When You Wish Upon a Star

Three of A Kind

A/N Tired of the too perfect happily ever after with a nuclear family? Tired of people killing off or marrying off one twin/one part of the threesome? Tired of the typical endings to these poly relationships that don't try to actually make the couple happy?

Look no further...

It had been six years since the party that changed my sister's life. So much had happened in that span of time that it sometimes made my head whirl. Dan graduated from high school and it was not really a big surprise when he immediately moved in with his master, Victor. Mom and Dad Baumann were happy that he was still going to university, even with the added distraction.

Sam surprised everyone by agreeing to move in with Anish. It was not a surprise so much because they thought the two didn't love each other. They did. It was because his boyfriend basically ordered him to and he listened right away. It seemed as though he was content to be the housewife in the relationship and with an enormous house to look after... Anish's sister was happy to have an extra set of hands to order around.

My sister shocked me by moving into the Baumann house and taking over one of their bedrooms. It was awkward for a month or so, running into her in the halls and kitchen like she was a permanent fixture. She seemed happy though, actually all three of them seemed really content with the arrangement, so who was I to rain on their parade.

My boys both got decent jobs out of University. When I graduated, the company that did my internship was quick to offer me a full time job. I lived between my parents' house and the twins' house for awhile even after school, you know, to get settled and save up. Then I moved out with my boys. We needed our own space where we could relax together without 'interruption', if you know what I mean.

That brings us to today. The barbeque day. Mary would not let all her babies disperse without reeling them back in every couple of weeks to check on them. Everyone was expected to show up unless you were dying. Since that hadn't happened yet, the whole gang was here with their significant other. Mary had the expansion leaf in the patio table to fit us all.

Most of the family were out on the back patio by the pool. The invitation had said we had to wear our crazy Christmas shirts that Mom had gotten us last year. It made us chuckle when we showed up. Mom's was the typical 'I am the Boss' and Dad's said 'I am the Boss, when she isn't around.' They were all hokey like that and I loved them.

It was hard to take anyone seriously with them on. Victor was sporting one that said 'I hate t-shirts with stupid sayings' and Dan was laying on one of the loungers with one that said 'I used to think bacon was bad for me, so I gave up thinking.' He was wearing a pair of ears and staring longingly at the barbeque piled with meat, so it was doubly hilarious to me.

"Are you kidding me? Why are their t-shirts better than mine?" Sam groused as he sat up in the lounger next to Dan. I had to admit that the boys' had gotten great ones from Mom and Sam's... well it was perfect for him. It spelled wife and then said 'Washing, Ironing, Fucking, Etc.' Anish was grinning at his sour expression though.

I mean Mom must still be a little mad at him, because Anish's shirt said 'Warning, choking hazard' with an arrow pointing... well you get the picture. I gave everyone hugs and got more than a few chuckles at my t-shirt. Might have gotten a few ass grabs too, but hey, that was the Baumann family for you.

"Speaking of milkshakes, does anyone need a drink refill?" My sister said with a grin at my shirt. I laughed and when more than two hands went up, I followed her in to help her.

"How are you doing Beth?" I asked as she got out some lemonade and grabbed some extra glasses for my boys' and I.

"I'm great. I never thought I would be where I am today, but now that I am here... it is awesome." She chirped. It was nice to see her so happy.

"I understand completely. We still get a few strange looks when we go out and show any affection, but honestly I stopped worrying about it a long time ago. How can I take the 'slut' comments seriously when we have been together for so long?" I argued. She laughed and nodded understandingly.

"I think I might have gone mad if it wasn't for Mary and David. They have been the best partners. SO supportive and loving. Plus, they don't expect me to pop one out. You know I was always worried I wouldn't find someone who didn't want to have kids like me." She said with a faint hint of her old anxiety.

"I am happy for you. Really Beth. You know Mom and Dad are just a little sad that they might not get grand kids from us. We haven't decided for sure yet, but even if we do decide to adopt... it might be hard to get approval for us." I groused. You would think that the government would be ecstatic to give a household with three incomes the chance to parent. Fat chance.

