotions
wavered.
The reason why her eyes reddened earlier had nothing to do with the surgery, but that she actually
heard Elliotâs voice in Nathan. In her mind, Elliot and the middle-aged man in front of her were
gradually overlapping and turning into the same person. She imagined that Elliot was the one
chastising her, which was why she lost control of her emotions for a moment.
Soon after, the nurse walked into the room and handed Avery a glass of water. âDonât take Mr. Whiteâs
words to heart, Doctor Tate. He doesnât really care about his son at all.
I should probably say that nobody in that family cares about Adrian. The nurses are the one who take
care of him every day. We were the ones who called them over when Adrian woke up.â The nurseâs
words made Averyâs heart sink. Nathan had continuously told her that he loved this son more than
anything. However, it was clear from his actions today that everything he said before was a lie!
