Chapter 69
When His Eyes Opened
Chapter 69
âIf you ever gamble again, Iâll cut off both of your arms myself!â Henry snapped through gritted teeth.
âWhy are you snapping at him? He just woke up! How could it be possible for him to lose all of that
money by himself? Iâm sure it was that brat, Cassandra Tate!â Olivia cried, then walked out of the room
and called Cassandra over.
Cassandra walked into the room, took one look at Cole on the hospital bed, and hung her head in guilt.
âMom⦠Why are you blaming Cassandra? Someone deliberately set me up last night, or I wouldnât
have lost that much money!â
Coleâs voice was weak, but he was more lucid now.
âIt was Uncle Elliot⦠Nobody else could have done this! He found out that I used to date Avery Tate
and hates me to death now!â
âI know it was your uncle! He doesnât care about you or your father!â Olivia cried hysterically. âThereâs
something wrong with him. Heâs not normal. We shouldnât provoke him!â
Henry shoved his wife aside and yelled, âWhat are you saying in front of an outsider?! Elliot and I donât
get along because of our huge age gap! If your son had a backbone, Elliot wouldnât be able to squash
him like a bug! Take a look in the mirror and figure it out for yourself! Just looking at the two of you is
giving me a headache!â
He then turned and stormed out of the room.
Olivia burst into tears.
Cole felt like his head was about to explode.
âDonât cry, Mom! Itâs all my fault. Iâm a closet! Why did you save me? You should have just let me die!â
âElliot! Donât be like that⦠You might not be as business-minded as your uncle, but youâre way better
than him in my eyes!â Cassandra said as she held Coleâs arm. âFocus on recovering, for now, then we
will come up with a way to take our revenge on him! Once heâs dead, your father wonât compare you to
him again!â
Cole suddenly calmed down.
Oliviaâs wailing also came to a halt.
âCole, youâve seen Averyâs true colors now, right? Sheâs on your uncleâs side now, so you should let her
go completely! We should get rid of both of them! Once theyâre dead, your uncleâs fortune will be ours.â
Cassandra was revealing her ambitious character.
Olivia walked over and stared coldly at her, then said, âWhat do you bring to the table? I heard your
mother took a fortune from the Tate family. Why didnât she help out with the loan sharks last night?!â
Cassandra pouted and said, âItâs true that my mom is wealthy, but sheâs opening a new company
outside o f the country right now. By the time the business flourishes, our net worth might just surpass
Elliot Fosterâs! The market overseas is much more promising than it is hereâ¦â
âDonât give me that bullsh*t! The way you two were gambling last night, you would have gone through
any amount of money!â Olivia snapped.
âWe wonât do it again! Really! I swear!â Cassandra said, raising her hands in defeat as her eyes filled
with tears. âWe were just curious and decided to try it out. It wonât happen again!â
âCole is our familyâs last hope because Elliot wonât have children,â said Olivia.
âWhy is that? Is there something wrong with him?â Cassandra asked curiously.
âIâm not telling you anything! Youâre not even my daughter-in-law yet,â Olivia said coldly. âIâll only forgive
you if youâre able to help Cole from now on.â
âIâll do whatever it takes,â Cassandra said confidently. âJust you wait. Iâll show you what Iâm made of.â
That evening, Chelsea was sitting at a high-end restaurant with a glass of red wine in her hand.
She had no appetite, and her brows furrowed as she said, âHave you lost your mind, Charlie? Are you
trying to break my heart by handing over that much money to Avery Tate? If you have too much money,
then how about giving it all to me?â
Charlie shook his head and said, âI can give you however much you want, Chelsea, but youâve
misunderstood me. Does money have anything to do with how Elliot Foster hurt you? He messed with
your feelings, so Iâm just giving him a taste of his own poison.â
âHa⦠You want to try your luck with Avery Tate? Do you really think Elliot would let you get away with
that? He loves her.â
The more Chelsea thought about it, the more insane the whole thing sounded.
âDonât get yourself mixed up in all of this, Charlie. Itâll be hard on me if you become enemies with Elliot.â
âI never got along with him anyway,â Charlie said nonchalantly. âI decided to invest in Tate Industries
because theyâre not as bad as people think. Once I get my hands on it, I can turn the whole company
around.â
Chelsea glared at her brother and said, âAvery Tate is my arch-nemesis. Are you trying to piss me off
by making money for her?â
âLook on the bright side. Donât you think she might just fall in love with me if I help her like this?â
âWhat if she doesnât? Donât get me wrong. Youâre an outstanding man, but I still think Elliot is more
attractive,â Chelsea said as admiration washed across her face. âHis assertiveness, his indifference, his
self-control-.â
âDo you know how his father died?â Charlie scoffed. He swirled the wine in his glass, then said, âElliot
killed him.â
