She swallowed and looked at Nathael, trying to maintain her composure. Her pale face was filled with righteous indignation as she scolded, âThatâs nonsense! Who is spreading these rumors?â
Nathael was speechless.
He never expected that his patience would repeatedly lead her to question his abilities. It was utterly ridiculous!
Maggie squinted her eyes, unsure of how much he had heard.
Her determination to survive made her flatter him wholeheartedly, âWhoever is spreading these rumors should come and face me! How dare they say Mr. Harris canât do it? Mr. Harris is incredibly capable! Heâs the most capable person in the world!â
She continued to speak nonsense with all her might.
Nathael withdrew his hand, crossed his arms, and leaned against the wall, patiently watching her performance.
Maggie talked until her mouth was dry, and she ran out of things to say. She felt like she had hit rock bottom.
Nathael looked at her and asked with a deep voice, âHow capable am I?â
Maggie suddenly stopped talking.
Was he addicted? Wasnât he done ver
yet?
Indeed, itâs said that people tend to show off what they lack the most!
Nathael must have faced a lot of ridicule and mockery in this regard, so he loved to hear. others praise him.
Tsk tsk tsk⦠such a poor man.
Yeah, she needed to give him courage and confidence!
Maggie looked at him with pitiful eyes and said thoughtfully, âYouâre more amazing than you can imagine.â

Nathael stared at her for a while, then chuckled. He leaned close to her ear and responded with his husky voice, âThen you might have to shout a little louder.â
He turned around and left, seemingly in a good mood.
Maggie was speechless.
Was he sick?
He was seriously sick at that!
After leaving Nathaelâs house, Maggie received a call from Ronald and went back to the Cameronsâ house.
After becoming an adult, she felt she owed the Camerons a lot, so she moved out early. However, out of gratitude for the Cameronsâ kindness, she often returned.
But she never expected all the guilt she felt was a ridiculous scam.
Half an hour later, Maggie arrived at the Cameronsâ house and received a photo from Leo.
Maggie quickly flipped through it and laughed coldly.
The timing was perfect.
The photos showed Joseph and Vanessa having an affair. Some angles were unclear, but they were enough to identify the relationship and identities of the two.
As soon as she entered the gate, she saw Master Cameron and Madam Cameron sitting in the main seats with furrowed brows. Ronald and his wife, Olivia Pierce, loudly defended Maggie, âDad, Mom, letâs wait for Maggie to return and hear her explanation first. Maggie has always been a good girl. She wouldnât do such a thing.â
Sierra sat indifferently on the side, playing with her phone. Josephâs face was much uglier. His lips tightly pressed together, as if he had been betrayed.
Hearing the commotion, everyone turned their heads to look at Maggie.
Madam Cameron had a stern face and smashed the teacup in her hand on the table. She shouted, âKneel down!â
Maggie refused to kneel. Seeing the trialâlike situation, she couldnât help but speak, âMadam, I wonder what I did wrong?
you didnât
Her foster mother, Olivia/quickly protected her and asked, âMaggie, what happened last night? Who was the man with you? We went to your rented house to find you, but come back all night.â

âHow did our family raise you? Even if you are not of the Cameronsâ blood, we have always treated you as our child! But look at what youâre doing now. Youâve wasted all the education weâve given you. Youâre simply shameless!â Madam Cameron scolded harshly.
Maggie was unsure why the Camerons had called her back initially, but as she made her way back, she glanced at Josephâs messages and formed a rough id
It was likely because Joseph had called the previous night, and Nathael had answered, causing Joseph to feel betrayed.
Tsk tsk tskâ¦
They could send her to someone elseâs bed, but they couldnât accept her betrayal.
âMaggie, who was the man with you last night?â Josephâs face turned pale. He never expected that the woman who had always been obedient and deeply in love with him would betray
him!
âMaggie, itâs not that I donât want to help you, but youâre being unfair to my brother.â Sierra pur down her phone and looked at Maggie with innocent eyes. Her expression was filled with helpless sympathy.
Maggie wiped away imaginary tears, lowered her head, and pretended to be aggrieved. âAfter all, Iâm just an adopted daughter. Youâve never trusted me.â
Her words successfully caused the expressions of the Camerons to subtly change.
Ronald immediately spoke up, âMaggie, that really hurts everyoneâs feelings. Mom is just worried about you. Tell us, have you been mistreated in any way?â
Madam Cameron was also calculating in her mind. Although they had never seriously considered marrying Maggie to Joseph, they didnât want her to fool around and diminish her value. After all, her good looks were a rare commodity. They had raised her for so many years and still planned to marry her off for a good price.
Of course, they also needed to appropriately appease her. They couldnât let this girl feel neglected and develop other thoughts, which would be detrimental to their family.
Madam Cameron immediately said, âI was too harsh. But Iâm just worried about you. Tell us, is there something hidden in all this?â
Maggie lowered her eyes and spoke gently, âAfter the Adams banquet ended yesterday, I met with Nathael again, hoping to discuss the Chronopolis project with him. But I couldnât handle my alcohol and somehow fell asleep in his car.â
up
Maggieâs words were partly true and partly false, making it impossible to refute.

âBut you didnât come home afterwards.â Madam Cameron spoke in a deep voice without indicating whether she believed it or not.
Maggie realized she couldnât deceive her, so she promptly admitted, âYes, Nathael kicked me out of the car. My phone had no battery. I was wearing a dress and had no money with me. It took me several hours to walk home.â
As she spoke, tears welled up in her eyes, displaying her distress and endurance.
Iâm sorry, Nathael. But for now, youâll have to take the blame.
After all, one more accusation wouldnât make much of a difference.
Maggieâs explanation was flawless, and most importantly, they had no evidence besides that single phone call. Judging by her behavior, they mostly believed her.
Joseph remained silent, seemingly the only one who harbored doubts.
Maggie paid no attention to him. Whether he believed her or not was inconsequential at the
moment.
Master Cameronâs thoughts had already shifted to the Chronopolis project. After all, whether Maggie had a relationship with someone else was irrelevant to him. This commotion was merely their way of exerting control over her.
âWhat did Nathael mention about the Chronopolis project?â His cloudy eyes fixed on Maggie, brimming with impatience.
