Chapter 26

Awake

Shortie & Knight

A/N: Play the song up top when you see 🎼

•Amethyst•

"Knight... knight... knight," I croaked as my eyes fluttered open. The light was so harsh when I first tried, and the second time, and the third. That was my fifth time trying to wake up and it was finally working.

Suddenly I heard several footsteps from, I was guessing, the door. There were, what sounded like one, set of footsteps, however, that seemed very keen on getting here first. It was the lightest footsteps too, which made me wonder who was trying to get to me so fast. I tried to sit up but failed once I felt a sharp pain in my arm. The door banged open, causing me to flinch, and my mother sprinted over to me first. Next were my father and Max.

"Oh, my baby!" My mother cried loudly as she hugged me.

I leaned my head into her since I couldn't hug her without feeling like my arm was going to fall off.

"Hi," I croaked.

"Everyone needs to leave! We need to make sure she is stable!" A nurse called before my father or Max could even get to me.

My mother snarled (like a wolf) at the nurse before clutching onto me. "I'm not leaving my baby alone. Te asegurarás de que esté a salvo mientras yo esté en la habitación," she growled. (You will make sure she is safe while I am in the room.)

The nurse sighed. "Please, you need to give us space to work."

My mother was about to argue again when my father just came behind her and picked her up. I giggled a bit, though it sounded more like a wheeze, and turned to see Max being pulled back by Xander, his father, and Andy. I winked at him to assure him that I was fine, which made him tear up a bit and smile widely.

"I-I love you, Amy," he stuttered nervously.

I smiled brightly, happy that he felt the same way I did. "I love you too."

His eyes widened tremendously and his tense body relaxed. All of the people holding onto him turned to me with happy and teary-eyed expressions. I smiled at them before a bunch of doctors and nurses came in through the door and pushed all of them out. I turned to all of the doctors and nurses that had suddenly crowded around me and raised an eyebrow.

"We're going to ask you some questions while the doctors make sure you're okay, okay honey?" A plump faced woman asked me.

I shrugged. "Sure. As long as I can see my family."

She raised an eyebrow. "What's your name?"

"Amethyst Rosetta Stone."

"How old are you?"

"What month is it?" I wondered.

"December."

"I'm going to be eighteen any day now."

"What is your mother's name?"

"Esmeralda Rosalina Stone."

"And your fathers?"

"Aster Stone."

"Your siblings?"

"Don't have any."

"Your boyfriend?"

"Maximus Magnum King."

"Best friend?"

"Samantha Lorence."

And it just went on like that. They asked me questions that any sane person would know the answer to, did some tests to make sure I would be able to walk and function, only to find out that I had now become mildly colorblind in my left eye and had a permanent scar all down my arm. Other than that, I was perfectly fine. They said that the fact that I recovered so well with so little permanent injuries was basically a miracle since it wasn't likely that I would even survive. I was on the verge of death when they found my beaten up car on the side of the road.

The fact that I even made it to the hospital alive was surprising to them.

After that, they left and let my parents and Samantha come in first. My father came up to me and kissed my hair, thanking God that I was alive. Once he pulled away from me, Samantha ran up to me and cried onto my shoulder while my parents hugged each other. I smiled at all of them and told them I was okay, which caused them all to cry even harder. I just let them cry, since I knew it was a very surprising and happy time for them, and felt myself tear up a bit too.

After that they left, all of my little cousins came in. They each asked me if I saw heaven, and just to make them smile, I told them I did. The boys said that I was technically a zombie while all of the girls said I was an angel. I just laughed at both and said I was neither, but they all seemed pretty convinced otherwise. After that, my aunts, uncles, older cousins, and grandparents came in, basically filling up the whole room. Each of them took time hugging me and kissing my cheek. They all said that they paused everything to come and make sure I was okay (since all of them lived all around the country).

