The Ritual To The Beast | ✓

Chapter 10.5

Thane's P.O.V

Emery was the most stubborn person I have ever met. I couldn't believe she attempted to runaway. Not to mention she came up with the delusional thought that I was going to sacrifice her. She definitely brought out my anger and my love for her.

I didn't tell her that she was wrong because if I did she would've insisted for the truth, which I wasn't ready to tell her, not yet.

But I knew if I didn't tell her soon I would lose her and I couldn't even bear the thought of such a thing.

When we pulled up to the pack house I knew I was going to be in some serious trouble. My parents' car was parked outside and if they only knew I haven't told her about me they would definitely disapprove.

I couldn't stop Emery though because she jumped out of the jeep before I even had a chance to park. "Emery wait!" I called out to her.

When I entered the house I wasn't surprised to see Emery in my mother's arm as my siblings all walked away.

It broke me to see her crying but I couldn't tell her the truth or else she would hate me.

"Are you alright dear?" My mother asked her as she placed both her hands on Emery's arms in a comforting hold.

"What did you do?" My mother asked in an accusing voice toward me. I looked at her guiltily.

"Mom now is not the time." I softly answered.

Emery stepped away from her hold and looked at her in horror and disgust. I knew what she was going to say and it was all because of what I had her believing.

"Do you know what your son is doing?" She asked. "Of course you do. With all due respect Mrs. Blackwood, I despise you people. How could you condone such a thing? You and your entire little town are just holding me here to sacrifice me. How could you allow your son to kidnap me and hold me here against my will while you all plan my sacrifice?"

My mother gave Emery a confused look before turning her gaze to me and glaring daggers while I looked at her guiltily. My anger increased towards Emery but how could I be angry when it's my fault she didn't know any better.

"Sweetie whatever Thane told you, you must have gotten it confused." She gently said looking at Emery.

"Your precious son didn't tell me anything. He forced me here and wouldn't even give me answers!" And there she goes again with me being her kidnapper.

"This is why you have the story wrong." She continued hastily.

"There isn't anything you can tell me that would be a reasonable excuse for why I'm here. As for your son, please tell him to leave me alone!" Emery finished her wrath and stormed upstairs.

My mother's eyes held such hurt and I knew Emery instantly regretted what she said to her. It hurt me to see my mate insult my mother to her face but if I had just told her the truth.

Giving Emery some needed space to cool off I turned to my mom.

"Mom-" I began but she cut me off.

"You haven't told her yet! What are you waiting for Thane? Haven't I raised you better than this?" She shouted at me. That's my mom for you.

"Mom I'm handling it." I simply said.

"You better be. I can't believe you have the poor girl believing that you plan on killing her. If your father had done that to me, I would've rejected him from day one." That last line felt like she threw a brick on my face.

Reality finally caught up to me and I knew she was right.

"You're right mom, I'm sorry. I should've came to you months before to help train me on winning over my girl." I said sheepishly rubbing the back of my neck.

"You sure should've." She said smiling as she wrapped her arm around mine and lead me to the kitchen.

I stopped her before we entered and said, "About what Emery said to you, she didn't mean it, if anything it's my entire fault. I'm sorry-"

"It's alright sweetie. I know that she didn't mean any of it and I understand how confused she is right now. After all I was in her position twenty years ago...and I was regretfully a bit ruder to your grandma." She offered a gentle smile.

"Thank you." I said grateful for my mother's kind heart.

As we entered the kitchen my father, Carson, was stuffing his face with cherry pie, something I learnt that Emery loves. My sister and brothers were all out in the backyard.

"Oh Carson, don't I feed you enough at home!" My mom smiled.

My father gave my mom a toothy grin before unwillingly leaving his pie. "Sorry dear." He moved over to her and gave her a hug. That was what I admired the most about my parents, they were still head over heels in love after twenty years, even though mates are usually like that, but my parents were different. I wanted that for Emery and myself.

"Honey, you must hear what Thane has done, or not done in this case." She told my father.

"Thanks for selling me out mom." I grumbled.

"Let me guess, he hasn't told her yet." My dad was spot on as he laughed at my deflated expression.

"Precisely, tell him that he needs to explain everything to her as soon as possible and not have her thinking he is going to kill her." My mom explained.

"Oh let the boy do it as he please, he will have to face that consequences after." He shrugged and I smiled until he said, "But what is it about her thinking you're going to kill her?"

Before I could get a word in, my mom cut me off, "He told her that he brought her here to sacrifice her to 'the beast'."

"What? That's the stupidest thing I've heard." My dad glared at me, "Thane you need to tell her in order for tradition to go on next twenty years."

"I know, I just need to make sure she doesn't reject me. Also I never told her that... I just didn't correct her."

"Oh Anne what are we going to do with him?" My father asked my mother.

"That's for him to deal with, just once he doesn't hurt her feeling." She said walking outside.

My father watched her leave until he motioned me to my office.

When we entered he began on my case, "Son, if it's one thing I learn about mates is that you tell them the truth as quickly as possible. Even though it may be scary, in our case, you have to tell her. The sooner she knows the better it will be for the both of you. She may think she hates you but she actually doesn't, deep down she has probably started falling for you already."

I sat down tired of just thinking about approaching her with what I had to tell her. "How do I start?"

My dad patted my shoulder as he sat next to me and told me it was up to me to decide.

After that we discussed a few of the pack businesses and basic training skills as well as the recent attack from the rouges.

My family left soon enough, leaving me to deal with Emery.

I walked up the stairs slowly dreading to face her wrath. I knocked on my room knowing she was in there. No answer so I kept on knocking. What if something was wrong with her?

"Emery, open the door." I yelled.

"Please Emery open the door." I begged when she didn't answer. "I wouldn't stop until you do!" I insisted.

"Emery? Emery! Open the damn door!"

I heard the doors to the patio closed so it brought me some relief.

"At least say something so I know you're alright. If you don't I swear I will break down the door." I called, still worried.

"I'm fine, you can drop your act now." She finally answered me.

I sighed in relief, "Thank god." Even though she insulted my interest in her I was grateful she at least answered me.

I heard the shower start so not wanting to leave her alone, I sat across from the door hoping for her to come outside when she finishes.

As soon as I heard the door open a while after I looked up at her.

I followed her to the kitchen and made pasta for both of us.

Even though she was guilty about what she said to my mother I still questioned her about her actions. She was justified in her explanation but I just had to ask her.

I explained to her that I don't want to fight with her anymore because that has been the only thing we have been doing since I brought her here.

That was step one of my plan to telling her.

After dinner I implemented step two of getting to know her a little better which had me intrigued. I of course promised to tell her my secret the following day which had me anxious but her sweet laughter comforted me.

I wanted to talk to her all night but when I saw her eyes closing on her I knew I should let her sleep.

I just prayed tomorrow goes smoothly and she doesn't reject me.

It's time for her to get answers.
