Misunderstandings.
Solomon Academy 1: Della
DELLA
We somehow manage to reach Tennâs office without any mishaps. The five-minute walk was nerve-wracking, but we made it through unscathed.
âHello, Della.â Tenn greets me with a smile that makes me blush.
Micha practically shoves me inside the office. Oh, rightâthe impending doom.
I slump into my usual chair, completely drained. Iâm sick of constantly being on high alert. The visions have been draining me too. I feel like I could sleep for an eternity.
âWhat was that all about in class?â Micha inquires, concern etched on his face. Heâs always worried.
âWellâ¦um, Professor Coach noticed my fear when he told me to see Raziel. So, I had to explain why. Things got a bit heated,â I respond, skirting around the details.
âProfessor Coach?â Tenn raises an eyebrow, smirking.
âProfessor Issac,â Micha corrects, chuckling.
âYou demons need to start introducing yourselves better. I still donât even know The Doctorâs first name,â I grumble, a hint of hysteria in my voice, causing him to blush.
âItâs Gavin,â Tenn reveals with a smile.
âWhat do you mean heated?â Micha probes. Well, shit.
âUm⦠So he asked how he could serve me and offered to become my consort,â I mumble, feeling a wave of discomfort wash over me at the memory.
Their faces harden into scowls.
âWhat?â Tennâs voice is low and hard, causing me to shrink back into my seat. I feel small. I donât like it. Why is he mad at me? I didnât do anything.
The door swings open, revealing Kade and Sorin.
âWhat is going on here?â Kade demands, rushing over to me. âWhatâs wrong, baby?â He kneels in front of me, concern etched on his face.
âWhy is she scared?â Sorin asks.
âI donât know! She said Isaac found out about her and then asked to serve her!â Tenn exclaims, his voice filled with rage.
âServe her how?â Sorin asks gently. His eyes, filled with anxiety, quickly turn fearful. âOh no.â Itâs like he can see right through me.
âAs her consort,â Tenn growls, his aura bathed in red.
âDella?â Michaâs voice is filled with concern rather than anger.
âIââ Before I can finish, Sorin wraps me in his arms.
âDid he try something?â Sorin whispers.
âHe just asked and touched my leg, but it was enough to cause a PTSD flashback and almost send me into a panic attack,â I whisper back.
He holds me closer, and I know Kade heard me, too, because heâs at my back, holding me, sheltering me between themâkeeping me safe.
âWhy are you mad at her?â Sorin questions Tenn.
âIâm not mad at her!â Tenn defends.
âIt looks like you are,â Kade murmurs into my hair.
âIâm mad at Isaac! I just need to know what is going on between them!â Tenn shouts.
âDoc, calm down. She doesnât need you yelling right now,â Micha scolds before turning his attention back to me. âI canât believe I didnât see it. You even told me about your scar. Iâm so sorry, sweetness,â Micha says softly.
âWhatâs going on?â Tenn seethes, and I canât help shrinking in on myself even with Kade and Sorin holding me. Heâs not yelling anymore, but heâs still mad. I donât know what to do.
âDo you mind if I tell him?â Micha asks.
âItâs fine. I just⦠I canâtâ¦,â I stammer. I canât hear it right now.
âItâs okay, sweetness. I understand.â Micha nods and takes Gavin away to the other end of the room to talk.
âCan we go home? I donât want to be here right now,â I say quietly to Kade.
âOf course, baby,â Kade says, planting a kiss on my temple. âGuys, weâre going to her place. Meet you there,â he says a bit louder.
I hear a gasp from Tenn as Sorin turns me to the mirror and into the cell.
âIâm going to go up to the clock,â I mutter.
âOf course, do you want to be alone?â Sorin asks, spreading that beautiful magical warmth over my skin.
âGive me a few minutes?â I request.
Kade lays a gentle kiss on my forehead before he lets me go.
Once Iâm outside, I look out over the expanse of colorful trees and just breathe. I feel my heartbeat calm down and my mind slow to a less frantic pace. My shoulders relax and I can finally just let go.
I feel like this has been the longest week of my life. Between finding out Iâm not crazy but a demon, meeting my real parents, school, the guys, and Raziel, I am fucking exhausted. I feel empty and tired and like I just want to cry. So I do.
I let the tears fall down my face and onto the cement walkway far below.
I feel someone behind me, but I just donât care at the moment.
âDella?â Tenn asks.
âIâm not ready to talk yet,â I admit, my voice trembling.
âThatâs fine. Can I sit with you?â he asks instead.
I nod as I stare out into the trees. I feel him sit down beside meânot close enough to touch but close.
After my tears dry up and I feel a bit more in control, I turn to him. He looks rough. His suit is rumpled and his hair is all over the place. His beautiful green eyes are rimmed with red.
