45. Happy Moment

Mahi's POV:

"Don't you like it?" Mom asked with a hint of nervousness in her voice. I looked up from the masala dosa she made specially for me.

"It's.... It's good" I replied, looking back at the food on my plate.

"Then you should eat one more." Dad smiled and mom served me one more dosa.

"Of course the hungry bird loves Masala dosa. Di why not get 3?" I glared at Rohan and he showed his hand, zipping his lips.

"Don't tease your sister Rohan. We won't be able to save you if she runs after you." Grandpa said as he took a sip of his sugar free tea. Everyone started laughing and I just kept looking at them.

It's been years I dreamt of this kind of morning. Everyone together and most importantly happy. It's been 2 months since they moved back to Mumbai.

Dad is operating his business from Mumbai now and mom opened a new branch of her restaurant here. Grandpa gave all the responsibility of handling the orphanage to his close friend.

Initially mom was going to handle that but she decided she wants to live here with all of us together, with me. Rohan shifted to our university in Mumbai and he seems to be enjoying it here.

The house is mostly filled with laughter these days. Dad avoids going to the office on weekends and we have been spending a lot of time together, he even plays video games with me and Rohan.

Mom even took me shopping with Aparna aunty. Both the ladies went crazy looking at the dresses in the showroom and they ended up buying 12 pieces for me.

They really want to transform my whole closet from black, white and blues to a whole freaking unicorn world.

Honestly all this feels nostalgic to me. All this used to happen when I was a kid but it still feels new and may be good.

I am still not completely used to all the care and love they are showering but they are trying and I think I should also try moving a step toward them.

My mind still sometimes mocks me for believing this. What if their love is just a drama and nothing is real? What if all this is a dream and when I will wake up everything will vanish? What if they leave again?

But my heart says otherwise. It pushes me toward them. It convinces me to trust them. They are going to stay beside me and all this is real. They did wrong, but now if they are trying I will not push them away.

I decided to give them a chance because what I felt in the past two months with them is beautiful and now everything feels complete. I feel happy and I think that's enough for now.

Last week we went to Goa for our family weekend. Dad invited Aparna aunty and Kabir as well but he had an important event in Udaipur to attend so he left but he is coming back today.

Thinking of that, it's also been 2 months since Shreya's incident happened. She hired a lawyer for her after she was arrested. The case was filed and she was declared guilty by the court. She was released after she paid the fine for defamation.

But things were not that easy for her. The producers of the movie removed her from the project. She lost all the contracts she had. The media didn't let her live peacefully even for a day and the public response was even worse.

Within a month her acting career was destroyed. I don't feel very good about what happened with her but she called it upon herself. There was news that she left India a few days ago. I haven't seen her since the last trial of the court.

"Mahi your phone is ringing" I heard mom saying and looked at my phone's screen. I picked up looking at pink flower emoji showing up.

"Meetusatnityashouseinhalfanhour" Sameer's voice came from the other hand.

"What?" He said all in one breath how am I supposed to understand that?!

"Sameer, give my phone back!" I heard Nitya's voice mixed with some other faint noise.

"Sameer, stop messing around! Let me talk to Nitya." I let out a frustrated sigh. He really is best at annoying people.

"You are so boring. Here." I heard the sound of something falling down.

"What happened?" I asked.

"Nothing, he broke a mug." She replied with a chuckle.

"Really Nitya how your mom is so okay with him breaking mugs every now and then!" I rolled my eyes at the memory of the last time we all went to her house and he broke a coffee mug then.

"She likes him more than her mugs I guess." She laughed and I heard Sameer's voice from a distance. "Leave him. We are going to Nandini di's place. She invited all of us for lunch so get here by 9:30!" Before I could say anything she hung up.

I looked at the time and it's 9:10. Just great! I stood up hurriedly. My second dosa is still unfinished but I need to go. "I am leaving and will get back late I think, Bye."

"But where are you going this early in the morning?" Grandpa asked, keeping his cup aside.

"We are spending the day at Nandini di's place, it looks like I will be occupied the whole day by these nutcrackers." Grandpa laughed at my remark.

"Of course you're the biggest nutcracker among them." Rohan said, taking his last bite of dosa.

"Not funny at all. You wanna come or not?" He immediately stood up, wiping his hands with the tissues. "Look at you so desperate to come." I mocked.

"They all are fun, of course I want to come. Let's not waste time, we are getting late right, let's gooooo!" I smacked the back of his head as he almost shouted near my ear.

"Bye, take care and have fun!" Dad said. We waved at him and left for Nitya's house. They all were ready with cars when we reached there.

"Stop cracking those lame jokes if you don't want a good punch." Karan glared at Rishi but he kept laughing.

"You both just shut your mouth please!" Priya's loud voice made everyone turn to her.

"Goodness this drama never ends." Sameer murmured and Nitya glared at him.

"You started this Sameer." He just shrugged his shoulders.

"Hey Mahi Hey Rohan!" Priya waved as she noticed us. "Let's go if everyone is here."

