Volume 5 - CH 4
My Brother, Who's a Perfect Human Being, Has Stolen My Girlfriend and My Future, so I Went Back to the Past and Redo My Youth
âItâs been a whileâ¦â¦hasnât it?â
A bus stop with a timetable full of holes. The three of us sat down on a wooden bench that creaked and splintered when we sat on it.
âI wonder how long itâs beenâ¦â¦ Itâs been 9 years sinceâ¦â¦we graduated from high school?â
âI guess so.â
For me, itâs been a week and Iâm used to seeing her as an adult, so I donât have any emotional attachment to her, but Saki doesnât seem to think so. Well, I canât see her face because Shinobu is in the middle.
âWhy are you here in the countryside?ãDid you live with Daiki?â
âNoâ¦â¦. Daiki kun and I had a spontaneous breakup in high schoolâ¦â¦â
âI see.â
âBut I came to see Daiki kun todayâ¦andâ¦â¦â
âItâs tough. Your parentsâ company went bankrupt.â
ââ¦â¦â¦.â
I wonder if it was just a few weeks ago. The company was run by Sakiâs father and went bankrupt. This is something that didnât happen in my former life. The reason for this had been obvious for ten years.
âI wish I hadnât cheated on you back then.â
The incident in the past when I protected Daiki. In the aftermath of the incident, word spread that Daiki was having an affair with Saki, and Sakiâs family home, a real estate company with strong local roots, went under. The company temporarily stayed afloat, but once the bad publicity spread, it wouldnât disappear. The companyâs business slowly deteriorated and finally went bankrupt 10 years later.
âItâs not only your fault, but also your parentsâ fault for not being able to rebuild their business after 10 years.â
ââ¦â¦Kouki kun, you are so kind.â
âIâm just saying the right things. If I were to be honest, itâs all your fault.â
ââ¦â¦â¦â¦â
Iâve already shaken off the past. But that doesnât mean thereâs any reason to be nice. No matter how anyone looks at it, it was Saki who triggered the bankruptcy. Her parents are hardly at fault. The only thing I can say is that they raised a daughter like this.
ââ¦â¦But I think this is fate.â
Iâm glad that Shinobu was able to intervene.
âMeeting Kouki kun in a place like thisâ¦..it canât be a coincidence. Yes, so this is fate !ãDonât you think we can start over?â
I didnât want to see the face of the person who spat out these words.
ââ¦â¦Didnât you come here to see Daiki?â
âY-yeahâ¦..I thought that if I came here, I would be able to meet Kouki kun as wellâ¦.â
âYouâre wrong. You ran out of money and tried to become a parasite on Daiki.â
âThatâs notâ¦..true at all.â
âBy the way, I donât think Daiki lives around here anymore. The detective agency couldnât find him.â
âEhâ¦..then whereâ¦â¦â
âI donât know. He could be anywhere. Me, Daiki, Saki, weâre all strangers.â
âSâ¦.strangers, you sayâ¦.â
The bus arrived. If I take this train I will reach the station in 10 minutes.
âThen, weâre going home. See you laterâ¦.is kind of weird. We wonât see each other again.â
âWâ¦.wait,â¦â¦! Iâll take the bus with you !â
âI see. But if you donât have money, you shouldnât waste it, because you can get to the station on foot in half an hour.â
âIâ¦itâs just about the bus fareâ¦.â
Ignoring Sakiâs words, I got on the bus. Saki didnât get on. Apparently she didnât have any money.
âThis isnât an insult, butâ¦..if you donât have money, you should get a serious job. Instead of looking for someone to parasitize.â
âIâm not aâ¦â¦parasiteâ¦..â
âIs that so? Whatever. Driver, this person doesnât seem to be getting on, so you can go on.â
âWait,â¦â¦wait,â¦â¦.â
Saki was still saying something, but her words were mercilessly torn apart by the door. The only thing that can be understood from inside the car where no voice can be heard is the expression on Sakiâs face whoâs desperately trying to cling to me.
ââ¦.She didnât change.â
Thatâs right. It had been 10 years since Sakiâs parentsâ house started to fall apart.10 years. With that much time, people change, even if they donât want to. If they donât change, they will be left behind by the times.
But Saki hadnât changed. 10 years ago, she had only clung to whoever she could find to be a host, either me or Daiki. She doesnât make any effort.
ââ¦â¦â¦..â
The bus is going down an empty road. Just towards the destination. I quietly saw Saki off in the distance from the bus.