âIâm sorry,â he whispers, looking at me. âI didnât understand. I got jealous.â
âHow? Youâre okay with the others,â I ask. Why would he be jealous?
âI donât know. Maybe itâs because I donât know Isaac very well. And I havenât heard you talk about him before,â he admits.
âThereâs a reason I havenât talked about him before. Heâs not important to me,â I shrug.
âCan I ask how he found out what you are?â
âI told him,â I say with a sigh. âMy center told me to trust him. So I listened. As soon as he saw I wasnât okay, he stopped and apologized. He even helped me get away.â
âI donât like that he tried something with you,â he confesses, looking at his hands.
âIâm not a big fan of it either,â I say with a wobbly smile.
âIâm sorry for yelling. Itâs not your fault. I was afraid that you might choose him over me, and I just didnât know how to handle the situation,â he says with a wince.
âI get it, but it seems like every time you find out something you donât like, you start yelling at me. I canât do that,â I admit.
âIâm sorry, Della, I am. Iâll try harder, I promise,â he swears. âDonât leave me,â he adds in a whisper that breaks my heart. What?
âI wasnât going to. Whatâs going on?â I ask. How could he think that?
âYouâre not?â Oh my God. Iâve never seen him look so vulnerable.
I take him in my arms and hold him against me. âOf course not. We just need to communicate betterâthatâs all. Why would you think that?â I ask, smoothing his hair down.
âIâm older than you. Iâ¦I donâtâ¦fit. We havenât spent much time alone together. Most of our time together has been spent arguing. And my last girlfriend cheated and left me for someone else. Issac brought up all those feelingsâand I just thoughtâ¦â He shrugs as he lets his words trail off. I move his face to look at me.
âItâs only been a week. A busy week. We have a date tonight all by ourselves. Weâll work on talking more, but Iâve already chosen you as one of my consorts. I have no intention of being without youâ¦if youâll have me.â I smile softly, looking into those bright green eyes.
âOf course I want you. Thatâs all Iâve ever wanted,â he says, bringing his lips to mine. I pour my heart into the kiss as if I can ease his mind by showing him how much I care for him.
âWe better head inside. I have a hot date to get ready for.â I smile against his lips.
He hums and pulls me against him so Iâm straddling his lap while we continue kissing. Heat flushes through my body when he rests his hands on my ass under my skirt. I whimper against his kiss.
âOkay, letâs get readyâ¦â he groans.
âOh, Iâm ready,â I tease with a wiggle of my hips, making him groan again.
He squeezes my ass before letting me go. I reluctantly stand up with him, and we head inside.
I canât help but laugh at the three men waiting outside the door in some overly casual poses. Kade is reading a book while leaning against the wall. The book is upside down. Sorin is playing patty cake with Micha, who seems to be playing rock, paper, scissors. Very inconspicuous.
âWell, whenever you guys are done snoopingâ¦â Tenn chuckles.
âIâll be back. Iâm going to go get ready,â I announce, giving them each a kiss on the cheek before heading to the baths.
I chuckle at the sight of a rather blue-looking tub as I strip out of my uniform and slip into a sexy emerald-green thong and my dress, but I canât get the zipper up all the way. Damn it.
âI need some help with my zipper!â I holler out the door as I put my heels on. I hear the door open while Iâm putting two knives into my garter straps.
âHoly shit.â
Kade.
âDo you mind zipping me up?â I ask, pulling my hair over my shoulder.
âYou look beautiful, Della,â he whispers, stepping up to me, making my heart flutter. I feel his warm hands graze the skin of my back as he zips up my dress. He lays a sweet kiss on my shoulder. âAll done,â he whispers against my neck.
âThank you,â I say, turning to face him.
âAnytime. I better go before I make you late for your date.â He lets out a rueful chuckle. Then he leaves me after another lingering kiss.
I put on some eyeliner and mascara and call it good before heading toward the guys. I find them all in the entrance chatting.
âHey, boys,â I greet them.
âFuck,â Tenn breathes as I make my way down the hall. He looks delicious in a blue suit with a matching tie. Then it hits me. He matches my hair! That is so adorable!
âWe match.â I smile.
âItâs not an accident.â He grins down at me, then offers his elbow like a gentleman and leads me to the rest of the guys.
âYou look gorgeous, sweetness,â Micha says, laying a kiss on my cheek. âHave fun.â
Sorin lets out a hungry sound before spinning me into a dip and kissing the life out of me. âHave a good time. Iâll see you when you get back,â he whispers before kissing me again and spinning me into Kadeâs arms.
Still giggling, I pull Kade down to my lips.
âHave a good night, babe.â He smiles and walks me back to Tennâ¦~not Tenn, Gavin~, I remind myself. I need to start using his first name if heâs going to be one of my consorts.
âWeâll see you guys later,â he says, leading me over to a mirror.
We step through and I canât hold in my gasp.
âOh my God⦠Gavin, where are we?â