"Where is your girlfriend Karan?" Rishi asked in a dramatic tone. He has been teasing him since he got to know about them dating.

"She said she will directly meet us there there." Nitya replied.

"Poor Karan." Rishi started again.

"Priya, look after your boyfriend, it looks like he has a death wish." Karan shot a death glare at him and Rishi went away to his car. These two will never change.

"When is Kabir getting back Mumbai?" Priya asked after we all sat in the car.

"He will probably get back by the evening." I replied and looked at my phone for his message. Nothing except the last message he sent which said 'I will be back by evening'

We reached Nandini di's place and Samarth bhai was also there. "Hey everyone! So good to see you all here." Samarth bhai greeted us and we all entered.

"Hi Nandini Di, the pre wedding glow suits you." Priya teased and she blushed looking at us. Nandini di and Samarth bhai are getting married next month. She really wanted all of us to help with preparations.

Today is going to be the wedding discussion I guess. We sat in the living room while the boys went to the other side to play carrom. I wanted to join them but the girls stopped me.

"Mahi you have to be here with us, help us with all the other discussions regarding my wedding okay!" Nandini di commanded and I have to agree.

The discussions went from the decorations to the menu to cloths to themes to dance and to games. They already decided for a destination wedding in Goa because she always wanted a beach wedding for herself.

"Ladies, we are dying of hunger. Let's have lunch already." Samarth bhai came to the living room.

"Yea let's have lunch, I am hungry. You all settle down. We will call the helpers to serve." Nandini di stood up but was stopped by Samarth bhai.

"Don't bother, today we men are going to serve our ladies." The remaining boys came with platers in their hands. The girls chirped looking at their partners, only if Kabir was here.

"Come on, let's go!" Priya clapped her hands in excitement and we all moved to the dining area. The boys started serving their girls and I kept looking at them.

I grabbed the dish to serve myself. "Let me do this dolphin." I heard a hushed voice near my temple and looked up to find my man.

"Kabir?" His name came out with a hint of disbelief.

"Are you disappointed?" He whispered, staring back in my eyes. I stood up and grabbed him in a tight hug. His hands went to my back pulling me closer to his chest.

"I missed you" I hid my face in his chest and he placed a gentle kiss on top of my head. Loud cheering voices were heard and I opened my eyes. Everyone looked at us with teasing expressions and I immediately pulled back.

My cheeks started feeling hot and embarrassment took over my body. "Mahi Deshmukh is blushing? Is this a dream?" Sameer yelled in a dramatic tone and my ears turned red thinking how everyone reacted.

"Don't tease her Sameer. Don't you remember your blushing when that aunty in that cafe said you and Nitya look like a married couple and you both should have kids soon." Priya reminded him of the last time we all went out together.

He immediately shut his mouth up and everyone started laughing. "Of course they are a couple they can hug in front of us. After all, they have been India's trending couple for the past two months." Kirti referred to the top results showing in twitter's trending topics.

After that press conference the public reaction to our relationship was positive. Even though I didn't expect much, but after the photos from one of our street ice cream date went viral, people on social media declared us as a couple goals.

Honestly I want to keep all this private but his fans were supportive toward our relationship so it was not that hard.

"Have a seat, let me serve you." He said ignoring everyone else and I took my seat back. He served me according to my preferences but he didn't stop there.

He started feeding me, everyone was looking at us but I decided to focus on him. He was away for almost a week. I have to take a good look at his precious face. Everyone else indulged themselves with their partners and chatted about many random topics.

"Why did you lie that you were coming back in the evening?" I asked as he fed me one more bite.

"Thought of giving you a small surprise." He smiled. God I missed his smile, his face, his smell so much!

"Not fair you all started without us!" Ahan came with Tanya following him.

"Who told you to be slow?" Kabir said without looking at him.

"Bro you ran away in your car as soon as we landed. How am I slow in this huh?" He spoke as if he was betrayed.

"Ignore him. Have a seat Tanya." Nandini di passed her a plate. The table was filled with chatter, banter and lots of food. Everyone looked happy.

I am so glad that I met these people in my life. They all are special and we are creating these memories to cherish them for years and years to come.

I hope we all stay happy and together like this forever. They make my life easy just by existing in it. The lunch ended with a not so new banter of Karan and Rishi and as always Priya settled it down.

Rishi taught Kirti how to make Karan lose his temper but Priya told her to ignore him. Ahan and Rohan played video games ignoring all the other people present in the house. Samarth bhai helped Nandini di with the dishes.

Tanya said she decided to shift back to India with her mom. Sameer and Nitya were busy in their own little world. Kabir looked pissed with constant loud noises made by Ahan every now and then.

The evening passed with fun and lots of loud noises, it looked like the house was filled with teenagers who went out of control. I am sure the neighbors might have called the cops by now.

"Let's get out of here." Kabir whispered looking at Sameer and Ahan having an argument on the rules of playing carrom. It was almost 7pm.

"We can't, everyone is still here Kabir." I looked back at the tiring face of Nitya and Priya. Suddenly Kabir stood up and everyone stopped doing what they were busy with.

