Chapter 17
Divorce Time
Chapter 17 Coyâs expression soured, believing that Charlene was using her position to get special treatment. âMs. Ross, please watch your attitude at work. Do you think this is your home?â
Charlene picked up her purse, her demeanor unchanged. âIf youâre unsatisfied, you can fire me right now!
âYouâ
He had accompanied Thome to Goldland but was also aware of Charleneâs resignation letter. Although he had Thomeâs trust, the company wasnât his domain. Coy didnât have the power to tell Charlene to leave.
Moreover, Charlene was in good graces with Irma. If Charlene complained there, even if Thome backed him up, it wouldnât end well for him.
Without paying him any mind, Charlene left.
Coyâs face turned a shade greener as he left the secretarial department.
Josh noticed his foul mood and asked, âWhat happened?â
Coy relayed the incident.
osh was stunned.
Usually, he interacted with Charlene more frequently and knew her character well.
He couldnât help saying. âIt doesnât sound like something Charlene would do. Is there some misunderstanding?â
âThereâs no misunderstanding. It happened exactly like that. Charlene is exploiting her status. Sheâs not as commendable as youâve described.â
Josh paused. âMaybe sheâs acting out because sheâs resigning?â
But Charlene had been actively working lately, just as before.
Right then, Thome approached. âWhatâs going on?â
âItâs about Ms. Ross. She left works unfinished.â
âIf youâre dissatisfied, just follow the procedure to dismiss her.â It was clear Thorne didnât care much about the situation.
Sosh and Coy were stunned, not by Thorneâs indifference toward Charleneâs situation, but by his implication that he was unaware of her resignation letter.
Wasnât Charleneâs resignation his idea? Had they misunderstood?
They were about to speak when Thorneâs phone rang. It was a call from Vesta.
Thorne walked toward the elevator as he answered the call without another glance at them, âIâm off work now. Iâll be there soon...â
Josh and Coy exchanged glances.
Josh mused, âMaybe Mr. Henderson forgot?â
âItâs possible.â
Thorne never seemed too concerned about Charleneâs affairs.
Elsewhere, Jasmine and Helena were close. Whenever Jasmine was home, Charlene would bring her to the Ross family.
Even though Jasmine had returned to the country, she hadnât called Helena once. Instead, she called Vesta daily, missing her terribly if they didnât speak for a few days.
Seeing that, Charlene didnât insist.
Besides, if Helena knew Jasmine and Vestaâs closeness, sheâd be livid.
So, this time, even with Jasmine back in the country, she didnât pick her up from Thorneâs but went alone to the Ross family.
Traffic was heavy, and it was already past six in the evening when Charlene arrived at the Ross family.
Helenaâs smile faded to a look of concern as she touched Charleneâs face. âYouâve lost weight, sweetie.â
Charleneâs eyes shimmered slightly. âIâve been busy at work.â
Helena sighed. âNo matter how busy, you must eat properly.â
âI now, Grandma. Iâll take care of myself.â
Sitting next to Helena, Charlene rested her head on her shoulder for some comfort.
Seeing the lamb stew was ready, Helena instructed the staff to serve some to Charlene to warm her up.
07.32 hapter Istening to Helenaâs caring words and thinking of recent events brought tears to Charleneâs eyes.
