23| birthday surprise

It was 3 March. Leah's birthday.

And Kane was freaking out. He had thought long and hard about what to get for her. He wanted to get her something meaningful, and it hit him.

She would surely love it.

He had purposely got up earlier than usual to prepare breakfast in bed. He had taken a day off as it was a Wednesday.

Kane planned to make french toast with eggs, something his mom had taught him when he was younger. It is a fool-proof plan. Or was it?

With a clear mind, he began cooking, not too loud so Leah wouldn't be woken up. He wanted it to be a surprise.

Thankfully, everything worked out in his favor. The french toasts and eggs didn't burn and Leah hadn't woke up yet. He even had the time to clean up before she woke up.

After cleaning up the kitchen, he checked the time. It was 9.23am. Perfect. Leah would be waking up at any minute now so he had to hurry up.

The smell of the french toast and eggs must have woken Leah up as the moment Kane had entered their shared room, she found her stomach grumbling at the aroma.

"Morning baby. Happy 24th birthday Leah" Kane said as she slowly opened her eyes.

Though she wasn't fully awake, she still was awake enough to register what Kane was doing.

"Thank you so much honey" Leah said, giving Kane a hug. Because of the proximity, Leah sat on his lap where his penis was.

Unknowingly, Leah had given him a present. Kane however didn't say anything. It would be way too awkward.

Getting up, she went to brush her teeth while Kane muttered out a string of colorful language.

"Damm it Leah, why did you give me a boner?" Kane muttered

He had to take a cold shower to calm it down. As much as he wants to make love to Leah, he would wait. Kane didn't want to pressure her.

After that breakfast in bed surprise, Kane had told her to get ready. He already had a plan.

Have the morning and afternoon to themselves and have a small get together at night, plus the biggest surprise that she sure would love it.

Leah looked through her wardrobe, where all her clothes resided. Kane had shifted out his clothes he rarely wore into another to make space for her things.

He loved it.

Leah had no idea where they were going or what they were going to do, but Kane did give her two clues. One- casual wear, and two- don't wear skirts or dresses.

She assumed she would probably be moving around a lot, thus the no skirt or dresses clue, if you will.

In the end, she chose to wear a long sleeved pink crop top with blue jeans. She also added the necklace Kane had got her randomly a few days ago.

Kane shouted from the living room. "Baby, you done getting ready? If not, take your time"

"I'm done. Give me a second!" Leah shouted as she came down from their bedroom.

"You are so beautiful" Kane reminded her everyday, no matter what she was wearing.

As I quote from Romeo, 'Leah could wear a trash bag and you can still think she's the prettiest'. He is not wrong though.

But, it was really ironic. If Scarlet was in a trash bag, he still would look at her like he was the prettiest girl in the world.

Both of them couldn't really say anything else.

"Thank you. And you look handsome, as always" Leah complimented, putting a smile on his face.

He tried his best to not look frumpy. After all it was his girlfriend's birthday.

Choosing a white shirt and grey pants, he topped it off with a watch and rings Leah had got him also a few days ago.

Thinking back, it was hilarious yet sweet.

Flashback

They both had twin telepathy and they didn't believe it.

Kane had bought Leah a necklace as he had thought Leah would like it.

Leah had bought Kane some rings as she felt it suited him a lot.

And, they both were gonna give those things to them at the same time on the same date.

But they didn't know that they were going to clash.

"I have something to give you" They both said at the same time, making them laugh at their telepathy.

They handed each other their gifts to one another.

Opening it up, both of them were happy with their new gifts.

"Great minds think alike huh?" Kane said as Leah laughed.

Flashback over

Smiling at the memory, he came back to reality where he opened the car door for her who smiled in appreciation.

They drove off in comfortable silence, reaching their destination in no time.

"That Taiwanese place?" Leah said.

"Yup. I hope you like it" Kane said slightly nervous.

"I don't like it" Leah said, making his smile drop. "I love it" Which made Kane smile again.

Thank god, he thought.

He felt that she would prefer going to a Taiwanese restaurant where she would enjoy more than a fancy restaurant.

