Chapter 119
Rebirth of the Wife in Despair by Tess Munoz
Chapter 119 This Minor Injury Wonât Kill Me Upon receiving a call from the school, Eric immediately canceled his meeting and rushed over. In reality, Gavin could have handled the matter on his own. There was no need for Eric to personally show up.
Gavin hesitated before saying, âDo you really want to expel Hector from school and sentence him to ten years in prison? As far as I know, all of this was caused by Ms. Eileen.â
Eric stared at him intently before looking out the window. A cold aura surrounded him. âDo you think itâs her fault too?â
Suddenly, Gavin realized he had said something he shouldnât have. He lowered his head and murmured, âI would never dare.â
âAfter all these years, donât forget who youâre working for!â Eric asserted firmly as he stood up from his chair. He gave the man a cold and sharp gaze before turning and walking away. Just as he reached the door, Gavin declared, âI serve only you.â
The moment he decided to keep me by his side back then, my life was destined to be his. He was the one who gave me a second chance at life.
Eric stopped in his tracks. âIâm not the one paying your salary!â
Sheâs becoming increasingly disobedient now. Iâve never interfered with her school matters, and self- improvement is good. But if she wants to spread her wings and escape from the Swan family, itâs a delusion! She has become smarter, but she has misplaced her priorities. So, all she will receive is a harsher punishment.
In the lounge, Eileen stood up, avoiding Jasperâs gaze.
âEric should be done discussing things. Iâll go and take a look,â she said.
She opened the door, barely faltering in her steps. In her other hand, she held the salve given. by Jasper.
Eric was smoking on the balcony while waiting for her. Apart from social obligations, Eileen rarely saw him smoke.
Gavin alerted him to her presence, and Eric extinguished the half-smoked cigarette on the guardrail.
Eileen watched him approach. Her gaze then shifted to Jasper, who also exited the lounge. For some reason, she felt guilty, as though she had been caught doing something wrong.
Eric reached her, and she found herself sandwiched between the two men. There seemed to be a strange tension between them, making her feel oppressed. It was as though a silent battle was taking place in the air.
Eric was the first to speak. âItâs been a long time, Mr. Smith.â
Jasper simply nodded in response.
He was a few years younger than Eric, but his presence was in no way inferior to Ericâs.
However, he was different from Eric. Eric had been navigating the business world for many years, experiencing danger and violence. He had climbed his way to the top, using any means necessary to achieve his goals. Crafty by nature, he was exceedingly cunning.
On the other hand, Jasper had always relied on his powerful family. From a young age, he had lived a sheltered life of luxury.
Even after inheriting the Smith Corporation, he still had the Smith and Friedman families as his strong backers.
If these two men became real enemies, Eileen couldnât even begin to imagine the bloodshed and chaos that would ensue.
When it came to playing dirty, Jasper couldnât match Eric.
In truth, Eric was the one behind the truck accident back then.
Jasper said to Eileen, âIâll come and pick you up tonight.â
Eileen dared not look at Eric. She nodded slightly. âOkay.â
âIs something wrong?â Eric asked Eileen.
Feeling his intense gaze on her, Eileen explained, âMr. Smith helped me today, so I invited him to dinner.â
Eric nodded. âIndeed, thatâs only fair. But all things considered, as your brother, I should be the one extending the invitation. I will take care of everything for tonight. Mr. Smith, would you mind if I bring my sister along?â
âMr. Smith!â Richard interjected.
Jasper waved his hand, cutting Richard off. He chuckled lightly and said casually, âOf course not.â
âSee you tonight,â he said, looking at Eileen with a gentle expression.
Eileen nodded. âSure.â
Afterwards, Jasper left. He sat in the back of the car, his mood somber. âHave you found anything about the car accident back then?â
âIâm sorry, Mr. Smith. Weâve checked all the vehicles from that night. When we found the truck, it was in a junkyard, but the driver... was nowhere to be found. Moreover, we canât find any information about him. Itâs as though someone is deliberately concealing it. Anyway, this incident doesnât feel like an accident to me,â Fabian answered.
Jasper closed his eyes. âThereâs no need to investigate further. Itâs not worth our time to pursue someone like that.â
The hidden meaning in his words struck Fabian, and the answer seemed to surface within him.
Meanwhile, Eileen followed Eric down the stairs, both of them remaining silent.
At the doorway, she saw Vera and Yvette descending the stairs.
Yvette approached Eileen. âAre you okay? Iâm so sorry! I shouldnât have gone to Mr. Gardner. Itâs all Hectorâs fault for misunderstanding things. Heâs the one with ulterior motives. It has nothing to do with you. Also, I got the test paper from Mr.
Gardner. You did amazing, Eileen!â
She excitedly pulled the folded test paper out of her pocket and continued, âDo you know you ranked second in the exam? My goodness... Eileen, youâre truly incredible.â
Eileen stared blankly at the test paper, unable to utter a word.
So... I got into the school based on my own abilities and not because of Yvetteâs connections.
After learning that, it felt like a huge weight had been lifted off her shoulders.
âThank... Thank you...â
âAnd besides...â Yvette nudged Eileen with her elbow. âMy brother told you not to feel guilty. Hector is mentally unstable, and her motherâs uremia is already in the late stages. Even if her mother had the money for treatment, she wouldnât survive the surgery.
Itâs not your fault, Eileen. This time, my brother punished me too. I have to copy a book three hundred times.â
âReally?â Why is she laughing so happily despite being punished?
âYeah. The second thing he said made me happy even though I was being punished.â
âIâm glad everything has been resolved. Eric, is Hector going to prison?â Vera asked.
âMost likely. We just have to wait for the courtâs decision,â Eric replied.
He might receive a prison sentence of six to ten years.
In fact, it could be even longer than that. If they intervene, Hector could potentially be sentenced to life imprisonment.
Initially, they demanded fifty thousand. Not only did they fail to receive a single penny, but they also ended up losing everything they had.
Realizing that they had provoked someone they couldnât afford to offend, they all distanced themselves and fled, one after another.
Their sole motive was simply money.
Unfortunately, they picked the wrong person to mess with.
Suddenly, Eileen noticed a group of familiar figures up ahead. Among them, Nigel and Silas stood out. Elm was also among them.
There was also a boy in a wheelchair, likely âGeorge,â whom Paola often mentioned. He was only sixteen years old, an orphan who grew up in a fishing village, relying on the kindness of others to survive.
They donât seem as terrible as I imagined. When I had a knife against my neck, he was the one who rushed forward and tightly grasped Hectorâs hand, giving me a chance to escape.
Paola smacked George on the head. âI told you there was no need to come, but you insisted. Look, all that effort was for nothing!
Not only did you not receive any compensation, but she doesnât even bother to spare you a glance.â
âPaola, as long as everyone is okay, thatâs all that matters. This minor injury wonât kill me.â
George had lived in her house since he was a child, so Paola considered him her own brother. The thought of ungrateful Eileen made her seethe with anger.
Ever since George was hospitalized, Eileen never visited him even once. She didnât even say a simple âthank you.â It would be better if he had just let her die!
