CHAPTER 25

Sarah's POV

We all have chapters from past that we are too afraid to read out loud.

"Hey, wait up, I'm coming." A familiar voice came from behind. It was Zack's voice. I tiredly turn around, exhausted with all the thinking.

"What's wrong cherry?" He asked ruffling my hair which was clearly stacked in a ponytail.

"Not my hair!" I glared at him, throwing a side punch.

"Jeez woman, are you on periods?" He asked rubbing the side of his arm I pinched.

"No!" I glared at him again.

"Okay, then what's the matter? Whats got you in a screwball?" He asked resting his side of the shoulder on one of the lockers.

"It's Kate and her talks!" I leaned on the lockers too clearly blocking the bells for the class.

"What about it?" We walked outside the building in a quiet corner, or you could say we were skipping our class because he dragged me out.

"She seems to think James is acting up and he leaves as quickly as he can when you all come and she thinks he has a girlfriend." I ranted out once we reached the ground.

"She scores here, what's the problem again?" He asked.

"Ugh. Okay, let's do this again." I spoke after I regained my composure.

"So I'll tell you all of it again and you nod in yes if you understand and in no if you don't understand. Okay?" I asked him as we sat on the bench and he nodded.

"So James sneak off somewhere every time you or anyone else comes and talks." He nodded at this.

"Then Kate told he might have a girlfriend since he keeps running." I said slowly and he nodded at this.

"That's the fact he keeps running. He does really seem weird!" He said thinking about something.

"Sometime ago he told me, he likes me!" I sighed heavily.

"And you?" He calmly asked judging by the dilemma I was in.

"I think I do. Quite a crush, he is hot though and that's beside the point. I know he sneaks out somewhere but he having a girlfriend or a secret didn't pop up in my mind until....." I trailed off.

"Until Kate voiced it out." He completed the statement for me sipping his milkshake. Wow, I didn't even notice it.

"Yeah." I said kicking off the stone afar.

"I thought I would say him yes today but he ran off in the break too and now it's completely blowing up." I whispered making a point.

"So you go ahead talk to him. I mean let him find you after school and try to talk." I looked at him baffled, his words didn't make sense to me. He understood my expression and proceeded to explain further.

"Let's make a plan." He rubbed his hands together.

"So you let him reach you and talk and meanwhile when he does it, text me or Nate we will both see you and the rest you don't need to know." He passed me his milkshake for taking the last sip.

"But..." I whined.

"No buts lady, now move your butt the class is about to get over!" I dumped the glass and followed him back in the building.

I have a bossy best friend.

———

Get. It. Together. Sarah.

That's what I was ranting when James came to my locker after I bid bye to the girls and Abbott. Casually shoving off my books which I didn't require, acting cool or at least I thought so. I quickly pull out of the phone and messaged Zack that I am on the 3rd floor with James and fish the phone back in the pocket.

"Hey!" I breathed out as I greet James.

"Hey. You okay?" He studied my face like some newspaper.

"Why? Yes, of course, Nothing's wrong." I replied prudently letting my hair off the ponytail so that it covers a bit of my face making sure I mask my face with a smile.

"You sure? You seem pale." His beautiful eyes screamed concern but deep down I knew there is something more than this concern. His features were beautiful but all beautiful things have dents.

"I am perfectly fine." I dismissed that with a gesture of my hand.

"What are you doing tonight?" He asked me and then his facial expressions turned a little different than that minutes ago and a heavy arm swung on my shoulder immediately

"She is doing a movie marathon with us in the evening." Nate answered and then turned to me.

"Aren't you!?" Zack added tracing the confusion that was written very clearly on my face although I kept it guarded and I also let my hair cover my face again.

"Yes. Yes, James, I am having a star war movie marathon with them!" I exclaimed.

"Star wars? I thought you'd be in chick flicks." He said in an amusing tone.

"Oh wait. That'd be you. You must love watching all the girly shit especially rom-com." I rolled my eyes with a guffaw and his face turned void of any expression. Just like a poker face.

"Hah. Very funny." He said mocking a very annoying tone.

"Laugh then." I shrugged and honestly I don't know what but Nate and Zack found it very funny so they laughed and James didn't instead he stared as if he is in deep thought.

"Ha ha ha very fine. Now bye, I'll see you around." James walked off and we followed him closely amidst all the student loitering there.

Falsely I wanted to believe there is nothing wrong that's going on but somewhere I know there is something going on maybe some secret even. So we sat in Nate's car and followed his suit. He went on the same another side of the town, the same road he went which I saw him going when I went with Zack. I sunk in the back seat thinking we would never be able to track James as we lost him due to the signal.

"Now what?" I shouted loudly.

"Calm down Cherry."

"No. What do you mean by calm down?" I ferociously move my head to face him.

"Meaning we have to park and now think of something." Zack raked his brain.

"Damn, there has to be something." Zack rubbed his temple clearly frustrated same like I was frustrated.

"Your plan has clearly flopped."  I flung my legs on the rest of my backseat as I rest my head over the windowpane. We needed to think right.

"I wanted to know who he is with if there was at all anyone with the boy I like!' I sighed.

"There is a way." Nate perked up.

"I know a guy who can track the number!" Nate looked through his phone which was somehow fallen between the seats. Amazing.

"What are you waiting for we have already lost half an hour in coming up with a possible solution?" I narrowed my eyes at him while he dialled the number.

Nate called a certain someone giving him James's number and asked him to track his location. My hopes flickered again as Nate's screen showed his location. We reached there in approximately 30 minutes and saw James's car retreating back to the opposite direction. When Nate stopped the car, we ducked our heads so that he wouldn't recognise as he passes us. As soon as he left out of our sight we jump out in relief but now my one percent hope of finding out what's wrong had clearly vanished. Disappeared. Withered.
