I Quit Mr. Shaffer ( Isabella Symons ) Chapter 175
I Quit, Mr. Shaffer ( Isabella Symons )
Chapter 175
Poppy held onto both Isabella and Gordon, growing more fond of them by
the moment. âWhen are you two getting married?â
Isabella was taken aback by the older womanâs question. Her expression
instantly stiffened, and she turned towards Gordon, signaling him to clarify
quickly.
However, Gordon was unwilling to explain. Knowing Isabellaâs temperament,
he didnât want to strain their relationship. âGrandma, Iâm only 24. Why rush into
marriage?â
With a warm smile, Poppy said to several wealthy ladies, âThis young man is
in no hurry at all.â
Realizing that they didnât recognize Isabella, the ladies understood that she
might not come from an affluent family. Looking at Arielâs expression, they
also knew what to do.
They changed the topic, diverting Poppyâs attention from the subject of
marriage. However, she still held onto Isabellaâs hand and didnât let her go.
Modestly, Isabella presented a bracelet she had prepared. âI donât know what
your preferences are. I apologize if this gift isnât good enough.â
Poppy, who came from a humble background, was very down-to-earth.
When she saw Isabellaâs gift, she smiled with appreciation. âYouâre really
considerate. Gordon is lucky to have you.â
Isabella forced a laugh, feeling nervous. She could only let Poppy hold her
hand.
Several ladies followed Poppyâs lead, taking turns to praise Isabella, and the
atmosphere in the room became pleasant. Isabella felt anxious, afraid that
Poppy would take her out and introduce her to others.
Just as she was in a dilemma, a servant knocked on the door.
Ariel went to answer and heard the servant whispering, âMr. Shaffer has
arrived. Mr. Dunkstein asks for you and Mr. Gordon to come down together.â
Isabella didnât hear anything else, but being sensitive, she caught the name
âMr. Shaffer.â
Gordon frowned upon hearing the name, and he quickly stood up.
However, Poppy didnât understand the situation. âGordon?â
Frowning, he looked at his mother. âMom, you should go. Iâll stay with
Grandma.â
Ariel glared at him and then leaned down to whisper to Poppy, âMom, an
important guest has arrived. Xavier is asking Gordon to go down.â
Poppy, hearing the words âimportant guest,â didnât hesitate and patted
Gordonâs hand. âGo down now. Donât keep your father waiting.â
While saying this, she still held onto Isabellaâs hand.
Gordonâs expression changed slightly. He turned away with a stern face, not
forgetting to remind Isabella, âWait for me.â
Feeling uncomfortable crouching for so long, Isabella forced a smile. âOkay.â
With that, Gordon followed his mother downstairs.
In the room, only Poppy and a few wealthy ladies remained. Isabella noticed
that although they continued talking with Poppy, they seemed distracted.
The name âMr. Shafferâ indeed carried weight.
Though Isabella was uncertain if it was Seth, she couldnât help but be anxious.
While conversing with Poppy, she almost zoned out.
âGordon has a temper. Dear, you must be patient with him.â
Oh no, thatâs the tone of talking to a granddaughter-in-law.
In distress, she tried to answer diplomatically, âNo, Gordon has a good
temper. Itâs hard to find a friend like him.â
However, Poppy didnât catch her hint; she just smiled. âYou two have such a
good relationship.â
Her comment left Isabella speechless.
âOld Mrs. Dunkstein, we should also go,â someone reminded Poppy.
Suddenly reminded, Poppy hastily excused herself. While excusing herself,
she continued to hold Isabellaâs hand and walked out of the room.
In a panic, Isabella wanted to retract her hand; otherwise, it would be difficult
to explain later. But Poppy seemed genuinely fond of her, holding on tightly
and leading her out.
Isabella glanced around the hall and immediately recognized a certain
personâs back.
To be precise, everyoneâs attention wasnât on Poppy but on the man who had
suddenly appeared.
Xavier was the middle-aged man who had bought the car from Isabella that
day. Today, he was in a suit, but he still looked plain. Beside Seth, he looked
like a subordinate.
Isabella couldnât even lift her head, her mind spinning. Just as they were
about to reach the last flight of stairs, she gave a slight tug on Poppyâs hand.
âGrandma, I need to use the restroom.â
Without thinking much, Poppy quickly let go. âGo quickly. Do you know the
way?â
Isabella nodded repeatedly. Finally, she retreated at the very last minute, just
before entering everyoneâs view. Avoiding the crowd, she walked backward
slowly and successfully entered the corridor.
Phew. That was close.
She patted her chest, looking around. Unfamiliar with the villa layout, she
could only walk randomly.
Molly had disappeared since they entered, most likely already close to
completing her mission.
Isabella sent a message to Molly, asking her to take care and not put herself
in danger.
Unexpectedly, Molly replied with a sweating emoji, clearly indicating that she
understood.
Seeing that, Isabella felt helpless and realized she might be a bit paranoid.
She had actually prevented a professional from doing her job.
She put away her phone, hesitating about where to go.
Suddenly, the sound of high heels approached from behind.
âWith your status, itâs natural that you canât find your way when you come to a
place like this.â
