Chapter 22

Unicorns

Shortie & Knight

•Amethyst•

"Two popcorns please," I said softly to the man working the concessions stand.

He smiled at me and gave me the popcorns. "On the house."

I smiled brightly in thanks and took the popcorns. "Thanks."

"Anything for 'Future Mrs. Knight'."'

I giggled and waved. "Have a nice day."

I started to walk away when I bumped into something hard. I looked up and frowned slightly when I saw four guys crowded around me. Each of them looked a little scrawny compared to all of the boxers I saw roaming around, but they were still muscular. They were all glaring at me like I killed their dog which made me gulp down the sudden lump of fear in my throat.

"You with Maximus?" One of them asked.

He looked to be the scrawniest of the bunch, and the most unkempt, but they all seemed to have a a certain respect for him.

"W-what?" I whispered in fear.

He chuckled darkly. "You heard me, princess. I ask you a question now answer it."

"I-I'm confused," I mumbled.

He snickered with the rest of his friends. "Idiot. You're bettin' on the guy that always wins, right? Well guess what? He ain't gonna. Not with Crusher on our team."

I gulped again and felt my hands start to shake. I really hated confrontation.

"W-what?"

"W-what?" He mimicked. "I said Maximus is gonna lose, bitch! You're bettin' on the wrong guy. You should be ashamed that you're even showin' you ugly ass face in front of us."

I felt the tears start to prick at the back of my eyes. "I'm not betting on anybody." Finally, a full sentence.

He turned to the rest of his friends and mouthed a few words before turning to me. "Give us your popcorn."

Excuse me, dick? My food? He better be prepared to get kicked in the balls if he wants my fucking popcorn. "What?" I asked instead of speaking my thoughts.

"You deaf? The damn popcorn, give it to us. I ain't gonna ask again."

"You're gonna have to fellas 'cause I couldn't hear ya from up here," a familiar deep and scary voice said from behind me.

"Are you fucking unicorns?" One of the guys asked as he started to laugh.

I turned around to see Kace and Axel standing behind me with their arms crossed. Axel lightly grabbed onto my shoulder and pushed me behind him while Kace got in the scrawniest guy's face while cracking his knuckles.

"Are you seriously messing with a girl?" He asked, though it didn't seem like he wanted the real answer.

"She's bettin' on the wrong team." What the fuck does that even mean?

"So what? You're gonna steal her popcorn? You're gonna call her a bitch?"

"You shouldn't be talking, unicorn boy. Go back to your fairy forest and poop some rainbows, okay?" Another boy said as he got into Kace's face.

"Right after I kick all of your asses," Kace growled before punching the scrawny guy in the face.

I screeched in fear and hid further behind Axel. The only fights that I were expecting that day were the ones in the ring. I wasn't ready for a fight to break out over something stupid, like me betting on the wrong person. Even though I had no clue what that even meant. Max was my boyfriend, not some random game at some random casino.

"Stay behind me sweetheart," Axel ordered as he slowly dipped his hand into one of the bags of popcorn.

I slapped his hand before he could get some. "Touch my food and you die. I almost got fucking jumped for this shit." I paused as I got an idea. "In fact..."

I took a deep breath and walked in front of Axel and up to one of the boys who were helping their scrawny friend off the floor. Once I got to him I held out my popcorns and smiled brightly to hide my fear.

"Here. Take them. I'll just get two others," I offered.

The boy looked at me, along with Kace, scrawny boy, the guy that got in Kace's face, and that one other guy who was completely silent during all of this. "W-what?" They all asked in unison.

"W-what?" I mimicked in a deep voice. "Take the popcorn. I don't want you guys fighting, okay? And by the way, Max is my boyfriend, not some guy I'm betting on. I don't bet on people... I don't have the money for it."

The scrawny guy instantly shot up from his friends arms and stared at me with a scared expression. "You're Max's girl, Amethyst? You're his girl?"

I nodded suspiciously. "Yes... why?"

He scoffed. "What do ya mean 'why?'?! He's the best boxer in town and you're his girl! Even if he was the worst boxer ever- or the size of a regular human- you still don't mess with a boxer's girl. That's just suicide waiting to happen."

How is that suicide? A different person is killing someone else, it's not suicide. That's homicide. Does this guy even go to school?

"That ain't suicide, you dumb fuck. That's murder," Kace and Axel said at the same time.

"Oh great, I've been punched so hard the unicorns are talking in sync," scrawny boy whined.

I rolled my eyes and hugged the popcorns to me. "I guess that means these popcorns are mine and you guys will be leaving me alone now."

Axel cracked his knuckles. "Unless you wanna stay? I haven't got to punch either of you yet."

Finally the kid who didn't speak spoke up. "I suggest we leave, guys. We don't want our skulls to be rearranged."

He used a word that was more than eight letters! And with proper grammar?! I like him the best.

"Please don't tell Max," the boy who went in Kace's face begged.

I nodded. "As long as you don't call him Max ever again, sure. He only lets the people he likes call him Max, and he doesn't like you. You'll refer to him as Mr. King."

They all nodded. "Please don't tell Mr. King," they said in unison.

