Lone Wolf (h.s au)
I shift in my sleep, Harry's arm tightening around my body. My thumb rubs his knuckles and he sighs, my eyes slightly opening to see the room still dark. As I attempt to get up, I'm tugged back down and Harry pulls me into him.
"What's wrong?" he asks, his voice raspy from sleep.
"I can't sleep," I whisper, his hand grabbing mine. He tugs me to turnover and he rests his hand on my forehead, his eyes on mine.
"You're not sick," he tells me, my head nodding. He gets up and I begin to follow him, his head shaking. After a few seconds, he returns with a glass of water and hands it to me. I smile and thank him, his head nodding.
"My back is killing me," he says, my lips frowning.
"Why's that?" I ask, his fingers holding onto my hand.
"I usually sleep as a wolf," he explains, my head nodding.
"You don't have to sleep in here," I begin, but his eyes widen.
"No. I want to," he almost complains, my lips releasing a laugh.
"Don't worry. It was a suggestion. Stay here," I say, brushing his cheek lightly before I move back in the covers.
"Are you more comfortable as a wolf?" I ask, his head nodding.
"There is a day where I don't change. As in, I can't shift into a human until the next day," he explains, my fingers holding his.
"It's a full moon day. Cliché but true," he says, "And it's coming up too."
He continues talking to me, my lips curving and my eyes closing as we talk in whispers. I'm so comfortable that I start to fall asleep; the last thing I feel is his lips on my forehead.
When I wake up, I sit up and see the bed completely empty and loud barking outside. I get up, worried about Harry, and walk outside. The door shuts and immediately I recognize the alliance and Harry's wolf, a few others ones I've never seen. My body runs out and a wolf jumps in front of me, Harry's running at it. The wolf stands and comes down, scratching my cheek and hitting my side. I fall down and cry out in pain, Harry pushing the wolf into a tree. I clutch my arm and tears run into my cheek, arms wrapping around my body. My vision is so blurry from the tears that I can't make out anything.
I'm placed on something soft and someone wraps my arm in a sling before attending to my cuts. It feels as if my shoulder has been pulled off my body.
Muffled voices are heard and a cry emits from my lips, pain surging through my body.
"Get out of my way!" I hear someone yell, my hand taken in someone's.
"Get out!" he yells, my hand tightening due to the pain.
"Hold on, Mae," he says, my eyes fluttering to attempt to see better. I think I'm going into shock.
I feel a hot tongue run against my arm and cheek, my eyes squeezing at the burning feeling from Harry's wolf. It soon stops and I open my eyes, two hands running against my cheek.
"It's going to be okay," Harry whispers, my shoulder still in pain.
"It hurts so bad," I cry, his eyebrows furrowing as he frowns. Worry covers his face and I look up at him, his hand untying the sling.
He sits me up and I bite my lower lip, the pain hurting.
"He fucking dislocated your shoulder," he nearly yells, my eyes shutting.
He carefully takes my shirt off, my body in so much pain that I don't care. "It might hurt," he whispers, my head nodding.
A hand sets on my back and grips my shoulder, shifting it back into place. Harry takes my hand and rotates my arm in a circle.
"Feel better?" he asks, my head nodding.
He lifts me into his arms and sets me on his lap, wrapping his arms around me tightly. My arms wrap around his neck and his warm hands set on my back.
"What happened?" I ask, his fingers swaying.
"Woke up to Dean yelling. I ran out and got surrounded, but half the wolves were my alliance. It was an effort to protect you; Liam taking you out of sight. I took care of the fucker. He's alive but brutally beaten."
I nod and grip his shoulder, my eyes shutting as he comforts me.
"Harry, thank you."
He turns his head and I look at him, his green eyes bright. His lips are in a straight line and his fingers stay on my back, containing me in his warmth.
"You don't have to thank me. I'm here for you," he says, my hand coming to his cheek. I brush his hair back and he keeps his eyes on me.
He starts to lean down and I close my eyes but a knock on the door sounds, Niall's voice heard.
"Harry, Dean's out for you. You need to hurry," he says, my body getting off his.
"You rest. I'll be right back," he rushes, kissing my cheek before he walks out. He's out the door and I put on my shirt, the window to his room breaking. I scream and something hits my head, knocking me out.
I'm dizzy as I wake up, my eyes looking around a room not known to me. It looks underground and I sit up, my eyes seeing a picture of myself beside the bed.
"He won't get you out," a voice says, my eyes looking across the room to see Dean.
"Harry's been blocked out of the pack-line. He enters, you'll never see him again," he smirks, my knees coming to my chest.
"I'm sure he'll get me out," I say, his head shaking.
"Nope. But I do wish I'd been with you in high school. Hot damn, I'd ask you out in a heartbeat," he says, my eyebrows frowning.
"You turned into a pig over the years," I say, his lips releasing a laugh.
"I'm a wolf. It'll happen," he says, but immediately stiffens. He gets up and walks out of the room without saying a word.
"Hi Mae Mae," the voice of my father sounds, my body curling into a ball.
