Bury My Heart Part 1

Dragons Rage

Casterly Rock

Twenty years ago

"Are you taking her with you?" Jason Lannister asked his twin brother, Tyland.

"No." Tyland said. "She'll distract me."

"You've just lost your wife. Leaving your daughter here isn't the best option." Jason said.

"Every time I look at Lynora, I only see my Nora." Tyland said. "I must leave." He then started walking. Tyland Lannister was called upon by the king to serve as master of ships. He had planned to take his wife, Eleanora Reyne, and his daughter Lynora, but Eleanora suddenly fell ill and died days later.

"Father. Where are you going?" A 4 year old Lynora Lannister asked.

Tyland knelt down to his daughter. "I'm going to King's Landing. I'm to serve as the master of ships. "

"May I come with?" Lynora asked.

"No, my cub." Tyland said. "But I will come back for you, I promise."

Lynora smiled, and Tyland left Casterly Rock. Lynora waited for years for her father to fetch he, but he never came.  On her 14th nameday, it was clear that her father had no interest in her, and she promised that she would never do this to her children.

Present day

Alicents chambers

Alicent and Ser Criston got dressed very quickly. The Cole knight left the dowager Queens chambers immediately after he got dressed.

"Lynora. What do you mean they killed your boy and burned Heleanas chambers?" Alicent asked.

"They're dead. Heleana, Daenerys, Maelor, Maella and... Jaehaerys. They're dead." Lynora said as she was still rocking her daughter.

The news was still shocking to Alicent. She needed to see this herself.

"Come." Alicent helped Lynora up and had her seated on the couch. "Stay here." The dowager Queen left her chambers and went to the tower of the hand to inform her father. As she passed her daughters chambers, she saw the room burnt and charred skin of an adult, a toddler, and two babies on the bed. Her daughter is dead. Her Heleana is dead. Alicent could only cry as she kept walking to her fathers chambers

Tower of the hand

"The gates have been shut." Otto said. "The search progresses. The villain will be found. This act...the children."

"The children... are dead. Their pain is ended." Alicent said as she was trying to hold back her tears. "But what they've done to my girl..." Alicent broke down and cried. No mother should go through the loss of a child, and now she understands what Rhaenyra is feeling when she lost Lucerys.

"Yes." Otto walked to his daughter. "And they will pay for this." He put his hands in her shoulders.

"Let me go." Alicent walked away from her father. "Who will pay for this?"

"Whoever did this or caused it to be done." Otto said.

"And what if the hand that's done it is not who must be blamed?" Alicent asked. "The gods punish us. They punish me."

"For what sin." Otto asked. Alicent had laid with another man. The Lord commander of the Kingsguard,  Ser Criston Cole, and it cost her the lives of her daughter and grandchildren.  "Daughter, listen to me. We will mourn as we must, but... some good may yet come from this." Otto said, and Alicent gave him a look of disgust.

Small council chambers

"And where were the members of this council when the murderer threatened their king?" Aegon furiously asked.

"Were you also threatened, your grace?" Tyland asked.

I could've been!" Aegon snapped and smacked Tylands cup out of his hand. "My son is my legacy! My son is heir to the Iron Throne!" He then looked at Ser Criston. "And where were you, the lord commander of my Kingsguard?"

"I was abed, your grace, having ordered the Night's Watch." Ser Criston quickly lied.

"Abed. Abed!" Aegon yelled. "Instead of safeguarding the sanctity of my family!"

"This is not the time for blind accusations, your grace." Otto said. "We'll know who did this soon enough."

"Who did...? What?" Aegon was surprised by Ottos' stupidity. "Is there any question whi did this? Who would do this save the queen of bastards?!" Larys entered the small council chambers. "The smug cunt of Dragonstone! There she sits on his rock, laughing at us. He's fucking laughing at me!" Aegon picked a cup and threw it against the wall. He then looked at his mother. "You wish her life to he spared."

Larys cleared his throat. "If I may, your grace. My Lords." He greeted. "The guards have detained someone. The man we apprehended is known to us. He's a gold cloak. Noted for his brutal nature. We caught him fleeing the Gate of the gods with a child's head in a sack."