I smiled. "Done. But just and F.Y.I., the unicorns will definitely tell him... and I won't stop them."

They all whined loudly before running away. I smirked triumphantly and turned to Kace and Axel. They both smiled at me before giving each other a high-five. After that Kace took out his wallet and turned around to the concessions stand. He checked his wallet before frowning and turned to me with a large pout and wide eyes. He looked really adorable in his unicorn onesie and I just couldn't help myself.

"Fine, you greedy unicorn." I handed him one of my popcorns. "Here."

He smiled widely before taking a handful. "You're such a badass, Amy."

I rolled my eyes. "Says the guy dressed as a unicorn."

"Hey! Horses can't break a human's ribs with a single kick! If that's the case, then unicorns can just stab people with their horn; meaning I'm badass. I'm the baddest of asses, in fact."

I smiled. Don't mess with 'Future Mrs. Knight. Not only will her future husband hurt you, so will his stupid friends who dress like unicorns.

~<~<~<

"Go Max!" I screamed from my seat.

The whole crowd seemed to be cheering for him and I just couldn't keep my excitement down. So far, the other matches each left with bruises and cuts, yet Max was perfectly fine. He didn't have one thing wrong with him, other than the insane amount of sweat. He seriously looked like Niagara Falls which was surprising to me since he looked like he was having the easiest time avoiding the other guy's punches. The other guy was definitely having some trouble though, the busted lip, bruised cheek, cut on the nose, and disgustingly sweaty body was enough for me to conclude that he was losing.

Until he punched Max.

I gasped loudly and held onto Axel's arm in fright. "Knight!" I screamed.

He staggered backwards, leaving the guy enough time to hit him again, and again, and again... and again. I gasped louder each time, and by the fifth hit, I was at the edge of my seat. Right when the boy was going to hit Max again, Max ducked under his swing and punched him in the gut. The guy's eyes widened as the air left him, giving Max the perfect chance to keep on punching him. He gave the guy three more punches to the gut before dodging another hit and giving him a nice uppercut. The guy started to wobble on his feet but kept on swinging anyway. Max was too slow to miss one of his punches, causing him to get punched straight in the chest. Max coughed at the air leaving his chest but still dodged the other punch coming his way. Once he got his breath back, he just kept punching and dodging and punching and dodging and pun- you get the point.

It wasn't until the guy fell onto the ground that I realized Max had won.

I jumped up from my seat, completely forgetting about my popcorn, and screamed at the top of my lungs once the referee announced Max the winner. Max looked down at me and smiled, even with that weird thing in his mouth. I smiled back and waved happily at him.

"You did amazing knight!" I screamed.

He smiled even wider, that being a sign that he'd heard me.

"King! King! King! King!" The crowd chanted.

"Knight! Knight! Knight! Knight!" I chanted as well.

After a few minutes of that, the crowd died down and everyone started to leave. I walked outside with Kace and Axel since they said that Max usually wanted to go and eat as soon as he was done showering and changing.

Once I had made my way outside, Axel and Kace were leaning on the brick wall talking to Oscar. I was going to walk over to them when I felt hands touch my shoulder. I turned around to see Max's bare chest and smiled up to his face. I jumped up and wrapped my arms around his neck and my legs around his waist, smashing my lips to his before he could react. His arms slowly wrapped around my waist to make sure I didn't fall while I pulled his face closer to mine. He smiled a bit into the kiss before pulling back and kissing my forehead.

"I heard you the whole time, shortie," his deep, now slightly raspy, voice making me smiled widely.

"You did absolutely amazing. Mike Tyson would probably pee his pants in fear if he went against you," I said as I played with his damp hair.

"That guy almost beat me, babe. Mike Tyson would knock me out with one punch."

I rolled my eyes. "Please. You were awesome and don't you forget it."

He kissed my nose and smiled brightly, causing me to swoon and sigh in happiness. "You're adorable, you know that?"

"Not as adorable as those unicorns," I judged my head towards Kace and Axel. "Besides, was that guy Crusher by any chance?"

"Ocean? I guess. I heard a few guys call him that. He's a real nice guy once you get to know him," Max said as he put me down.

I scoffed. "His friends are assholes," I grumbled.

"What'd they do?"

I looked up and smiled. "Promised I wouldn't tell. Ask Axel and Kace, they'll tell you." He nodded. "Why wasn't your family, Xander, and Kyle there?"

He smirked. "They don't like watching me getting punched and stuff. My mom, the little ones, and Ethan hate seeing me fight."

I raised an eyebrow. "Ethan? I he was super macho and all that."

"It's all an act with him. Noah's the real one you should worry about. He could actually beat people up with no problem."

"I wonder where he gets that from," I said sarcastically.

"My mother and sisters," he answered quickly.

I laughed loudly. "I love your family."

He zipped up his sweatshirt and out his arm over my shoulder. "They love you." He walked me towards the group. "Time for French fries!"

"Yeah!" Axel and Oscar cheered at the same time as Kace who said: "As long as you pay!"

I giggled. Goofballs. I think I'll really like them at our school.
