Chapter 37
HOMOPHOBIC (JENLISA)
Lisa's POV
"You're lucky you just got a mild one." The school nurse said when she was done putting a cold cast on my right ankle.
"Then how long will it take before it will fully heal?" Nayeon asked.
"A week or two maybe." The nurse replied before leaving.
I sighed and my shoulders dropped in defeat. I was looking at my casketed right ankle with a frown on my face. The competition will be held next week and just by thinking that I won't be able to dance makes me disappointed.
"You're disappointed, aren't you?" Nayeon asked. I faced her and a pout appeared on my face.
"Who wouldn't? I badly want to dance." I said. I gripped my hair with both of my hands.
"Ugh. This is so frustrating." I added and flopped myself back on the bed. I heard Nayeon giggled but I was too caught up by my frustration to pay attention to her.
I tilted my head sideways, causing me to face the door. Then the incident a while ago popped up right into my mind. I saw how Jennie run towards me with full of concerned written in her eyes. I thought she despise me? Then why the hell did she acted like that? Must be out of reflex?
"Nope. That's clearly impossible." I whispered to myself.
But then, the image of Jennie reaching out her hand to help me appeared on my mind. I got a chance to take a look at her brown orbs and those cat-eyes of her seems to tell that she's really sincere about helping me. But if Jennie really is, then why are she's not coming here yet?
Honestly, I've been waiting for her to visit me. I always took glances at the door, hoping that kitten would show up. But the classes will end up soon, and there's still no kitten.
"You're waiting for her?" Nayeon suddenly spoke which made me quickly sat up and face her. I blinked for few times, trying to absorb what she said.
"W-what?" I said. I bit my lip when I realize that I stutter and look at her apologetically. I heard a faint chuckle coming from which made me furrowed my eyebrows.
"Jennie. You're waiting for her." She said. I looked down, trying to avoid her eyes. I knew I should be focusing on her. I can feel that we made a progress on whatever is going on between us but seeing Jennie's reaction earlier made me suddenly confused.
"Why didn't you take her hand instead?" Nayeon asked.
"I-I don't know." I softly muttered.
The silence that filled the space between us gave me a chance to think clearly. I gulped for a few times as I try to prepare myself.
"Nayeon." I started. She just hummed in response.
"I-I think we should stop this." I said.
I was hoping for a slap or whatever needs to be done when a girl hear those things. I clutched my eyes closed and bit my lip tightly.
"Why are you keeping your eyes close?" She said.
"I thought you're going to slap me." I said looking at her with one eye open.
"Why would I when I've been thinking the same thing?" Nayeon smiled at me which made me stare at her blankly and blinked out of confusion.
"What?"
"I can see that you're heart still beats for Jennie. I have no match for that. I can't force you to like me."
"I'm sorry."
"No, you don't need to. I was the one who insisted in this ridiculous set up. I even stole a kiss from you. And besides, my feeling for you aren't that deep. So, no worries Lisa." She said and smiled at me genuinely.
"That means, we can still be friends right? Nothing will change?" I asked cautiously. Nayeon nodded which made me smile widely.
"Can I have a hug?" I spread out my arms and waiting for her response. I saw how she tilted her head a little bit out of confusion. She's really cute. If I met Nayeon earlier that Jennie, I think I would fall for her.
"You've been my comfort zone lately. Why? Can't I have a hug from my friend?" I pouted.
Nayeon chuckled loudly which made me do the same way. Her laugh was contagious indeed. Nayeon throw herself into me and hug me tightly. I sighed in relief when I finally felt her warmth.
"Lisa!"
A scream, together with rushing footsteps was heard at the hallway. Judging by the tone and pitch of that voice, I clearly know who the owner is. The door slammed opened which made Nayeon flinch into my arms.
"Are you- oh."
"Yah! Why did-oh"
Both RosÑ and Jisoo was standing at the doorway with mouth agape and eyes stuck on us. Their reactions made me and Nayeon to stare at each other and giggled as she pull away from my hug.
"RosÑ come on. They might not yet done making out. We should leave." Jisoo whispered to the red-haired girl.
I took a pillow and throw at her which landed right on her face. Jisoo faced me wearing those glary eyes of hers and a smug look on her face.
"We're not making out stupid." I said. RosÑ walked towards me which was followed by Jisoo. Nayeon bid us goodbye then which made the two confused.
"Why is she leaving?" Jisoo asked.
"Maybe she has something to do." I replied. RosÑ sat at the edge of the bed and look at me worriedly.
"Are you okay? What happened?" She said, eyeing the cast on my ankle.
"I'm okay. It was all an accident. No one noticed that the chair was broken, I'm still in luck I didn't fall that high." I said.
"Does this hurt?" Jisoo said before giving my injured ankle a quick hit. I screamed in pain when I felt Jisoo's hand landed straight through the most injured part.
"Yes it does." Jisoo said and burst out in laughter.
"Kim Jisoo!" RosÑ yelled which made the devil stopped and zipped her mouth. I smirk at her knowing that this chipmunk is on my side. Jisoo just rolled her eyes and huffed in annoyance before turning her back on us.
"How long will this last?" RosÑ asked.
"A week or two. That's what the nurse said."
"But the competition will be held next week!" Jisoo faced us. Her eyes was showing a mixed of worriedness and shock.
"Then there would be no Lisa next week." I said and smiled at them weakly.
"No performance from our ace? Damn. Then there would be no reason for me to watch." Jisoo said.
