Chapter 2: Mates

Emma POV

I'm warm and really comfortable.

An amazing aroma of citrus fills my lungs. I leaned closer to the scent to land my face onto someone's warm skin. I opened my eyes and leaned my head back to see I had been asleep on a boy. He looked at me and smiles, making my cheeks feel warm he has grey blue eyes and dark brown hair that looks soft. I reach my hand up and raked my fingers through his hair to see if it was really as soft as it looked. I'm glad he doesn't push me away he just let my hands play with his hair. Which was actually really soft.

"What's you're name?" I asked him as I continued to play with his hair twirling it through my fingers.

"I'm Ryan. What's your name?" He asked me he sounded like a big kid his voice was deeper than kids my age and he also looked older than me. I would have been scared but for some odd reason I didn't instead I felt safe and wanted.

"I'm Emmeline Rose Johnson. You can call me Emma." I say introducing myself. His eyes lit with amusement as his smile grew more.

"You're mine" he whispered in my ear. I giggled as his breath tickled my ear. I leaned in closer to once again laying my head on his chest. I realized that I wouldn't mind being his so I nodded in reply. When I looked around the room I've never seen before. I began feeling a little nervous.

"Where's my daddy?" I ask concerned Ryan looked at me with confusion. I've never been away from my father for long after mommy died. I start feeling flustered and worried my breathing increases and tears start to leave my eyes.

"What's wrong? What do you need? I'll help you find him pleas don't cry" Ryan says to me his eyes are full of concern he looks worried.

"Daddy!" I call out jumping up from the boy's lap. My father runs in at that moment lifting me up I instantly wrap my arms around him breathing in his woodsy scent he didn't smell as good as Ryan but it comforted me to know he was their. When I look up I see two other people in the room other than us and Ryan. Dad sets me down onto the floor. I look up to see a man who looks kinda like Ryan but scary and old. Next to him is a pretty lady she has blonde hair like me but hers is dark and short. She smiles at me and waves.

"Hello dear. I'm Luna Audrey. But you can just call me Audrey okay sweet pea." She said sweetly. I like her she's nice and pretty like my momma was.

" Hello. I'm Emmeline Rose Johnson." I saw with a curtsy as I introduce myself.

The scary man turns to me and smiles which makes him look a little nicer but he's still scary. I then feel arms wrap around me and all I smell is oranges and all I feel is a tingling sensation erupt around my body. I feel calm and comfortable in Ryan's arms as he comforts me.

" I'm Alpha William. I see you've met my son Ryan." The man says smiling at me. Ryan's arms tighten around me as his father speaks.

"It's nice to meet you Alpha" I say softly. Leaning back into Ryan more than I was before. The Luna and Alpha show us to our rooms. My room is bigger than the one I had at the old pack house it's walls are painted a light purple with a pretty white bedspread. The room is beautiful. Ryan's hand encases mine as he shows me around my room. We ended up laying on my bed playing The Incredibles on the television which was across the room mounted on the wall. I curled up into Ryan's side his arms were wrapped around me sending tingles through my arms. I'd never felt anything like it before but I knew instantly that Ryan was someone who was going to be important to me.

We began talking in the middle of the movie. Ryan had asked me how old I was and I told him eight. I had found out that Ryan was twelve which meant he was a year ahead of me in school. When I told him we'd be going to school together his face lit up he seemed so happy that we'd be together when we went to school Monday. As we continue to watch the movie I felt myself drifting off to sleep in his arms.

Ryan POV

I can't believe that Emma is eight years old. She so small for her age. I didn't mind though I knew that I can protect her little self. When she opened her eyes I was enraptured by her beautiful blue doe eyes.

I felt complete with her wrapped in my arms as she slept. We had turned on some Disney movie she liked. In the middle of the movie we began talking. I discovered that Emma's really smart and is in fact ahead in school. She in the grade below me which means I get to go to school with her. I'm so glad I get to be their and protect her. We get to spend more time together.

I heard an knock at the door bringing me out of my thoughts. It was my mother. When she saw us laying together her face turned into a smile.

"Hey. You're father wants to speak to you both. We'll be in the dining room. Please wake up emma and meet us okay?" My mother said waiting for me to respond in some way before leaving the room. I nodded my head and proceeded to quietly wake up my little angel.

"Emma. We have to go downstairs okay come on" I said waking her up. She opened her brilliant blue eyes and smiled when she saw my face making me smile back. Holding her hand I a helped her up and off the bed. We walked into the he dining room hand in hand. My mother had prepared dinner which was her homemade lasagna with garlic bread and Caesar salad.

We walked in hand in hand. I pulled a seat out for Emma to sit in which she gladly took. I sat in the seat next to hers and started making her a plate making sure she had a good amount of everything.

I looked up from what I was doing to find all of our parents eyes on us. When I handed Emma her plate she said a quick thank you and began eating.

"Emma, Son. We'd like to tell you what mates are." My father said looking at us both. Setting our forks down onto our plates. Emma and I gave my father our full and undivided attention.

"Mates are two people who belong to one another. They are their to protect one another, love each other, and support one another until death. The moon goddess only blesses werewolves to have their own mates. You usually meet your mate after you're sixteenth birthday however you have met your mate sooner" my father pauses before he says the best thing "Ryan you have already met your mate.  Emma and you are mates."

