Chapter 4
Lying to the Prince
Noah's POV
"Everything seems to be fine. The baby is developing quite fast, but it's not uncommon for situations like this. Because this is an unusual pregnancy, I would advise you to take leave from work sooner than later. I would also recommend taking it easy while you work. Other than that you are free to go." I thanked the doctor, standing up and pulling my shirt down as I left the clinic.
It was a sunny Saturday, and I was enjoying the peaceful silence as I headed home. After the collapsing incident, everything went smoothly. I got along well with Liam, more often than not. We managed to work out a sort of schedule and learned to work around one another in orderâ to get things done.
Luckily, the morning sickness had ended, and I was able to work without any interruptions.
"Hey! Noah! What's the schedule for today?" I glanced down at my planner. "You have a lunch meeting with the vice president of our partnering company in thirty minutes, and then another meeting to discuss profit marketing at six. After that your schedule is clear." Liam groaned, pulling at his tie. "Don't do that. It's just two one hour meetings. You'llâ live." I fixed his tie, leaning over him as well as I could.
Liam watched me carefully, his intent gaze making my cheeks burn with embarrassment. "What is it?" He said nothing, but his trance seemed to be broken as he looked away.
Straightening up, I cleared my throat. "Shall we get going? It's a fifteen minute ride to the restaurant, and I would hate to be late. Best to set an example." Liam chuckled. "Your morals are so different from mine. I wouldâ have arrived late and said 'at least I showed up.'" I shook my head. "Not anymore you won't. At least, not if I have anything to say about it."
I pulled Liam up from his chair, leading him to the parking lot. We entered the car, sitting silently as the chauffeur pulled the car out and took us to the meeting.
The large city ran passed my view as I watched the window. This incredible place had been my home now for about a month, but it still didn't feel real. I always imagined one day waking up, back in that little town, alone and not pregnant.
The thought made me shudder, my hand instinctively going to my stomach. "Noah? You okay?" I nodded, not trusting myself to speak. Liam looked skeptical, but said nothing else.
Finally, we arrived at the large hotel we were meeting at, it's large awning towering over us. Liam escorted me out of the car, to my dismay, and helped me inside the building. "Wouldn't want you to have any door troubles today." He said as he held the door open. I was tempted to retaliate when a voice called out to us. "Liam!"
A good looking man ran up to us, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "Daniel! How are you!" Liam was pulled into a hug, the two men laughing. I stopped. Daniel? Why did that sound so familiar?
When they pulled apart, a woman approached us. "Liam! So good to see you!" Her high pitched voice severely offset her beautiful looks as she smiled at Liam. "Dakota? What are you doing here?" She shrugged. "Daniel invited me." I waited behind Liam as he introduced them. "This is Daniel Vein, VP of our partnering company, and his sister, Dakota. This is Noah, my secretary."
They nodded at me, Dakota eyeing me carefully while Daniel studied me. "Noah? Hey, I know you! It's me! Daniel, remember?" I shook my head. "I'm afraid I don't remember." He pulled me aside. "Really? You don't remember the guy who treated you to dinner and listened to your pregnancy problems? Particularly regarding the father of the child?" Daniel gestured towards Liam.
"What do you mean? Why did you point towards Liam?" Daniel's eyes widened. "Noah, don't you remember? Liam is the father of your child."
