Jimin heard the door slam shut, flinching at the sound, and that was when he really let it all out.
Jungkook left him. Jimin was the reason but Jungkook left him. He did leave him.
Jungkook left.
Jimin started to cry hysterically, not believing what he just did. He just broke up with the love of his life.
Why?
He couldn't even remember. Not when his heart was shattering into a million pieces, he couldn't remember why.
It was so loud hearing his heart shatter like that. Didn't Jungkook hear it on his way out?
How didn't he turn around and come back?
Why did he leave Jimin?
Jimin's leg twitched, aching to get up and run after Jungkook and beg for forgiveness.
He couldn't believe what he had just done.
Jungkook had just gotten back from the gym, sweaty and out of breath, and Jimin wanted to die.
He was waiting, sitting at the edge of the bed, their bed, when Jungkook walked into the room.
Immediately sensing the atmosphere in the room, Jungkook frowned. "Baby, are you okay?"
Jimin was sitting still at the edge of the bed, looking down at their carpeted floor, his hands under his thighs. He cleared his throat, lips shaking. "Jungkook-ah." He uttered his lover's name one last time. "Let's break up."
Jungkook's throat hitched, his body beginning to tremble. "What?" He walked closer to Jimin. "What do you mean, baby? Don't joke about something like that." Jungkook let out a nervous chuckle, knowing Jimin wasn't joking but hoping Jimin would prove him wrong.
"Let's break up." Jimin repeated, pursing his lips.
"W-What? Why? Hyung?" Jungkook's hand shoke, and he walked to stand right in front of Jimin. "Please say something?"
"Let's just do it." Jimin muttered, his voice almost gone. He didn't want to cry, he didn't want to be emotional, and he needed to do it calmly. He didn't have anything else to say, couldn't really say it to Jungkook even if he wanted to.
How could he tell the love of his life, and his partner of many years that he hated himself, and didn't think he deserved someone like Jungkook, so before Jungkook could break up he should do it himself, on his own terms.
He also couldn't explain all of this to Jungkook, or he'd do something dumb, like trying to convince Jimin to stay, to love himself, to accept Jungkook's love. He couldn't have it.
Jungkook fell to his knees in front of Jimin, the ring he always carried lately weighing like a ton of bricks in his pocket. He wanted to always be ready for the moment that he found himself kneeling for very different reasons, watching their relationship die in front of his very own wide eyes. "Hyung, no, please? Hyung, please don't do this, please don't leave me, hyung?" Jungkook didn't know when exactly he started crying, only realizing when he saw tears hitting Jimin's pants, and now looking back he can't remember a time where his heart stopped crying since then.
"It's no use, I'll just pack my things and go. Just give me some time." Jimin said, still trying to keep his composure.
Jungkook sobbed in a laugh. How could Jimin be this calm about them breaking up, how could he keep his fucking composure while breaking his heart like that? How could he be this cruel and this beautiful and have him cry for him, but still love him so much? "No. No. You're not leaving me, hyung. We're not breaking up please no. I can't l-live without you, I can't breath without you please." Jungkook begged, holding Jimin's thighs, and leaning to hug them. "Y-You're not leaving me. N-No. I'll d-die"
Jimin pursed his lips hard, trying not to sob out loud. It needed to be done, and there was no use in crying about it.
He made his decision.
"I'll pack my things." He said emotionlessly, moving to stand up, breaking Jungkook's hold on him, breaking everything.
Jungkook felt Jimin gently move him away, standing up to head to the closet, and reality really started to set in, and his first thought was, if Jimin was breaking up with him, then he wanted to run so far away from anything that related to Jimin. If Jimin was leaving him, he couldn't stay in their home, and mourn him, he needed to be the one to leave. "T-That's okay, hyung." Jungkook spoke, making Jimin freeze in his tracks, he was still kneeling on the ground in front of the bed, arms fallen by his sides, defeated. "I'll leave. I can't stay here."
