Chapter 29
HOMOPHOBIC (JENLISA)
Third Person's POV
"And where have you been?"
The old man asked the two girls whose giggles suddenly forfeited. The old man's gaze diverted towards the hands of the both ladies. Judging by those bags that they're holding, seems like Jennie and Lisa has gone shopping again which made the eyes of the old man narrowed.
Lisa gulped due to the nervousness that she feels. She didn't know why her grandfather was acting that way. Jennie and her has been constantly going out after Christmas Eve and this is the first time that her grandfather questioned them.
"Lisa's just showing me how great Thailand is." Jennie said confidently.
Lisa agreed but she can't help to stutter which made the old man in front of them to chuckle. Lisa and Jennie look at each other with eyes filled with confusion.
"I'm just messing with you. What's with the face Lisa? You seems so scared." Her grandfather asked with a teasing smirk formed on his lips.
"I thought you're mad at me." Lisa said. This time, it's her turn to narrow her eyes to the old man.
"I would be if you won't let Jennie rest. It's New Year's Eve later and we're going somewhere to celebrate it."
Lisa just shrugged it off and led Jennie upstairs. She don't care where they might be going later because she was sure that it would be one of those parties that some businessman would attend. Lisa hates those kind of parties a lot. The fact that it's rare to see some people at her age there, bores her a lot.
"Where are we going later?" Jennie asked.
Lisa opened the door of her room first before answering and drop the bags to the floor and flopped herself to her bed.
"Yah! My ice cream was there!" Jennie screamed and rushed towards where the bags are. Lisa chuckled when she saw how Jennie cared for her precious ice cream but she suddenly stopped herself when Jennie look at her with deadly eyes.
The feline started rummaging the bags looking for her ice cream. When she finally found it, Jennie quickly cooed and checked if her ice cream was in good condition. That sight made Lisa's heart melt and a smile was slowly forming in her lips. She's always fond of this side of Jennie.
"You still have the guts to smile after what you did." Jennie said and rolled her eyes. Lisa giggled and patted the empty side of her bed, asking Jennie to sit beside her.
Jennie pushed herself up from the floor and went towards the empty space beside Lisa. The blondie rested her head to the feline's shoulder, she's tired of all the walking that they did earlier.
"You still haven't answered my question Lili." Jennie said. Lisa glanced at her a bit and saw that she's already eating the ice cream that she's holding. Lisa let out a soft giggle and rested her head back towards Jennie's shoulder.
"I think we're going to a party later." Lisa said which made Jennie yelped in excitement that forced the blonde to move her head away.
"A party?" Jennie asked excitedly.
"Yeah. But it's not like what you think. That party is full of guys wearing suits. And I swear, that's very boring." Lisa replied lazily.
"You don't want to go?"
"As if I could. You're coming with me anyway, so I think I can stand the party. Now, can you please let me rest for a bit?" Lisa said and rested her head back to Jennie's shoulder.
"Tired?" Jennie asked. Lisa just hummed and close her eyes.
But hearing how her best friend enjoys devouring her ice cream, she knew that she can't rest at this state. Lisa smiled widely, still keeping her eyes close while listening on Jennie's munching.
"How can I rest if you keep on eating like that?" Lisa said still keeping her eyes closed. Jennie stop from munching and laugh awkwardly.
Lisa lifted up her head and look at the latter. Her eyes widened and heat start rushing towards her cheeks as she saw a piece of ice cream left on Jennie's lips. Lisa can't take her eyes away from the feline's lips which seems so inviting. She gathered all her strength to fight the urge of diving and tasting those.
"What?" Jennie asked that made Lisa back into her senses. She pointed to her lips and Jennie immediately wiped it off.
A sigh of relief was heard from the blonde before standing up and walking a few steps away from the feline. She turned on the television, trying to distract herself from the ungrateful thoughts that running in her mind.
"Why did you turn that on? I thought you want to rest?" Jennie asked her best friend who is now sitting few inches away from her.
"How can I rest if you keep making that noise? What do you want to watch?" Lisa asked while trying her best to focus her full attention to the television.
"Disney!" Jennie happily exclaimed which made the blonde girl giggle softly. Lisa played one of Jennie's favorite Disney movie which is Tangled.
Jennie cheered when she saw what Lisa picked. She slowly scoot closer towards the blond girl which made Lisa's body stiffened. Jennie slowly lean her head towards Lisa's shoulder which made the latter more stiff. Her palms are getting sweaty, after that ice cream incident, she can't help but to feel nervous whenever she's getting this close to her.
