07| memories

Kane felt awkward and lost. He didn't know what to do.

After hearing from his sister, which was one hell of a ride.

Flashback

"Big bro, I have something to tell you. But don't get mad" Enya started off which made Kane think of different things.

1. She crashed his/her own car

2. She stole his snacks

3. She is pregnant

4. She has a significant other

5. She is actually an alien

6. She is his mother and his 'mother' and 'father' are his siblings.

As you can tell, Enya has done multiple questionable things.

"Hello, human, you there?" Enya said which brought him back to reality.

But what he did catch was the word 'human'. So the first logical thing that came to his mind is to yell. "You are an alien?!"

"No oh my god, relax. Wow, I really made you go become like that" Enya muttered the last part, genuinely concerned for her brother.

"Okay so? Don't tell me you crashed your car" Kane said it, more as a joke.

Enya then remembered. She kinda crashed her car. She smiled at him sheepishly, trying to pretend it was nothing.

"Are you serious?! It's the fourth time this month" Kane face palmed himself. Enya should not have a license.

" Sorry. But that's but the point. The point is that we need to control our staff.

People were making fun of Leah and gossiping about she slept with you to get in contact with. us" Enya explained and Kane looked like a volcano ready to explode.

"Okay but don't do anything. I promised Leah. What you can do is instead talk to her" Enya offered and Kane begrudgingly nodded.

Kane wanted to give the whole company a lesson but he respected Leah's decision.

"Okay I'll go find her" Kane said, getting up from the chair.

Enya was about to leave, glad that he had forgotten that Enya crashed her car for the fourth time this month.

However, Kane spoke again, "Don't think I forgot about your car. I'll settle that with you later"

Damm it, she groaned. She was going to get it.

Flashback over

So Kane went over to make sure she was doing okay. But now he didn't know what to do.

He though out many ways- 1, just go to her, 2, get something for her quick or 3, run away and ask for help.

In the end, he went with the first option. For one he didn't know what she liked and two, she knew Enya would give shit advice.

"Hey Leah" Kane said softly as he approached  her desk.

"Hi Kane" She wiped her tears again for the second time today. It was like deja vu all over again.

"Are you okay? I heard what Enya said. I'm sorry about that" Kane said apologetically.

"I'm fine. The gossips never bothered me anyway" Leah lied.

Wow, I'm really good at lying, she thought to herself.

"Okay" He didn't buy it but didn't push the matter further. "I'm sorry if it's too personal but I saw you crying just now. Are you feeling well?"

"I'm fine" Leah lied once more. She was getting really good at it.

"Okay if you say so. I'm always here to talk" Kane reminded her who nodded gratefully.

"Have dinner with me on Friday?" Kane asked. He wanted to get to know her, sort out his feelings.

His heart was puzzled with the many emotions he felt, but he can't seem to figure out if he loved her or was it just infatuation.

Leah also had issues trying to understand where all of this comes from.

She only has one relationship and that fucked her up a lot.

She caught her boyfriend of two years doing the deed on the bed she bought, their clothes on the sofa she bought.

Leah couldn't do anything. She was just paralyzed. The worst part was her 'boyfriend' was not even sorry for cheating.

And I quote, "Sorry Leah but you didn't even give me what I want. I have my needs. Besides, it was just one time. Relax"

Leah couldn't believe her ears. She ran away, all alone. She didn't have her parents with her and she had no where else to go.

So she did what she had to do. Kick the both of them out and leave the relationship. It was definitely the best thing she did.

It was tough but she managed.

So thinking of Kane and having a relationship scares her.

Leah didn't know if he would do the same like her ex, or be one of those people who was just her.

Plus, hearing the rumors about how vicious Enya is when it comes to her brother's significant, also her sister in law, she was scared.

As much as she wanted to reject, she wanted to say yes.

Should she follow her heart or her mind?

In the end, she agreed. It was just one dinner with Kane. It wasn't a date.

"Okay, I'll pick you up at 6 on Friday. I'll let you get back to your work. Bye" Kane said as he left for his office. Now she had to get her head back in the game, ready for work.

At least, she had something to look forward to.

"Thank you so much. Is it possible to meet on Saturday instead? 2pm would be great" Leah was currently on the phone at home.

Leah had only just got home when an agent called her. She had been looking around and decided to give it a go.

She had been looking for shops to start her business. She had finally saved enough money to slowly start her business.

Leah was excited to look at places. It was looking bright for her.

She then ended the call, really happy. After that, she ate her dinner. Today, she wanted to cook something for herself.

Seeing that her fridge was empty, she decided up grocery shop.

Leah changed into her lounge wear, a simple white crop top and matching hoodie and sweat pants.

Slipping on her slides, she then left her apartment.

The supermarket was not far away, just a short five minutes walk from her place. In a blink of an eye, she reached.

Leah thought of what she needed.

Milk

Eggs

Spaghetti

Mariana sauce

Rice

Seafood

Onions

Carrots

Cheese

Ramen

Sweets

Chips

Tea bags

Pork

That should be it, she thought.

Scanning through, she grabbed everything that was on offer, still trying to save money.

"Leah?" She heard a familiar voice.

Turning around, she saw Scarlet, the girl from the coffee shop.

"Oh hi Scarlet, didn't see you there" Leah said apologetically.

"Oh no worries" Scarlet replied.

"How's everything?" Scarlet continued, trying relive the awkward tension.

"It's good. I'm actually looking for a place to start my clothing store" Leah shared.

"Really, that's amazing! If you need any help, let me know. Here, I'll give you my number" Scarlet was elated. She was glad Leah's talent would not go to waste.

It would be a pity.

They both exchanged numbers, promising to contact one another.

"I'll leave you to be now. Hope to hear from you soon" Scarlet said, bidding goodbye.

"Bye Scarlet" Leah waved as she left the supermarket.

Leah was thankful for Scarlet. She definitely would need her help.

She remembered why she was here- to grocery shop.

With speed, she grabbed the remaining items left from the list she made mentally, paid, and left.

By the time she got home, it was around 7.05pm and so she started to meal prep for the next few days.

But first, dinner. She was starving like a lion deprived human and she needed food in her system right away.

Leah decided to just make spaghetti for dinner today, but added some hotdogs she bought when she saw it was on offer.

Grabbing multiple hotdogs, she cooked it alongside a few days worth of spaghetti.

While waiting, she also marinated the seafood she bought- some fish and squid and placed them in the freezer.

Remembering her childhood, her mother would always cook her favorite food, pork braised rice.

Leah wanted to make it. For memories. For her parents.

She couldn't help but be emotional as she recalled her parents being there for her.

So Leah also marinated the pork, cooked some rice and boiled eggs and some vegetables for the next few days.

Just then, her pasta and hotdogs were done so she sectioned it. It was enough for five meals excluding for today.

While eating, Leah also washed up the pots she used and waited for the eggs to solidify and vegetables to cook.

Looking at the time, she realized it was quite late- 8.53pm and Leah was tired. She couldn't wait to flop on her bed and sleep.

So she swiftly cleaned up and kept the ingredients back into the fridge and resume tomorrow.

Leah then took a shower and flip on her bed and read a book before falling asleep.

Her last thoughts were, Do I like Kane? Or is this some kind of joke?
