chapter 48: Cutlery Awards

Its the first school day and we have English 4th period.... Uggh but at least I have like 2 free periods and Natalie and Elliot are yet to come back which is unusual for Nat.

"Yo are you gonna eat that" Henry asked pointing at my plate of pancakes.

"You know what nah, I think I've had enough" I said emptying my plate into his.

"Thanks"

"Did you do your assignments" fay asked.

"Yeah I did"

"Good cause I really need to copy your..." She replied before getting cut off.

"You guys should hurry up with your meals, its almost time" Sophia said...I forgot she was food prefect.

"Scratch that, get up and leave" Rose our head girl said.

"Oh damn....time to accelerate" henry said chunking down his food while the rest of us got up to leave.

"See you there" Naomi said pecking him on the cheek.

We sat down on our usual sitting positions as we waited for the principal and I looked back searching for ash and saw him talking to Austin. I waved at him and he tapped ash pointing at me and he smiled to which I returned and faced front.

Finally I heard clinking of heels and we clapped as she approached the stage holding her white iPad...I don't know why we love this woman so much. She gave us her Grammy award smile and tapped the mic to check if it was ok.

"Good morning teachers and students" she greeted and we greeted back.

"I hope y'all had a wonderful break and its good to see you all back and looking healthy"she continued.

" I still have asthma" fay said and I smacked her leg glaring at her but Mrs king just chuckled.

"And I pray you don't get any attacks" she smiled.  "Anyway but its time to be serious, your 2nd CAT and end of term exams are coming up and we need to continue upholding one of the best results in Abuja" she said and we clapped our hands.

"Maybe this time we would conquer West End High academically" she said and most of the students hissed.

"Shuu what's our problem" I said baffled.

"They are just sickening" Naomi said.

"Swear, they're so uptight and always think they're better than us" Caleb supported.

"But outside school they are actually nice...most sha" favour shrugged.

"Ha ha lol I know right, you know I actually think the teachers write their exams for them or maybe fake results or favouritism who knows. This is Nigeria" Mrs king said and we laughed.

"Speaking of W.E.H, they're gonna be visiting our school soon for 'healthy interactions' " she air quoted and we groaned.

Damn the hate is much

"Yeah! Don't worry its gonna be fun, the first part is just the two schools basically hanging out then some debates,spelling bees and quizzes then the extracurricular activities like football and basketball matches would also be held" she said and we clapped

"Anyway more info would be given as the event draw nearer" she said scrolling through her iPad. "Oh how could I forget, I have some very exciting news, drum roll please" she said excited and we all drummed on our laps then stopped.

"The exchange programme" she revealed and most cheered while I just smiled not knowing what it meant.

"What's the exchange programme" I asked Caleb.

"Listen you'll know" he said.

"For those that don't know what the exchange programme is...its an event we have where 60 students(10 from each class) from our school spend nearly a week at another and live like they actually attend the school with their uniforms and shit" she said.

"Wow that's cool" I commented.

"And the school we're exchanging with this session is....please don't kill me" she said whispering the last part. "West End High" she revealed and we were all silent.

"I ain't going"  someone from the back said and everyone started protesting.

"Hold on, I knew this kind of thing would happen so people are going to be chosen, there are no buts. The names would be announced sometime soon" she said slightly annoyed and went on with scrolling through her tab.

"Final announcement, I'm giving you a sneak peek on this info. There would be an excursion outside the country next term, we don't know the country yet but I'm just giving you a heads up,more info would be released towards the end of the term" she finalized .

"That would be all, you can retire to your classes" she said leaving the stage and we filed out to our classes.

Second period and I could barely keep my head up. "Ok class you can submit your assignments now" the maths teacher said and I stood up submitting mine and she was gone.

"Thank God... 3rd period DP, I ain't going" I said.

"Me too, all we ever do is basically copy notes from the systems and gist anyway" favour said.

"Swear, wake me up when Miss Ngozi comes in" Caleb said.

