Chapter 18

018

Lone Wolf (h.s au)

Harry.

I roll onto my back, the warm presence beside me curling close to me. Mae grabs onto my side and I pull her onto me, wrapping her tightly in my arms.

Her hair falls on my chest and I press my hand on her cheek, holding her body to mine. Her dark lashes rest on her cheek, sleep still filled in her form. She's so beautiful and I have not let her out of my sight since the day we reconnected. But in that time, I've had my greatest revelation.

I'm in love.

As much as I've despised the entire mating process, I would never settle for anything more than this. Mae means the world to me; it's a wolf thing. The instant a wolf meets their mate, love is already seen when with them. I've been in denial for this long.

She's put up with all my shit attitudes and now I get to relish in the moment that I get to have her completely. I won't let anyone but me have her in such a way. I'm possessive over her. Mae is beautiful and I've seen how other men look at her. It makes me mad and it takes everything in me not to show them she's mine. But she's usually looking at me or holding my hand, calming me down.

I grab her hand, the small fingers wrapping around my thumb. My lips curve, adoring her petite figure. When I was a teenager, I thought short girls were cute. It wasn't like I thought they were hot or anything, but Mae blew me to another level. She almost a foot shorter than me, but she's everything I could ask for in a mate. Her body is the sexiest little thing; her toned muscles stronger than most give her credit for.

My lips press to her forehead, my eyes closing as I let her rest more. She's wearing my shirt again, the action I love. It shows me that she accepts me and has me all to herself. What's mine is hers.

Mae shifts slightly, curling closer into my chest. I make sure she stays asleep and she does, releasing a long sigh as she continues her slumber. Her hand tightens around my thumb and I kiss the bridge of her nose, loving who I am around her. I would have never imagined I would be here a year ago but now, I'd never want to be anywhere else.

Our conversation last night made me anxious. I used to love the idea of getting married and having a family with someone. Now that I know she'd like that too, it makes me excited for our future. When she laughed at me, thinking it was funny when I was joking around, it made me know that I'm whipped. Hell, I've never been so obsessed with another person before. I've had attraction towards a girl when I was younger, but nothing like this. That girl was nothing like Mae.

While I lay awake, I watch Mae to make sure she stays asleep. It's a habit I have to ensure she'll be safe and well rested. Her lips pout and I poke her lower lip lightly, her eyebrows furrowing together.

I continue to push my finger between her lips, her hand pushing mine away. She turns her head to face the other way and I smile, kissing the top of her head.

A knock on the door sounds and Mae frowns, curling her body up on mine.

"Yeah?" she asks, my hands moving to her back.

"You want any breakfast? Harry too?" she asks, my lips moving to touch her neck.

"No. We're going out later," Mae replies, my teeth nipping at her exposed skin.

"Okay."

Silence comes and I close my eyes when she moves her body up, setting her forehead on mine.

"Were you trying to wake me up?" she asks, my lips curving.

"No. I let you sleep for a really long time. I just laid here and watched you," I say, opening my eyes and meeting hers. She gives me an amused look and I wrap my arms around her.

"You're creepy," she says.

"Only for you," I come back, kissing her cheek.

"Come on. I'm hungry and I know you are too," she says, climbing off my body. She forces me out of bed and I stumble out, wrapping my arms around her and pulling her up into my body.

"Kiss me baby. I want some kisses," I smile, her lips releasing a laugh.

"No, you have morning breath," she laughs, my arms lifting her into the bathroom.

"I don't give a fuck. Kiss me," I grin, her hands pushing my face away from hers.

I set her on the counter and quickly brush my teeth, her lips curving as she laughs at my 'anger'. As soon as I'm finished, my lips are on hers and she's smiling.

"Now look who has morning breath," I smirk, her eyes rolling.

"You're the one who wanted a kiss so bad," she corrects me, her lips smiling.

"Damn right," I smile, pressing my lips to hers again. My hands grab her cheeks and she grabs my arms, my eyes closing as I feel what has to be the greatest feeling in the world.

Once we finish kissing each other, we both change and walk out of the apartment. She grabs my hand and leads me down the street to a café, her fingers laced tightly through mine.

"What are you in the mood for?" she asks, my shoulders shrugging.

"Let's get pancakes," I say, her head nodding. We order 12 pancakes for the two of us and get coffee, her body sitting across from mine at the table. I give a glare to a kid checking her out, my anger clearly warding him off.

I turn my attention back to Mae and her phone rings, my eyes watching her grab the phone. Her face drops and I grab the phone, her mother's name written across the screen.

"Hello," I answer, rather me to talk to the person instead of her. She knows her mother's gone; I've seen her mother not alive in the most brutal way.

"Bring her to me or we'll find you and take her away," someone says, my eyebrows frowning.

"If you don't follow through with any compromise, she'll suffer while you watch. Don't think we won't fall through with this," they say, my eyebrows pushing together.

"Who is this?" I grit, my eyes looking out the window. I can smell him; Dean is here.

"Someone she knows."

The line goes dead and I get up, grabbing Mae's hand tightly and rushing out of the café. I lead her to the forest and I shift, waiting for her. She shifts and we begin running, knowing they're close behind. We run until we reach the edge, her hands quickly grabbing mine once we shift.

"We need to get as far away from this place as we can," I say, her head nodding.

She kisses me lightly before we continue running, shifting back and traveling as far as we can. Her little form begins to tire and I tell her to shift. She does so and climbs onto my back, my wolf running away with her to safety. I come across a small motel on the side of the road, setting Mae down. I shift and take hold of her hand, leading her into the office.

"Hi, can we get a room for tonight?" I ask the woman at the desk, her head nodding.

"Of course. 4B," she smiles, handing me a key. Mae and I walk out and she curls into my side, her exhaustion clear. I wrap my arm around her and unlock the door, the room perfect for the two of us.

Mae.

We spend days in the small motel room, his concern for me and my well-being very high. He told me the person on the phone knew me, but not Harry. It makes me scared and I can't think properly. I'm skittish and can barely eat because I'm nervous and scared something will hurt us.

"Just try," Harry says, sitting across from me with a cup of yogurt.

I shake my head and he keeps his eyes on me, my chin setting on my knees.

"Mae, please. You have nothing to fear as long as I'm here," he whispers, setting his hand on the small of my back as he looks at me.

His lips press to my forehead and he leans his forehead on mine, looking at me.

"Eat for me, please. I need you healthy," he whispers, moving the spoon and holding the yogurt to my lips. Much to his surprise, the blueberry yogurt is welcomed past my lips and the taste soon enters my body.

"Are you not feeling well?" he inquires after running his hand over my forehead.

"Not really," I mumble, his hand grabbing the spoon again. He finishes feeding me yogurt and lifts me up, holding me to his body.

He starts running a bath and I take my clothes off and sit in the warm water, his body kneeling beside me.

"Don't let this bother you. Please," he whispers, his one reminder one I've heard often in the time we've been here.

My fingers reach up and run through his hair, his eyes looking at me.

"I don't want to hurt us. I'm weighing us down because my father is targeting us," I say, grabbing his cheeks as he looks at me.

"No you're not. I'm willingly staying here because you are everything to me," he says, kissing my forehead. He stands abruptly and begins undressing himself, sitting behind me and wrapping his arms around me.

"Even if you're sick," he smiles, my lips curving. I lean my head on his shoulder and he kisses my cheek, helping me relax.

As I rest, he's lightly running his fingers over my arms and stomach. I love how gentle he is with me and I love being with him.

He lifts me up and wraps a towel around me, the two of us changing. We walk into the bedroom and the door swings open, everything going black in a matter of seconds.