"I thought I raised you better than this. When someone says hello-"
"No. You left us," I say, cutting him off. I don't look at him and look straight ahead, nervous about what will happen here.
"You didn't come home from your business trip. Then I find you with another woman and then the fact that you're a wolf. You're sick," I spit out, his lips frowning.
"You have to understand me, Esmae. I loved your mother, but I love my wife in a way much different. You don't understand what it's like to not find your mate until you're 36. I thought your mother was it for me but I met-"
"I don't care! You left me and mom alone. We had nights where we didn't eat and days where I'd wait for you to come home so I could surprise you. I loved you and had hope but it has been stomped on so hard these past few weeks. You're a traitor; you never loved me or my mom," I say, not even crying. He doesn't deserve my tears.
"I love you very much, Esmae. You are my daughter. I'm protecting you from that boy because he's an angry person. He will lash out at you and you'll get hurt," he retaliates, but I shake my head.
"The only person who has hurt me is you. Harry's helped me through this whole thing unlike you who left me ten years ago," I state, his anger clear.
"Is everything okay?" someone asks, a woman walking in. Her skin is olive and her brown eyes mix with her black hair.
"Everything is fine, darling. This is Esmae," my father says, my eyes glaring at the woman.
"Or Mae. She likes Mae," he corrects himself, the woman smiling over at me.
"Hi Mae, I've heard so much about you," she says, but eyes narrow at her.
"Oh you have?" I ask, my father sighing.
"Mae, no," he tries, the woman assuring him it's okay.
"Oh, it's okay if he leaves his wife and daughter? Because we clearly have a different ideas of what 'okay' is," I test, the woman almost scared.
"I'll talk to you later," he says to her, my eyes rolling.
Once she's out of the room, I'm shoved against the wall, his hand around my neck.
"You don't speak to my wife like that. No one speaks to my wife like that," he grits, my head losing air as I choke.
He shoves me to the ground and I watch him walk out, my hands on my neck as I get my breathing regular again. I sit against the wall and cry, hating what my father has become.

As I sit on the bed, nearly asleep as I close my eyes to sleep for the tenth night here, the door opens and Liam signals for me. I get up and he puts his clothes on me to mask my smell. He guides me through a tunnel and shows me the way to Andy, my head nodding. I run and see Andy, his hand taking mine as we run. He lifts me onto his back and jumps, shifting in my arms. He runs as quickly as he can (apparently he's the fastest) and brings me to the pack-line. I climb off and he shifts, walking with me over to Niall. He grabs me and covers my mouth as we hide in the bushes, Dean showing up.
Once he's gone, we stand up and run. Louis is next and the two of us run.
"You can take those off. You smell," he jokes, my eyes rolling. I take the extra clothes off and hand them to him.
"You can see his place from here. He doesn't know you're coming because we couldn't leave. You're safe now," he says, my arms hugging him.
"Thank you so much," I say, his head nodding.
My feet run down to the cabin and I see lights on, a campfire going as Anne sits beside it. As I come closer, she looks up and stands.
"Are you okay? He's been angrier than ever," she starts, my head nodding.
"What happened to your neck?" she asks, observing the bruises inflicted upon my skin yet again.
"My father...don't worry. I'm fine," I assure her, walking into the house.
"It's the full moon. He's all wolf tonight," she explains, following with the fact he's in his room. As I walk in, his wolf is lying down and his head moves up. He gets off the bed and I hug his neck, running my hand against his fur. He nuzzles his face into my neck and licks the bruises on my skin, my hands grabbing the sides of his snout. I kiss the top of his head and he sits, his paw lifting and I grab it. Placing it on my shoulder, he lifts up slightly and rests his head beside mine.
"I'm going to bed," I whisper, his head nodding. His green eyes look in mine and he nudges me to his bed. I lie down and he sits beside the bed, setting his head on my stomach.
"Come up here," I say, his head shaking.
"Suit yourself Harry," I whisper, kissing his head again. My eyes close and I feel his nose on my forehead, his tongue lightly licking my skin. It's his kiss as a wolf, and I fall asleep with ease.
Two strong arms are around my torso when I wake up, Harry completely entangling me in his limbs. My hand attempts to move to his but he doesn't move. His embrace is tight and his body is warm.
"Harry," I whisper, his hand grabbing mine.
"Harry," I try again, this time his body moving. He lifts me onto his body and grabs my cheeks, kissing my forehead.
"I'm so sorry. I should've known," he rushes, my hands grabbing his shoulders.
"I'm fine," I say, his hands so warm against my cheeks.
"You came here with bruises on your neck. He hurt you and I couldn't even help," he says, my head shaking.
"Your alliance helped. I'm fine," I assure him, his eyebrows still frowned.
"You got hurt," he grumbles, my arms coming to rest above his head.
"But I'm alive. And you're right next to me. Everything is better now," I remind him, his hands moving to my waist.
"I just wish I could have been this way to see you last night," he says, my lips curving.
"It's okay. As long as you were here when I woke up, I would be fine."