"Come on, they are going to wonder what we are up to." She replied, grabbing as many glasses as she could carry and leaving the rest for me. I tried to walk slow so I wouldn't splash on myself and came out after her. Anish came over to help me and passed a drink to Dan. Beth had already given my boys both drinks, so I brought the last one to my lips.

It tasted really good and I moaned, giving Mom a thumbs up. She made the best homemade lemonade on the planet. It was seriously that good. I looked up to see a yard full of randy boys eyeing me up and I pointed at my shirt with a raised brow. That got a round of laughs and the momentary tension was broken in an instant.

"Since you all can't stop thinking about meat, why don't we hand out these burgers?" Dad said with a chuckle. I almost spilled my drink in my rush to grab a plate and Beth was shaking her head at me.

"You would be first in line, you hoe-bag." She joked. I gave her a shove and then dressed my burger on the table laid out with condiments. Heh, condom-ments for my meat. I sat at the big table and began wolfing down my food.

"How the hell does that boy stay skinny eating like that?" Sam asked with a rumble of laughter.

"He gets plenty of exercise." Rafe responded with a waggle of his eyebrows. Gabe came and sat on one side of me and Rafe joined me on the other side.

"I am sure he does." Beth quipped back.

"You are one to talk." I jibed. She just laughed and then took a big bite of sausage. Not that kind, dummies. The silence was comfortable as we all sat around eating our lunch while it was hot and fresh. Anish had a rather large helping of the potato salad and Sam was trying to steal bites of it. Victor had his arm around the back of Dan's chair and was watching him eat.

Once the bulk of the food was gone, Mom disappeared inside with some of the food that might spoil. I offered to help again, but she waved me off with a smile. I got into a conversation with my sister about needing a larger laundry room with three adults worth of laundry piling up in the week. The one at our apartment was like a closet and had spilled out into the hall on more than one occasion.

Suddenly there was a cake in front of me, shimmering with sparklers. I blinked and looked down at the words, my first thought being 'it's not my birthday so why is there cake?' The blue frosting leapt out at me suddenly and my eyes widened. My jaw dropped. I didn't know whether to look left or right.

"But! How?" I stuttered. Rafe was grinning and holding an envelope. Gabe was grinning too and holding a jewelry box.

"Open mine first." Rafe handed over the envelope. I tore it open. It was tickets to a... cruise? I was confused.

"I don't get it." I cocked my head to the side. Chuckles from the rest had me blushing.

"Marriages at sea are legally binding."

"International waters mean they don't have to follow any laws."

"We just had to find a captain who would do it."

"So will you marry us?" They had spun me around in my seat and were knelt down at each of my knees. I was touched. My boys really thought this one through. They really wanted me. Forever. I couldn't speak so I just started nodding. I made grabby hands at Gabe's present and he cracked it open to present me with the ring.

It was a simple gold band with three diamonds in the middle. I laughed a bit at the smaller one being sandwiched by two slightly bigger ones. That was just like them. Gabe slid it on and it was a perfect fit. I held out my arms to them and pulled them in close.

"I love you two so much. Of course I will marry you." I breathed in the smell of them and blocked out the sound of the family cheering. I vaguely heard my parents in the background and realised it was obvious that they would be invited to what had turned out to be my engagement party. They were talking to Mary when I finally pulled away.

They had taken a long time to come around when we both decided to stay in unconventional relationships. For average people though, they did their best in accepting what made their children happy. I don't know that they were particularly happy themselves, but they still wanted us in their lives. I supposed I should thank my older brother some day for being so boring.

I got a hug from both of them when I moved to greet them. Mom cooed over my engagement ring appropriately. Dad shook hands with the twins and told them to keep taking good care of me. We ate cake. We laughed and remembered the beginning of our relationship. We made plans and pushed Dan in the pool. We got tired and went home.

We lived 'normally' ever after. All three of us.

I am sorry, I know you were all hoping for one more chapter of smut but I needed them to end on a really fluffy note... T.T

This is it for my darling threesome, for the foreseeable future anyways... I hope you loved them and will miss them as much as I will.  ~Angel
