Chapter One Hundred Sixty Four
Let's Not Fall In Love(我们不要坠入爱河)
When I heard that name I couldn't help but feel like that it sounded familiar. I couldn't place my finger on why it did. I listened as Kang Wu and Ba Wei's father shared information about what was going on. Listening I realized that they didn't know much. I was zoning out until Ba Wei said something that caught my attention.
"So how are we going to make that guy talk?"
He asked that coldly but when I glanced at him his eyes were soft. He picked up the tray and placed it closer to me. He glanced down at the food and back at me. It didn't take anything else for me to understand that he was telling me to eat. So I did just that.
"I don't know. We could definitely break out the good stuff for the guy, but that girl we can't," Kang Wu said.
"And why not? I think she needs a lesson?"
When Ba Wei said that his voice was flat and cold. I didn't say anything and continued to munch on the apples that I had picked up.
"The girl doesn't seem like she knows much. Plus seeing how's she's been crying if we hurt her I feel that I will have to pay off a lot of people to avoid legal consequences," Ba Weis father explained.
"That's true. I say we cut the girl loose. It's not like she had much of a choice in the matters. He was blackmailing her."
Ba Wei didn't say anything and Kang Wu continued talking. He explained how it would be much easier to just cut her loose. I agreed in a sense. It wasn't sympathy, just a logical move. I knew she would probably make a scene. Especially since she seemed to want to get back at me. She would definitely go to the police if they hurt her.
"Can you guys get out," Ba Wei said suddenly.
I had thought that the two men in the room would put up a fight but they just kept talking and got up. They waved a bye to me and left. I was confused on what just happened. If anyone would've put up a fight about staying it would've been Kang Wu.
"I'm so confused right now," I said.
Ba Wei chuckled, "why?" He climbed into the bed and leaned again the bed board beside me.
"They left without a fuss."
"Yeah. I'm glad they did. I don't think I have the energy to forcefully remove Kang Wu."
I cocked a eyebrow, "not gonna forcefully remove your father?"
"Hell no. I pick my battles wisely. Plus my father doesn't put up a fight when I tell him to fuck off."
I didn't say anything and just nodded. The room fell into silence and I could feel his eyes on me as I ate. It felt like he was looking at every detail on me. I glanced at him and our eyes met.
"Do you want a bite," I said holding up my sandwich.
He shook his head, but I didn't really give him at option. I put the sandwich up to his mouth and to my surprise he took a bite. I smiled and took a bite right after. I glanced him over and couldn't help but notice that his hands were slightly shaking.
"Hey,"I grabbed his hand, "are you okay?"
He nodded, "yeah why?"
"It's just that your hands are shaking"
He shifted his eyes, "it's probably from lack of sleep."
"Get some sleep then," I said softly.
"No, I'd rather make sure you're alright."
I couldn't help but smirk. I took one more bite of my sandwich and grabbed the tray. I carefully sat it on the side table and laid down. I looked over at Ba Wei to see him looking confused.
"Well come on."
"I'm not tired."
"Lying is useless when you look exhausted. Now lay down."
He sighed but still did as I asked. He laid down beside me and pulled me into his arms. My body relaxed into him immediately. I looked up at him to see that his eyes were already closed. I smirked and reached up and caressed his face. He moved a bit but didn't open his eyes. I listened as his breathing slowly become steady.
"I thought you weren't tired," I said aloud.
I smiled to myself and just laid there in his arms. I wasn't tired at all, but as long as he is getting sleep I didn't mind much. I just thought about everything they had happened. I couldn't wrap my mind around the fact that that guy killed Cheng De. If I remember correctly he said that he loved him, so why would he kill him. Sure Cheng De was a dick but the way he talked about him didn't seem like Cheng De forced him to do sexual things.
Thinking about this made my head hurt but I needed to figure out why he ever came all this way. If I had to guess I'd say that him and Cheng De broke up. I don't know what kind of relationship they had behind closed doors but the way his voice was saddened when he told me that Cheng De would say my name while engaged in sexual things was pretty clear.
Even envisioning that made me feel disgusted. to think that Cheng are wanted me in that way was confusing. He never showed me any affection. In fact he always used my make my days worse. I furrowed my eyebrows and decided not to think about it anymore. I lay there not thinking about anything until I thought about my father.