"I'll kill him myself." Aegon rushed to exit the small council, but was stopped by Ser Criston.

"We'd do well to get what information we can from the blackguard." Otto said. "I trust in the mastery of your trade, Lord Larys." Larys bowed and left the small council chambers.

"Oh always studying, always protocol. We no our enemy!" Aegon yelled.

"A king may have more than one enemy, your grace." Jasper said. "We would do well to ascertain if this is your sister's hand, or if there's a serpent nestled closer to our buxoms."

"I suppose you're right, Ironrod." Aegon said. "It could be anyone. It could be anyone in this room."

"Lord Jasper is correct. In one sense, we must determine what happened. Or at the very least how they managed to get in here. Where we sleep." Otto said. "If we in the Keep are still peril. In another sense, of course...it doesn't matter."

"You want to blame Rhaenyra?" Tyland asked. "Tell the realm she has done this."

"I'll have the realm told nothing." Aegon insisted. "We were assaulted within our own walls. Within our own beds. I will not be seen as weak."

"Your already seen as weak, Aegon." Otto said.

"You fucking..." Aegon frustratingly threw more cups. "No!"

"A hasty coronation. A dragon escaping the pit. The people see an omen." Otto said. "They whisper in the streets. They say perhaps Rhaenyra should be queen."

"And so you would name her monster, slayer of infants?" Orwyle asked.

"I would do more than that. A funeral progress. Let them look upon the works of this pretender to the throne." Otto said.

"Father..." Alicent whispered.

"My king?" Otto ignored Alicent and waited for Aegon

"No. I will not have my little son's body dragged through the streets like a dead dog." Aegon said.

"They won't dragged! They'll be honored!" Otto corrected. "Escorted to the dragon pit to be burnt as Targaryen princes and princesses."

"Your grace..." Jasper was interrupted by Aegon.

"No." Aegon refused.

"Let no one say I do not grieve." Otto spoke up. "Heleana was my granddaughter. Jaehaerys, Daenerys, Maella and Maelor were my greatgrandchildren. I loved them. I will not have them die in vain. Those who declared for Rhaenyra, will they still support her when they hear of her depravity? Or will they rather not renounce her? The dead will do more for us now that a thousand knights in battle. You will have your war, your grace, but if you wait a short time, you may yet double your strength."

"Mother..." Aegon seeked council from Alicent.

Alicent walked to her son. "The hand sets on a difficult path, my darling, but it might be the right one."

"Let the Silent Sisters ready the princes and princesses for their final journey." Otto said. "And riding behind them, Queen Lynora, and with her, the Queen dowager."

"No." Alicent denied. "I do not wish to be a spectacle."

"The realm must see the sorrow of the crown, a sorrow best expressed through its most gentle souls." Otto said. "I think you'll all agree, the king himself must be spared."

"What of Princess Heleana?" Orwyle asked. "Has prince Daemion been told?"

"No." Otto said. "But now we have an opportunity to do what Daemions mother could not get him to do."

"And what is that?" Jasper asked.

"To choose a side." Otto said.

Black cells

Daemion Velaryon was bored. He barely slept and wanted to know what happened early this morning. His guard had left before Daemion could even ask.

The young Velaryon prince looked at a sharp stone. He had not painted in days and was filled with ideas. He took the stone and as he was about to pierce his finger with it to use his blood as paint, the doors opened, and Ser Criston entered.

"What do you want?" Daemion asked his father.

"Last night the castle was attacked." Ser Criston said. "It was an assassination attempt on prince Aemond."

"Well I had nothing to do with it." Daemion said. "If I kill your surrogate son, I want him to see it with his remaining eye."

"There were four casualties. Ones of great loss to the crown." Criston Cole said. "The young prince Jaehaerys' head was severed from his body."

"Fuck." Daemions eyes widened.

"And... and your chambers were burned." Criston said.

"Where are my wife and children?" Daemion asked and Ser Criston was silent. "Where are they?!" The Velaryon prince slammed the cell bars.

"They were burnt beyond recognition. The handmaiden, Zara has gone missing as well." Ser Criston said.

