Chapter 25: Visiting day

Mass was shorter than ever and we waited anxiously in hostel because we're not allowed in hall till the PTA is over by 1pm.

"Mass was short today" I stated.

"Yeah its normally like that on visiting days" fay said.

"So what do we do now" I asked.

"Anything. You can go outside but not hall nor class, TV room, hostel, play, whatever till your parents come or PTA is over which ever comes first" she informed.

"Let's play whot" Nay beamed.

"Jackpot" I shouted.

"Donkey" Nat squealed.

"Bullshit" fay yelled.

"Normal whot" Nay said with a duhh tone.

"Your dry" Nay commented and we laughed.

"Ok there's only one way to settle this" I said dramatically.

"Which is" Nay asked.

"Drum roll please.......rock- paper- scissors." I said.

"Hmm seems fair" they said .

I played with nay while fay and nat did theirs and fay and nay emerged winners of the first round and they played each other and fay won.

"Yay so bullshit it is" fay squealed.

*Asher's POV *

Shortly after mass ended, parents started coming in and the hall was half packed, so we started the PTA early.

I said the welcome speech and James & I did our presentations on how to improve the school, pff as if it needs improvement. Future trips and events, etc with the help of graphs, charts, projectors and other shit.

Musical presentations also held, then all the students invited left to allow the adults talk and we went to hostel.

* Ann's POV *

I was the first one out for like 3 games now cause I didn't understand the game well. Lol nah I was just shitty at it but it was getting annoying.

"Hey guys do you want to play with the big 4" I thought out loud

"Why because your losing" nat teased.

"No I just feel its brighter outside" I defended.

"I'm cool with it" fay said.

"Yh whatever me too" Nat said.

"Thank you" I said with a smug look.

"Ase ! wait slow down our relationship with them is still rocky" Nay said

"What are you talking about" I said.

"Well... since when do we talk to the big 4" she asked.

"Well Austin's my brother" fay defended.

"Yh and Elliot's well my something" nat said.

"Yeah and James is a cool friend and Asher is well my master I guess" I said.

"And who do I have" Nay said.

"Our setboys especially Henry" I said wiggling my brows. I've been on to them.

"And the big 4 like you too" fay said.

"No I'm not playing with them" nay said sternly. "Maybe some other time" she deadpanned

"Uggh ok whatever let's just go outside" I said defeated and we went to change.

I wore  denim ripped jeans, a white v neck crop top, the school's long sleeve button shirt on top and adidas shoes, tied a bandana round my bun and headed out.

Nat wore a black cropped adidas hoodie, a Nike cap, blue jeans and adidas shoes.

Fay wore red & white shirt, jeans, black shoe, black Bernie and platinum shades.

And last but not the least Nay wore a pink mickey mouse sweatshirt, black jeans, black high tops and and a pink bag.

We all stood in front of boy's hostel looking for someone to call Henry and monkey for us and finally someone passed.

"Hey" I called out to the boy and he looked at me.

"Please could you kindly call Caleb and Henry for us" I said. "And if henry refuses say Naomi is here" I added and she looked at me like really nigga.

"Sure" the boy said. "What's your name" he asked and Asher passed shirtless behind him which distracted me a little, we made brief eye contact and I could almost die when he smiled and left. then nay elbowed me.

"What, oh right. My name is Ann and with me are favour, Naomi and Natalie. Please tell them to meet us in caf" I said and the boy went for his errand.

* Asher's POV *

I was on varander when I heard Ann's voice and I passed, she was asking for Caleb & Henry.

I walked to their hostel which was near mine and stood there. The boy she sent came and I stopped him. "Don't bother I've called them" I lied.

"Thanks" he said and left.

"Oh wait for the surprise" I thought  chuckling  lowly and went to change.

*Ann's POV *

I've been waiting for Caleb and Henry for like 10mins now and I decided to bend my head and shut me eyes a little. Shortly after someone started poking my cheek and I looked up expecting to see Caleb but it was James and not only him but also the rest of the bad boys.