"You and mom are mates?" I ask.

My father nods in response this makes me smile more.

"So I get to marry Emma and she's going to be Luna and mine forever!" I yell with glee. Once again my father nods I turn to look at Emma who is also smiling at me. I lift her up and set her on my lap.

"I get to keep Ryan?" Emma asks as if her life depends on the answer my mom laughs and this time she nods.  She then turns to her father who also nods. Emma turns herself in my lap and hugs onto me as I hug her back. Emma's mine all mine.

I hear the front door open as Arthur walks in with Andy his twin brother Arthur is my best friend and so is his brother.

"Yo what up." Andy yells as he walks into the dining room.

"hey there sweet cheeks and what might your name be?" Arthur says looking at Emma.

"I'm Emma. Ryan's mate" Emma responds I can't help but smile at the fact that she called me her mate.

" Emma's going to be my Luna" I say with pride announcing it to the guys. Both of their mouths drop.

"Is it true Alpha Will?" Andy asks as my dad as he's eating his food he nods and with that they both sit down and start eating too. Their practically my brothers.

When we finish eating we all head up to my room with Emma's hand in mine. I haven't been able to let her hand go.

"So how old are you future Luna" Arthur asks as he looks at Emma.

"I'm eight years old." She responds

"So you're not going to be at our school."  Andy adds in.

"No. I am I'm in sixth grade. I skipped a few grades since I'm smart." She responds as if what she said isn't impressive.

"But you're so small." Andy says. I can't help but growl.

"That's why I'm here." I say. I'm here to protect my mate and I will no matter what. Andy's eyes widen at my response we all go and sit on the couches in my bedroom and turn on the Xbox Emma lays in my arms as we play video games. She doesn't mind that we're playing.

Emma POV

I love snuggling into Ryan. When Alpha William said that he was my mate I was so happy. I can't think of Ryan being with anyone other than me and I get him all to myself. I like how he smells. I watch as he plays video games and rub in between his brows when he scrunches his face from frustration. We stay like that for an hour or so until the guys get bored from the game. Then decide to put on a movie. I curled up onto him as we watched one of the Avenger movies. I just played with his hair for most of the movie.

Today is the first day at my new school I walk through my closet throwing clothes around trying to find what to wear. I chose my yellow save the bees shirt and some dark blue skinny jeans finishing off my outfit with my white converse. I brushed my long hair out letting it run down my back in loose curls. I have naturally really long eyelashes that I received from my mother I put a light coat of mascara on them and then put on some clear lip gloss. I'm pretty young for makeup so it took a good amount of convincing for my dad to buy me mascara but I've always worn lipgloss. I love sparkles and the kids I go to school with believe their childish so lipgloss is the closest I can get.

I walked out of my restroom right as I hear a knock at my door.

"Come in." I call out. In walks Ryan he was also wearing jeans with a stark blue polo shirt and his hair was brushed back. He looked dreamy I definitely have a crush on Ryan.

"It's time to go are you ready?" He asked.

"Yes let me just grab my backpack and phone I grabbed my Fjällräven Backpack it's a dark blue and place my phone in my back pocket. We walked downstairs grabbed our lunches and walked to the car. Luna Audrey drove us to school we talked about what classes I had and found out that I had two periods with Ryan. We have math and Art class together. I'm ahead In math so much that they had to put me in seventh grade math. We stopped at Starbucks apparently our Luna has a frappe addiction she bought us both a Carmel Frappuccino. I of course said thank you and she said no problem.

When we pulled up to the school I noticed that it was larger than my last school. It was filled with so many people. Ryan opened my door before I could do so myself and held my hand as we entered. All eyes were on us as we walked through the halls and up to what I assumed was his friend group. I only knew Arthur and Andy so I immediately greeted them.

"Hey Andy, Arthur." They both smiled at my acknowledgment.

"Hey their little Luna how was you're weekend?" Andy asked.

"Pretty good. Ryan and I went to the movies yesterday." I said smiling at them. They nodded I turned to look at the other people in the group to see that they were all boys. I introduced myself and they all said hi back along with their names. In total their was seven of us. Andy, Arthur, Jason, Nick, Tommy, Ryan and I. They were all friendly and all werewolves.

I learned that they had all been friends sense kindergarten. It made me think of Kira and how much I wished she was here. A dark brown haired girl brought me out of my thoughts as she walked up to our group. She was wearing a white cropped top and shorts that definitely didn't follow dress code. She had her face caked in makeup. She was human.

" Hey Ryan. How was your weekend?" She asked as she pulled down her top more to show of her cleavage. How was she so developed at just twelve I thought. The. She put her slimy hand onto Ryan's shoulder.  I pulled onto Ryan's arm which made him step closer to me and her hand fell off of his arm from the distance I had created. Ryan's arms came around my waist pulling my back into his chest in front of him. Oh yeah now she can see me.

"It was great Elise. Emma and I went to the movies. Right babe?" He asked looking down at me I nodded smiling at him. I was glad that I got all his attention.

Elise looked down at me her eyes flashed with annoyance and disgust. I knew she was going to be trouble. Too bad she'd never get my mate. I may be eight but I know what a crush is and I know what jealousy is and she had it written all over her makeup caked face.
