Dark Mafia Heir: Chapter 30
Dark Mafia Heir: Enemies to Lovers, Forced Marriage Romance (Mafia Vows)
âSalvatore snuck out of the city last night,â Dario says, tapping the desk. âI have some of my men looking for him already.â
I lean back in my seat and glance at him. âSnuck out of the city?â
I think for a moment. My men have been on guard for the last couple of days, looking for him. Thereâs no way he could sneak his way out unless he had someone on the inside helping him, or at least an ally.
âDo you have any idea where he might have gone?â I ask.
Dario shakes his head. âNo idea, but Sicily seems to be the most likely. What do you think?â
Sicily is the least likely. I have even more connections over there. The old bastard could have gone to Mexico. Even Russia would more likely welcome him with open arms than Sicily would. âHeâs not stupid enough to set foot in Sicily.â
Thereâs a knock on the door before it creaks open, and Luca walks in.
From the look on his face, I can already tell what he wants to say before he says it. âI know already.â
âAbout Salvatore sneaking out of the country?â
I nod. âDarioâs men beat you to sharing the information.â
Luca glances at Dario. âDamn! What do we do now, boss?â he asks. âWe can hunt that animal and kill him when we find him.â
I disagree with a shake of my head. I might be quick to anger, but I donât make rash decisions. I only make a move when Iâve thought everything through and decided what the best action will be.
The problem, however, is that I do not have time. With Vivienne and our unborn baby at risk, I need to get rid of anything that could hurt them. Salvatore is the biggest threat. No one can tell what that sneaky bastard is up to.
âWe canât hunt him yet.â
Both Dario and Luca stare at me with stunned expressions.
âThis might be a trap for all I can guess,â I explain, pressing a finger to my temple. âOr a distraction. Lead us to another direction while he prepares to strike when weâre the least prepared. Something tells me that asshole hasnât left the city.â
Itâs common sense. The entire city is heavily guarded by men who are on the watch for him. Some of my allies have their men looking for Salvatore as well. Leaving the city would be close to impossible in the situation he is in.
By pretending to leave New York, he thinks, weâll lower our guards, and he can escape or attack if heâs stupid enough to try.
Dario nods in agreement. âWeâll have to split then. Iâll have my men find out where Salvatore is atâ¦if heâs still in the city.â
âThat will do for now.â I shift my attention to Luca. âCall Lorenzo, have him check every flight and ships that has left the country the last couple of days.â
âYes, boss. Is there anything else youâd like me to do?â Luca asks.
âNo.â
âIâll get to it then.â He leaves the office.
Dario goes on about things I donât give a shit about; information about the drugs we supplied to Texas last week and all.
All I can think about is how to keep my family safe.
Vivienneâs gaze is pinned on me when I look up from my phone. Her brows are raised, and her forehead is marred with worry. âYou havenât touched your food.â
I glance down at the grilled chicken breast and mashed potatoes on my plate. Sheâs right; Iâve barely touched my food. Iâve been too busy making calls and replying emails; anything to help me find Salvatore.
Iâve been that way since Dario told me the news of Salvatoreâs disappearance this morning. I need to find the bastard before he comes up with a plan that could hurt the people I love and fuck with my entire life.
âSorry.â I drop my phone on the table and grab my fork. âI was busy with work.â
Vivienne exhales loudly before she eats a spoonful of her mashed potatoes. She wraps her fingers around the glass of water beside her and brings it to her mouth but pauses as the brink of the glass hits her lips. âItâs about Salvatore, isnât it?â
I donât try to hide it from her. Itâs better she knows the truth so she can be more careful. âHe left the city.â
Her reaction is perfect for the situation. Her jaw falls open, and her pupils dilate. âYou said you had men looking for him. How is that possible?â
I shrug. âBeats me. I have a feeling heâs still in New York, hiding around somewhere.â
âWhat do we do?â she asks, finally chugging down the glass of water.
âWe?â My brain lights up like a lamp as an idea crosses my mind. âYouâre all I care about. Youâll leave the country to Sicily until all of this is over.â
âSicily?â She scoffs. âWhy the hell do I need to go to Sicily?â
âBecause itâs the one place I know Salvatore canât reach you.â The mere thought of Salvatore hurting her makes me clench my fist. âIâll bring you back as soon as everything is over.
She drops her fork. âAnd if I donât want to go?â
âThis is not up for negotiation,â I tell her. âYouâre leaving tonight.â
She raises her hand. âWait! What if I leave in two days? I need to see my father⦠and Harper. Please.â
The way her usually bright eyes glow cloudy makes my chest constrict. I donât want her to leave. Scratch that; I donât think Iâll even be able to function properly without her here, but Iâd rather have her far away and safe than have her near and unsafe.
Still, I canât deny her the chance to see her father and her sister before she leaves. âFine. Iâll get everything ready for you. You leave in two days.â
