Reconciliation

Dragons Rage

King's Landing

A few days later

Daemion and Heleanas chambers

Daemion was seated on his table, carving a knight out of dragon bone for his newborn daughter. He smiled as he saw Heleana sleeping next to little Daenerys. The princess didn't want to be away from her or let any of the wetnurses breastfeed her. She wanted to do it herself.

Just then, he heard a knock on the door. Come. Daemion said. Rhaenyra entered the room and looked at her son.

"Daemion." Rhaenyra greeted.

"Mother." Daemion greeted back.

"I've come to tell you that we're leaving for Dragonstone." Rhaenyra said.

"We'll join you as soon as Heleana is ready." Daemion said.

"She's beautiful." Rhaenyra said. She was fawning over her granddaughter and was proud of her son.

Daemion smiled. "Yes, she is."

"I know we haven't really spoken much since you left to tour the realm, but I wish to fix what's broken." Rhaenyra said.

Daemion sighed. "I know, but I'm not ready now. We'll talk when we're on Dragonstone." Rhaenyra kissed her son on his head and left the room.

Dragonstone

A few days later

Rhaenyra, Daemon, and their family were having dinner, and there was too much tension in the room.

"How's Daenerys?" Rhaenyra asked her son, but Daemion kept eating.

"She's well, sister." Heleana answered. "She keeps up at night, but it only tells me that she's healthy."

Rhaenyra smiled. She then looked at Daemion. "I was thinking we could go for a flight on the morrow?" She suggested. "Would you like that."

"No." Daemion immediately answered. "Take Daemon or Jace."

"It's improper to be disrespectful to your mother. Don't you think?" Daemon asked.

"I think it's disrespectful to wed my mother 4 days after her husband is murdered." Daemion snapped back. "Why don't we all just finish our food so that this wretched night could end."

"It pains me that you look upon me with such distain." Rhaenyra tearfully said. "I wish you could see that I'm trying to protect you."

"You truly believe that, don't you?" Daemion chuckled. "I knew you were a liar, but now I see that you're just delusional."

"Brother, please." Jace begged.

"No. She needs to hear this, as do you, Luke and Joffery." Daemion said. "Her choices have living consequences."

"Daemion, please stop." Rhaenyra begged.

"My love." Heleana tried as well.

"She lied to us! To all of us! Her lust is the reason why we hide out here on Dragonstone!" Daemion then looked at Daemon. "You may say that you married for our protection, but the truth is that you still cling on to the man you've always wanted!: The young Velaryon prince then slammed his hand on the table and furiously rose up. "You signed our deaths the moment you gave birth to us. We see the stares and hear the whispers! Look at me!" Daemion yelled at his mother. "You wonder why I'm angry? It's because of you... Mother." Daemion then walked out of the halls to clear his head.

"I'm sorry." Heleana whispered.

"It's alright." Rhaenyra assured her sister.

"I'll go after him." Daemon said.

"No. Let me." Jace followed Daemion.

Auroths mont

Daemion had Auroth saddled and went he left the cave, and he saw Jace waiting for him on Vermax.

"What are you doing here?" Daemion asked.

"Fancy a flight, brother?" Jace inquired.

Daemion nodded, and the brothers flew to Claw Isle.

"I needed this cool air." Daemion said.

"Yes, you seemed warmer than dragon fire back there." Jace chuckled.

"When I saw myself in the mirror for the first time, I cried. Yours and Luke's skin is lighter than mine. I didn't care that we were from different fathers. I only cared about how dangerous it was that we were alive." Daemion told his brother.

"Is that why you paint?" Jace asked.

Daemion nodded. "Paintings tell stories that are sometimes better than reality. Harwin Strong had a story that I was his son. Mother had a story that we were the sons of Laenor Velaryon. Now she's made another story that tells the tale of how Daemon Targaryen will protect her family."

Jace sighed. "When I found out Harwin was my true father, I was devastated. He was a good man, and he cared for us."

"I need to know who my father is." Daemion said.

"I'll help you find out." Jace said.

"Why?" Daemion asked.

Jace smiled. "You are my brother. Not my half brother. My brother."

