Chapter 74
Secret Billionaire’s Contract Bride: Marrying My Enemy’s Lover
Chapter 74
After security handled my brother and threw him out on his a ss I made sure to check on Corinna. I had
found her curled up in the corner of her room hyperventilating. It had taken me over thirty minutes of
me trying to calm her down. But even after her body was still shaking. I knew that she was likely in
some form of shock.
After she started crying again, I called my personal doctor to come over and he was over within twenty
minutes. He was able to give her a sedative that knocked her out. I had never seen her so broken
before in my entire life. She looked like a deer in headlights and I would be lying if I said it didnât touch
my heart in some way. The girl had been a bi tch but she didnât deserve any of this. No one deserved to
have to live under the tyranny of a man like Ashton.
I knew that Adelaide didnât want to ask for her help but after what happened today, I needed to do
something. She would want me to do something. I had tried to call her but as expected my wife was still
avoiding me.
So I did the next best thing and decided to call someone for help. I called Angela and that was how she
ended up sitting in my kitchen with a coffee mug in her hands. I had a glass of scotch in one hand and
an ice pack over my knuckles.
The anger had dwindled and now all that was left were the little. remnants that lingered behind.
âAre you okay?â she finally broke the silence that had enveloped us.
âNo.â I stared out the window. âThis is all so f ucked up. You should have seen him, Angela.â
There were parts of me that wanted to finish off my brother but I knew The focus now was to
disconnect Ashton from my sister-in-law. The lawyer we had hired was useless and Angela worked at
the best firm in the state.
that would only add to my problems.
had the resources to help her and I would do what I needed to. Adelaide wanted me to be kinder to her
sister and this was me extending my kindness. I only hoped that when she learned what I did she
would understand.
âYou should have seen her. She looked terrified out of her mind.â I
couldnât get the blood-curdling scream she let out when I tried to hold her. Her entire body shook
violently and she only fully calmed when the doctor arrived. âThereâs more than we know that went on
back in Vegas between the two of them.â
My brother was a master manipulator and he knew how to get to people. He had done it with my wife
and now he was doing it with Corinna. She didnât deserve this kind of pain at all.
âI wish you would have told me sooner.â I could feel her eyes on me but I kept my gaze forward. âI
actually havenât heard from you in a while, I was starting to think I had offended you in some way.â
It wasnât me who she had offended but that didnât matter. What mattered was making sure that Corinna
got the help that she needed.
âCan you help her?â I took a sip of the scotch, allowing the liquid to burn my throat. It was ten in the
morning and I was drinking hard liquor. I was by no means an alcoholic but it made this situation
somewhat bearable. âShe needs to get rid of this as shole and I need the process to be as quick and
efficient as possible.â
âIâm more than happy to help but I think itâs only fair you give me an explanation, Damon. You just went
ghost on me. You didnât respond to my texts or calls. Did I do something to upset you?â
I looked at her through my peripheral, giving her a side-eye. âI wasnât trying to be a di ck. I was only
trying to make my wife feel more comfortable.â
I watched her shoulders tense momentarily before they relaxed. âSo it was Adelaide then?â
I nodded.
âShe hates me?â
This time I turned to her. âShe doesnât hate you. But she just feels like you are trying to get a little too
close to me.â
Her eyebrows pulled together into a frown. âClose to you? Like I want to steal you from her?â
Her reaction was one of complete shock and confusion.
Maybe my wife had been wrong. Maybe she didnât like me the
she said she did after all.
way that
âI donât mean to offend you, Damon. But after my ex, I donât know how long itâs going to take for me to
feel anything for anyone else.â She smiled sadly. âAnd if I ever made you feel uncomfortable in any way
shape or form Iâm so-â
âNo, donât apologize. I told Adelaide that it was nothing of the sort but I guess she was just feeling â¦
protective over me.â I sighed, bringing all my attention back to my drink. âI used to have a play boy
reputation and it was hard for her when we first got together. I just didnât want to give her any reason to
feel uncomfortable. Im sure you can understand why I did what I did.â
âWhy you look like a man whoâs been kicked
She shook her head. âIs tha
in the groin?â
One thing about Angela that didnât escape my notice was the fact that she was very perceptive and
able to read people with ease. It was quite refreshing to not have to put on a face and act happy when I
clearly
wasnât.
âPartly.â This had been one of the worst fights that Adelaide been in. âI messed up and said something
stup id.â
and

She hummed in agreement. âI donât mean to intrude, but did this have anything to do with the article of
her and Gabriel?â
âYou saw that?â Well, I guess the world saw it. I had hoped that somehow it hadnât had such a big
reach. But what was I to expect? The movie she was working on was going to be a global
phenomenon. All eyes were on her and the cast.
She nodded.
âSo, I can help Corinna. But what would she think of me helping you now? Wonât she get upset seeing
me in your house?â
I opened my mouth to respond but the sound of my wifeâs voice beat me to it.
âIâm debating on how I currently feel,â Adelaide said.
There she stood in the archway of the kitchen with her arms crossed over her chest. Her eyes werenât
looking at me but rather the woman I had invited into our home. âHello, Angela. What a surprise to see
you here⦠again.â
I could tell from her tone alone that she was less than pleased with
Chapter 74
Angelaâs presence here. And I was yet again in hot water.
âBaby.â I stood from my seat.
This was the first time I was seeing her after our fight. The pressure in my chest released a little from
simply being in her presence.
Her eyes moved to mine slowly, almost painstakingly slow. There was no warmth in them. All I got from
her was nothing but a blank stare.
I knew her mind was turning. She had made it clear how she felt about this woman and we had even
gotten into a fight about her. And now I had brought her here. Maybe I had jumped the gun a little too
early. Maybe I should have waited and spoken to her first.
âWhy is she here, Damon?â
I only prayed that the next thing that came out of my mouth didnât destroy us even further.
