Chapter 48
Mr. Sallow's Sinful Wife by Maisie Chasey
Chapter 48 You Wonât Be Happy Together Madelline shook her head while biting her lip.
Tears rolled down her cheeks, and she gazed at Nicholas, looking pitiful and helpless.
That expression could make any man feel sympathetic and guilty.
âIâm sorry, Madelline. It is my fault.â
âSince you know itâs your fault, why do you want to break up? I need to know the reason. I wonât accept this without explanation Nicholas looked at her, feeling guilty in his heart.
Madeline wiped away her tears and grabbed Nicholasâ hand. âPlease tell me the reason, okay? I have the right to know. Itâs something I should know.â
âDo you really have to know it?â
âYes, I have to.â
With a sigh, Nicholas reluctantly began, âGrandpa passed away. Though it was due to liver cancer, if it werenât for my insistence on getting a divorce that day, defying him, he wouldnât have left us.â
âMadelline, Iâve already let you and Grandpa down. Now, Nancy is my wife. I canât let her down. either.
âNo.â Madelline shook her head frantically. âNicholas, itâs not like that.â
âGrandpaâs passing wasnât your fault. You shouldnât burden yourself with all the responsibility. It hurts me to see you like this.
Your obligation lies with Nancy, but thereâs no love between you guys. Forcing a marriage like this wonât result in happiness.â
âIâm the one you love and want to spend your life with. Nicholas, Iâm begging you, letâs not part ways.â
Madelline cried even harder.
Her tears fell like broken pearls.
Her eyes were even more red and swollen from crying.
Nicholas couldnât hold back and reached out to completely wipe away the tears on her face. âMadelline, stop it. Iâve made up my mind.â
âYou can leave the country, as before, so you never have to see me again. You can also stay here, 1/5 but I am only Nancyâs husband from now on and have nothing to do with you.â
âDoes it have to be like this?â Madelline desperately said, âNo, I donât want this.â
âI donât want to leave you, and I donât want to be just a stranger to you.â
âIâve finished my words. Nancy is still waiting for me at home, so Iâll go first.
Nicholas got up and left without a second thought.
Suddenly, there was a loud noise from behind.
âOuch... Ah, itâs burning! It hurts so much.â
After that, there came the pitiful voice of Madelline Thatâs right, she had spilt the coffee in front of her.
And she had spilt it by herself.
The purpose was simple. Of course, it was to keep Nicholas by her side.
Suppressing the worry in his heart, Nicholas continued walking forward.
Madelline couldnât believe it. She raised her voice and said, âIt hurts, Nicholas! Iâm in so much pain. Are you going to ignore me?â
âAre you going to leave me here all alone?â
Listening to her distressed cries, Nicholas couldnât bring himself to be heartless after all.
He turned around and walked up to Madelline.
Seeing him approach, Madelline leapt with joy. She seized the opportunity to hug Nicholas tightly.
âNicholas, please donât go.â
âI love you, and I love you so much. After all these years, youâre the only man Iâve ever loved. Are you going to leave me and let me marry another man?â
âI know you feel guilty, and I understand how hard it is for you and your self-blame, but guilt isnât love. Thereâs no love for Nancy in your heart.â
Nicholasâ voice was low and serious as he said, âMadelline, let me go.â
âNo, I wonât let go. Nicholas, I love you and will never let you go for the rest of my life.
2/5 Madelline hugged his waist tightly and cried like a tearful person.
âIâve just made it clear that Nancy is my wife, and I wonât allow you to disparage her in any way.â
His solid, slender fingers carefully separated Madellineâs clenched grip as he spoke, one finger at a time.
Of course, Madelline was unwilling to let go.
But how could her strength compare to Nicholas?
Her hands wholly loosened from Nicholasâ waist in just a few minutes.
This time, Nicholas didnât even glance at her and continued to walk ahead without looking back.
Madelline wheeled herself madly, trying to catch up.
Suddenly, her wheelchair stopped.
She looked up and saw a stunning woman wearing sunglasses and black jeans, with an incredibly, hot figure blocking the wheels of her wheelchair.
âCould you please move?â Madelline demanded with an assertive tone.
âSorry, but I canât.â
âYou must be crazy! Why are you blocking me?â
Linda turned to the side, her gaze directed at Nicholas and Nancy. âDo you see that? They are at real married couple, legally recognized with a marriage certificate. Youâre just a clown!â
âMs. Madelline, itâs better for humans to have self-awareness. Persistent pursuit like this will only make you look valueless.â
Seeing the scene before her, Madelline clenched her fists and bit her lip hard.
Nancy.
It was her.
It was all because of her.
If not for her, she and Nicholas would have lived happily together, perhaps even with many children by now.
Seeing Nancy there, Nicholas was quite surprised.
Linda came back from filming and invited me for coffee here. I didnât expect to run into you.
3/5 guys,â Nancy explained casually.
âDo you like the coffee at this place?â Nicholas asked.
âItâs freshly ground by hand, and it has a great texture with a rich taste,â Nancy replied truthfully.
Nicholas held her hand and walked straight to the counter, then turned to ask her, âWhich flavor do you like?â
âCappuccino!â
It was her and Lindaâs favorite.
Nicholas unlocked his phone, navigated to a screen, and handed it to the cashier. âTake note of this address. Please deliver a freshly ground cappuccino with some desserts here every day.â
Nancy was shocked and quickly grabbed Nicholas. âThey donât offer delivery service.â
âYeah, they donât usually deliver, but Iâm an exception, Nicholas said confidently.
âHuh? Why?â
âI had Lynn find someone to open this coffee shop.â
Nancy froze momentarily, but then it dawned on her. It means that Nicholas was the owner of this coffee shop.
No wonder he was so confident.
After buying the coffee, they walked towards the door.
Nancy noticed that throughout the entire time, Nicholas didnât glance at Madelline again.
Stopping in her tracks, she looked at Nicholas. âEven though you donât say it, I know you canât let her go, Nicholas. You still have a chance to consider. I donât want to force you.â
âYou have five minutes. If you meet me at the door in five minutes, weâll still be husband and wife. If you donât, Iâll take the documents and go to the Civil Affairs Bureau tomorrow for a divorce.â
She left the final choice in his hands.
She hoped he would think carefully and not act on impulse.
After saying this, Nancy walked towards the door on her own.
However, as she took her first step, she felt a warmth in her hand the next moment.
She looked down and saw that Nicholas had already held her hand. His gaze was determined as 4/5 he said, âNo need. Iâve already made up my mind.