The next thing Jimin knew, was Jungkook taking the same backpack he came home with, and started to pull anything he knew was his in the bag, he couldn't really tell which was his or Jimin's at this point, their lives were so intertwined in the last few years that what was Jungkook's was Jimin's and what was Jimin's was Jungkook's. They were so connected that they could practically blend into the same person.
Jungkook wanted to laugh, he felt as if this was still some sort of a joke, one of their pranks, cause he surely wasn't about to lose his Jimin, his reason to live.
Jimin wasn't prepared to see Jungkook take random things from their room, shoving them into his bag, and leaving the room, running with rage to the front door, cause how could his love do this.
Jungkook slammed the door shut behind him, and he never turned back.
Jimin was hysterical, falling on the floor and screaming his heart out, crying was overrated anyway, he wanted to stop existing.
He couldn't feel anything for hours, couldn't really tell the time, he wasn't sure if he had passed out or had a black out, all he remembered was feeling someone pull his body off the floor, and he was being carried to bed.
He couldn't really hear anything, and if he asked, he knew Taehyung wouldn't tell him.
Taehyung would never tell him how he walked in on his soulmate shaking on the floor, his body in fetal position, just waiting for it all to end.
Taehyung would never tell Jimin how he screamed for help when Jimin wasn't responding to him, when Jimin couldn't snap out of it.
Taehyung would never tell Jimin how his hands shook when he tried to get his phone out of his pocket to call for help, his Yoongi hyung would know what to do, he will be able to help.
Taehyung will never tell Jimin how it was one of the most traumatic experiences in his life, how he felt helpless in front of his soulmate, seeing him like that and not knowing what to do, that he even had to ask someone for help.
Yoongi left after he made sure Taehyung and Jimin were alright, exactly twenty four hours after the incident and he saw Jimin responding to them, not merely in words, but at least they knew he could hear them and understand what was happening. When Yoongi watched Jimin drink a glass of water, with Taehyung wrapped around him, he knew he needed to leave them alone.
Jimin's days were blank after that, the next seven days all blurred into one big nightmare that was never ending, no matter how many times he fell asleep and woke up.
Food was spoon fed to him by Taehyung when he had to force something down his throat, and threatening to call Jimin's mother so she can help instead.
Taehyung spent days sitting beside his soulmate everyday crying his heart out and watching him sleep, wondering why only the good people had to suffer, because he knew his soulmate didn't deserve this.
After seven days of taking care of Jimin, he listened to Jimin tell him exactly what he had feared and exactly what he knew he wanted to say since the first day. "I wanna be alone, Taehyung-ah."
Jimin wasn't speaking much, if speaking at all. Talking it out wasn't an option. So when he knew there was no getting out of this, and this was what Jimin really wanted. He left with a lot of promises mixed with threats.
"You have to eat three meals a day. Call me everyday and always answer my calls or texts. Stay hydrated and go easy on the alcohol. If you do not listen to what I'm saying, so god help me, Jimin, I will fly your mom from Busan so she can handle it instead of me. I'm going easy on you, remember that."
Taehyung left after hugging his soulmate goodbye, trying not to cry and failing miserably.
Jimin closed the door after Taehyung. Weakly walking back to the bedroom, and laying on the bed, his body falling into that fetal position that seemed to comfort him, and he begged for sleep to come and take him away.
Jungkook had stumbled into the dorm that day, face as white as a ghost, tear tracks on his face. He had literally stumbled cause his legs couldn't carry him any longer.
How he managed to get back to the dorm, he didn't know. He wasn't even sure if he walked or took a taxi.
Hoseok was walking by the living room when the door clicked open, and he found Jungkook falling inside, so he rushed to catch him, thinking he just tripped, until he saw Jungkook's face. "Jungkook? What? What happened? Are you okay?"