"Thank you, Jace." Daemion smiled.

"Do you know mayhaps where to start looking?" Jace asked.

"When I was in Dorne,  Prince Qoren Martell mentioned that I have Dornish features. I can start there." Daemion said.

"Let me know what you find and how I can help." Jace said, and Daemion nodded. We should head back. The boys flew back to Dragonstone.

Rhaenyra and Daemons chambers

Daemion entered his mother's room and found her removing her necklace.

"Leave us." Rhaenyra told Daemon. Daemon walked past Daemion and closed the door.

"Who is my father?" Daemion asked.

"Daemion-" Rhaenyra was cut off by her son.

"Who is my father?" Daemion asked again.

Rhaenyra was in tears. "Sit down." Daemion then took a seat. "I want you to know that I love you. From the first moment I found out that I was pregnant, I have loved you and will continue to do so until my last breath. When I was younger than you, I was rebellious, and I always wanted to venture out into the world. When my father named me heir, that changed a lot for me."

"Not everything." Daemion pointed out.

"When I met your father, I could see that he was a good man, and when I took him into my bed, I wasn't thinking about how... dangerous it was." Rhaenyra said.

"Is my father still alive?" Daemion asked.

Rhaenyra took a deep breath. "No. He was a merchant from Dorne. I never learned his name. I didn't want to tell you because I knew you'd be devastated."

Daemion nodded. "Thank you for telling me, Mother. Now, I can finally put this wounded animal to rest." Rhaenyra hated herself for lying to Daemion, but she had no choice. She couldn't risk her son leaving to seek out his true father. He walked to the door but stopped. "There's something I need to tell you."

"What is it, my son?" Rhaenyra eagerly asked.

Daemion walked to the chair and sat down. He then looked at his mother. "Your nose twitches when you lie."

"I... I'm not lying." Rhaenyra said.

"It just twitched again." Daemion pointed at her nose. "Who is my father?"

"Daemion, please..." Rhaenyra begged. She didn't want to open this door.

"I already know his name, mother. I just need you to say it." Daemion said.

"H... how do you know?" Rhaenyra asked.

"I think I've always known. My skin. My hair, but do you wish to know what confirmed it? The fact that he was close to you." Daemion said. "Say his name, mother."

"S... Ser Criston Cole." Rhaenyra finally confessed.

"I fucking hate you." Daemion rose up and left his mother's room.

"Daemion! Daemion!" Rhaenyra called her son back, but he kept walking.

2 years later

King's Landing

Tower of the hand

"They arrive today?" Otto asked.

"Yes." Viserys wanted a celebration for Daenerys' second nameday. Alicent told her father, and Otto clenched his fist because there was no celebration for Jaehaerys or Jaehaera.

"I've been thinking... perhaps we should try to get Daemion to our side." Otto said. "I've heard that he and his mother have not been in good terms these last few years."

"Daemion Velaryon is not easy to control. He's as wild as that dragon of his." Alicent spat. "He only listens to Heleana."

"Then we must guide Heleana to reason with Daemion. You want your daughter back, and she's the only one who can convince Daemion that his mother is ill-suited for the throne." Otto said.

"I'll talk to her during the celebration." Alicent said and Otto nodded.

Royal chambers

As soon as Daemion arrived, he wanted to see his grandfather. Unfortunately Viserys had only gotten worse. The king could barely walk without feeling pain.

"Daemion." Viserys smiled at he greeted his grandson.

"Grandsire." Daemion greeted.

"I... I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." Viserys apologized.

"About what?" Daemion asked.

"I should... should've told you." Viserys said. "The S... Song of Ice.. and F... Fire."

"I don't understand." Daemion said.

"The darkness in the north. It's coming... and you must protect the Kingdoms." Viserys wheezed.

"Grandsire. I don't understand." Daemion said. Daemion remembered what Prince Qoren said to him 2 years ago and this was confirmation.

Just then Otto entered the kings chambers. "Your grace. The princess Rhaenyra and prince Daemon have arrived."

"That is good to hear. Let us prepare for the celebration." Viserys said.

"Are you sure you're strong enough to travel, grandsire?" Daemion asked.