The movie was on its climax when Lisa hear soft snores. She also felt an added weight right on her shoulder and when she looked at it, she saw that Jennie has already fell asleep. Her hands are still holding the bucket of ice cream which any minute now will fell.
Lisa carefully removed the bucket and put it at the table beside her. A soft groan was heard from Jennie and she unintentionally wrapped her arms on Lisa which made the girl flinched a little. Even though this is not the first time that Jennie did this but it still gave Lisa chills.
--
A knock was heard on Lisa's door which made the both of them woke up against their will. Jennie patted Lisa, asking her to open the door. Lisa groaned and rub her eyes.
"Did I fell asleep too?" Lisa whispered to herself. Another knock was heard from her door which made her got up from the bed.
One of their maids was standing right in front of her bedroom door. She tells Lisa that they already need to prepare for the party which almost slipped at Lisa's mind. She went back inside and woke up Jennie who is quietly sleeping on her bed. She softly patted Jennie's arm resulting for the feline to groan annoyingly that made Lisa chuckle.
"Nini. You need to wake up. We have a party to go remember?" Lisa said.
"Yeah right." Jennie replied groggily and sat up in bed.
Jennie walked towards her room with eyes half-closed. She's still sleepy but she knew that she can't miss the party. She can't miss the New Year's Eve with her best friend.
When Jennie has already left the room, Lisa quickly took a shower. It will take forever again for her to choose what to wear. While she's blowing her hair dry, she texted her grandfather, asking for help on what type of clothes would she wear.
"Wear anything casual." Lisa read the reply of her grandfather. She walk towards her closet and started scanning her clothes. Her eyes fixed on a black dress with stars on it.
"Maybe this would do." Lisa muttered to herself and picked that dress.
Lisa decided to put on some light make-up and went outside of her bedroom. Jennie opens the door of her bedroom same time as Lisa do which made the blonde girl stunned in her position. Jennie in a floral dress is enough for Lisa's heart to start beating abnormally. Jennie was shocked as well when she saw her best friend. This is the first time that she saw Lisa wore a dress.
"Wow. You look good in that dress." Jennie complimented Lisa which made the cheeks of the latter turn into pink.
"S-so are y-you Nini." Lisa said, she hung her head slightly low, avoiding the gaze of the feline. Jennie grabbed Lisa's wrists and led their way downstairs were their driver was already waiting.
--
Jennie started to feel nervous when she saw how many people gathered to enjoy the party. Lisa saw how her best friend's hand trembled so she quickly intertwine her fingers to the feline's. Jennie looked up and saw Lisa smiling genuinely to her. That lessen the nervousness that she's feeling.
"Why are you being so nervous?" Lisa whispered as they walked towards the entrance of the venue.
"I'm not used on rich people's parties." Jennie said.
"Then there's nothing to worry about. Rich people's party are pretty boring." Lisa said which made the girl chuckled. She even hit Lisa's arm playfully.
When they finally reached the peak of the building, Jennie's eyes widened in amusement. The venue was located at the rooftop of a tall building where you can see the whole Bangkok. It was a perfect place to watch the fireworks later.
A waiter holding a tray of champagne was approaching their way. Lisa took two glasses. One for her and the other for Jennie. They raise their glasses together making a clinking sound before taking a drink. Lisa was about to show Jennie the whole place when she heard her mother was calling them.
A bunch of man and woman wearing elegant suits and dresses circle upon them as they approached Lisa's mother location. They were the friends of Lisa's parents and apparently their business partners as well. Jennie was also introduced to them by Lisa's mother and she can't stop blushing from the compliments that they're giving.
Lisa's vision starting to get blurry and so as Jennie. The glasses of champagne and wine that they had are starting to show some effect but it didn't stop them from having fun. They walk away from the crowd and decided to have their own world since they can't follow what the elders are talking about.
A voice of a man interrupted the sweet moment that Jennie and Lisa have. Seeing the face of the man, Jennie gritted her teeth. It was the same guy that they met at the aquarium. Jennie wondered what he's doing here and why would he even ruined their precious moment.
"Bambam! You're here!" Lisa said excitedly and threw herself towards the guy for a hug. Jennie scoffed which didn't escape Bambam's ears. He look at her with furrowed eyebrows.