Daemion scoffed. "This is a lie. You're lying to me so that I can join you sycophants."

Ser Criston gave Daemion Daenerys dragon bone knight. It was burnt black.

"I'm sorry, Daemion." Ser Criston sadly said.

"You did this. You should've let me go! If I was with them I could've prevented all of this!" Daemion yelled. "I want to see them. Let me see them!"

"A... a funeral progress is to be held on the morrow. The king has allowed you to see them after." Ser Criston said. "I'm sorry, Daemion."

"Fuck you Criston Cole." Daemion whispered. "You hear me?! Fuck you!" Daemion started slamming against the bars like a madman and Criston Cole left the black cells.

Queen Lynoras chambers

"Lynora was still shaken by the loss of her son and her best friend." She had clutched the blanket that Heleana had sewed for Jaehaerys tightly.

"There's to be a funeral for Jaehaerys. And for Heleana and her children." Lynora heard Alicent from the entrance of her chamber doors. "We've been asked to ride on a wagon behind his body."

"I don't want to." Lynora said.

"Neither do I." Alicent said. "But when a thing like this happens... a blow to the king is a blow to the realm. When the people share our grief, they draw closer to us."

"I don't want them closer. I didn't know them how she did." Lynora referred to Heleana.

Alicent sadly nodded. "Sometimes we have to pretend."

"Why?" Lynora asked.

"We are representatives of the throne. We have a duty." Alicent said. She could see how distraught Lynora was and as a motherly figure, Alicent had to shove her own grief down. "Lynora, what you saw last night when you came to my room-"

"Heleana made this for my boy." Lynora interrupted Alicent and handed the blanket to her mother-in-law. The Lannister queen walked to her table and picked up one of Jaehaerys toys. It was a wooden knight and Lynora started tearing up.

Black cells

The next day

"So what are you in here for?" Daemion asked a man who was brought in two hours ago.

"A man stole from my land. A sheep." The man said.

"Hm. I take it you killed him?" Daemion asked.

"No. I chopped his cock off, and then I raped his wife and daughter right in front of him." The man proudly stated. Daemion clenched his fist. "I enjoyed killing them after. What are you in for?"

"Framed for killing king Viserys." Daemion said.

"You and I are gonna be good friends." The man chuckled.

Aegon entered the black cells where Daemion was held captive.

"The fuck do you want?" Daemion asked Aegon.

"To offer my apologies." Aegon said. "And my condolences."

"Why? It's your fault I'm in here." Daemion spat. "You're the reason I couldn't protect my family, and you lied to me about Maelor and Maella. "

"And I will regret that for the rest of my life." Aegon said. "I cannot bring back what you've lost, but I can get you vengeance. We've found the man who killed my boy. Perhaps he knows who murdered your family, or at the very least point us in the right direction."

"And what do you want in return?" Daemion asked.

"Your feud with Aemond. Put it on hold." Aegon said. "Just until this war is over and we are victorious. You may not know this, but I've always like you, Daemion. Bastard or no, I've always respected you."

"You do understand that if I kill your brother, you'd want revenge?" Daemion asked.

"I'll worry about that after the war." Aegon replied. "Your mother took your wife and children away from you. Don't you want revenge?"

"How do you know my mother was involved?" Daemion inquired.

"I had the culprit interrogated. He didn't mention anything about Heleana or your children." Aegon said.

"It tells me that he either did it or someone else did." Daemion said. "I will put my vengeance for Luke's murder on hold, but you will help me find the culprit who murdered my wife and children."

"Done." Aegon immediately agreed and opened Daemions cell door. "Pledge yourself to me and our cause, and you shall have your revenge."

"I'm not kissing your fucking hand." Daemion  spat.

"Occasionally, you would have to kneel before a king." Aegon said.

"Not doing that either." Daemion stated.

"How can I trust you, if you won't bend the knee?" Aegon asked.

"Fuck bending the knee, and fuck oaths. It's what got us in this war to begin with." Daemion said. "Every lord swore to my mother, and now half those lords turned against her."