"I am now." Viserys smiled. "I will be present for my great granddaughters nameday celebration."

"Very well. Let me help you." Daemion proceeded to help his grandfather get dressed and ready for the celebration.

Kingswood

A few hours later, the royal family arrived in the Kingswood and were greeted by the noble lords and ladies of the realm.

Once they got in the tent, Viserys could tell that there was tension between Daemion and Rhaenyra.

"You remind me of your mother." Viserys told Daemion. "She was stubborn, angry and only ever did what she wanted when she was your age."

"The last part hasn't stopped." Daemion retorted.

Viserys chuckled. "I don't know why you're angry at her, and I will stay out of it, but whatever it is, I know you can forgive her."

"Daemion." Rhaenyra called her eldest son. "Come with me."

Daemion was about to protest, but Viserys spoke up.

"Daemion would be delighted to go with you, daughter." The king smiled.

Daemion sighed. He looked at his wife who was talking to Lynora and Aemond, and he saw his daughter playing with Jaehaerys, Jaehaera, Aegon and Viserys.

"Very well." Daemion walked with his mother and they rode off on horseback. They finally stopped deep in the Kingswood. "Well we're here. Far from any green ears."

"You are so much like me." Rhaenyra said.

Daemion scoffed. "I'm nothing like you."

"That's not true. I'll admit you've not inherited all my traits, but I do see myself in you." Rhaenyra stated. "But I lack the honor you have. The dignity. You could've laid with Heleana any time you wanted, but you waited. You're as wild as Auroth, but you have patience."

"I want you to give the throne to Aegon. Name him your heir when he comes of age." Daemion said. They then climbed off their horses.

"You are my heir, Daemion." Rhaenyra said. "Why do you reject the throne out of anger? I don't understand, Daemion. Why are you so angry? Why are you so eager to renounce your birthright?"

"Let's see. You kept a secret hoping the realm would believe that we are Laenors sons. You got rid of Laenor. You lied to me about my true father-" Daemion was cut off by his mother.

"It's that where your rage burns brightest?" Rhaenyra inquired. "You're angry at me because I denied you your true father."

"My anger for you runs so deep, it's difficult to locate it's origin. Mayhaps I want to protect my family, or mayhaps I'm angry because I'm a product of a whores lecture." Daemion snapped and Rhaenyra slapped her son in his face.

"Watch your mouth!" Rhaenyra yelled. "You would do well to remember that I am still your mother."

"Say what you will, but it's your lust that made me what I am." Daemion said.

"And never once have I regretted having you or your brothers." Rhaenyra said. "In the years after my father married Alicent, I was angry, and yes I laid with Ser Criston Cole. When your grandsire suspected me, he blamed Daemon because I had spent the night out in the city with him as well. I never wanted to be a mother or have children. Not really. I... your grandsire sent moontea to me the next night and I spent hours staring at it before I emptied it all in my chamber pot."

"You should've drank it all." Daemion said.

"No I'm glad I didn't because in that moment I had hoped I was with child. I loved you before I was even sure I had you." Rhaenyra said. "And when you were born, it renewed my spirit. Even your grandsire was the happiest I've ever seen him. You brought light into a pit of darkness."

"What of Criston Cole? How did he receive the news?" Daemion asked.

Rhaenyra sighed. "After you were born, he came to my chambers and asked if you were his. I told him you were Laenors son. I asked him what would he have done if you were his child and he told me that he would strike you down as mercy. He was angry. I never loved Laenor. Not really, but we made a deal... to pursue our own instrests after he gives me an heir. We did try, but to no avail."

"And how did the Cole knight take the prospect of becoming your whore?" Daemion asked.

"Not well. He wanted us to run away and marry. Sell oranges in Essos, but my heart belonged to someone else." Rhaenyra said.

"And you have him." Daemion said. "You still don't see how your choices have consequences. You don't give into your lust for Daemon and you'd never fuck Ser Criston. You wouldn't be forced to marry Laenor. You'd be happy."

Rhaenyra smiled at her son. "You're right, but as I've said, I don't regret having you, Daemion. If I didn't have you, I'd be angry still. You wouldn't have Heleana and Daenerys. Your grandsire will still be lost. You brought happiness to so many people, the last thing I want is for you to hate yourself."

