Chapter 58

Jesse had been silent until the saltwater was brought over. His eyes were cold and dark, without a glance at Nydia, only fixed on Andrew.

“All this is because of me. I married her, and I refused to divorce her. I’m the one who should be subject to the family rules. Come on, let’s get started.”

“No!” Nydia immediately stood up, wanting to push Jesse’s wheelchair but found it was locked. She became anxious and pleaded with Jesse in a low voice, “Jesse, please don’t do this!”

Her voice was filled with supplication, as if trying to coax him.

Jesse glanced at her coldly. “Get out of here.”

Nydia stubbornly stood by his wheelchair, not scared off by his bad attitude. He deliberately acted this way to hide his protective intentions towards her. She always misunderstood him in the past, precisely because of his character. He clearly had her best interests at heart, but his attitude made it hard for her to accept.

But now she understood and felt a sourness in her nose, causing her eyes to swell up.

“You better decide who is going to be subject to this family rule,” Andrew frowned, his tone still stern.

Rosalind grabbed his hand urgently and said, “We absolutely cannot use family rules against Jesse!”

“He brought this upon himself by being so headstrong. If he wants to take the lead, let him. It was his doing.” Andrew snorted.

“It’s settled. I’ll do it,” Jesse spoke again.

“No! Who gave you permission to come? This is the family rule that I should be subjected to, not you!” Nydia said anxiously. She returned to her original position and knelt down, “Dad, I’ll do it!”

Her back was straight, without any hint of backing down.

Sibley didn’t know who to help.

Nydia couldn’t handle the family punishment as a girl, but Jesse’s body hasn’t been good since the car accident and he can’t handle it either. However, neither of them expected that Nydia would refuse to let Jesse take her place. In the past, not only would Nydia willingly take the punishment, but she would also applaud and even buy firecrackers to celebrate if Jesse took the punishment. What’s going on today?