After they all left, my new friends came in. Kace, Axel, Oscar, Kyle, Xander, and Audrey came in with happy expressions. They each had red eyes, which showed that they had cried, but they all acted as if it was any other day and that I wasn't in a hospital bed, but instead at school in a cafeteria bench. Kace, Axel, and Oscar were scared that I wasn't going to remember them, since I had only met them recently, but I just rolled my eyes and told them to give me a hug. We all laughed and joked around before they had to leave for even more people to come and see me.

Max's family surprised when they all came in. I wasn't expecting all of Max's siblings to come in (featuring Austin), but they did. Noelani and Ainsley squealed so loud when they saw me and were about to jump on me but Ethan and Noah held them back. Austin and Alexander gave me two hamburgers and a large fries since they thought I'd be hungry from not eating for about a month. I giggled at how cute they were and thanked them with kisses on the cheek. Both do them blushed badly while the twins glared at them. To make the twins happy I gave them two kisses, one on each cheek. They smiled so wide I thought their face would split. The girls just sat on my bed and played with my hair, saying that it grew a lot. As they were talking to me, Max's parents came in.

Max's father told me how glad he was to properly meet me. He was extremely tall and I could definitely tell where the kids got it from, like he could basically touch the ceiling. They stayed with me for a long time, it wasn't until I heard a loud groan of frustration did I realize that the person I thought about the whole time I was sleeping was waiting to talk to me in private. All of the King's (and Austin) left the room with smiles on their face while I waited  for my knight to come in.

🎼

"Knight?" I called out.

"Shortie?" He answered as he peeped his head through the door.

I felt the tears that I hadn't realized I was holding back pour from my eyes. "I'm here. I-I'm here knight."

He ran into the room and bent down next to the bed to cup my face. "Why are you crying?"

"Because I missed you so much," I weeped.

He bit his lips as his eyes glossed over with tears. "I didn't think I could cry anymore and yet here I am," he said with a slight chuckle. "I missed you too, shortie, so damn much."

I smiled through the tears. "I heard you, you know. I tried to answer you every time but I just couldn't."

His eyes grew in size. "You could actually hear me?"

I nodded. "I could hear everyone that talked to me, but I remember hearing you the most."

Some of his tears fell. "I thought I was talking to myself the whole time." I shook my head. "Fuck, Amethyst. You're so amazing I don't even have words anymore."

I laughed. "You're the one that came here everyday."

"You're the one that survived." He shook his head with a small smile. "Thank God you did. You're it for me, you know that?"

I smiled. "Same here."

We sat in silence for a moment. A silence, and I might be sounding cheesy here, that meant so much more than words. It said what we had been feeling during this whole, dramatic, and scary times during our lives, and what our pasts said about us, but also our future. And I was so glad that I'd be alive for that future, and I'm sure Max was too.

"Did I ever tell you about the time I first realized I had a crush on you?" Max asked suddenly.

I giggled. "Max you don't have to te-"

He shook his head. "No, I want to tell you." I smiled and nodded for him to speak. "It was in the fourth grade, during recess time. I saw you all alone on the swings while I was playing soccer with my friends. You didn't look sad, in fact, you looked rather happy with yourself. You had a soft smile on your face, your hair was blowing in the light breeze, and you were looking at the kids around you. I remember stopping in the middle of the game just to watch you." He chuckled. "I accidentally got hit in the head with a soccer ball." I giggled.

"God I missed your laugh," he said as he played with my fingers.

I smiled. "I missed giggling with you."

He pouted. "I don't giggle. I chuckle, but like, a manly chuckle."

I pinched his cheek. "You're too cute for a many chuckle, though."

He rolled his eyes. "You're lucky you're an amazing girlfriend or else I'd be mad at you."

"You could never stay mad me for long anyway."

He shrugged. "That is true."

I leaned in and kissed his forehead and he closed his eyes with a slight smile on his face.

"Hey shortie?" Max asked as both of us put our foreheads together.

"Yeah knight?" I asked as I closed my eyes as well.

"I love you."

I smiled. "I love you more."

"I love you most."

I giggled. "You're the best knight a girl could ask for."

"And I'll be yours forever."

"Yeah. Yeah, you will."