Where was he? I know if I was out for two days Ba Wei would've contacted him. He probably didn't want to but I know he would've. I glanced up at Ba Wei and slowly started to try to get out of his hold. After a few calculated movements I was able to sit up. I looked down at him and couldn't help but think he was cute. It wasn't everyday that I got to see his sleeping face.
I reached out and pushed his bangs out of his face before I slowly got up from the bed. I made sure to use the night stand to help me balance. I stood there for a few minutes before I slowly started to walk. It wasn't as hard a I thought. After a few steps towards the bathroom It felt fine.
I looked around the room in search of my phone and spotted it on a dresser. I slowly walked over to it making sure not to make too much noise. I quickly grabbed it and made my way to his bathroom. I was going to close the door but I felt as soon as he heard the click he would get up. I cut on the light and opened my phone. I clicked on my fathers number and waited for him to answer.
"Hello."
"Hey."
"So you're awake. I wondering when you'd come to."
"That's all you have to say."
"Well, you have that boy with you."
I sighed, "so you know why I'm calling."
"Of course. That boy of yours called me and told me about your condition."
"Then why did you not come."
"Well, he asked me not to, and-"
"Didn't know you were one to follow orders," I said cutting him off.
"Don't humor me Ji Nan. I was still going to come, but I wasn't feeling well."
"Hmm. Are you feeling better."
"A bit. Been hard to keep energy but that's about it."
"That's good. I'm glad you're feeling better." I scratched the back of my neck, "how's that woman of yours?" Even asking that question made me feel weird. It made me feel awkward.
"She's fine. I'm surprised you asked about her."
"Trust me I didn't want to, but I have to be polite don't I," I said laughing.
"Thanks for asking anyway," he said laughing, "I'll tell Chunhua you asked about her."
As soon as I heard that name the smile that was on my face fell. No wonder that name sounded familiar. I had only heard it once when I first met her, but my fathers fiancé was called Chunhua.
"Dad."
"Hmm?"
"Her last name. Is it Song?"
He was silent for a second, "yeah It is. Why?"
I knew I couldn't necessarily tell this man that the women he was sleeping with was plotting with her son to kill me. If I did it would put him in even more danger. I hadn't noticed it before but my father hadn't had any body guards around him. I didn't need to let that woman know that I was on to her.
"No reason. Just was wondering what my step moms name is."
"Don't be a dick." I heard shuffling in the background, "I have to go. I'll call back later."
"Alright."
When the phone call ended I just stood in front of the mirror and was just in shock. Why do I have such bad luck. I looked into the mirror and sighed. Not only was the women an issue but she's engaged to my father. What were they planning? I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by this sudden information. There was another thing that was bothering me. Although I called him to ask him why he didn't come down after he heard I was hurt. Sure he gave me a answer, but even after he didn't ask me how I was. I would say it hurt but what did I expect from him.
I took a deep breath and walked out of the bathroom. As soon as I walked back in the room I noticed that Ba Wei was sitting up.
"Was I too loud? Did I wake you," I asked concerned?
"No, you just weren't in the bed."
I climbed back into the bed, "how does it feel?"
"What do you mean?"
"How does it feel to wake up alone?"
A smile spread across his face, "it didn't feel good if that's what you're asking?"
"Yeah, how the tables have turned," I said in a mocking tone.
Ba Wei pushed my slightly, "shut up before I do it more in the future."
"I'm so scared," I said laughing.
I was about to push his buttons more but before I could he kissed me. I laughed a bit and pulled away.
"you can't get out of every situation like that?"
"I think I can," he said smiling.
"You're lucky you're handsome."
"and if I wasn't?"
"I'd be much meaner."
He laid his head on my shoulder, "you only love me for my looks." He put his hand on his chest and said sarcastically, "that hurts."
"Don't say dumb things."
After I said that the room fell silent. It was nice to just know he was beside me. I reached out and grabbed his hand. I think he thought I was about to intertwine our fingers but instead I just fidgeted with his fingers. We sat in silence for a few minutes before Ba Wei broke the silence.
"What did your father say on the phone?"
"How did you know I called him?"
He cocked a eyebrow, "who else would you be on the phone with?"
"That's a good point," I said laughing. "He didn't say much."
"So what did you guys talk about then?"
Should I tell him? That's the only question I could think about? I didn't want to worry him, but I also didn't want to keep anything from him. I glanced over at him, and I wish I didn't because I could see in his eyes that he was worried.
"I'll tell you later," I laid back down in the bed, "lets take a nap first okay."
He laid down and wrapped his arms around me.
"Okay."
