Chapter 48
The Sweetest Trophy Wife by Beanie
Chapter 48 Assessing the Potential Household Staff
After removing some fish bones, a sudden thought struck Gwyneth like a lightning bolt. âHow much longer can I really stay in this house? I donât think I should make this kind of commitment.â
Initially, Gwyneth had intended to offer Liam some advice, but as these thoughts flooded her mind, her words became lodged in her throat. A fleeting sense of detachment flickered within her, but it passed so quickly that she didnât dwell on what that feeling was. Perhaps it was nothing more than a habitual response.
Despite the turmoil brewing within her, Gwyneth managed to maintain a composed expression, convinced that Liam wouldnât detect any hint of her emotional state. Unbeknownst to her, however, Liamâs cutlery continued their rhythmic dance, while his gaze remained steadfastly fixed on her. Maybe it was the unmistakable display of emotions on Gwynethâs face that momentarily unsettled Liam, leaving him unable to utter another word.
The following day, Liam insisted on driving Gwyneth to work, and she saw no reason to refuse such a small gesture. As she had previously pondered, having a free chauffeur wasnât a bad thing at all.
Upon reaching the AMC building. Gwyneth bid farewell to Liam and stepped out of the car, making her way inside.
Lost in thought for a moment, Liam raised his head and instructed his assistant, âWhen we have time this afternoon, find me candidates
that can cook.â
In reality, both Liam and Gwyneth understood that hiring cooking staff was merely a pretext. There was a thin veil of pretense between them, one that neither of them intended to pierce. If they were both afraid of commitment or harboring other concerns, perhaps it was best to make a quick decision here and now.
Meanwhile, in the CEOâs office at AMC Group, Gwyneth had just entered when Wesley walked in right behind her. Seeing the thick stack of files in his hands, Gwyneth couldnât help but feel a headache coming on.
âBoss, I stayed up all night and managed to trace the flow of funds from Glen Corporation,â Wesley said, his eyes bloodshot from a sleepless night. He pulled out two documents from the pile and placed them in front of Gwyneth.
Gwyneth looked up at Wesley and said, âYou know exactly what Iâm looking for.â The two of them shared a knowing smile.
Wesley continued, âBoss, the funds from Glen Corporation ultimately flowed into a tourist destination called Glacier Lake.â
âWhat are those funds for? Investment?â Gwyneth furrowed her brows, feeling a sharp pang in her mind. She looked at Wesley for confirmation, her face expressing a hint of discomfort.
âBoss, are you okay? You donât look wellâ Wesley asked.
âIâm fine. You should go back and rest. Itâd be disastrous if you collapse,â Gwyneth replied.
Wesley understood Gwynethâs temperament. When she spoke at the company, her words were always final. Considering the challenges ahead regarding Glen Corporation, he didnât make any further excuses. âAlright, Boss. If you need anything, just give me a call.â
Gwyneth waved her hand at Wesley, then leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes, deep in thought.
In fact, Gwyneth had a general idea of how to handle the issues with Glen Corporation. However, when it came to implementing her plans, she was unsure where to start. It was only when she thought about her conversation with Liam at Luther Corporation the previous day
that she slowly opened her eyes.
After concluding two meetings in the afternoon, Gwyneth drove straight back to Luther residence. Initially, she had considered calling Liam on the way, but after much hesitation, she decided against it. She thought to herself that rushing into such matters wouldnât do any
good.
However, when Gwyneth pushed open the door and entered Luther residence, she was completely caught off guard by the sight that greeted herâLiam was already there, and standing before him in the living room was a row of women.
Gwyneth stared at them, her eyes widening in surprise. âWhatâs going on?â
âMrs. Luther, these are the candidates Mr. Luther has brought in. Please assess them,â Larry chimed in with a cheerful smile, while Liam remained seated on the couch, silent but acknowledging the situation.
Upon hearing Larry address Gwyneth as Mrs. Luther, the row of candidates couldnât help but gaze at her curiously, each wearing an intriguing expression.
As Gwyneth heard the word âassess.â her eyebrows raised ever so slightly, and a plan began to take shape in her mind. âVery well, I accept, âshe declared, gesturing her chin toward Liam, as if inviting acknowledgment.
She directed Larry to distribute five hundred dollars to each candidate and said. âThereâs a nearby farmers market in the neighborhood. Please use this money to purchase groceries.â
Liam sat nearby, a constant smile playing on his lips. It wasnât intentional, but for some reason, he felt immensely pleased watching Gwyneth take charge of the household.
âMake sure you spend all the money, but keep the receipts. Edward will arrange for transportation, so you neednât worry about the weight
of the groceries.â
Although the staff couldnât quite grasp the lady of the houseâs intentions, they followed her instructions nonetheless. An hour later, they returned with their purchases, and Gwyneth examined each one of them. After this round, half of the candidates were eliminated through
her scrutiny.
In Gwynethâs opinion, a skilled cook should not only possess culinary expertise but also demonstrate consideration for prices when sourcing ingredients. Despite being aware of Liamâs financial abundance, she believed in upholding certain principles.
âSo, Honey, are you managing the household for me?â
Liamâs unexpected remark left Gwyneth momentarily speechless, almost causing her to spew out the water she had just sipped.
âSince when did he start having delusions?â she wondered to herself.
