Chatper 4
Mr. Sallow's Sinful Wife by Maisie Chasey
Chapter 4 Divorce is Postponed She awakened Nicholas. He took the phone, lifted the blanket, and walked directly to the window. They chatted briefly, but Nancy couldnât hear what he was saying. She only saw his eyebrows furrowed and then relaxed. After hanging up the phone, Nicholas came to Nancy. Nancy looked at him embarrassedly and said, âI answered the wrong phone. Did Ms. Madelline misunderstand?â
âIâve already explained.â He paused and looked at Nancy, saying, âWe are husband and wife. Sleeping in the same bed and waking up together is perfectly normal.â âYeah.â Nancy nodded. When she wanted to get up, Nicholas suddenly approached her face and asked, âWhatâs wrong with your face?â Nancy hurriedly ran to the mirror to have a look. She had a lot of red pimples on her face, almost all over her legs, arms, and body. She knew it resulted from an allergy to the eggs she ate yesterday. âIâm a little allergic. I have already taken the medicine, which will disappear in a few days,â Nancy answered. âAre you okay?â Nicholas asked again. âDonât worry, I wonât delay seeing Grandpa.â âWait a moment. Iâll put on makeup and change clothes. Then weâll go to meet Grandpa and talk about our divorce.â Nancy knew that Nicholas couldnât wait for her to file for divorce. Since this has happened, she wonât be the poor woman who asks for his pity. She canât do such a thing. Her self-esteem wonât allow it. âNo need to meet Grandpa. Letâs go to the hospital to check your face.â Nicholas said. Nancy was stunned and asked, âGrandpa has agreed?â Nicholas shook his head. Then he looked at her and explained, âI was just about to tell you that Grandpa isnât in good health. He has moved forward his eightieth birthday and will held in a week.â âGrandpa has always loved you. If you talk about divorce now, he will definitely not be able to celebrate this birthday happily. Weâll discuss it after Grandpaâs 80th birthday.â âOkay.â
Nancy nodded. âGrandpa is the person who loves me the most and treats me the best in the Sallows. I also hope that he will celebrate his birthday happily.â âIt sounds like youâre accusing me of mistreating you?â Nicholas teased. Nancy was speechless.
After her mother passed away, Jacob took her back to the Sallows and gave her a warm house. Jacob also took care of her and provided for her to study. Without Jacob, she could not imagine her life these past few years. âDonât worry, Iâll file for divorce after Grandpaâs birthday ends. I wonât delay you.â Nancy is afraid that Nicholas thinks she will take advantage of Jacobâs birthday to delay their divorce, so she quickly promises. âYou seem to be enthusiastic about divorce more than me?â âWhat? Are you so impatient to see your old lover?â Nicholas rubbed his eyebrows deeply, feeling a little upset for some reason. After breakfast, Nancy was unable to debate over Nicholas. He took Nancy to the hospital. Doctorâs office. Nancy was sitting on the chair, and Nicholas was standing next to her. She was a little panicked. She didnât expect that Nicholas would accompany her here. âDo you know what you are allergic to?â âYes.â âYou know, and still ate so much. Your allergy is so serious. Have you taken your medicine?â Nancy shook her head and answered with a little embarrassed, âNo.â âIâll prescribe some medicine. You can take it at home. If your conditionâs not improving, go to the hospital immediately for an injection.â Nancy put her hand on her lower abdomen. She was hesitant, worried that these oral medicines would impact her baby. But Nicholas was standing beside her, so it was difficult for her to ask the doctor. Just when she was extremely anxious, Nicholasâ phone rang. He went out to answer the call. Nancy immediately breathed a sigh of relief and talked to the doctor, âDoctor, Iâm pregnant. Can I take these medicines?â
âWhy didnât you tell me earlier? Iâll change it to topical medicine instead of taking it orally.â âThank you, Doctor. Sorry for bothering you!â After leaving the doctorâs office, Nicholasâ face changed. His face no longer softened as when he first appeared and became extremely cold. After enduring it for a while, when Nicholas went to get medicine, he finally asked Nancy, âYouâve become more capable. Youâve learned how to lie, havenât you?â Nancy knew he was talking about how she had tricked him into taking medicine. Feeling embarrassed, she quickly lowered her head and said, âIâm sorry. I didnât mean it.â âThat was intentional.â
Nancy was speechless. How can he know whatâs in my mind? âI was thinking that we are going to get divorced soon. After that, weâll live our way. There is no need to trouble you anymore. I have troubled you enough in the past two years.â âYou know youâre troublesome?â Nicholas snarled. Nancyâs ears are red, and she is feeling bad. Nicholas really thought that she was a burden. But the next moment, Nicholas spoke. âIâve been in trouble for two years, and I donât care if I have to deal with it just one more time.â
After getting the medicine, when Nicholas was looking at the medicineâs dosage and usage, he suddenly asked, âI remember the doctor said to prescribe oral medicine. Why did it become a topical medicine?â Nancy was speechless. Sometimes, being too careful and too sharp-eyed is not a good thing. âTopical medicine is also good!â Nancy said. âYou have severe allergies. Topical medicine is less effective. Oral medicine is more effective. Besides, it will be Grandpaâs eightieth birthday soon. If the red acne on your body still doesnât disappear by then, he may think I am abusing you.â âIâll explain it to Grandpa. It wonât take a long time to recover.â Nancy promised earnestly. But Nicholas persisted. âNo, Iâll switch to oral medicine in case it doesnât work, and you come to get an injection again.â Then he walked towards the doctorâs office, ready to ask the doctor to prescribe another medicine. Nancy panicked and shouted his name quickly, âNicholas, wait, that ... I asked the Doctor to change it to topical medicine. My gastrointestinal condition has not been good these days, and oral medicine is unsuitable for people with stomach discomfort.â âItâs less effective to apply medicine externally, but itâs also safe, right?â This reason finally convinced Nicholas. He stopped. Nancy first applied medicine to her face, legs, and arms in the car. But she couldnât see the back of her neck. Just when she was confused, Nicholas took the initiative and asked, âAre you sure you donât want my help?â He is always like that, as if he knows everything and has plans for everything. âHere you go!â Nancy put the medicine into his hand. Nicholas suddenly frowned, âWhat is this attitude? You donât want to beg me?â Nancy bit her lip and decided to keep going. She blinked her charming eyes and softly said, âMy dearest husband, I canât apply it. Please help me!â