"Are you already drunk Lali?" Bambam said.
"No. Just have same few glasses. But I can still manage." Lisa said and let go of the hug. Jennie took another sip from the glass that she's holding. She's feeling left out again and was about to walk away when Bambam spoke.
"Who are you with?" Bambam said eyeing the girl beside Lisa.
"Oh, Bambam meet Jennie." Lisa casually said.
"Oh. So you're that girl." Bambam blurted which made Lisa's eyes widened and engulfed in fear. Fear that her friend might expose her tonight.
"You know me?" Jennie coldly said.
"You're with Lisa at the aquarium right? And she told me a lot about you when we met the other day. Nice meeting you." Bambam said making Lisa let out a sigh of relief.
"So he's the friend that Lisa met." Jennie thought to herself.
"You too." Jennie said shortly.
"Did Lisa told you that we're childhood friends?" Bambam suddenly blurted and pinched Lisa's cheeks.
"What are you doing? Stop." Lisa said softly and widened her eyes towards the guy but Bambam chose to ignore it and grinned widely before pinching her nose.
Jennie was cringing at the sight in front of her. She can't explain why she's being annoyed to this guy. Since she can't take the view in front of her anymore. She decided to walk away, telling that she would go to the bathroom.
"She didn't even accompany me. Does it look like I fucking knew this place?" Jennie muttered to herself angrily when Lisa let her go by herself. Jennie just decided to explore the place on her own.
Lisa forcefully pushed Bambam away from her making the guy burst out in laughter. The blonde kicked her childhood friend on the shin which replaced his laughter with agony.
"What the hell Lali?" Bambam said.
"That's what you get for making something stupid. Why did you even do that?"
"Can't you see the look on her face? She was clearly jealous!"
"Stop making my hopes high."
"Ugh. Whatever. But remember this, eyes can't lie." Bambam said and gave Lisa a wink which made her roll her eyes.
"I'm going to find Jennie." Lisa said and emptied her glass before leaving.
Lisa went to the bathroom to search for Jennie but she's not there. Lisa went back to the roof top, searching every corner to find Jennie. Minutes of finding, she finally saw the feline, standing right at the corner. Jennie was smiling as she enjoy the breeze hitting her face and the view of the whole city.
"Hey." Lisa said when she approached the feline. Jennie looked at her and smiled.
"Hi. Where's your friend?" She asked.
"I left him. You didn't came back, I was worried."
"Yeah. I was lost. You didn't even accompany me." Jennie said and pouted. Lisa pinch her cheeks and muttered an apology. Jennie swiftly remove Lisa's hand and went back on enjoying the view.
"I never thought that Bangkok would be this beautiful up here." Jennie said.
"Indeed." Lisa agreed.
Lisa divert her attention towards the feline who is wearing her gummy smile. She want to tell her that she more beautiful than the view in front of them and she won't get tired of looking at her. Jennie suddenly face her and caught her staring.
"Why? What's wrong? Is there something at my face?" Jennie said.
"No. I was just admiring you beauty." Lisa was surprised on what she said but it's already too late to take it back.
"If you were a guy, I would be literally head over heels on you right now." Jennie said which made Lisa's mood suddenly went down. She diverted her attention towards the sky, trying to hide her true feelings. And all of a sudden, Lisa remembered something and started to search her purse. When she finally found what she's looking for, she went behind Jennie and wear the necklace that she bought.
"What are you doing?" Jennie was startled when she felt Lisa's arms. Lisa didn't talk until she was sure that she already finished putting the necklace. Jennie turned around and faced Lisa which surprised the latter.
"What's this Lisa?" Jennie asked.
"A gift. Your birthday is coming right? And I want to give it to you in advance."
"But why the pendant is L?"
"L stands for Lisa. Means that, even if I'm not with you physically, that necklace would make you remember me."
"Thank you Lili." Jennie said and smiled sweet. Her heart flutter a bit when she heard those sweet words coming from her best friend.
Lisa smile back and stare at the gorgeous lady in front of her admiring the necklace that she gave. When Jennie lifted her head, their eyes locked into each other. Lisa's smile slowly disappear as she was having a staring contest with Jennie. Their faces went closer and closer until it was only inches apart. Lisa feel Jennie's hot breath which is driving slowly driving her crazy. Lisa's eyes flicker back and forth from Jennie's eyes and lips. The urge to claim those luscious lips is getting stronger every second.