"As for me, I'm going to complete my note then play computer games or browse something" henry said taking his note, pen and ruler from his locker.

"I'm after you" I quickly said.

"Shit, after you" favour quickly said referring to me.

"Uggh I got to bok faster, favour I'm with you or after you abeg" he says and places he's head on his table trying to sleep.

"Ok no p Ann then favour then caleb" Henry chuckled walking out but as soon as he opened the door, he came face to face with a grinning Natalie.

"Yo Nat welcome back" he said hugging her.

"Thanks"

"Bitchhhh!!!" Favour screamed. "Baby" I squealed as we ran to hug her.

"Besties" she replied hugging us. "How I've missed y'all" she said.

"Like wise"

"Where is Caleb" she asked.

"Over there" we pointed at him and she walked over kissing his cheek.

"Welcome back" he said holding her neck for her to kiss him again and she sat on the nearest seat.

"Aren't you meant to be in class" I asked.

"Yeah but I have CRS now, so I'll rather hang out here" she smiled and I rolled my eyes.

"So gist me what happened during your break, I'm dying for some Nalliot abi Nallie gist" say said scotching beside her ready for the gist.

"Ok so.." She started.

"Its true caleb how far that butterfly you said you met" Naomi asked eating her Cheerios.

"Oh Amanda" Henry teased wiggling his brows.

"Shut up" Caleb said embarrassed.

"Yeah, I saw her. She's hot" fay assured.

"Abeg gist me, I don't know the girl" Nat whined.

"Okay so after her performance..." He started.

Flashback

I was backstage looking for her when I finally saw her smiling with her friends probably talking about their amazing performance and I approached them.

"Excuse me ladies" I said catching their attention. "Do you mind if I take your friend" I smiled at her and they looked at each other and nodded for me to go ahead.

"Hey" I said tucking my hands into my pockets once we were out of their sight.

"Aww he waited" she smiled.

"Yeah, its way passed my leaving time...anyway you looked amazing while dancing" I said.

"Thanks...hold on let me take off these heels my feet are killing me" she said taking off her heels and reduced by like 3 inches.

"So I think my time here is limited so could I have your number, so you know we could talk more" I said rubbing the nape of my neck.

"Aww your so cute, of course let me just go get my phone" she said taking a step so she could walk over when she tripped a little.

"Oh sorry" I said catching her. "Be careful, I don't want you falling for me" I smirked.

"Oh my God, nah that just won me over" she said walking to her purse and getting back.

"So how old are you" she asked handing me her phone while I gave her mine.

"16" I replied

"Cool I'm 15 and from Rivers" she said.

"Anambra" I smiled and we laughed.

"Done" she beamed and called and her phone rang.

"Hey pretty butterfly" I said answering the phone.

"Hey Caleb, guess you should get going, I'll talk to you later" she said.

"Ok no p bye" I said hanging up and she did the same and we looked at each other before laughing

Present

"And from then we have been chatting every night" Caleb finalised.

"Aww monkey found a zoo friend and she's a butterfly" I laughed.

"Anyway that's cute but we better get going, break is almost over" fay said and we got up to go to our classes.

Wednesday, I'm  sitting on nat's bed with her lying next to me already prepared while i tied my shoelace when the bell rang and she got up.

"Well I'm ready bye" nat said flipping her hair.

"And nay is still in the bathroom, poor her" I giggled taking my bag, as if on cue nay barged in with her dripping body.

"Hurry up, you have like a minute before she starts counting" I adviced while she quickly wore her underwear.

"Yeah I know that, you guys shouldn't sly me o" she warned.

"Of course not, we're all in this together" I said singing the last part but still took tiny steps towards the door.

"See this idiot o, abeg no be me and you" nat said leaving but Naomi was already in her shorts and shirt now she's looking for her glasses.

"Girls come downstairs for prep 10" Melissa shouted.....shit

"Found them" nay beamed.

