Chapter One Hundred Sixty Seven
Let's Not Fall In Love(我们不要坠入爱河)
Hello everyone, sorry for making you wait so long for this chapter. Got a bit distracted while writing this one, but it's here now. I hope you do still enjoy it. Thanks for waiting patiently for this chapter â¥ï¸
"How long have you been seeing him," my dad asked my mom calmly?
"Not long."
"How long," he repeated raising his voice?
"Five months."
I sat at the top of the stairs listening looking down at them in the living room. My mother was crying, but my father made no move to try to console her.
"So, what? You've been sleeping with him and then coming home and sleeping with me?"
"Honey I-"
"Don't you dare call me that!" I watched as my father stood from where he sat, "did you call him that too!"
"Guanting I never wanted to hurt you."
"You're cheating on me with my best friend and you never wanted to hurt me?"
"No," she sobbed out.
"Did you even think about Ji Nan. How this will affect him?!"
My mother just stayed quiet and sobbed. I didn't know much on this situation, but I knew enough. I had never seen my father this angry. I wouldn't say he was angry, it was more hurt. Don't get me wrong my father is a hard man to like because of his attitude but I have never seen him disrespect my mother. He's never even raised his voice at her until now.
"I was lonely. You weren't here..."
"So you decided to sleep with my best friend? In my house? In our house!"
"Why can't you understand?"
My mothers pained voice echoed through the house. My father fell silent and to my surprise he turned around. As soon as he did that our eyes met. His eyebrows were furrowed and to my surprised he shifted his eyes.
"Get out," my father said with a shaky voice.
"What?"
"You heard me."
"But my things..."
"You own nothing in this house. I would take the clothes off your back but you've dirtied them."
He turned around to face her and even though my mother seemed hysterical he didn't seem to care.
"Ji Nan," he called.
Upon hearing my name I jumped a bit, "yes."
"Go to your room."
"Why?"
"Just go."
I slowly got up from my spot and walked out of the view of the stairs. I could still see, but i wish I just listened. As soon as left from the stairs I watched as he marched over to my mother. He grabbed her arm and started to pull her towards the front door.
"Let go of me," my mother yelled!
My father gave her no response and without thinking I ran down the stairs. As I came into the entrance way I watched as my father threw her to the ground.
"Dad," I said softly?
My dads head snapped towards me, "I told you to go to your room?"
"What are you doing dad?"
" Ji Nan, please," he said softly.
I didn't know what to do. I wanted to leave but my feet were glued to the hard wood floor.
"Why? Why are you doing this to me," my mother cried.
My father gave her no response and instead walked over to me. He patted my shoulder and motioned for me to follow him. I wanted to follow him but my eyes were locked to my mothers. She seemed to be asking, no begging me to help. I took a deep breath and turned and followed my father. I'm sorry...
When I came to Ba Wei's voice was the first thing I heard. It was calm but I knew from his tone that he was trying not to show he was worried. I didn't recognize the voice that he was talking to and I didn't really care. I sat up and touched the back of my head. I had expected it to hurt but it didn't really. Not anymore than what it did originally.
"Ba Wei," I called.
His head immediately snapped towards mine and as our eyes met I couldn't help but raise a eyebrow. The look in his eyes was annoyance more than anything else. What the hell did I do to warrant a look like that from him?
"Go to tell this to my father and get back to me."
The guy he was talking to finally left and he made his way over to me. When he got up to me he immediately reached out and caressed the side of my face.
"You gotta stop scaring me baby."
His tone was soft and as I stared into his eyes I couldn't help but feel a bit guilty. He looked a bit worse for wear. He looked tired.
"Sorry," I said softly," I didn't mean to pass out again."
He laid his forehead against mine, "it's not your fault."
"It is. I'm making you worry."
He let out a soft chuckle and moved away from me. He sat down on the bed beside me and ran a hand through his hair.
"How long have a I been out?"
"About two hours. You fell so suddenly, I barely was able to catch you."
"Thank you for catching me."
He smiled, "no problem."
I ran a hand through my hair and thought about right before I fainted. That phone call with my mom registered in my mind. Anger began to bubble in me.
"Ba Wei can you get my phone?"
"Don't worry about your father, I already called him."
"You did," I asked surprised?
"Well of course. You just fainted after finding out your mother is trying to kill him. I might not like the old bastard but I'm going to warm him."
I couldn't help the smile they reached my face, "what did he say when you told him that?"
He chuckled, "surprisingly he said he had known for a while."
Upon hearing that I wanted even more to call my father. If he had known for so long then he must have known about that woman at his side too.
"Did you tell him about his fiancé?"
"Yeah I mentioned it but he didn't say anything and just told me thanks for telling him."
I was confused on why my father seemed so relaxed about hearing something so terrible. I had a bad feeling and I knew it was no good. I stared down at my hands for a second before I looked back up at Ba Wei.
"Fly me home."
"Huh?"
"Fly me home right now."
If I trusted my gut on this I knew something was wrong. The fact that he was so friendly, the fact that he showed such lack of emotion to Ba Wei. I don't know, something just didn't seem right. My father was a lot of things but he would never be so forgiving after learning such information.
"Okay. I'll let my father know, but relax a bit okay."
I sighed, "I wish I could but you know I can't."
He didn't say anything and just stared at me for a few minutes. He shifted his eyes and was about to get up but I grabbed his arm. That look in his eyes was like before. Annoyed.
"Hey, why do you keep looking at me like that?"
"Like what?"
"I don't know. With annoyance."
He sighed and pulled his arm from my hand, "it's nothing. I'm just stressed."
I cleared my throat, "stressed because of me. Got it."
Ba Wei immediately looked at me, "I didn't say that Ji Nan."
"You didn't have to. If me asking for help is bothersome I'll book a flight on my own."
I got up from the bed and started to search for my phone. I could feel Ba Wei's eyes on me but I didn't care. He only let out a low chuckle before I heard footsteps coming towards me.
He wrapped his arms around me from behind, "do you usually just make your mind up like this?"
"It's obvious that me being so needy-"
"I never said that Ji Nan," he said cutting me off. "I said I was stressed. Sure having to take care of you is adding to that but I never said I didn't enjoy it."
"But you didn't deny that I was annoying you."
He kissed my neck, "I didn't feel like talking about it right now is all. I promise I'm not upset at you. I'm just stressed because I feel useless to you."
I turned in his arms, "you're not useless. You've helped me a lot so don't feel like that."
"How? Baby you got hurt because I wasn't there. Because I was preoccupied with my fathers shit."
I kissed him, "don't beat yourself up. I'm fine because you came. I'm not that fragile so don't treat me like I am."
He took in a deep breath, "I just don't want to lose you."
"You won't."
