Chapter 19
Divorce Time
Chapter 19 But he hadnât thought it through, suspecting Charlene might have gone to the Ross family As he stepped into the bathroom, a thought suddenly struck him. Charlene usually took Jasmine with her whenever she visited the Ross family.
Unusually, she hadnât taken their daughter with her. Could it be she hadnât gone to the Ross family after all? Or perhaps something had come up with the Ross family.
Recalling what Coy had mentioned when leaving the office that aftemoon confirmed his suspicion. He paused but decided not to interfere The following morning, while having breakfast, Thome told Jasmine, Tve completed your enrollment process. Youâll report to school tomorrow morningâ
âGot it,â Jasmine wrinkled her nose. âCan you take me to school tomorrow, Dad?â
âI might not be freeâ
âOkay then,â Jasmine said, her eyes sparkling as she added, âIâll call Ms. Hawkins later and ask her to take me to school.â
Before Thorne could reply, his phone rang. It was from the Henderson Mansion.
Picking up, he heard Irmaâs voice.
âI heard youâre back in town?â
âYeah.â
âDid Minnie come back with you?â
âShe did.â
âIâve missed Minnie. Why donât you and Charlene bring her over for dinner tonight?â
âSure.â
âAnd Charlene? Let me speak to her.â
âSheâs not here.â
How come sheâs not there at this hour?â
âShe might have gone to the Ross family.â
âMight have? As her husband, you have no clue where your wife might be?â
Thorne stayed silent.
âYou-â Irma sighed, finally falling silent.
Then, with a softer tone, Thorne changed the subject. âHave you eaten?â
âIâm fed up with your attitude!â
Thorne chuckled. He continued his breakfast as usual.
Irma knew this grandson of hers had always been independent. Considering the current state of his marriage with Charlene, Thorne had made significant compromises.
With Thorneâs personality, even with good intentions, she couldnât push too much.
With that, she sighed, âForget it. I have nothing more to say. Bye.â
âSee you tonight.â
âYou-â Irma hung up, clearly frustrated.
Initially uninterested, Jasmine tuned in toward the end and asked curiously, âDad, who was that?â
âYour greatâgrandma.â Remembering Irmaâs words, Thorne dialed Charlene, âShe wants us over for dinner tonight.â
Jasmine adored her greatâgrandma, who was equally fond of her. Hearing this, she said joyfully, âOh, Iâve missed her, too.â
Thorne hummed in response while looking at his phone.
At that moment, Charlene was having breakfast with the Ross family.
When she saw Thorneâs call, she hesitated. The excitement and joy she once felt at the sound of his ring were no longer there.
After a twoâsecond pause, she answered, âHello.â
45 Grandma wants us over for dinner tonight.â
Charlene replied, âOkay, Iâll be there.â
Youâll pick up Minnie tonight.â
Charlene didnât want to go back there. Besides, even if she went to pick up Jasmine herself, Jasmine might not be too pleased.
Why bother making things difficult for herself?
She suggested, âLet the driver take her over. Iâll drive there after work.â
Traffic was usually hectic after work. It indeed seemed like the most hassleâfree option.
Yet, Charlene had always enjoyed dealing with Jasmineâs matters, never finding it a bother.
Hearing Charleneâs suggestion, Thome was somewhat surprised. But he didnât dwell on it, considering it a minor issue not worth fussing over.
âAlright then.â
After hanging up, Jasmine knew who had been on the other end of Thorneâs call.
âWas it Mommy?â
âYeah.â