"Quick put something on your damn legs" I said.

"9...8" she continued to count.

"Ok which shoes" she meditated.

"Pick one dummy, I'm not cleaning their hostel with you" I panicked.

"Fuck it I'm wearing crocs" she finally chose and slipped them on.

"7...6"

"Let's go" I said grabbing her hand and we bolted down the stairs.

"5...4"

"We're not gonna make it" I said as we're only half way there.

"3..2........1"

"We can, she's gonna count again" nay said as we're almost there.

"Yeah but faster" I said in a duhh tone.

"Again girls come downstairs for prep, 10...9...8...7" she continued.

"We made up...oh lord no" I said as we reached the gate just to see a bunch of girls blocking the way.

"Quick the other gate. Its farther but we can make it" nay said and we sprinted towards the other gate.

"6...5...4"

"Damn my crocs" nay said as one of her crocs pulled off and she went back to get it.

"3...2...1..0" Lisa finalised and jammed the first gate closed.

"We're just 10 seconds away from the other gate" I announced but there was another person waiting for Lisa's signal to close it and she looked at her.

Once she nodded at her, she opened the gate wide to jam it but we no gree.

"Noo" nay and I said and collided with the gate making the gate bounce back almost hitting the senior's face.

"Oh my God, do you want to kill me" she exclaimed shocked but we just said sorry and walked our way to study hall, which is like a library but we have the main library.

"Your lucky" Lisa laughed and we smiled at her...she can be fun a times .

Once we got there we parted ways so that nay could stay with the rest of the gang while I prep with Bella but as usual she comes late so I sit alone on our small table for 4.

Taking out my notes and textbooks, I get started with my assignments when someone pulls a chair opposite me a few moments later.

"Hi Bella" I said but the person just took the hand I was using to write.

"Its not Bella" Ash said and I grinned at him.

"Hey babe what's up" I asked.

"Nothing, about to get my economics on, but just wanted to see bae first" he said kissing my hand and I couldn't help but blush.

"Nice seeing you too, but I have lots of work to cover" I smiled pointing at my stack of textbooks.

"Kk, I won't distract you. I'm just gonna be here till Bella comes and maybe still stick around a little" he said making me roll my eyes.

"Whatever"

"Hey princess" Bella said petting me before taking a seat beside me.

"Hi"

"Oh thank God your here...I need you for my book keeping, I didn't quite understood, I was a little distracted" ash said.

"More Like you  slept through out the whole period" she scoffed.

"Whatever just help me" he said handing over his books to her.

After like 2hours ash and Bella we're done with whatever and popped out some novels to read while I still had one last assignment, seniors don't get as much work as the others....Lucky.

"Stop looking at me" I smiled and he dropped his book

"How could you see that" he asked baffled but I just shrugged.

"Super powers...I can feel your stare" I giggled.

"Weirdo" he commented.

Ash could not just stay on his own couldn't he, he started distracting me with his toes.

"Ash stop" I said moving my legs.

"I ain't doing anything" he defended and I looked under the table.

"Then why are your feet out of your shoes"

"Its Bella" he said and she just glanced at him through her novel and ignored us.

"Lee stop" I said and finally took my feet out and stepped on his feet keeping them in place. We were like that for sometime till he got fed up.

"Uggh, I'm done with this stupid novel, I'll continue at night" he said packing his books and resting his head on the table.

"Eyaa, just sleep" I said playing with his hair as he slowly drifted off.

The girls and I are on the table waiting for the boys to arrive so we could get started with our meals when Caleb took a seat next to me and henry next to Nay.

"Fav my spoon" Caleb asked.

"I know stupid I'm coming" she said taking a spoonful of fried rice into her mouth then searched her bag.

"How come most guys don't keep their cutlery themselves" I asked.

"Because boys are careless and loose them easily" nay said handing henry his with a kiss.

"Thanks" he replied her digging in.