And he was right. The look on her face showed her she felt at home, and he wanted her to feel like that forever.

"Take your pick princess. It's your day" Kane smiled at Leah, who looked like she was a kid in a candy shop.

She ordered an array of food, way too much for the both of them. But he didn't stop her. At the most, they would just pack it home.

They spent around an hour eating, joking, laughing and most importantly, having fun.

After that, they moved on to the next activity Kane planned- laser tag. That was the reason for no dresses or skirts.

As they would be moving around a lot, it wouldn't be comfortable for Leah if she wore something flowy.

"Laser tag? It's on baby" Leah said. Though she hasn't played it in years, she was amazing back then when she was still in Taiwan.

The laser tag took three hours of their time. It was well-spent.

"I won fair and square" Kane flaunted his wins at Leah.

"No you didn't" Leah retorted.

"Yes I did" Kane said back.

"No"

"Yes"

"No"

"Yes"

"No"

"Yes. Wait" Leah said. "Got you" Kane smirked at his victory.

"Come on, let's go home now" Kane stretched his hand out for her, and she took it as they walked back to the car.

Without Leah's knowledge, Kane had texted his sister and made sure everything was ready. The get together was the last thing on their agenda. And it was a secret.

Driving back, Kane acted normal, but deep down he was nervous and excited at the same time. He hoped she would love it.

When they reached, Kane was nervous. He hoped everything would work out.

One, two, three, he thought.

"Surprise!!!!"  Everyone shouted, making Leah shocked. She looked at Kane who looked back sheepishly.

"Surprise! Happy birthday Leah!" Everyone said. She saw that there wasn't a lot of people. Only seven including themselves, and she appreciated it.

Leah wasn't a fan of big parties with people she's not close to. She would rather be with people who actually care.

If only her parents were here, if only, she thought.

Leah received some much things. Books, new clothes, cosmetics, some designing tools and decorations for her new shop. She felt blessed.

She thanked every single one of them. They didn't have to do it. But they did. And she was extremely thankful.

"I have one more surprise for you" Kane said.

"Really, you don't have to do so much" Leah smiled at his loving gestures.

"Trust me, you will love this" Kane said. As he said this, Audrey had got up to bring out the last surprise.

One she would never expect...

"Hi princess" She turned around and saw two people she never thought she would see again- her parents.

"What- How. Am I dreaming?" Leah said, very much in shock.

Flashback

Kane had an idea, but he wasn't sure if it would work out. He still wanted to try it though.

Ever since he knew of her birthday, he has been trying to find the perfect gift for her.

And then it hit him- her parents.

Despite being armed with the very little information, he still tried his best and find their whereabouts.

His efforts finally paid off. He found them residing in a cottage near the countryside.

So with that, he personally made a trip down and explained everything along with his plan to surprise her.

They were very happy and thankful for his efforts. At least they knew that Leah was in good hands.

Flashback over

"Thank you so much" Leah had tears in her eyes, but they were tears of joy.

"Don't cry baby" He wiped the tears from her face.

"It's happy tears" Leah comforted him who relaxed a little.

"Let me formally introduce my parents. This is my dad, Liam and my mom Kaley" Leah said.

It turns out that they hadn't never stopped to find her. But with limited money, it was hard for them to hire a good private investigator.

Also, it was a small world. Matthew, Audrey, Liam and Kaley had been good friends and stayed in contact despite they were staying hours away from one another.

Audrey and Matthew had met Leah when she was a baby up to a child until things when downhill.

With all the surprises done, the 'party' started.

The rest of the night was spent catching up and having fun. They even squeezed in a game of uno for nine people. It was blast.

Dinner was served shortly. The table was filled with so much delicacies and there wasn't a moment of silence.

Around 9pm, everyone went back home, while Leah's parents and obviously the couple stayed.

They were showing them around the next day.

"See you tomorrow!" Her parents said.

"See you. Good night!" Leah said while Kane waved as they went to their separate rooms.

"This was the best birthday ever. Thank you so much" Leah said, smiling as she kissed him.