"We are leaving." He grabbed my hand, making me stand up.

"Where?" Nandini di asked.

"We can't waste this beautiful evening with these clowns." He didn't even hesitate to point at Ahan and Sameer. Before they could say anything he started walking away with my hands in his.

"Where are we going?" I took the passenger seat in his car and he sat in the driver's seat.

"A surprise date night." I smiled looking at his side profile. He pulled a black cloth from his pocket and covered my eyes from it.

"What-" He cut me "Hush.... Have patience." I felt the car moving. I tried asking him many times but he would not say anything.

The car stopped and I heard him opening his side of the door. My side of the door opened shortly after that and he took my hand to help me get down. "Kabir tell me what it is?"

"Just keep walking" He made me walk carefully while instructing when to lift my feet and when to stop.

We stopped and he said he is going to unfold the blinds. A smile formed on my lips with excitement of what was going on. He removed the cloth and I slowly opened my eyes.

We were at his house, in his backyard and the view was... stunning! Those lights look like small fireflies shining in the dark. He turned the whole backyard into something different, something utterly beautiful.

There was this small table for two at the corner which was lit with candles on top of it. The projector was placed in the middle with comfy cushions and mats.

"This is...." I struggled to find the words to describe how it looked. "It's magical." I turned to look at him. The happiness was overwhelming and a tear escaped my left eye.

"Hey" he angled my face and kissed where the tear fell. "It was to make you smile not to make you cry." He pulled me closer and I rested my head on his chest.

"These tears say that I am beyond happy." My hands went to the back of his shoulder. I let myself melt in his warmth. We stayed like that for a moment before he took me to the dinner table.

Like a gentleman he is, he pulled the chair for me. "Thank you Mr. Mehra." He smiled at my words and went to take his seat opposite to me.

He opened the bottle of red wine and served me first. "Just for today." I laughed at his warning.

"Yes sir." We started with our Italian spaghetti with wine. The whole dinner was just about both of us looking at each other.

"Which movie?" he asked as we both settled down on the mats on the grass.

"The Notebook." I instantly replied. He looked at me for a second and agreed. The movie started. I rested my head on his shoulder while he carelessly roamed his hand on my arm.

We enjoyed the movie with the sensual touches every now and then.

The scene played on the screen where Noah said "I wrote you 365 letters, I wrote you everyday for a year. It wasn't over, it still isn't over." that just hit me every time differently.

I looked at Kabir who was looking at the screen. "Kabir?" I called out and he turned his face with a low hmm.

"Would you write letters for me if we ever get apart from each other?" I don't know why but that question popped up in my mind and I couldn't stop myself from asking it.

He paused and looked at me before saying "No I will not"

"Why?" My fingers curled around his.

"I can write to you even when you are close to me because there is no reason for us to be apart from each other but I can give you thousands of reasons to stay together. We are going to be together for a long time, dolphin because we were meant to be from the very beginning." A comfortable silence fell over us.

"Do you know what that look on your face can do?" He asked, breaking the silence but my words were stuck in my throat.

He grabbed my hand and moved it closer to his chest. "Do you feel it?" His heart thumped against his chest which my hand could feel.

I lifted my lashes to look in his eyes. His eyes scanned my face for a second before he crashed his lips against mine without any warning. His moves were fast but never rough. Our breath mingled as he invaded his tongue in my mouth.

Realization hit me and I kept both my palms on his chest to stop him. He understood and pulled back to look at my face. "Aunty might walk in" I was hesitant. It would be so awkward if that happens.

"She is not home. She went to Delhi to attend some event in the afternoon." He answered with a smile and came a little closer. My hands were still on his chest to stop him.

"What about Mohan kaka?"

"No one is home beside us dolphin and no one is coming here." He whispered the last part near my ear which ran a shiver down my spine.

This time he removed my hands from his chest and moved over me. His tall figure hovered over me, increasing my heart rate to inhuman speed. He balanced himself on his hands and knees, making sure he doesn't put his weight on me.

"Do you want this, Mahi?" He asked in his slow and sensual voice. Even though I want to give my whole self to him, I am scared not because I don't trust him but because this is very new to me.

"It's okay if you don't want to, there is no rush, we can wait as long as you want. I would die before I ever hurt you Mahi. There is nothing more important than you." I smiled at his words and he caressed my face before moving away from me.

"I am sorry it's not like I don't trust you but I just want to have some more time for us before we do it. I just want our first time to be beautiful." I rested my head on his chest. The movie was almost over.

"It would be the most amazing moment when we will make love because I could not imagine anything more beautiful than you giving yourself to me with all the love and trust we have." His words filled my heart with warmth.

"I love you Kabir." I looked up and he was already looking at me. I know I will eventually give him everything I have, because I am his, his to love and his to adore and he deserves it.

"I love you Mahi. I will always be grateful for having you in my life because you are the only one who can complete me. You are my happy moment" He kissed my forehead and I snuggled in his chest.

I am grateful that we met that day. That encounter changed everything. It brought you to me and I am keeping you for forever now.
