Chapter 11

11:Riley

Finding Myself

I'm so excited today that I can't really pay attention in class, but I don't care. Normally I would be freaking out if I didn't understand all the notes, but my mind is preoccupied with thinking about the sleepover.

I feel like a child for being so excited, but I can't help it. I've always wanted to do it. It's like a dream coming true. I need to thank Quinn for making this all possible for me.

Finally school ends and all I have to do is wait for Quinn's practice to end then we can leave. I make my way over to the bleachers and attempt to start some homework, but I can't do that either. Quinn just keeps popping into my head. I wonder what she has planned for us to do today.

Suddenly someone puts their hands on my shoulders and I look up to expect Mason, but it's actually Quinn smiling down at me. Her light green eyes seem to twinkle in the sunlight and I can't help but stare at her. Her beauty is very enchanting, especially with her big smile that instantly warms my heart and makes me feel safe.

"Uhhh, hi," I say, mentally face palming at my awkwardness.

"Hey there, Riley," she says while sitting down next to me. Our legs slightly touch by accident and I feel goosebumps start to form. I don't understand why though, man I hope I'm not getting sick. I cannot miss any school.

Before Quinn can say another word, I hear Mason. "I knew you guys would be together already. You two are practically inseparable and it's only been like two weeks," comments Mason as he sits on my other side.

"Hey, you're the one that wanted me to make a friend, it's your fault, don't whine," I tease Mason.

He looks at me in disbelief then chuckles. "Never though I would see the day where you turn sassy, but I guess I'm wrong," he comments.

"Well, I learned from the best," I say pointing in Quinn's direction and she smirks at me. The action makes my heart beat like crazy and I try to calm down.

"Hey, Mason, get your ass down here or you run laps. Maybe that will teach you not to be late to practice," yells his coach. Mason looks pretty scared, so he quickly runs to the field, leaving Quinn and I alone.

Sometimes I prefer it like this. Dont get me wrong, I love Mason so much, but it's nice being around another girl. Being around someone who just gets you.

Mason tries his best to understand me, but I feel like I've known Quinn for as long as I've known him. It's a wierd feeling considering that Quinn and I have just become friends, but I feel good around her. I feel like I can trust her.

"I really should go to practice. I can't be late again or the captain will beat the crap out of me," Quinn jokes. "I'll see you after practice."

She walks away and I kind of have an empty feeling now. Like I'm missing a part of myself. I know I'm probably just being dramatic, but I just feel cold without her around. Maybe I'm getting too clingy to her? I really don't know what's going on, it's been a long time since I've made a new friend, so I'm quite rusty to this social aspect.

Anyway, I get back to my homework and eventually finish most of it by the time practice is almost done. I look down st my phone and notice there is just five minutes left, so I just pack and head down the bleachers. I walk straight to where the cheerleaders are practicing and wait until they are dismissed to walk to Quinn.

She's wearing her uniform today and it fits her nicely. Our school colors are white and blue, so not a bad combination. The outfits are pretty, especially on Quinn. She puts the other girls to shame in my opinion.

I wish I could look as good as her. She's so athletic and I'm so not. Not to mention, she also looks good in a pony tail with her straight blonde hair. I could never pull that off, my hair is too wavy and frizzy. I get that from my mom's side.

"Hey, Ry, ready to go," she asks as she picks up her bag and puts an arm around me to steer me in the right direction. I nodd and we head to the exit, but I hear someone call my name behind me.

I turn and face Mason, "Leaving already? Without a kiss goodbye?"

"Oh, right. Sorry," I quickly say as I run over to kiss him and hug him before waving goodbye. Then I run back over to Quinn who is chuckling at my excited attitude. She puts her arm around me again and it feels so incredibly good. It just feels tight and comfortable, so I don't make a comment. I let her lead me to her mom's car.

As we get in and I introduce myself to her mom, it isn't until we left the school where I notice that I didn't even give Mason a second glance when leaving. Wow, I'm becoming a horrible girlfriend. I guess I need to figure out a way to make it up to him later.

Soon we make it to Quinn's home and by this point, Mason is a distant thought. Right now my heart is racing. It didnt hit me until now that I'm going to be at a friend's house. I haven't been to anyone hone other than Mason's or my relatives. What if I mess up somehow? What if i look obnoxious and stuck up? What if Quinn's parents don't like me?

"You going to stay in the car all day?" Quinn teases me which brings me out of my thoughts.

"Of course not," I answer back smiling. I get out of the car and follow her inside.

Quinn's mom says, "Make yourself at home Riley. I'm so glad to have you over. It's nice to put a face to my daughter's new friend who she won't stop mentioning every chance she can get."

"Moooommmmm, stop," Quinn replies shyly. Aw it's cute to see her slightly embarrassed. I'm not used to seeing her like this, she's normally so carefree and cool.

Her mom laughs at her reaction and casually walks away somewhere into the house. Quinn says she is probably going to her office to work, so I follow Quinn up to her room.

Her room is the complete opposite of mine. Hers is so colorful and neatly decorated while mine is just plain and boring. She has a lot of souvenirs around that look amazing so I decide to ask her about them.

"I travel a lot with my parents and I like to get something from every place I visit. Everything I get has done significance to my favorite parts of the trips," she replies.

"What's your favorite place you've visited?" I ask while walking around her room.

"Probably Greece," she answers.

I stop what I'm doing and immediately look at her in shock. "You're so lucky. That's my number one travel destination!"

"I'll take you one day. I know the best places to visit, so I can be like your personal tour guide," she replies.

"Oh my god, yes please," I beg and she starts chuckling.

I walk over to her to sit down on the bed next to her. And she asks, " so what are you in the mood for? Want to have fun or are you hungry now?"

"It's up to you. I'll go with whatever you decide," I reply.

"Oh no no, Riley. Today is all about you. We are doing what you choose to do. So, eat or do something fun?"

I think for a bit before responding, "Well, I'm not exactly hungry yet, so let's do the fun option. What exactly is the fun option?"

"The fun option has two options," she says making me roll my eyes at her. "We can play a board game or watch some movies."

"Whatever you want. I'm good with both," I blurt out.

Quinn sighs heavily, "Well this will be harder than I thought. Riley, today is about you not me. Pick what you would like to do more."

"Um. We can watch movies later. For now, I think I want to play a game. Do you by any chance have monopoly?" I ask.

Quinn gives me an adorable smile before saying, "There we go. Not exactly the game I thought you would pick, but that's okay. And yes, I do have the game. Let me go get it," she replies as she gets up and leaves the room for a little bit.

I used to love playing monopoly with my family when i was younger and now that I'm older I haven't had the chance to play lately. I'm either too  busy with school or have no one to play board games with. So the fact that Quinn is willing to do a two to four hour game with me means so much. It makes my heart feel whole again. And it's an amazing feeling, even if it will only last for a couple of hours.

Author note: I hope you guys enjoyed part 1 of the sleepover.

Have a great day!

Also please have mercy on my grammar and spelling. I'm doing these on my phone and it's hard to do it like that.
