Chapter 18
The Lycan's Queen
The Lycanâs Queen Book 1 â Chapter 18 The black soulless eyes glared at me as I took a deep breath and closed the door.
In front of me, Adonis stood, wrapped in chains and breathing heavily Except this wasnât Adonis; his lycan was very much in controll Having an angry mate is one thing, but having an angry mate who is a lycan is a completely different ballpark Adonis would never hurt me. I knew that, but his lycan has never been introduced to me, and that scared me.
Adonis struggled against the chains. The sound of them made me cringe. I 1 couldnât believe how many there were, but looking at Adonis, it wasnât a shocker as to why I knew I had to remain calm and take it slow. This wasnât the Adonis I knew.
âAdonis,â I said His eyes narrowed as I took a step closer. Immediately he started sniffing the air, and again those black eyes connected with mine.
âMate,â Adonisâs lycan said, his deep voice making my heart beat even faster.
Should I say something else? My brain was still making up its mind, but that was too slow for his lycan.
I jumped back in shock when Adonis moved forward, but the chains pulled him back, causing him to let out another growl.
âMate. Must get to mate.â Adonis was struggling against the chains.
My eyes found the places where the chains were digging into his skin, causing him to bleed as he was pulling on the chains so hard.
âStop,â I said. I had to do something, I couldnât see Adonis cause himself pain.
Thankfully he stopped. He looked at me in question, and I sighed.
âPlease, donât pull on the chains. I need to see Adonis.â
He growled again, clearly not happy with what I said, but I tried again.
âPlease,â I begged.
His resolve broke as he closed his eyes and took a deep breath. This time my eyes connected with Adonisâs hazel eyes. The same eyes I realized that I had missed Even though it hadnât been that long, I missed his eyes.
âAdonis.â I smiled.
This time I closed my eyes as I heard his familiar voice reply, âAarya.â
Hearing his voice made me breathe a sigh of relief. I opened my eyes again and the smile got bigger.
âYouâre okay,â he breathed out.
âYes, perfectly fine. You would know that if you hadnât gone all psycho on that poor doctor. I wanted to see your face when I opened my eyes, but I saw a nurseâs face instead.â I rolled my eyes.
Adonis looked down at the floor. âIâm sorry, little one. When you collapsed in my arms, my lycan couldnât handle it. We only just got you; we couldnât lose you.â
âAnd you wonât, but you and your lycan need some serious anger management classes,â I told him.
âIâd do anything for you, but right now I just want to feel you in my arms again. However, that is a bit hard for me right now.â Adonis rattled the chains.
âOh, right. How do I get these off?â I looked around for a key.
âIn the corner, middle shelf, the keys are there,â Adonis replied.
Let me tell you something, removing all these chains was hard work. Especially because the chains were all tangled together, and Adonis was being impatient.
I swear, I wanted to lock him back up in the chains. Every time I got one chain off, he wanted to touch me. I had to keep swatting his hands away.
ns Once I got all the chains off him, he wasted no time in picking me up in his arms. I squealed and wrapped my legs around his waist.
Adonis buried his face in my neck and breathed in. âYour scent always manages to calm me down.â
âHmmâ¦â I wasnât really paying attention as I was enjoying being in his warm embrace.
âWait, youâre hurt. I saw the chains digging into you. Adonis put me down.â I struggled in his arms.
Adonisâs reply was to hold me tighter. âI do not care. I want you in my arms. Just this once, please donât argue,â
How could I argue with that? His words sent that warm feeling down my spine, and I snuggled into his embrace.
âDid you know I am a lycan now,â I mumbled.
âYes, I can sense it, little one.â Adonis chuckled.
My response was to bury my face in Adonisâs neck as he carried me up the stairs. Him holding me felt so normal, and I loved it.
âDimitri, youâreâ¦,â Gabe trailed off.
âBusy,â Adonis said, walking away.
âYeah, very busy with your mate. She didnât even save you from killing that doctor, but of course you wouldnât care,â Evan muttered under his breath.
âI can hear you,â I told him.
âWhat⦠how?â Evan spluttered âIdiot, sheâs a lycan now.â Gabe hit him on the head.
âOh shit. Better be careful with what I say,â Evan said, causing Lexi to laugh and Adonis to sigh.
I couldnât help but smile: Evan was such a character.
âEvan, she helped me become a better person, and thatâs more than you have done,â Adonis replied, smirking at Evanâs face.
Evan being Evan, he didnât let that get to him as he yelled, âWe will make sure no one disturbs you two love birds.
âIâm going to kill him,â Adonis mumbled.
âAs if. He is your best friend,â I said laughing.
Adonis didnât say anything else as he made his way to our room.
Guards bowed as Adonis walked past them. I still wasnât used to that. He opened the door, and I reluctantly detached myself from him.
âYou donât know how worried I was,â Adonis said, sitting down on the bed âWell if you being locked up wasnât a big enough sign that you missed me, then you not being by my side when I woke up was the next sign,â I replied, sitting down next to him.
âIâm so sorry. My lycan, he just took over when you collapsed in my arms. It happened so suddenly.â
Adonis sighed.
âWell, I was serious when I said that you both need some anger management classes.â I attempted to lighten the mood.
Adonisâs mouth curved up in a smile. âYou always know what to say.â
âItâs a talent of mine.â I winked.
âYouâre feeling okay, right? Please tell me you were discharged before you came to get me.â Adonis jumped up, and his eyes ran over my body as if he suddenly remembered I was in the hospital.
âI am fine, and who needs to get discharged anyway? I felt fine, so I left, and I came to get you.
Honestly no one could have stopped me. Plus, what about you? Those chains digging into your skin.â I shuddered.
Adonis ran his hands through his hair in frustration. âYou didnât even let the doctor know? You just walked out? Thatâs so careless. And I am fine, I will heal. Itâs you that I am worried about.â
âNo. Jane, the doctor, was there when I left. If it was serious, she would have tried to stop me. Well, youâre worried about me, and I am worried about you.â I rolled my eyes.
âBut still, you should be resting. Donât worry about me, little one, I heal very fast.â Adonis looked concerned.
âAdonis, I am fine. There is nothing wrong with me.â I stood up and turned around as if to say âseeâ and made a mental note that lycans heal fast.
Adonis sighed and replied, âFine, itâs clear I am not going to win this battle.â
âYes, and Iâm a lycan now and heal superfast,â I said, using his own words against him âYouâre a lycan now,â Adonis repeated.
âYes, I just said that.â I looked at him, confused.
Adonis suddenly had a massive smirk on his face.
âDo you know what this means?â
âNo but clearly you do,â I replied.
âYou being a lycan means amazing lycanâ¦â Adonis didnât get to finish his sentence because someone knocked on the door.
Of course he growled, but I elbowed him in the side. He so needed to learn to control his anger.
âLook, I know I promised to not let anyone disturb you two love birds, but I think this in an exception,â
Evanâs voice flowed through.
Adonis looked unimpressed, so I told him, âStop thinking with your dick for once.â
Adonis smirked and replied, âIf I was thinking with my dick, then youâd be on this bed naked, and Iâd be doing things to you that you canât even imagine.â
Well fuck. That one sentence of his caused sparks to shoot down my core. Before anything could happen, I quickly got up and made my way to the door âEvan. This better be important,â Adonis called out.
I opened the door and gasped.
âNiya!â