Camp

"I was thinking after the celebration you could stay here for a while." Alicent suggested to Heleana.

"We had a deal, mother. Daemion and I spend three years with Rhaenyra and three years with you and father." Heleana reminded her.

"I just thought perhaps you could have Daenerys spend more time with Jaehaerys and Jaehaera. She seems to have more fun with them." Alicent said.

Heleana looked at her daughter playing with the other children. "She loves to play. Even with Aegon and Viserys. My daughter will be happy where ever she is, but we all agreed on the terms." Alicent sadly looked at Heleana.

"Your dress is wonderful, princess." Lynora complemented Heleanas red and black dress with golden dragon embroidery to break the awkwardness.

"Thank you, my lady, and yours as well." Heleana complemented Lynoras green dress with golden lion and dragon embroidery.

"It's to show respect to my husband and the house of his mother." Lynora said. "I still kept the golden lion." She smirked.

"Where is Aegon?" Heleana asked.

"Drinking, I'm sure." Lynora said.

"Ser Criston, go find Aegon." Alicent commanded.

"Your grace." Ser Criston bowed and left.

Alicent saw Otto looking at her and he nodded at his daughter.

"Heleana did you ever think of your husband embracing the Seven?" Alicent asked.

"We have spoken about it, but he chose against it. I respect his choice." Heleana said.

"There are many books in the capital. Perhaps you and he could stay for a few days and you could teach him?" Alicent suggested.

Heleana smiled at her mother. "He knows the scriptures mother. Daemion doesn't need it."

"What of Daenerys? She would need it some day." Heleana said.

"Yes and when she's old enough we will let her decide." Heleana stated.

Alicent then looked at her father again and shook her head. The Hightower queen and her father had tried everything to convince Heleana to stay at their side and they were failing.

"Daemion! Where's my nephew?! Daemion!" A drunken Aegon stumbled in.

"Father stop him." Lynora told her father.

"Daemion!" Aegon yelled.

"My prince. Prince Daemion has taken a walk with his mother." Tyland said.

"But I want to drink with him!" Aegon yelled. "Someone find Daemion now!"

"Take him to the wheelhouse now!" Viserys yelled.

"Yes, your grace." Tyland and Otto took Aegon to the wheelhouse.

A few hours later

Rhaenyra and Daemion stumbled upon a White Hart.

"Beautiful, isn't he?" Rhaenyra asked.

"He's magnificent." Daemion said.

Rhaenyra looked at her son. "Go. It's your time, my son."

Daemion walked to the White Hart and touched the beasts nose. The animal lowered his head and Daemion put his own head against it. Rhaenyra smiled at her son.

Once they parted ways, Daemion walked back to his mother. "I'm sorry, Mother."

"As am I. I love you so much, and I will protect you and your family with my life. You, your brothers, Heleana and Daenerys are everything to me." Rhaenyra tearfully said and Daemion immediately hugged his mother.

"I love you, mother." Daemion said. The White Hart appeared again and Daemion smirked.

The next morning

"You should send out riders to find Rhaenyra and Daemion." Jace suggested.

"No. They'll be fine." Daemon said.

"What is that?!" A nobleman shouted.

"The heir and her son!" Another nobleman shouted.

"They brought a beast with them." Another noble lady shouted.

"What in the Seven hells is going on?" King Viserys asked.

Once the royal family left their tents, they saw Daemion arrive with his mother and with them was the White Hart. While Rhaenyra stayed with the White Hart, Daemion walked to his wife and daughter.

"Come with me." Daemion said and Heleana toom his hand while holding his daughter. They approached the White Hart and the stag knelt down. Daemion the took Daenerys and placed her on the White Hart's back. Heleana smiled.

"To Prince Daemion Velaryon and Princess Heleana Targaryen for their daughters second nameday!" Viserys shouted and all the attendees applauded. Otto and Alicent however were seething.

King's Landing

Daemion and Heleanas chambers

Heleana was with Lynora while Daemion painted a portrait of Daenerys on the White Hart. He then heard a knock on the door.

