21. Trustfall

But I slipped right through her fingеrs as I leaned back without caution

Took a trustfall and I landed at the bottom

Jenna

A few days past and i still can't get Azzis comment out of my head, it was kept between Paige and I that i slept in her room that night, thank god considering living with the whole team isn't easy to keep something from them.

"Snap out of it Jenna!" Mia chuckles snapping her fingers in front of my eyes as i shake my head.

"i-um—- sorry what were you saying?"

Mia sighs shaking her head as she pushes her glasses up to look back at her computer pausing the lecture we had been writing notes about.

I wondered what it was like to be Mia, to be pawned over, loved by so many people that she denies with any approach. To not have her name stuck to a back of a jersey as well as the power but pressure sitting upon her shoulders.

I pounder what it was like to be Mia. A simple girl — who loved girls, or if i'm honest who loved Nika., and didn't need to hide it.

"I was saying.. There's a party tonight at Kacy's — i was wondering if you wanted to go with me? You've been stuck in your own head for the past week — i honestly think you need to let loose a little.."

I sigh as i take my blue light glasses off and stare at my friend across from me, "Tonight? I- i don't know we leave for Europe in three days and i have YET to open my suitcase from when i moved in.."

"One night won't hurt you Jenna!"

"Yeah sure — but Geno may have my head.." I chuckle softly before looking at the brown eyes girl giving me awful puppy eyes. "Jesus if i say yes will you stop looking at me like — that—" I smile making her chuckle.

"Like what — like this.." She smiles before pouting her lip out whining, "please jenna pleaseeee"

"Shhh!!" I laugh covering her mouth as she talked to me in a baby voice — "I'll go if this," I gesture to her, "stops."

"Perfect!" She smiles.

A comfortable silence grows between us at we stay sat in the Library — too silent for my own liking to the fact that i can hear who Natalie Bush was fucking last night and why her room was a mess..

"Can i ask you something?" Mia whispers leaning close to my laptop before looking over her shoulder a few times anxious that someone who appear behind her.

"What now Mi?" I chuckled stopping my typing to look at her.

"Look— don't feel the need to answer this or once this gets uncomfortable stop me — and i know your with my brother—"

"We aren't with each other Mi..."

"Well you like him?"

Do I?

"Go on with the question Mia.."

"When did you start feeling something for Paige... It's different then feeling something for guys right? like Nika — i-i don't know she sends mixed signals and i'm not sure if i should pick them up or leave them.. She's the first girl i've liked.."

Was Mia not out?

"Mia — she may be my teammate but she'd be stupid not to fall for you.."

"Yeah — but how do i know if i'm falling for her.."

A small smile creeps on my faces as i remember the first, most terrifying time, when i figured out my crush on Paige when we were younger.

"Okay.. It was back in USA ball..." I started...

*flash back*

3rd Person

For perhaps the first time in her life, the impenetrable Jenna Midow can admit she's been nursing a little bit of a crush.

And no, not an impossible crush like a celebrity on TV or anything else, but a teammate, at that. Jenna wasn't stupid or ignorant— she'd known she liked girls and only girls since she was 14. She was also aware, however, that being openly gay was nothing short of having a sign on her back saying "kick me" from her family, so she was perfectly fine with shelving it away.

That had worked pretty well so far. Until, well— until Paige.

Paige and Jenna had been playing basketball since the first time they both picked up a ball and count shoot — becoming friends almost immediately after day 1 of USA tryouts.

but her crush only grew as she realize Paige was the one who showed up for everything no matter the distance no matter how far they were from each other if it was something important to Jenna, Paige was there.

The two found themselves inseparable, playing on the same team, loving the same movies, sharing interest and passion through basketball, truly falling for each other every second of the day, without even knowing it or each other, knowing it.

that was until one truth or dare game.

"Cmon Jenna don't be a baby!!" Haley chuckles throwing popcorn at the girl as her, caitlin and Paige along with other teammates sat circled on the ground of a hotel floor.

"fine fine! Dare! But if i chicken out don't get on me!" Jenna chuckles leaning into Paige out of instinct.

Jenna found out quickly that she felt very safe with paige. Also the fact that her love language is very much touch. so even being near Paige, for Jenna her biggest fears seem so small.

"Have you had your first kiss yet??" Haley smirks making the room go silent.

"i- i picked dare.." Jenna laughs embarrassed knowing the truth behind the question.

"Have you?!" Caitlin asked shocked.

"no..." Jenna whispers  making the groups eyes go wide — expect Paige. this was no surprise for the blonde. She knew her best friend inside and out so the mention of her first kiss, and not having it was not news.

"I dare you to kiss...." Haley smirks looking around the circle.

"Me—" the voice behind Jenna makes her jump only before making her eyes go wide. The only person that was behind her was Paige.

Paige? Wanted to kiss her??

"i-u- Paige — we don't — can't i have another dare?" Jenna stumbled on her words as Paige managed to get up from the circle as Haley's head shakes.

"No backing out now.."

"Cmon J..." Paige whispers grabbing her hand softly before leaning them to the empty bathroom where Jenna leans against the sink— creating as much distance as she can between her and her best friend.

"we don't have to—"

"I just saved your ass" Paige chuckles whispering before closing the door behind her as Jenna lets out a sigh of relief. "What's wrong Midow?"

there was no secret to Jenna that paige would do anything to protect her, especially in something silly, like a game of truth, or dare to get her out of an uncomfortable situation. That's why she offered to kiss her — not because she felt the same way Jenna did.

"Nothing." She says quick before looking down at her feet blush creeping up on her cheeks.

"Don't wanna kiss me?"

"I didn't say that P.." Jenna whispers as she looks up — Paige was now infront of her — the distance closed quickly between them.

"Then what's the problem if we both want it.."

"what—"

"You heard me.."

Paige pauses, her mouth slightly parted for a shaky breath to exit. Her deep, blue eyes staring into the nervous ones of Jenna's.

Without a moment to process, Paige tugs Jenna up slightly and connecting their lips. It's a move that while completely unexpected is extremely welcomed, and Paige's lips are warm, tasting of the Red Vines they just had and slightly of Altoids.

Separating from the kiss panic fills the blondes eyes as she rushes for the door.

"This was a mistake..." Paige coughs slightly before leaving the room entirely.

Jenna's fingers dance on her lips as they tinged wanting the warmth's of Paiges.

Who would've thought one simple peck would lead to a confusion packed amount of emotions.

What just happened?

Jenna

" and that's when I found out I was completely head over heels for my best friend, and that everything was completely ruined, because of one kiss..." I sigh looking down at my hands. " but things are different now too different to ever go back, feelings different. I don't think I'll ever like paige or see her in that way again."

"So she just left? Just like that?" Asked shocked,

"I know", I chuckling softly, not even believing my own story, " the next day we played, won gold, and then we were both on separate planes going home..."

"Jenna I'm so sorry..."

I was numb to the feeling everyone being sorry, but they could never could feel how I felt that day, " it's OK like I said things are different and I have Blake.." I smile trying to lighten the mood, " we should get going we have a party to get to remember.."

"Oh my gosh you're so right! You wanna get ready at mine?"

"Absolutely!" I smile towards my friend as I reminisce the memories of the story I had just told . A pain in my heart still holding close because of the day I let her go.

but that's what they'll stay, only a memory never reality.