At hearing this, Namjoon came running from the couch, seeing Hoseok barely managing to hold Jungkook up, who wasn't passed out or anything, but definitely couldn't stand up on his own. "What? What's wrong, Jungkook-ah?!"
In a matter of minutes, all his hyungs were around him, one taking off his bag off his shoulders, and one helping him to the nearest couch, one getting a glass of water, and one getting a perfume so Jungkook can be snapped back to reality.
Taehyung had taken one look at Jungkook and feared for the worst, until Jungkook said out-loud what he dreaded. "J-Jimin, h-he broke up with m-me."
Taehyung saw all the life leaving Jungkook's face as soon as he said it, as if the younger just now realized what happened.
Yoongi looked straight at Taehyung, and he was moving a second before Yoongi was telling him to head to Jimin's and Jungkook's apartment, hands shaking while he was putting his shoes on.
Jungkook did not move from the couch for a while. Jin was sitting at the far end of it, and Jungkook had been laying on his thighs since then, staring into nothing, his mind not even working, he wasn't even thinking of anything, all he felt was his hyung stroking his hair, and if Jungkook focused enough, he could pretend it was Jimin and not Jin.
He could pretend that what happened today never happened, but he knew it did.
So the first tear fell, followed by another, and another, until he was crying his eyes and lungs out, never knowing his heart could hurt this much, in this type of way.
Jin continued to play with his hair, shushing his cries and telling him everything will be alright.
He knew it wasn't.
"He left m-me. He left me, and he p-promised he never would. He lied to m-me." Jungkook sobbed, sitting up when he couldn't breathe. "I need him, hyung, please, p-please."
Jungkook kept babbling, his mind only thinking of the fact that he was abandoned. Jimin abandoned him.
But he couldn't help but wish for him. He didn't want anyone's comfort, didn't need it. He only wanted his Jimin, his hyung, his catalyst.
Jungkook couldn't understand how he was so loved and then so suddenly not.
How could someone promise everything, and then just leave?
Would it still be love?
Jungkook cried his feelings out, not comprehending the fact that he was sitting on the couch beside one of his hyungs. He knew he wasn't home anyway.
He continued to cry until only dry sobs came out, and then just, nothing.
He sat still, staring at the wall again, not feeling anything.
What was it all for anyway?
What was the point of Jimin loving him in the first place if he was going to leave? What was the point of making all those promises, all these plans for the future? Jimin left him at the end. There was no Jimin and Jungkook anymore.
Did their story just end?
Then why? Why? Why? Why? Why?
So he started to cry again.
"Why did you leave me, Jimin-ah? What did I d-do?"
What was the point of life without Jimin.
It felt bland. It had no taste. It was life alright, just wasn't life to be lived anymore, not without Jimin.
Jungkook spent the first week on that same couch, not wanting to face their old rooms. Jimin's room just held too many memories he wasn't ready to face, and his own still had a lot too, even if they didn't spend that much time in it.
Jungkook thought maybe he should go home to Busan, but that still held memories.
There was no escape from Jimin.
He was everywhere.
He was his love and he was taken from him and nothing in the world could compensate for him, and Jungkook wanted to disappear from existence.
Jungkook eventually missed Jimin too much so he decided to sleep in Jimin's old room, where some of Jimin's old clothes were so he decided to wear them just because he didn't pack any clothes with him when he left.
He chose to ignore the fact that his old closet had some of his own clothes.
Jungkook went back to his old habits easily. Locking himself in his room, and overworking at the gym.
Over the course of a few weeks, Jungkook learned that he doesn't need to stop loving Jimin, even if Jimin did.
It didn't matter.
Jungkook could spend the last days of his life content with the fact that no one else can take Jimin's place in his heart, so he took the pressure of moving on off from himself.
After all, if Jimin could just give him the slightest hint, Jungkook would come running.
So he waits.
With a broken heart and a little bit of hope, he waits.
He will wait forever if it came down to it.