"Are you okay with that?" RosÑ asked.
"There's nothing that I can do as of now chipmunk."
We stayed at the clinic for a few more minutes until the last bell rang. RosÑ put my arm around her shoulder while her right hand is supporting my waist. I told her that I can walk by myself but when she let me go, I realized that walking with her is much easier. I can't land my right foot fully without experiencing pain.
Jisoo on the other hand was holding my things. Even though this chicken has been teasing me a lot, I can see how worried she is. I'm lucky to have them as my friend indeed.
When we've reached the gate of the campus, I saw Jennie walking hand in hand with Hanbin. She must felt that someone was staring at her because she swiftly turn around and face our direction. Jennie stared at us for a few moments before bowing her head slightly and continued their way.
"I heard Jennie got angry at Hanbin earlier." Jisoo said which earned my attention.
"What? Why?"
"Well, she said that it was Hanbin's job as a captain to check the condition of the equipment at the studio. Sounds like she's blaming Hanbin for your accident." She said.
"So she is really worried." I muttered.
"What do you mean Lisa?" RosÑ asked.
"When I fell down, I saw Jennie rushing towards me. I thought she hated me so much so I was surprised when Jennie offered a help." I explained.
"If Jennie offered to help you, then why are you with Nayeon when we barged in?" RosÑ asked.
"Both of them offered at the same time-"
"And you chose Nayeon over Jennie? Whoa. That's embarrassing for Jennie's part." Jisoo interrupted.
"I know. But what really bothers me is why Jennie acted like that. She cut me out as I remember."
"Maybe she was starting to miss her best friend and regret everything." RosÑ said.
Is Jennie really missing me?
--
The competition is only three days away and everyone seems to be busy. RosÑ has been by my side ever since I got this injury. I also told her about my decision on stopping whatever was going with me and Nayeon and as expected, she was proud on what I did.
But today was clearly different.
I'm alone.
Neither RosÑ nor Jisoo is here. Both of them are at the student council and they told me that they will have a meeting and some stuffs to finish. I was left with no other choice but to wait since RosÑ was not allowing me to go home or roam around by myself.
My ankle will be fully healed by the end of this week but I can't still put a lot of pressure that's why I've been walking cautiously. I'm afraid that it might get worse when I make even just a one wrong step.
"Need help?"
I slowly turned around and my eyes brightened when I saw Nayeon smiling at me. I nodded vigorously which made her let out a soft giggle.
"Where are you going?" She asked as she put her arm around my waist for support.
"To the garden. I'll be waiting for RosÑ and Jisoo to finish up."
"Oh, perks of having friends from the student council."
"Yeah right."
We took a stopover at the dance studio. I watched the whole crew perform for a while. I already announced to them that I won't be able to join them. Of course, groans of disappointment was what I heard from them.
"This sucks. I should be dancing with them." I whispered.
Nayeon left me at the garden since she still has to do something. At first, she was hesitant to leave me but after a few more convincing, I already made her agreed. The rustling of the leaves was so relaxing for my ears that even made me sleepy. Well, I guess a nap won't be bad. RosÑ will call me anyways once they're done.
I was having a nice dream when I felt someone poking my cheeks. I already knew that it was that chipmunk. She loves poking my cheeks even though hers was bigger than mine. I furrowed my eyebrows and quickly took her hand. I heard a gasped coming from her which made me internally giggle.
"I'm already awake chipmunk. Stop poking." I said still having my eyes closed.
I didn't heard any reply from hear which made me confuse. Usually she would tell me by now to get up so that we can go home already and eat something. I also noticed that her hand was somewhat smaller.
"You're R- RosÑ right?" I said.
"No." She answered which made me shot my eyes wide open and look at the owner of the hand that I was holding.
"I'm sorry. I thought you're her." I said and quickly let go of her hand.
Damn, what is Jennie Kim doing here? Being alone with her makes me feel suffocated. I saw that she was about to open her mouth and say something. Luckily, my phone rang. RosÑ was calling, this chipmunk was indeed my savior.
"Hey. Where are you?" I said when I answered my phone.
"I'm already on my way home. I saw Jennie's with you. Good luck Lisa!" RosÑ said and ended the call, not giving me a chance to complain. Okay, I took what I said. She's not my savior.
I quickly took my things and walk away. I can feel the pain on my ankle as I tried to fasten my pace. I don't want to be with her, not now. Not yet. Not until I fully forget what I feel for her.
"Fuck you Park Chaeyoung." I muttered to myself. I was clearly having a hard time walking. Now, I'm regretting that I sent Nayeon away. If I knew that this would happened, I wouldn't sent her away.
I was busy cursing RosÑ at my mind when I felt somebody grabbed my left arm. I can feel my heart beats quickly as I felt the warmth that I was longing for. This stupid heart of mine.
"You don't have to. I can manage." I internally praise myself for not stuttering. But when I felt her right hand gripping into my waist, made my heart to almost popped out of its rib cage.
"Just shut up and walk." Jennie instructed.
I can't see her face clearly because some strands of her hair was covering it. I miss being close with this kitten. That smell of strawberry coming from her made me feel intoxicated. I feel dizzy as I inhale her scent which made held her hand that's grabbing my waist. I can feel her flinch at my sudden action. I quickly faced her, afraid that what I did was something that would made her hate me even more. But what I saw was definitely the opposite.
She's not directly looking at me. But I'm pretty sure I saw her lips curled up.
Jennie was smiling. Or was it just my illusion?