Lisa breathed heavily as she leaned closer, closing the gap between them. Their nose touches but there's no sigh of Jennie complaining. Lisa thinks that the alcohol gave her the courage to do this kind of bold move but her mind is still having thoughts on what would be the consequences when she continue.
"Fuck it." Lisa thought to herself.
She gathered all her courage and closed her eyes and finally, claim the lips that she's been dying to taste. The fireworks display suddenly started, as if it was really planned. Lisa tried to move her lips and was surprised when Jennie was responding to her kisses. She let held the feline's waist, pushing their body closer. Lisa don't want to have her hopes high but she can't help if Jennie continue to respond.
The fireworks display was already done. Jennie suddenly opened her eyes and push Lisa away, breaking the sweet kiss that they have. Jennie stare at her best friend in wide eyes, she can't believe that she do the least thing that she wanted to do.
Lisa was about to talk but Jennie suddenly walked away leaving her dumbfounded. The blonde girl smiled to herself bittery. She knew from the very start that this was going to happened but still, she doesn't stopped herself.
"If I was... If I was just a guy." Lisa chuckled dryly, thinking what would happened now between her and Jennie.
"Lisa? Dear?" Lisa turned around and saw her mom.
"Yes mom?"
"I saw Jennie and she told me that she's not feeling well. You too can go home already. I think she need some rest." Her mom suggested. Lisa wanted to burst out crying into her mom's arms but she knew that she just can't.
"Yeah. I think I'm already tipsy too. Enjoy the rest of the night mom." Lisa said and plant a kiss on her mom's cheeks before leaving.
--
The ride on their way home was very silent. Lisa and Jennie were sitting at the other end of the car. The silence between them was deafening and it made Lisa very anxious. She diverted her attention to her best friend but her eyes we're just fixed at the window.
When they arrived home, Jennie quickly went off the car and hurriedly went inside. That sight breaks Lisa's heart. Jennie was already avoiding her and she haven't confessed her feelings yet.
"Nini-"
"Goodnight Lisa." Jennie said without looking at the blonde and went inside her room.
"G-goodnight." Lisa muttered softly.
The kiss was still haunting Lisa's mind that made her difficult to get some sleep. She keeps on cursing herself. Lisa went outside and was about to knock at Jennie's room when she heard her voice. She wants to apologize to her but seems like the feline was talking to someone.
"I miss you too Hanbin. Yeah. I can't wait to see you. We'll be heading back tomorrow, we can finally have a date." Jennie said. Her voice sound excited. Lisa slowly put her hand down and was just standing right in front of Jennie's door. Her feet seems to be stuck there.
"I love you."
Hearing those three words was enough to send Lisa's heart into pieces. And it was enough to make Lisa move out of her place. She went downstairs and grabbed some whiskey at the kitchen before heading towards the balcony.
"Of course she has Hanbin, what the fuck are you expecting Lisa?" Lisa said to herself and chuckled dryly. She took a glassful of whiskey and drank it straightly, hoping that it would lessen the pain that she's feeling right now. She took another glass until she already finished half of the bottle.
"What are you doing?"
Lisa jolted up a bit hearing that voice that kept on making her heart in a rollercoaster ride. She didn't dare to turn around so Jennie went beside her waiting for Lisa to respond.
"I can't sleep." Lisa said.
"And drinking alcohol at this time was your solution?
"My body was looking for it. How about you? What are you doing?"
"I went to have some water and I heard noises coming from here so I decided to check it."
Lisa just nodded and took another glass of whiskey. Silence filled the atmosphere between them again and it's slowly making Lisa anxious. She hates being like this with Jennie. This type of silence is unbearable for her.
"About what happened-" Lisa started but she was quickly cut off by Jennie.
"Let's just forget it and pretend that it didn't happened. We just had too much wine and champagne."
"O-okay."
"And can that incident stay only between us?"
"D-do you r-regret it?"
"Of course. Best friends don't kiss like that."
"Yeah. I guess it's just the alcohol."
"I'll be heading first. You should go to sleep too." Jennie said and went back upstairs.
Lisa held her whiskey glass tightly and as soon as Jennie left, tears started to stream down from her eyes. She covered her mouth, trying her best not to let a single sob escaped. Lisa was prepared for the consequences but still it hurts her like hell. She took the bottle of whiskey and finish it up but it's still wasn't enough to numb the pain that she's feeling right now.
"What a fucking New Year, Lisa."