Asher was smirking at me. Bastard. but he looked hot with his designer bag and watch and he's wearing studs.

"What are you doing here" I said surprised and slightly annoyed.

"Relax ash said you invited us" James said and I looked at ash but he just shrugged.

"What I did have any good reason to get them downstairs" he defended.

"Yeah and we were happy to come" James smiled at me and Elliot was quick to seat next to Nat.

"What of henry and monkey" I asked with a pout.

"Who is monkey" the boys asked.

"Its my nickname for Caleb... Cute right" I said.

"More like Barf" Ash said and I rolled my eyes.

"Swr" nat and fay laughed and I just rolled my eyes.

"You guys are just jealous of our love" I defended.

"I can see we have whot" Austin said.

"Yeah we were meant to play it with them" nay said irritated.

"Well you can equally play it with us" he said back and she rolled her eyes.

"So what are we playing"

"Jackpot, bullshit, normal whot, donkey" nay, fay, nat and I said at the same time.

"Hmm seems like we can't decide" asher said.

"Well I don't want to play anything with you" I shot.

"Sorry babe I own you" he smirked and I scoffed.

"Bitch" I muttered and whispered something to James beside me. "Make them play jackpot".

" we're playing jackpot " James said.

"But I like donkey" ash whined.

"Don't be a pussy ash, we're playing jackpot" he said sternly.

"Fine" he scoffed.

"Good so its settled ,pick your partners and make your signs" Elliot said  and I quickly took James to the side. Fay was with her bro, nat was obviously with Elliot and asher was with Nay.

A/N: whot is a card game popularly known in Nigeria and it can be divided into different games eg bullshit, the original whot, donkey,jackpot,etc. In the case of jack pot, you have a partner who you would make a secret sign with and when that's decided you pass a card and when the cards you have in your hands are the same shape you give the sign to your partner and that person says jackpot giving them a point  which is spelling out jackpot letter by letter and yes the partners have to seat opposite each other facing themselves.

"So what's our sign" I beamed excitedly.

"Flirting" he smirked.

"What" I asked confused.

"Flirting... Its gonna be dope just work with it" he said.

"OK" I said and we walked back to the table. We sat opposite our partners, shared the card and started the game.

I hand the passing card so I passed it on and after some time of passing nat said jackpot. The fuck how could I not notice, and Elliot showed his cards then exchanged.

"Ann I like the way your hair is packed" James said.

"Thank you" I said a waited a little so I won't be suspected. "Jack pot" I said and James showed his cards and we high fived.

"Elliot did you remember to keep my book back" ash asked.

"What book" he asked confused.

"Jackpot" nay squealed and ash showed his cards.

"Good job nay" he complimented.

* Asher's POV *

We have been playing for like 30 mins now and this was actually fun. Team Elliot and Natalie were on JAC. Naomi and I were on JACK PO. So were James and Ann, and Austin and fay were on JACK. We were tied and remaining one letter before we have a winner.

James has been looking at Ann like she was dinner, biting his lips and smirking. What the fuck is wrong with this guy. But Ann was just focused on her cards. Then she finally looked us and he released his lip then winked at her and she smiled in amusement, they have been doing that for a while. Then it clicked to my head and before I could say suspect she shouted.

"JACKPOT !!!" She jumped then James showed his cards smirking then stood up.

"Mic dropped" he said and Ann ran into his arms celebrating.

Then someone smacked my head hard and I looked.

"What the hell is wrong with you" nay  said. "I had all four triangles but you didn't look at me to give you the sign....that would have been us celebrating" then she went back to her seat.

"I'm sorry" I said to her and looked back at James and Ann, they were still hugging and smiling at each other. Eww.

* Ann's POV *

"Hey winner" I said.

" what's up winner" he grinned.

"We make a great team" I said

"Yes we do" he replied then a boy, I guess he's a freshman came to us and said something.

" em excuse me are you Ann " he asked.

"The one and only" I replied.

"Cool, a teacher told me to tell you to go to hall cause your mum is here" he said.

"Yay" I squealed. And we walked back to the others.

" hey guys my mum is here" I announced.

