Chapter 3

01| back to work

Mr Ceo and Me

It was a new day and it's back to work. The weekend felt shorter than usual but what could she do.

Monday was the day she hates but it was back to work for Leah. She didn't particularly like work, but money was her priority now.

She has been working at De Luca corporation was one year now. How she got the job was purely luck.

An HR manager went to her then working spot and offered her a job as his secretary's assistant to work under him.

He offered her the job due to seeing the poor working conditions and how the consumers treated her.

Leah would forever be grateful to him. What she earns now is a hundred times more than her previous job.

With money saved, she hopefully can start her own small little business. That was her goal.

Enough daydreaming, she thought. Or else I will be late.

From her small little place, it was only a short fifteen minutes walk which she always enjoyed. It was how she relaxed even before the day started.

She didn't have friends or a social life. It was always just her. She also was painfully shy and quiet, thus getting bullied or forced to do things she necessarily did not want to do.

She greeted the janitors and the receptionist before heading to her desk at level 15.

Ding! The sound jolted her out of her deep thoughts as she walked over to her desk.

"Photocopy this and that, bring me my coffee, and look through all those files" It was her bully at work, Bianca.

Bianca dumped everything on her two arms who almost dropped those things she was given.

"Yes Ms Hayes" She said quietly before scurrying off to make Bianca's coffee.

"What a loser" Bianca muttered to herself, walking back to her desk as she scrolled through tinder.

"Your coffee Ms Hayes" She carefully placed the coffee on her desk before returning to her own.

It wasn't necessarily a desk or a work space. Bianca kicked her out of her own seat and she worked in a toilet. Yes you heard it right. A toilet.

The HR manager who was kind and helped her get this job had already retired and entrusted his position to Bianca so she was in charge.

The thing was she wasn't even known to exist in this company. Only the janitors and the receptionist.

Most of the other workers thought she had quit or had no knowledge she existed. She still gets her pay thankfully, but it wasn't an ideal workplace but it will have to do for now.

She first photocopied the agreement and the contracts of new hires and interns for the boss to review, of course not forgetting to pass it to Bianca.

Than she had to look through those files Bianca gave to her. It was simple but tedious. Just by looking through and making sure nothing was wrong with the employees, it took up until lunch time.

231 employees had to be looked through in order for this piece of work to be considered done.

She was about to leave, going to buy a quick snack when Bianca came in her little spot. "Finish this before lunch time. I expect to see this on my desk before I come back" And left.

She rubbed her stomach, which was growling for food. However, it was the order from her boss and hence she began working.

Luckily this wasn't as tedious as she thought it would be. She just had to print out multiple agreement forms.

Part of the job scope was also a printer fellow. She constantly was at the printer room though it wasn't part of her job scope. She was just forced.

She quickly did what she needed to do, instructed by Bianca before placing it on her desk.

She heaved a sigh of relief, glad that it was finally done. She wanted to leave this place and buy some food as she felt her stomach growling even more.

Taking advantage of the fact that Bianca wasn't back yet, she went down to the vending machine and payed for some snacks.

On her way back, she bumped into a woman without realizing. That woman was none other than Enya De Luca, the billionaire's sister.

"Omg I'm so sorry Ms De Luca" She immediately apologized, afraid of the consequences.

Why must you be so stupid, she cursed at herself. Now I'm going to loose my job.

"Hey hey darling. Calm down" Leah heard the calming voice reassuring her.

"Sorry Ms De Luca" She was scared to say the least.

"No worries. But who are you? I have never seen you before. Are you perhaps here or an interview or a meeting?" Enya questioned.

Her memory was pretty good and rarely failed her. She looked at the small girl who was cowering.

"I'm Leah and no, I actually work here" Leah replied timidly.

"Really?" Enya was shocked. Pure astonishment was plastered on her face.

"What department do you work at?" Enya continued her little investigation, hoping to find out more about this interesting lady.

Leah was about to answer but she looked at the time. 2.32pm. Lunch break had ended 30 minutes ago and Bianca would probably be back already.

"I'm sorry but I got to go. Hope to see you next time!" Leah shoot Enya an remorseful look before rushing off, praying Bianca wasn't back yet.

To her dismay, Bianca was back and she didn't look happy. In fact, she looked annoyed.

This isn't going to be good, she thought.

"Where were you? It's half an hour after lunch" She questioned, arms folded.

"Erm sorry Miss Hayes I lost track of-" Leah tried to explain but got cut off. "Save it. Just do your work"

Leah sighed as she retreated back to her desk. While eating, she did the work that she was given.

The remaining of the day was just spent on finishing up the work and running to the printer, with Bianca coming in and grabbing things.

"Thank you Bianca, you are such a hard worker!" Leah's ear perked up at this. She peered slightly from the little space.

"Oh it's nothing" Bianca waved it off before waving goodbye to Enya.

Leah just felt sad. All this time she hasn't been given any credit but did she really expect to get some credit?

Her mood dampened and felt like going home but pushed through till the clock struck six.

She left work at 6pm sharp and walked back home. On the way, she took away some army stew from a Korean restaurant nearby before heading home.

Relaxing on her couch, she began eating her army stew to her hearts content while designing her dream shop.

Leah wanted to have a clothing business and ideas constantly flooded her brain. All she really needed right now was money.

I hope this would job can help, she prayed.
