Chapter 187
Mr. Sallow's Sinful Wife by Maisie Chasey
Chapter 187 Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder Nicholasâ kiss was scorching.
Nancy felt as if she were being consumed by it.
Under normal circumstances, she would have been embarrassed and pulled away.
But now, she didnât care about anything else.
All she knew was that she couldnât bear to be apart from Nicholas. She didnât want to be separated from the man who held her so tightly.
What should she do? She already missed him, even though he was still here.
No longer holding back, she wrapped her arms around him, desperate to merge their bodies. together.
It was as if that was the only way she could overcome her fear of losing him.
Strangely, Nancy had been feeling more emotional lately.
It felt like he would leave her the moment she let go of him.
As the kiss ended, tears streamed down her cheeks.
Nicholas only realized she was crying when he tasted the saltiness. She was crying so hard that she looked utterly miserable.
âDonât cry,â he gently coaxed, releasing her to tenderly wipe away her tears.
âI wonât be gone for long. I promised Iâll be back as soon as I finish work. It wonât take long. Weâll go for hot pot once Iâm back.â
âAnd my favorite desserts too. Youâll have to go on the merry-go-round and Ferris wheel with me as well.â The more Nancy spoke, the harder she cried.
He lowered his head to lovingly kiss away her tears.
âOkay,â Nicholas nodded affectionately. âWhatever you say, Nancy. Once Iâm back, Iâll be by your side. Weâll do whatever you want.â
âRemember your promise. Donât break it.â
Tears continued to roll down her cheeks as she truly didnât want to see him leave.
Her reluctance burned brighter than the sun.
However, little did they know that some promises would forever remain unfulfilled.
1/4 There would never be a day when that promise would be kept.
If only she had known what was going to happen next, she would have preferred to die rather than let Nicholas leave.
If only he had known the future, he surely would have stayed by her side and never left.
But what-ifs didnât exist in real life.
No one could turn back time.
There were no exceptions.
With a wave, she reluctantly stepped out of the car.
Soon, Nicholas and the car disappeared into the stream of speeding vehicles.
Nicholas waved back at her too.
However, they soon lost sight of each other as the car accelerated.
Nancy stubbornly continued waving in the direction of the car.
Even though she knew he couldnât see her, she still wanted to bid him a proper farewell.
The car drove farther and farther away until she could barely see it. Nevertheless, she stood there and waved until there was nothing left to see. Only then did she enter the restaurant.
Linda was already waiting for her inside.
Linda waved her over immediately. âOver here, Nancy! Iâm here.â
The soup and food had arrived, with some vegetables boiling in the pot. Linda even prepared the sauce Nancy liked.
Nancyâs heart warmed at the sight.
âThank you, Linda.â
âItâs nothing. Come, sit and eat.â
When Linda noticed Nancyâs listlessness and lack of interest in the food, she couldnât help but ask, âIs he gone?â
Nancy snapped her head up and exclaimed, âHow did you know?â
âHe called me a few hours ago. He said he had to go on a business trip soon, so he asked me to have dinner and go shopping with you. He told me to focus on you because heâll be paying for everything. Do I even need to wonder when you look so down and distracted? He must have already left.â
2/4 Nancy nodded glumly. âHe left right after dropping me off.â
âSilly girl, if you didnât want him to go, why didnât you ask him to stay? You could have used this as an opportunity to test his love for you. Maybe he would have stayed if you spoke up.â
Nancy rested her chin on her hand as she continued to brood.
After a few long minutes, she replied, âI donât want to hold him back. Heâs like an eagle. If I truly love him, I canât bear to see him trapped in a cage. I donât want him to think Iâm someone who throws tantrums either.â
âYouâre too considerate, Nancy. Sometimes, you have to be a little selfish. A few arguments are fine. Just be cute and see how he reacts.â
Lindaâs words made sense to Nancy.
But she was afraid.
âIâm a coward, Linda. Iâm afraid that if I ask him to stay, he wonât stay. Wouldnât that mean I donât mean much to him? Iâd rather he go on a business trip. It would feel better. Iâm such a failure.â
Linda didnât know what to say to comfort her.
That was because Nancy didnât know how much Nicholas loved her. She was afraid because she didnât know how important she was to him.
In that case, Linda was even more, clueless.
âLetâs forget about this and focus on our food. The trip might not be so bad, after all,â Linda said.
âHow so?â
âWhile you two have been married for years, things are different now. This time, youâve just gotten together and are in your honeymoon phase. Youâre more prone to impulsive moments of passion. This trip will test your love for each other. Plus, they say absence makes the heart grow fonder. When he returns, heâll be filled with even more pent-up passion. You might not be able to handle it.â
As Linda spoke, her face turned red too.
Maybe it was out of embarrassment, or maybe it was just from the heat of the pot.
Either way, her cheeks were adorned with a beautiful pink flush.
âLinda, weâre not... doing... that yet,â Nancy stammered.
Linda was surprised. âBut youâre married, right? I thought...â
Nancy shook her head. âWe were married before. This time, I want it to be different. I want to take it slow,â
|||
3/4 âOkay. Either way, after this period of separation, heâll definitely be burning with passion for you. So donât be sad, Nancy.
Besides, itâs not like heâs never coming back. Look on the bright side. You have a feast of your favorite food in front of you that we have to eat soon.â
âOkay.â
Nancy nodded and joined Linda in savoring the feast before them.
å¼ The spices were strong and flavorful, but Nancy couldnât shake the bad feeling she had about the whole situation. It felt like something significant and unacceptable would happen to Nicholas during his trip.
She shook her head and forced herself to ignore it.
After all, all she could do was hope for the best.
All she could do was pray that he would return to her side soon.