"Very well. Do I have your word that you'll help save the realm then?" Aegon asked.

Daemion smirked. "You have my word."

"Keys." Aegon demanded.

"Your grace-" the knight tried to protest.

"Give me the fucking keys!" Aegon yelled. The knight gave him the keys and Aegon unshackled Daemion. "The funeral progress is taking place now. You're welcome to find your family at the dragonpit."

"Thank you." Daemion said.

Outside the city gates

The gates of the city opened as five bodies were escorted through to the dragonpit. The burnt bodies of Heleana, and her children were wrapped while Jaehaerys' head was sewed on to his body.

Knights marched forward as the queen Lynora and her mother-in-law, the dowager Queen Alicent rode behind. The bells tolled loudly.

"Behold the works of Rhaenyra Targaryen!" The announcer yelled. "Pretender to the throne! Kinslayer!"

"Deepest sympathies, my queen." A commoner said.

"Gods be with you, my queen." Another commoner said. "We support you, queen Lynora."

"Defiler of the innocent!" The announcer yelled. "Behold the works of Rhaenyra, the cruel! Behold the works of Rhaenyra Targaryen! Pretender to the throne! Kinslayer!"

Alicent held her tears back. Her first daughter. Her only daughter was burnt beyond recognition. She remembered when Heleana was born. She represented Alicents innocence.

Lynora couldn't hold in anymore tears as she looked around and saw the smallfolk give their sympathies, and all she wanted was to hold her son. Suddenly the carriage got stuck in the mud.

"What's happening?" A guard asked. "What's going on?"

"Movie it!" Another guard said.

Suddenly the smallfolk came to the carriage. "My queen!" A woman came to Lynoras side. "Queen Lynora!"

"No stop..." Lynora whimpered.

"Queen Lynora!" Another woman shouted. The smallfolk reached out to Lynora and the Lannister queen felt uncomfortable.

"Lynora?" Alicent called out and placed her hand on Lynoras cheek.

The guards were still struggling to move the carriage.

"A curse!" A man yelled. "A curse on Rhaenyra, the monstrous!"

"Mummy!" Lynora called out to her mother, Eleonora. "Mummy help me!"

"It's alright, I'm here, Lynora. I'm here." Alicent tried to calm Lynora down.

"I don't want to do this." Lynora started crying.

"It's alright. We're almost there." Alicent said.

Dragonpit

Hours later they finally arrived at the dragonpit and Alicent was surprised to find Daemion standing with Aegon.

"What is he doing here?" Otto asked when he arrived.

"He's lost his family, just as I have. He deserves to be here." Aegon said.

"Thank you, uncle." Daemion said.

"Let's get this over with." Alicent said.

Aegon nodded. "Dracarys, Sunfyre. The King commanded and his golden dragon set the bodies a flame." Daemion knelt down and started crying. He felt Aegon place a hand of comfort on his shoulder.

Lynora could only watch as her little boy's body was laid to rest along with her best friend and her children. She felt her father place a hand on her back.

"Let go off me." Lynora spat. "I warned you this could happen. This is all your doing." Lynora climbed on the carriage as did Alicent and they both left.

"He needs to be escorted to his cell, your grace." Otto said.

"No. Daemion is my family. My blood. He'll have a place in my court now that he has joined our cause." Aegon said.

"Is that true?" Otto asked Daemion.

"I-" Daemion was interrupted by Aegon.

"He doesn't have to answer." Aegon said. "We've spoken and that's enough. His vengeance on Aemond is pushed aside until we defeat Rhaenyra."

"Of course, your grace." Otto bowed his head.

"Anything you require, I will do my best to give to you." Aegon said.

"Thank you, uncle." Daemion said. "I wish to stay here for a while if it please you?"

"Of course." Aegon said. He then left with Otto and Tyland.

Daemion looked at the flames. "Everything they've take will burn, and from the ashes a new dynasty will be born." He said with nothing, but vengeance in his eyes.

Flee Bottom

Inside an inn, Zara walked inside a room and found two men. One was bald and the other had shoulder-length curly dark hair.

"And?" The bald headed man asked.

Zara smirked. "The work continues."