"Oh wow, we should better head to hall" Nat said.

"Yeah...Trevor" ash called the poor boy back and he stood in front of ash.

"Go to my locker, if its locked check my blazer pocket for the key, check the back lower part of my extra locker for a blow horn, bring it" he instructed.

"Oouu can I blow it" he beamed.

" sure but put it back" he said.

"Why do you need a blow horn" I asked but he ignored me.

"Its a faster way of saying get down boys and go to hall for visiting day" James  said.

"Oh...sha let's go girls...bye boys, fuck you Liam" I said

"Soon babe soon" he said and we left

We bounced into hall like celebrities and I immediately saw my mom chatting with Nat's mum wearing her pink and white flowery ankra long gown and gele. Although she's half British ,she loves her trad.

I took Nat's hand and ran to our moms.

"Hi mum" I greeted my mum jumping in front of her and nat greeted hers.

"Good afternoon Mrs Thompson" I greeted Nat's mum.

"Please dear call me Bridget or mama chioma" she said and I smiled.

"Good afternoon ma" fay and nay greeted out mums. We all exchanged pleasantries and they both left while nat and I had visiting day together.

"So kids see what we brought you" my mum said and revealed bags and coolers of food including Eba and soups, fufu, chocolate, two rows of pure bliss(24),etc.

"And see what you dads bought you as sorry for not coming gestures" Nat's mum said revealing two iPhone 8+.

Nat and I screamed our hearts out and celebrated.

"Thank you so much" we squealed.

"Don't thank us thank your dads...and I got you the white case since you like white" my mum said.

"And I got you a black case since you like black" Nat's mum said.

"Now call your dads" Nat's mum said handing us our old iphone 7s to call them, which we did and they were very pleased. We ate and chatted a lot and after about 3hrs they left.

* Asher's POV *

Elliot and I were walking around since Austin went to meet his parents and we decided to sit in front of hall and waited. Shortly after Elliot's parents came for him then he went to meet them, "see you later bro" he said and left.

I was sitting alone looking at the school gate waiting when I saw what looked like my mom's car but I waved it off. Some minutes later I saw a woman who looked like my mum wearing blue jeans with a white top and sneakers.

"That can't be my mom right?...she's  meant to be in Dubai by now" I thought.

"Its probably her still trying to reach out to you" SC said.

"But I don't want her to" I mentally spat.

"You know you miss and love her" SC said.

"Yeah" I said defeated.

"So why don't you accept her" SC said

"Cause it's so difficult" I said.

"Well..." SC tried said.

"Asher" a lady said bringing me back to reality.

"Mom" I said in awe but a little bit off

"Hey baby" she said grinning with her white teeth and dimples.

"Where's dad" I asked and her smile dropped.

"He couldn't make it and I wanted to see you...your still my love" she said becoming soft.

"Well I don't want to see you and I wish I could say the same about you" I said harshly.

"Look I'm sorry, everyone makes mistakes , I love you. Your dad has forgiven me so why can't you" she said.

"Let's go inside I'm hungry" I said tired and I took the bags and found  a space inside. I formed a small circle close to Elliot's family and set everything up while she went to greet the Baymen's.

* Ann's POV *

Nat decided to see the Baymen's and I followed her. Elliot's parents are really cool and his little 10yr old sister angel is so dark and pretty. We chatted and laughed when a gorgeous fair woman with light curls and dimples came to say high.

"Who's she" I elbowed Elliot.

"Asher's mum" he replied and I chocked on my drink.

They all looked at me but I just smiled sweetly and she went back to Asher.

Asher's mom above.

*Asher's POV *

She brought all my favorites from the soups to Rice to pure bliss, she was always a great cook. And I didn't waste time to dig in.

She eventually came back and it was awkward. I didn't want to talk to her.

"I can see you like the food" she said

.

"I'm hungry" I lied, I really missed her food.

Gele is a type of head tie.

Ankra is an african fabric designed with different patterns.

Chioma is a popular female name in Nigeria. And mama chioma is like saying mummy chioma as in the mother of chioma.