"Come." Daemion said and ser Criston entered the room.

"My prince." Ser Criston closed the door behind him.

"It must be like looking in a mirror to you isn't it? Well a younger, more intelligent version or yourself. " Daemion arrogantly asked.

"What do you mean?" Ser Criston asked.

"When I was 5 years old, you took me and Aegon hunting in the Kingswood Aegon was trying to teach me while you watched, and when I missed my mark, you ridiculed me for it." Daemion said. "That wasn't the worst part. It's what you did after that still stayed with me. Do you remember?"

"I do." Ser Criston said.

"What was it? Ah yes. You grabbed the bow from me and said I wasn't man enough. You called me pathetic and when I tried to apologize, you struck me right in my face and kicked me 4 times while I was on the ground." Daemion said. "You swore Aegon to secrecy, and when my mother asked what happened, I told me her that I don't remember. Aegon told her that I fell, but we know the truth."

"My prince, I'm sorry." Ser Criston apologized.

"You're only sorry because you know the truth... father." Daemion said with disgust and Criston Coles eyes widened. "My mother told me that you wanted to kill me as a babe. You should've because if there's one thing I'll do before I die, it's to kill you, Criston Cole."

"I wasn't sure until after your wedding, but I had suspected before that." Ser Criston said.

"And now you want to make up for your mistake. That won't happen. Not now. Not ever." Daemion spat.

"Daemion please-" Ser Criston was cut off by Daemion.

"It's prince Daemion Velaryon. Son of Ser Laenor Velaryon." Daemion spat. "You may go." Ser Criston felt nothing but shame and left the room.

Lynoras chambers

After Heleana left Lynoras room, Aegon entered.

"It's as if you're trying to make yourself look like a fool." Lynora spat.

"You're too loud." Aegon groaned as he laid on Lynoras bed.

"You're not sleeping here." Lynora said.

"Just for tonight. I don't wish to fight." Aegon said.

"Well then get out of my room." Lynora demanded.

"Just... just give me..." Suddenly Lynora heard snoring. Aegon was passed out on her bed.

"Fucking animal." Lynora spat. She then left the room.

Dragonstone

A few days later

"Did you find what you were looking for." Jace whispered.

"I did." Daemion said.

"And?" Jace asked.

Daemion smirked. "Some things are better left unsaid, brother. Come. Mother is waiting for us."

Daemon and Rhaenyras chambers

"Criston Cole?" Daemon asked in disgust.

"It was supposed to be you." Rhaenyra said. She had just told Daemon the truth about Daemions father.

"I know, but Criston Cole? Dornish thing aside, the man's a petty bitch." Daemon said.

Rhaenyra chuckled. "You sound quite jealous."

"How did Daemion take the news?" Daemon asked.

"As expected, he was angry, but he isn't anymore." Rhaenyra said.

"Has he chosen a side?" Daemon inquired.

"I didn't want to push him. He seemed very happy at the celebration." Rhaenyra said.

"Mm. He has to decide before fate decided for him." Daemon said.

"He will, and I will support his decision as his mother." Rhaenyra said.

Daemion and Heleanas chambers

Daemion looked at the three eggs that Heleana wanted for their daughter.

"They will hatch." Heleana said.

"I'm sure they will." Daemion smiled. "I'm glad Daenerys enjoyed the celebration."

"She had fun with the other children." Heleana said. "What's wrong?"

"There's something I need to tell you. My mother finally told me who my father is." Daemion said.

"Who is it?" Heleana asked.

"It's Ser Criston Cole." Daemion said. "While you were with Lynora, he came to our rooms. He tried to apologize, but I didn't want to hear it."

"Do you think that you'll ever forgive him for what he's done to you?" Heleana asked. Daemion had already told his wife what Ser Criston did to him as a child.

"No." Daemion said. "He chose his path long ago. He chose to be the queens lapdog because my mother rejected him. He's a coward."

"They want us to choose sides." Heleana said.

"I know." Daemion said.

"I only want to be with you and Daenerys." Heleana said.

"I promise I will never leave you." Daemion then hugged his wife. An hour later they laid in their and fell asleep.