"Yeah and its like a mini honour for a boy to give you their cutlery, your giving then the key to one of their loves, food... It determines the closeness, a whole new degree of friendship" fay informed.

"I've not started holding Elliot's cutlery and it doesn't bother me" Nat said.

"Yeah me neither, its stupid" I supported.

"Yeah" she said. "I want to hold his cutlery" she whispered.

"Me too" I admitted and the rest started laughing.

"Lol nat ,Elliot's fork is with Ella, your lucky she might hand it over but Liam's is with Sophia, I'm sorry to say but you might never get it" fay said.

"Bummer" I said defeated.

"Ann!!" Sophia yelled.

Lord must she do this now

"Coming" I said then got up

On my way there I looked around and at the big four table, asher wasn't even there yet but they could care less about me right now.

"Yes" I said making my presence known as I got there. It wasn't Sophia's usual table. It was just her, Lisa and Rose this time.

"Sit down" Sophia said and I was kinda scared.

"What!...why is she sitting down" Lisa asked.

"Cause I'm talking to her" she said in a duhh tone but she just scoffed rolling her eyes then she smiled at me.

"Go get your food, I wanna talk to you" Sophia said and I went back to get my food.

"What did she want" they asked as I got back.

"Apparently... To talk" I said and they looked at each other confused, I know I'm confused too.

"Hey where's my chicken" I said but they just acted like they didn't hear. I noticed caleb had more than usual then smacked the back of his head.

"What the hell...this is Nat's" he whined rubbing his head.

"Yeah that I collected from her plate" she laughed but I just took my chicken and left.

I walked back to her table and sat infront of Sophia who distant herself from Lisa already, thank God and next to Rose whom I'm already friends with.

"So you must be curious about why I called you" she said eating her Rice.

"Yeah I'm a tad curious" I lied...I'm a lot curious.

"Well I just wanted to apologize" she said nonchalantly and Melissa dropped her spoon while Rose almost chocked on her rice.

"Oh come on don't be so dramatic, as if I've never apologized" she said offended.

"Because you've not...oh this must be good" rose said resting her chin on her palm grinning at us like where in the middle of a telenovela.

"Yeah you caught me off guard, now I'm interested" Lisa said also listening.

"Anyway" she continued rolling her eyes. "I know we started off wrongly but I was just emm....what word is that"

"Jealous" Lisa snickered.

"Yeah that...Ash and I have been friends since he entered the school but after you came he wouldn't shut up about you and well I got tired of it...and now y'all are dating so I wish you guys the best" she smiled and they started laughing.

"What's so funny" I mouthed to Sophia.

"They're crazy" she mouthed back.

"Anyway thanks.... I always saw you as a nice person inside tho, ash talked about you too" I said.

"Yeah and now that that's settled" she said digging into her pocket. "This is his spoon, I've been holding for like 2years now and I'm tired, its in your care now and don't loose it, he gets angry." She said handing me the tiny golden spoon.

"Wow what an honour" I said holding it like I just won the Oscars and they chuckled.

"I would like to thank my parents for bringing me to this school, my dear husband Liam for always being there for me and our 4 kids but I would like to thank God most of all" I said giving a speech with my spoon and they started Laughing like crazy.

As if on cue ash came from behind not noticing me.

"Hey girls, Sophie my spoon" he said but she just gestured towards me.

"Its in her hands now, don't meet me for it again" she said and he looked at me shocked.

"What the hell are you doing here, are you alright, are you in trouble" he asked worried.

"Nah, just having girl talk...here's your spoon" I said giving it to him with a smile.

"Okay right thanks...talk to you later" he said kissing my cheek then Sophia's.

"Bye" he waved off and left.

The girls and I continued talking and their actually pretty dope to talk to.

I'm just trying to hurry up and enter sealed walls so sorry if you don't like some of the chapters tho.

Lol the cutlery awards, stupid right. Anyway whose school used to count for them to get out...I'm always part of those they count for
